Holy cripes.

To @BShark’s point, we didn’t land Precious Achiwua because we weren’t willing to play ball with his guy. Also all but confirmed Rayjon Tucker got a big bag to commit to Memphis after being a silent commit to KU.

Jayhawkslant @Jayhawkslant 1m just talked to elite small forward and #kubball comment @mjrice_1. He's not thinking about the pros.he ready to get to Kansas and get to work.

That's an obvious statement for him to make at this particular time - Of course he is going to say that , he just verbally committed to KU. - He is gonna say whatever he thinks people want to hear right now.

A Lot of time before it's time for him to actually come. Don't feel really all that confident , not alone feeling that way, BUT however he did say he wanted to take the year and continue to work his Senior year and get better. If he comes and think it's like 50/50 probably if he come would be a really sweet get

Yeah, I'm not treating him as a member of the team until he shows up in 10 months.

So honest sincere question here Farmer. - Is Rice that talented to consider G-League right out of high school? I've heard alot of good things about him , must be pretty good if he is one of these players that's considering that.

He is announcing tomorrow. - -The guy from Zagsblog Zagoria is predicting KU would be cool if we can get him on Campus & committed even if IT IS for one year

I think so. The other league (I forget the name) could be an option if the G League falls through.

Soooo I would pay attention to Rice. Think KU and Pitt are the ones to watch, with the G League also on the table.

Bates isn’t old enough for the 2022 draft so he basically has to make a 2 year decision. I saw a lot of speculation yesterday after he made the decision to reclassify that he might go to college for 1 year and then the G-League for 1 year.

Really? Then why reclassify? It would be safer for him to just play high school ball and then go G-League.

NIL has changed the game. Can make some dough in college now, and Bates will make A LOT

Money quote, “You’re going to find that Kansas and (Kentucky) are off the charts in viewers, and then there is everyone else.”

“He added that those are two programs whose numbers are actually competitive with college football.”

So why is this a big deal? The NCAA runs off the NCAA Tournament. Without it, they can’t make ends meet. We’re a key cog in a breakaway strategy. Also, what’s one of the fastest growing industries? Sports gambling. What’s one of the most gambled on sports events? The NCAA Tournament. Conferences will figure out how to monetize it. An alpha like Kansas basketball is very valuable.

Self Has Covid • Aug 05, 2021 03:23 AM

Guys, this is getting tougher. My own mom is very vaccine hesitant. I think the worst thing for her long term was getting a mild covid case last year. She’s seeing rumors of local folks in rural Kansas having strokes right after getting the vaccine. Which, is there a connection? I guess it’s possible. Likely? The data don’t bear it out. So do I tell my grandparents (mid 80’s, lots of comorbidities) to not see her until she gets the vaccine? What do we do about holidays?

This is the big psychological with this situation; not only is it literally tearing families apart with people dying needlessly, it’s needlessly separating families by forcing us to make this stupid, needless decisions. There’s a non-zero chance I’ll get to see my grandparents (we’re all vaccinated) but not my own mom (we might create a bubble since it’s a low vaccine take up county).

Tl;dr: anti-vaxxers make me cranky

OU, Texas to the SEC? • Aug 03, 2021 08:56 PM

Ok this has gone from a wisp of smoke to a full brush fire in the last day+ (while I'm grading finals! A holes) and we're gonna be fine. I expect at minimum KU announcing we're not going to sign an extended GoR. At most we announce we're headed to the B1G in 2025.

OU, Texas to the SEC? • Aug 02, 2021 08:51 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 yes. Theory being the more teams that leave or at least accept invites to other leagues, the faster the Big 12 goes belly up and schools can have a cleaner break. Now is that 2022? 23? I don't know, but that seems to be where things are headed.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I'd think it depends on if they go to 16 immediately and who #16 is. If it's Colorado or Virginia, pods make a lot of sense. If they stay at 15, just add us to the West and be done with it.

@jayballer67 I would be floored if either OSU or ISU ended up in the B1G. OSU isn't an AAU member, and I think probably Notre Dame is the only non-AAU school that the B1G would invite as of now. ISU doesn't really add much. Iowa would hate it and they don't add a lot in terms of consistent success to the league.

OU, Texas to the SEC? • Aug 02, 2021 06:25 PM

@jayballer67 agree on all points. The B1G West games would be fun: Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska(!), Wisconsin, etc.

Who we talking here Farmer ? - -We talking about possibly KU to the ACC OR B1G - or are we talking West Virginia ?

Your Kansas Jayhawks! 0% chance WVU gets even a sniff from the B1G. Academics are not good

ACC or Big Ten. I believe whichever decides to jump in the expansion pool first invites KU.

UNLESS the remaining members go out aggressively and try to add 2 teams 4 teams BEFORE OU & Texas leaves - whatever the case I just can't see these others staying pat.

