I’m saving about $50/month by switching from Spectrum to YTTV. The promo price expired so their base package is up to $73/month. To get all the sports, it’s almost $95, not including fees. That’s when you get ESPNNews, U, FS2, MLB, NFL, and NBA. With a streaming service you only pay sales tax if it applies in your state. You don’t have to separately pay all the broadcast fees (I think it’s like $14/month now) and that kind of thing. I’m also saving by not renting a cable box. I can also stream on multiple tv’s with my Roku and FireStick using all the same apps.
The DVR is YTTV’s biggest draw IMO. Unlimited space and it’s smart enough to record live events even if they start or end before or after their scheduled times. I have mine set to record all KU football and basketball games so I can go back and watch any game since I set it up. Everything works off your Google account so even if the power goes out your DVR still works. I know I sound like a shill for Google but it’s worked great for me in the few years I’ve had it.
So it takes me fewer button presses to get to the ESPN app to find the KU game that it would to flip through my cable guide to one of the ESPN's, plus get more pregame and postgame content while paying less than I ever have and can see every game as a Kansas expat. Lol at wanting Long's head over this. KU made out pretty well financially as well. In addition to the about $4om the Big 12 distributes to each school, each has its own tier 3 rights, which we sold to ESPN for around $10 million. I may be off a bit on that number but it's close.
