@Kcmatt7 the way I think about it is this year basically didn't exist. So whatever eligibility anyone had entering 20-21 carries over into 21-22. So like Curry has 4 years to play 3, Bishop 3 to play 2, Jalen still has 4(!) to play.

@Woodrow I knew about Wright. I don't think Bubba made a serious push for any outside candidate. I bet it was a "hey I have to call so it looks like I tried before I move to real candidates"

@Kcmatt7 lack of experience mostly. He coached the JV team but wasn’t even Roy’s lead assistant. If he didn’t go to UNC he wouldn’t even sniff the gig. Chris Holtmann is interviewing today and if he wants the job there’s no good reason to hire Hubert. But the main requirement to getting the job seems to be going to UNC and playing for Dean.
Best job in the country and they’re going Hubert Davis. This is how you become Indiana.
They see Umude as mostly a 4 who can play the 3 in a pinch. Might end up as a super sub.
Bishop sounds like a total lock. I expect an announcement from Jossell this week (probably early). 100% sure Tyty takes the last spot if he wants to commit.

Really? still that far out on a Coach? - -thought the committee or Search had been having guys come in for interviews. - - Do they have to wait for the Ad or couldn't Girod himself give the go ahead for that. That if it is stil that far out makes me think they won't hire on during the Season and just let Jones have the reins for this Season
Yeah, the AD will want to do his own interviews in all likelihood even though TurnKey did their vetting and all that.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m assuming a new coach would see that and want to keep Jones. Buffalo could easily promote Ianello and leave Jones as an AHC/WR at KU. Frankly I think (presumably) Goff would ask about Jones and if the new guy was smart he’d try really hard to keep him. Similar how Les kept Hull. And if you do the search in November Jones probably leaves anyway and may take some players with him. So if it’s going to happen regardless I think you hire your man now if it’s the same guy you’d hire in 8 months.
But there’s definitely a good case for riding it out with Jones. Best case he’s our Dabo, worst case he’s clearly in over his head and we agree to move on.

Considering the circumstances I think it’s a good hire. Goff is green but has been around one of the best in the business for quite awhile.
I also think the coaching search moves FAST now. The search firm already is vetting and gauging interest. Leipold would take the gig tomorrow if offered.

I think UNC is the marginally better job. More resources available and easier to recruit (Self has mentioned it’s hard to get guys to Kansas). On the other hand, UNC has a lot more headaches given the resources often come with frankly bizarre strings.

Update here. Multiple options in play. At this point I don’t expect Tyty to come to KU. KU is not out of it. I think we’re just behind the 8 ball a bit, but Tyty has time to weigh options and Billy Eugene has a life subscription to whatever coffee he wants because coffee is for closers, as they say.
