@HighEliteMajor @Texas-Hawk-10

Besides redshirting Mitch guarantees nothing. Coach is always over recruiting current players. I say use him. What he lacks in overall talent he makes up for in leadership and heart. With a young team coming in next year replacing 4 starters from last year. Mitch might be the magic potion that this teams need.

Last year everybody was clamoring for Mitch to ride the pine and red shirt. How did that turn out? Not so sure KU makes a final run with out the old Mitch Thunder.

@DoubleDD There's nothing wrong with the idea of Mitch redshirting. This year's front court is going to be stacked, especially if Silvio plays. That would give KU 5 legitimate bigs and that means someone is not playing many minutes.

If that person ended up being Mitch, why wouldn't you redshirt him. When would he have more value, 2018-19 as the 5th big playing primarily garbage time next season or as a 5th year senior in 2020-2021 when he could be a legitimate starter for KU playing 25-30 minutes per game.

You're focusing on the small picture of the 2018-19 season impact of a potential Mitch redshirt, take a couple of steps back and look at how a move like that impacts KU long term.

KU is likely going to be an incredibly young team in 2020-2021 and having a 5th year senior like Mitch on that team would be a huge boost for a group of very young players because he is a great leader and could be a coach on the court type player.

I'm not against redshirting. Yet I don't see how you sit Mitch? A proven commodity versus raw talent that may or may not pan out.

@DoubleDD The posts by @Texas-Hawk-10 and @dylans hit it on the head, and square with your view. We get Mitch for 5 years and he has a much, much better chance of significant playing time when this team will likely need it more. That all said, we know how this works .. DeSousa gets stuck in the NCAA abyss, and Doke twist a knee, Mitch may be starting.

And to quote Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven, "Deserves got nothin' to do with it."

Fair enough. Let me rephrase? Mitch has EARNED the right to play. We have all seen the stacks at Duke and UK? It doesn't always work out. Mitch could be the key piece that makes this next KU team flow.

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Jun 05, 2018 12:29 PM

I don't know why? Yet I've made a point to watch this NBA Championship series.

A few musings?

The King is playing the best he's ever played. Yet Dude does whine a lot.

Warriors are just loaded. They can just take over a game in a blink of an eye. That 3 point shooting is deadly.

Refs getting to much blame and the spot light.

Warriors are going to win another championship.

The King should move on from Cleveland. He paid his dues. I would say Philadelphia would be a great place for him. If the Lion Killer can stay healthy? They would become the best team in the history of the game.

Anyways take my comment with a grain of salt. As I don't watch much NBA, yet I would like to hear some feedback from those that do.

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 05, 2018 12:21 PM

Oh for the love of God can we stop with the Mitch redshirting? Please? The kid has some talent but he has a huge heart. He's the kind of kid that makes those around him better. He may not be the most talented, but he makes up for it by laying it all out on the court. If any KU player deserves to play this next season. It's Mitch. I would also add Doka to that fold. No, no, no, no, redshirt for Mitch. He's needs to play.

Lagerald Vick: The Pool Is Closed • Jun 05, 2018 12:17 PM

I'm thinking Coach has tired of Vick? In fact I think Coach was reminding Vick it's time to move on. I personally like Vick but lets be real the kid is showing he'll never take that next step, at least not at KU under Coach. Vick is very talented kid, but he just isn't leaving up to what he can really do. I'm thinking it's time for Vick to move on.

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 29, 2018 03:01 AM

@HighEliteMajor

I know it appears I'm reaching a bit. Yet it is just in my experience when dealing with the Government and it's agencies. It's always about money. I mean they call it something else of course. They even paint a perception that their being heroes by righting the wrongs. Yet at the end of the day it's always about the money.

Fraud is a Ying and Yang kind of issue when comes to the government. Is not the purpose of the FBI Involvement, is these kids are defrauding the Universities?

I'm sorry I just can't buy that the FBI got all bent out of shape because these kids were defrauding Universities. No the real defrauding is a lot of money is getting tossed around and the Government isn't getting their cut.

At the end of the day it's just my opinion. However when this is all done. I'm willing to bet some persons/companies get charged with tax evasion. Yet I'll remember as you said that this FBI investigation wasn't about taxes/money.

Another big legal battle for the NCAA • May 27, 2018 11:43 AM

I just don't see football going anywhere. If you consider all the money the game of football makes and produces? You're pushing a trillion dollars a year if not more. Now keep in mind I'm not just talking about what he NFL makes. I'm talking about the whole goose clear down to the employees that work at, and build the stadiums. That cash cow isn't going to go away.

Now we could see some more rule changes. Yet my bet is on the engineers and scientists. I have no doubt that in the coming years there will be advancements in the equipment and even the fields they play on. In fact I'd bet money on it.

Zenger Fired • May 27, 2018 11:29 AM

@HighEliteMajor

I do agree that it is odd timing. Yet I'm kind of old fashion even when I'm trying to concoct some conspiracy theory. Want to find the truth? Always follow the money. The Big money KU alumni's held a meeting to pull funding on the football program, as they weren't happy with the direction. Can't say I blame them. Why invest millions in a football program that really isn't showing any improvement?

