Pound for pound, Lightfoot is a tough dude.

@approxinfinity How'd AW3 do?

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 06:59 PM

@Ralph Check at Best Buy. I went phone shopping for my mother and picked up a (new) iPhone 6 last week they described as "universal" that works with any of the major carriers if you swap sim cards. I don't know if they had other unlocked phones, but that was interesting to me, and they said it would definitely work with AT&T or Sprint (so it should work with any GSM/CDMA carrier with the appropriate sim).

I saw that schedule a while back and honestly thought Gardner-Webb was a high school.

Ya could definetly do with out Fred. Thank goodness, haven’t seen or heard to much about him in the News lately.

Fred last made the news in 2014 when his hate-filled soul was sucked into the bowels of hell. (although supposedly he'd had a change of heart in his final months and his own church excommunicated him.)

@Crimsonorblue22 Doesn't sound like Sexton is KU bound. Wants to play through mistakes (that ain't going to happen with Bill Self) and stay close to home (Georgia).

Just showed a kstate clip and they have the exact same jerseys

Game blog • Oct 22, 2016 06:27 PM

After further review, the jerseys are indeed purple. Helmet color is acceptably navy.

Oh well. Offense is rolling!

Game blog • Oct 22, 2016 06:13 PM

Purple jerseys?

@approxinfinity No backups for nine months? Wow. Well, how would you know, right?

Hmm. I'm off to check the integrity of my own back-up systems.

Funniest student jeer ever was Colorado students doing 'it's peanut butter and jelly time. Peanut butter and jelly time' and making (I think) Mario little crack up at the free throw line.

At this point, is rankings worth anything? • Jan 15, 2016 03:19 AM

Being nu 1 is important all the time, anytime. I've been wearing my big blue nu 1 finger to work all week. It's been hard to type and get anything done, but all the Kstate, MU, ISU and WSU fanboys know what I'm getting at. We're numero uno. nu 1. They can talk smack about Northern Iowa, Stanford, UTEP and whatever, but they're just jealous because they are not, and never will be, nu 1. When you're nu 1, you can laugh and be aggorant and poke them in the face with the big foam finger.

Wisconsin High School Fan Behavior Guide • Jan 15, 2016 02:43 AM

Interestingly, only about 3 of the 29 examples of bad sportsmanship occur at AFH on a regular basis:

Air ball chant... check (dumb, IMO. Usually backfires)

Newspapers during opponents intro... check

Distracting opponents... check (I personally love the free-throw background creativity at every school)

Booing... the refs occasionally (when they really deserve it). Booing Players? VERY rarely, if ever.

The crappier the program, the more examples you see of bad sportsmanship from fans. Exhibit A: Mizzou. I'm sure the antlers would have loved using the U-S-A chant on Svi and Diallo this year. Demeaning? Nah, just reveals Mizzou fans as small minded bigots.

But yeah, otherwise, I agree. It's stupid to try to enforce civility on the stupid.

Free Diallo? • Jan 14, 2016 05:42 PM

Tuesday’s debacle with our post players.

LOL. How bad do the perimeter players have to play to be responsible for a debacle?

Free Diallo? • Jan 14, 2016 05:23 PM

It took Oubre about 9 games last year to figure it out. He did some major pine time early on. It took Cliff a while too, and he did eventually seem like he was going to blossom until the sh*t hit the fan.

Diallo is only at game 11, so he's not that far behind Oubre or Cliff on the timeline.

Free Diallo? • Jan 14, 2016 05:18 PM

Cliff had plenty of chances last year. He was playing 15-20 minutes per game by the time conference play started. He peaked in the two early home games against OU (13/13 in 23 minutes) and Texas (15/9 in 27 minutes).

Steady decline to worthlessness after that.

No excuses! Mason • Jan 14, 2016 02:58 PM

By gawd, every time I turn the TV on in the comfort of my home, I expect to see the team ready to play at 100%. I don't care if they just traveled to the farthest west and farthest east big 12 locations in two days, or if their mommy and daddy are stuck in a blizzard. If coach can't have them ready to play, then he's probably too PC and coddling the younger generation. Plus he should be playing Diallo and Bragg so our guards don't turn it over so much. This is undeniable proof of why we lost to Wichita State and Stanford. Clearly it all goes back to Brady Morningstar.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:29 AM

gotta hit that, svi

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 12:28 AM

One thing we're failing to do is wait for all five of our guys to get down on offense. Too many 4 on 5 shots.

The great C-5 debate • Jan 12, 2016 03:06 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Funny you should mention music, JB. Every time someone says Diallo and Bragg need game experience to learn how to play better, I think of musicians and how much behind the scenes effort and practice takes place before they get on stage. If you know what you're doing before you get up there, there's no stage fright.

C5=first, second, third chair in an orchestra. You might have a brilliant young violinist, who everyone agrees is the most naturally gifted, but the player hasn't learned her part of the symphony piece. Do you let her try to nail it during a live performance or wait until she proves it in rehearsal?

LOL. I don't know what kind of band Bill Self's team would equate to, but I don't think he'd be comfortable directing a Jazz Quintet doing a bunch of improvising.

Time For Self To Kill C5 • Jan 12, 2016 01:15 AM

Did anyone actually watch the last ten-ish minutes of the Tech game?

Definitely slower pace with Lucas in, but I'd say we played more under control with Lucas in the game than with either Bragg or Diallo (and definitely without Greene flying around).

The quarter of the game where you WIN, net production doesn't matter.

Tied 44-44. What did Lucas do?

10:03 Lucas post layup

8:52 Lucas screen for Mason made 3

8:31 Lucas boxout, fouled on defensive rebound

8:10 Lucas screen on Svi missed 3

6:02 Lucas assist on Selden jam

5:04 Lucas screen for Mason made 3

3:20 Lucas bounce pass to SVI who missed the dunk, made 1 FT

2:25 Lucas screen for Selden’s made 3

1:42 Lucas ssist/lob for Ellis jam

On Devonte’s layup at 1:08 Lucas screened Selden’s guy and Selden would have had an easy dunk if Devonte needed to dish of the ball. By that point the game was won.

Lucas got scored on a couple times in the 2-4 minute range, but other than that, I understand why Self is comfortable with Lucas out there. He knows exactly where he’s supposed to be.

Until Diallo figures that out, it's going to be Lucas.

Evaluating C5 - Stats • Jan 11, 2016 03:52 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I know at KU they definitely are taxable income. I'm just curious if UT/ SEC used some loophole to get around it which wouldn't surprise me one iota.

Evaluating C5 - Stats • Jan 11, 2016 03:17 PM

Interesting about the tickets as taxable income. My wife (a professor) was on the Athletics board for three years at the University of Tennessee, and she received two sets of season tickets to football, mens BB and womens BB. 2007-2009-ish years.

I know for a fact she didn't get a 1099 MISC, but -- just our of curiosity -- sometime I'll have to go back and check her W2s to see if there was a withholding for the ticket value.

Not THAT big a deal anyway. The fed tax paid would be less than buying tickets on the street from a scalper to a few games a year (which we had done in previous years).