We know if W Virginia gets any interest from the ACC - - their gone. - can't even be sure that if some of these other Schools get invites that they won't both - -this is now a lame Duck league. I'd rather get this over with /setteled sooner then later. -Our AD and who ever needs to get aggressive and not sit on their hands and get caught with their pants down

They absolutely will not wait until 2025 to leave. Just saying the right things until they can get away for really cheap.

"The vaccine is safe." How do you know? You don't know that for certain because nobody does. If its so safe, why do the manufacturers need immunity? Are we just supposed to take the word of the people that first blamed the origins of this on a bat, then a snake, then a pangolin, but vehemently dismissed anyone questioning whether it came from the Coronavirus Gain of Function research lab 2 blocks from the wet market? 6,000+ people have died in the US directly after getting the shot based on data reported to VAERS thus far, not counting the tens of thousands of adverse effects.

"The vaccine is effective AF" So what are you so worried about if others choose not to take it? It shouldn't impact you at all. Sure, government is making it impact you but its not the non-vaxers fault, blame government. No matter how many get the shot, they will move the goalpost even farther. Remember "two weeks to stop the spread"? It will never end.

This pandemic has been a jackpot for so many people, there 40 new Billionaires in 2020 alone directly resulting from COVID! I'm sure the DC lobbyists aren't using any of this money to buy government influence. :face_with_rolling_eyes:

Point 1: the mRNA vaccines are among the safest vaccines ever developed when tested in trials. Multiple vaccines have been through phase 3 without many issues at all. In a broader context they did find some instance of blood clots after vaccination. However, it's worth noting the risk of blood clots is much higher with covid, "While the rate of VTE after vaccination was, for example, around 1.3 fold higher than background rates, it was 8-fold higher after a diagnosis of COVID-19." (https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3886421) ↗
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/is-the-covid19-vaccine-safe ↗

Point 2: vaccines are nearly 100% effective at preventing severe disease. We know this. However, it does not provide 100% sterilizing immunity, meaning you can still pass the virus onto others. We expected this. If family members to refuse vaccination and get very sick because of me, that affects me A LOT. Virginia does this nice thing where they separate outbreaks by vaccination status. From May 1 to July 22, 97.28% of cases were in those not fully vaccinated. Among those fully vaccinated, .016% became infected with covid (breakthrough cases). Also among the fully vaccinated, .0013% were hospitalized. That's 61 out of more than 4.5 million people. https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/covid-19-data-insights/covid-19-cases-by-vaccination-status/ ↗

Point 3: do not, do not, do not, do not ever use VAERS to make any judgements about vaccine safety. They're all self-reported data (i.e. not validated) and not investigated before they're in the database. Careful analysis reveals significant underlying conditions OR vaccines administered as a Hail Mary to save someone as they're dying from covid. It counts as an adverse event in VAERS, but not anything to be relied on for actual evaluation.

Point 4: I looked up the 40 billionaires claim. That's worldwide, and many were CEO's of the firms that developed vaccines (see point 3). That seems totally fine to me? I mean, not like they were ripping anyone off. If they want to lobby Congress, fine I suppose. Not sure what a test tube maker would be that interested in. https://www.forbes.com/sites/giacomotognini/2021/04/06/meet-the-40-new-billionaires-who-got-rich-fighting-covid-19/?sh=226aad3317e5 ↗

@FarmerJayhawk you think we have a plan ready to go if they jump ship any time? Do you think Girod wants us to stay with the leftovers?

My strong sense is they'll jump on the first offer among ACC, PAC, or B1G. And all else equal, B1G is preferred. I think his comments about athletics budgets in G5 type money were really revealing. The Big 12's payout sans OU/UT (no matter which G5's they add) would be a fraction of our current payout, and Girod knows we have to avoid that scenario if at all possible.

It's a bummer. I've been researching methods to nudge vaccine hesitant folks (remember, vaccine hesitant != vaccine resistant) into getting it and it's tough. Lots of psychological obstacles to get through and my natural language (empiricism, reason) doesn't get the job done. You can send all the studies, data, and articles you want but that won't do much good. Have to meet people where they're at.

Well, we are "out"....the question is just where we are going to be "in". If it is the "Big XII" (or other non-P conference) we are going to be on the stepping stone to death....be it slow or fast depending on where we land. If we don't make the B1G or the SEC our athletic programs are going to take a MAJOR hit.....to the tune of as much as $30M PER YEAR!! I certainly can't write a check to cover that! Can you? The people over on KU Sports seem to think that we're going to be "OK".......I don't know if they are in denial or really just don't understand what college sports have become.....a BIG BUSINESS. And, in BIG BUSINESS, the "little guy" (read: Non P Conferences) really doesn't seem to have much of a chance. Not only would we not have a plate at the table, we wouldn't have a table!! Not trying to be an alarmist, but with I think no more than a 50-50 chance for landing in the B1G and even less for the SEC, I hope our new AD is in 24/7 mode!

Goff isn’t really on this issue. Girod however…

There’s significant interest from B1G Presidents in adding KU. Nobody knows if it’ll happen or not, but looks good as of 9:54 PM 7/26