Look I'm here to debate and discuss the current events of our beloved Jayhawks. I understand that I'm not always going to be right or that the majority of the board rats may not agree with me. Yet I don't think I deserve sniper shots, no matter how eloquently they are put.

Have a great day.

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 27, 2018 11:18 AM

@HighEliteMajor

My point being? is the only reason the FBI/Government got involved is because there is a lot of money being thrown around and they're not getting their share. Think about it? What was the crime? What some kid and his folks/handlers lies to a university about receiving funds? You really think the FBI/government got involved because some kid lied to the his school of choice?

Last time I checked there is no law against a shoe company or any company throwing money at young men?

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 23, 2018 05:04 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

You said: Now comes the FBI and says these student are hiding these payments to play college when they would otherwise be ineligible and hence they are conspiring to defraud schools and we will prosecute to enforce basically NCAA rules even when the alleged victims do not consider themselves victims at all

What are they hiding? We both agree it's not against the law for these kids to receive this money. So why is the FBI involved. If I'm correct you're saying because these kids are defrauding Universities like KU? The key point in your belief that makes me stick to the unpaid taxes on monies paid out by the Shoe companies? As you said from your own post The FBI says these students are hiding these payments. Meaning they're not reporting to the IRS the money they are receiving from the shoe companies.

Can't you at least see what I'm saying?

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 23, 2018 01:34 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

I do apologize has I wasn't referring to you. However I think you might have proven my point? If it is perfectly legal for shoe companies to pay HS Kids then why is the FBI involved? You say mere pennies, yet I say how deep does the rabbit hole go. There is some serious money being thrown around.

Are you suggesting that the FBI is only getting involved because Adidas is an Foreign entity? I would say that is Naïve but I won't disrespect you like that. You be right? The FBI's handling recent current events makes me think there is something in the Bureau.

However I still stick to the money/tax theory. It's not just the lack of taxes but where this money is coming from, to whom this money is going too, and how this money is being spent. Remember it was Tax evasion that finally brought down the Al Capone at the hands of the FBI.

Glad it finally happened. Sounds like Girod has already started looking for Zenger's replacement even before he fired Zenger. I think Girod gave Zenger the courtesy of finishing put the academic year before pulling the trigger.

I also don't see Beaty being fired immediately either because there aren't any quality coaches available around Memorial Day. I would expect a new AD to be hired in late June or in July and that Beaty will start the year as football coach, but won't make it to the end of the season. KU has a bye week halfway through the season, I would expect Beaty to be fired after 6 games unless there is significant on field improvement and in the W-L column. That'll give the new AD ample time to identify and hire a quality coach for 2019.

Other coaches that need to go are Brandon Schneider, Ritch Price, and the softball coach because those 3 programs have been really bad either since Zenger got here, or significantly regressed since he got here.

This is a make or break season for Beaty. He either delivers or he is done.

HighEliteMajor said:

The greatest question ever, on all topics, is "why"?

The football failures seem obvious.

But the Adidas issues are more troubling. If he was fired for some role, some complicity, the sacrificial lamb, that could be a concerning "what if."

Word is? The big time KU Donors wanted a change. As they closed their donations to the football program. Yet what do I know I'm naïve?

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 22, 2018 02:22 AM

JayHawkFanToo said:

@DoubleDD

In this one I believe @HighEliteMajor has it correct, the tax money that might have not been paid is way too small to get the FBI involved. The IRS has plenty of agents that could have investigated; there has to be more to the story than we know.

Ok so why do you think the FBI got involved? Because they care for College Basketball? No large sums of money are switching hands without no recourse. As of to date Lanford's Dad has yet to produce a budget for his AUU team or pay taxes on the money he received from Adidas. It's very interesting that the Lanford kid was only interested in Adidas schools, especially seeing how Adidas was the big donor to his Dad and AUU team. AUU Basketball is the biggest scam every created by the Petro Shoe companies. They pay out big time money on the chance of signing the next MJ shoe deal.

If you have another point of view on why the FBI got involved than by all means i'm all ears. Just don't post that I'm wrong without posting why you disagee. It's kind of rude.

I mean it's quite disrespectful to call someone naïve without at least explaining your own point of view. Is it really that farfetched that the FBI got involved because of large amounts of money are switching hands without a proper paper trail? Really?

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 21, 2018 04:23 AM

HighEliteMajor said:

@DoubleDD You said, "The only reason the FBI is involved in all this?" -- I would suggest this is way off base. The taxes, really, are minuscule on $100,000, in the scheme of things. This is grandstanding. Headlines. A prosecutor sticking his nose in an industry that has so many complicit actors that there are no real victims.

I do think we are a bit naive, all of us, if we think Bill Self is "innocent." Oh, I feel the same way. I'm quite sure he didn't direct an Adidas payment to anyone.

