@Wigs2 As I recall, Mick, Svi and Greene aren't freshmen any longer....
@Crimsonorblue22 My point is that he hasn't put anyone in in 2nd half and 2 OTs - our big advantage is depth and we haven't done anything to parlay it...
@Bwag Seems to be the latter. Double OT and we haven't taken any advantage of depth to wear them down in the last 30 minutes.
@Bwag LL has to be the worst 6-10 finisher in the history of college ball
That was terrible - way too early to shoot!!!!
@Bwag Not sure I want to leave enough time for a put back - might get over the back call....
@jaybate-1.0 Agreed - but may have to switch off him in OT - has 4 fouls now.
Refs have dictated this game.
Fascinating ball game - why I love college ball!
@Bwag 14 trey attempts in the 1st half - 4 this half.
Perry needed to take that open 14 footer.
@wissoxfan83 This is classic Self. Played depth in 1st half and offense was clicking - yes, complete defensive breakdown in the last minute - and now going with the guys I guess he trusts more in the 2nd half. No Mick, Diallo, Bragg or Svi - notwithstanding that they contributed to 50% FG and 3P shooting in the 1st half.
@globaljaybird And, no Bragg or Diallo? Just went away from what was working the first 19 minutes???
Has Mick played at all this half???
@Bwag And then get beat badly down the court....
Our halftime rebounding edge is gone - 8 to 2 for OU so far this half. We're getting out-worked and beat to spots right now.
Shooting %s almost dead even. We have more boards, but many more TOs and fouls. Plus, they have 6 blocks to our 1. Our guards got "sped up" as HCBS often complains of - really first time this year they haven't played well. Expect that will be softly talked about at in the locker room....
TOs and FTs the difference in this game right now.
@Bwag Same issue with Baylor - they shot 7 more FTs at AFH. We really don't stay in front of guys that well and reach too much.
@Mikey-P He is an excitable young man...
There is no reason for Lucas to be in this game - he doesn't match up with anyone on OU.
I want a 100 spot
@JRyman Not complaining in this case, just observing. Like to see that we were able to finish strong after they made a little run. Mick was in almost the entire half - very unusual - but he earned it. Points, rebounds, blocked and altered shots.
No Svi, Bragg or Diallo this half....
@wissoxfan83 Make that 2
@DinarHawk Agree 1000%
Weak effort by Perry there - didn't really contest the drive and got cheap little push foul.
@DinarHawk JT - zero points, no rebounds and 3 fouls...
@brooksmd Timing...
Solid game from BG. Actually has shown some decent effort on D.
@Texas-Hawk-10 He is out best rebounder - although I'm not sure I would agree with "far and away" - the problem is that is all he does well. The offense really slows down when he is in the game.
Third on Mason - out for a while now...
@wissoxfan83 They shot 10 more FTs than we did - no way that should happen, especially at AFH.
@Bwag He had 2 fouls - came out after the second one.
Ellis doesn't seem to have his head in the game on the defensive end. They've gotten to the rim easily in 5 of the last six possessions.
@RockChalkinTexas Just great ball movement. Best passing team we've had in years...
@brooksmd Self is definitely a D first coach - largely because defense travels and you can usually count on it. But he hasn't exactly been consistent about who actually plays solid D and who gets playing time. The past two years, Perry has been a poor defender, Jamari, as well. Selden actually gets beat too frequently by faster wings. Each of them has improved on the defensive end, but Self was all too willing to overlook their shortcomings on the defensive end, apparently because he believed they compensated in other areas.
@BeddieKU23 Actually, Stone was getting less than 20 minutes a game through the first half of the season (although double digit minutes in every game) and, having watched a few of the games, he clearly looked a bit lost - just like a freshman. Only scored in double figures a couple of those games and was often out of position for rebounds (low totals). But, this is the key and I think make yours and @HighEliteMajor points - he was getting real minutes, Turgeon let him play through his mistakes, and he now looks a lot more comfortable - even dominant. Double figures in each of his last 6 games, capped by the 39pt, 12rb performance yesterday. Guys aren't going to learn and gain experience riding the bench.
@drgnslayr I also like the idea of our veteran players "possessing" the team, but I would simply observe that freshmen "possessed" last year's national championship team. On the other hand, Wisconsin was clearly a veteran led team and made it to the NC game. And, the recent UConn championship teams were driven by veterans. There isn't just one path - superior talent typically prevails, but not always. It is one persons view that we give ourselves the best chance to take it all if we can effectively meld strong veteran capabiility (Selden and Mason) with superior athletic talent (Bragg and Diallo) - and Devonte and Svi providing a bit of both.
@BeddieKU23 I assumed that was your assumption. :) I just still somewhat skeptical that Wayne will go pro - or at least that he will be drafted. And, if he is, it's likely to be later second round and a non-guaranteed contract. For his sake, I hope he ends up being viewed more favorably by the league. But, if I had to bet now, it would be that he returns for his senior season (if we end up with the NC, then maybe it's a different story!). What Wayne ends up doing may well impact Svi's decision-making. At least at this point, the league seems to perceive a lot more upside in Svi - and he could always get always go the Euro route. Would love to see them both back, but not sure that would be the best for Svi's development?
@BeddieKU23 Oubre has had a couple of decent games, but to be clear, the only reason he started or is getting minutes is because the Wizards have been beset by injuries - both Bradley Beal and Otto Porter are out. Had already lost Martell Webster earlier. Basically Oubre is one of the few healthy wing players. But, he has a chance to take advantage of the opportunity.
Not sure about Svi getting Selden minutes simply because it's not clear that Selden will be drafted - even if he is, it probably won't be until the second round. He simply hasn't demonstrated that he has a game that translates to the NBA. He's too slow and doesn't have the handle to play the 2. While he has been shooting well from college 3 point distance, not sure he really has consistent NBA range. May be why he doesn't show up near the first round on any NBA draft boards, not withstanding solid beginning to the year. He and Perry may fall into the category of really good college players that just aren't NBA caliber talents. We may get the benefit of having really solid players for the duration of their college careers.
@jaybate-1.0 Except, that really isn't the composite 5 line - 2 of the 5 were in at the same time. Bragg was in for Ellis for a while.
Well, we do lose the scrub game pretty badly....We didn't score in the last 4 minutes. Oh well...
This is really a complete performance - while the Griz aren't a great team, or even good, they're not that bad. Lost by just 3 at Gonzaga.
@Crimsonorblue22 Didn't see all the first half - not sure how many minutes, but they weren't quiet minutes - definitely had an impact.
Weird line-up for a minute there - Svi and BG as guards.
@Crimsonorblue22 Saw some of both games - overlapped. Utah tried hard to give it away at the end with a couple of bone-head plays, but held on. Basically a road game for WSU and SH is pretty good - wouldn't have been a bad loss except they had too many already with FVV out. Frankamp looked okay.
BTW, Creighton has just closed to within 1 of OU in Norman.
@Crimsonorblue22 Agree, but he may still be more capable of scoring against L&A guys even now.
Bragg has looked good all game long - really developing strongly. He will soon be our best low post scoring option, Ellis included. And, when you see them standing side by side, he has at least 2-3 inches on Ellis, plus more hop and longer arms.