But who is really going to sit here and say that Bill Self, as the head coach of Kansas, is unaware of the game being played outside of the game? Anyone? @JayHawkFanToo?

Dude it's not illegal for the shoe companies to shower a AUU team. It's not naïve it's just a fact. Even the NCAA is ok with it. Look at the Lanford Kid. Dad starts an AUU team for his boy, after his boy picks Indiana the AUU team no longer exists. Lanford's Dad got donations of up to 100,000 for a AUU team?The only reason the FBI got involved is nobody is paying taxes on this so called monies for the kids. You're the one that is being naïve. The FBI wouldn't even bat an eye if it wasn't for non paid taxes. Look you started this. Right?

Is Bill Self a Corrupt Coach? • May 21, 2018 01:30 AM

I'm not sure how we can blame Coach? I mean he can only do so much? How many players has Coach left on the bench because of a dark cloud? It would appear to me that only DeSousa has gotten by KU's and Coach's vetting of players. This isn't a KU and Coach problem. This is a NCAA problem. I mean who knew that a stud kid's Dad could start an AUU team thereby receiving money from the shoe companies? Hell I'm thinking about starting an AUU team. Think about buy a few hotdogs for the kids and pocket the rest. The only reason the FBI is involved in all this? Taxes or the lack of. Some person's aren't reporting the crazy income from running an AUU team and paying taxes on it. KU is innocent, and so is Coach.

A dumpster fire? • May 02, 2018 12:21 AM

@drgnslayr

From what I understand the KU Basketball program competes quite well with most Football programs across the country. In fact it does better than the KSU football program and Yes even the mighty MU Football program.

Now if KU can just get the football program up and running? KU becomes a must have if the Big 12 ever implodes.

A dumpster fire? • Apr 26, 2018 11:22 AM

Is it time for KU to dump Adidas? Yes the money that Adidas throws a KU if far greater than Nike. If KU were to become a Nike School, they would take a big pay cut.

Yet why not? Adidas hasn't really delivered. Outside of a couple big time recruits, what has Adidas really done? Oh I don't know ending KU's regular conference streak. Think the NCAA is going to allow KU off the hook? UM KU isn't that East Coast school. Their not UNC or Duke. Once the dust settles? The NCAA is going to torch KU. Say goodbye to the Conference winning streak. Say good bye to the Final 4 run KU made this season. Oh yea the NCAA is jumping out of it's skin at the thought of punishing KU.

I have to say I was bit excited that KU had laid the pipe line to Africa. Now I'm thinking? Talk about a setup?

It's so mind boggling to me with the FBI investgation. That KU Is the focus. What about UK and Coach Cal? Really? What about Duke and Coach K? Really. These cats have been killing it in recruiting. Yet somehow KU is the bad program with the few top talent they get?

It just kills me. Oh these OAD kids want to go to Duke? A private school. They have no chance in hell in ever getting a degree at Duke. They can't even speak normal English yet they have the brain power to attend Duke? Really?

Don't have a false impression. KU is going to get fried. The NCAA is going to send a message. That message is going to be KU on a sliver platter.

Vick moves on. Forgoes Sr Year • Apr 07, 2018 09:19 PM

I hate seeing a kid leave before their senior year. I'm a huge fan of 4 year players. Yet I think the writing was on the wall for Vick. Coach knew it, KU knew it, and Vick especially knew it. Greatly and sadly Coach is a loyal dog but will out recruit a player. This appears to be the case with Vick. With the new Players that Coach is bringing in. There is a very good chance that Vick could go from starter to a bench player next year. With that being said Vick should go, and salvage what he can of a professional basketball career. Even it means playing over seas.

He's was a kid. Those tweets where when he was in high school. We can't hold that against him. Bottom line Coach Jay and Nova are kicking arse and taking names. Though I do have a problem with the university of Villanova trying to cover it up.

Half this story is True • Apr 03, 2018 09:49 PM

Ok so I'm a male Gigolo, and because of my line of work I have blood work done every 6 months. :) Well the nurse that took my blood noticed my KU Cap. Now remember I'm in Iowa AKA God's country, and she was like what happened? Before I can answer she was like it was a great season, yet I didn't feel like they even showed up. Like they didn't even try. Thought it was an interesting take.

Looking at the numbers though KU did indeed showed up. Take away the 20 to 2 onslaught by Nova to begin the game. KU actually won the game by two. Yet I have to admit I too feel like KU didn't show up to play until it was to late.

I remember Coach talking about this team early in the year that they were weak. I wondered what angle he was getting at. Now I think I know. This year's KU just flat refused to play defense. Maybe it was the lack of depth in the paint? Yet this team just couldn't or wouldn't man up on defense.

Anyways it was still a great season. Conference streak is still intact. KU won the Conference Tournament showing they could still win a game in the Sprint Center. Plus they topped it off with a win over Duke and a trip to the Final 4.

All good stuff.

Another team beat three B12 teams to the NC game...WVU, TT, and KU...wow...WOW. They beat our top three teams in the conference and the conference champion, conference tourney champion...WOW.
