Down goes Memphis at home to UGA. Also, our friends to the west blew a 7 point lead at the U4 and lost to Oklahoma. Lolz.
Precious Achiwua would sure look good in crimson and blue. Really excelling as a big for Memphis.

I know it's suffering from some similar issues that AFH does in regards to shifting around the seating for high end donors and students that's dulled it a bit just like AFH.
Assembly Hall at Indiana is a great atmosphere when Indiana is good. Hinkle is up there as well.
The Palestra in Philly is on my list. MSG is on there as well because I'd love to see the Big East tournament there one day.
Not really too many places out west I'd love to see. Only two I can really think of are the Pit at New Mexico and Edmundson Pavilion at Washington.
Cameronās atmosphere is very odd. Itās a cool place, just odd. First thing I noticed other than it being tiny is the baskets hang from the ceiling like a HS gym, not on stanchions. Itās also odd because in the student sections there arenāt seats, just risers so you have to stand the entire time. !Cameron Indoor ā

I don't agree with that.
Right now... Self is a "one hit wonder." You know... like music groups that only pump out one hit. Guess we can say another version of one and done.
Self' should want his legacy to read that he sits on the top line in D1 coaching. He's not there yet. The conference streak was a huge help. But he needs national championships because there exists a pile of coaches that own more than one.
Winning one of anything sounds like a fluke.
Look around. Most of the basketball world puts Roy ahead of Bill. Roy?!!! Mr. Run and Gun. And I like Roy.... but... is he one of the greats ever to coach D1? It's like putting Cal in that group... Mr. Recruiter. Luckily, Cal hasn't won more. Yet.
Yes. Roy is one of the best ever to coach in college by any metric. Will probably pass Dean in wins tomorrow, has several titles.

My question on Wilson is he even eligible for a traditional redshirt this season or would KU have to apply for a medical redshirt for this season down the line since Wilson played 2 minutes against Duke?
If he's eligibile for a traditional redshirt, I would be in favor of that because there's very little about Wilson's game that makes me think he won't be a 4 year player.
If Wilson isn't eligible for a traditional redshirt and would have to go the medical route, I would hold him out until he would still be eligible to obtain a medical redshirt then stash him on the bench as depth.
Of the 3 freshmen this season, Enaruna is still the one I'm highest on long term because of his size, skill, and athleticism and the one with the best chance to leave early.
Braun is playing better than Enaruna at the moment, but he's also already closer to what his ceiling is so I don't see him developing significantly more going forward and will be a fan favorite because of his effort. He's going to replace Garrett as the glue guy that does a lot of little things to make his team better.
Wilson looks like someone who will be in college until he exhausts his eligibility whether that's after 2022-23 or 2023-24. His game reminds me a lot of Perry Ellis with a little bit of Svi mixed in. Like Ellis, Wilson is primarily a below the rim player who prefers playing face up and doesn't have much, if any back to the basket game. He was a good shooter in high school so I think he could develop into a Svi like shooter by the end of his career. I also don't see him ever developing into a good defender. His footwork is just too slow to guard wings on the perimeter and he's too much of a finesse guy to deal with physical post players that he'll have to deal with at times.
Jalen Wilson is a good complimentary piece to have, but if he's the focal point of the offense like Ellis was his senior season, it'll be the same result at the end of the year.
I believe eligibility for a medical is if he played in less than 1/3 of games due to injury.
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
@FarmerJayhawk Were you actually looking for an answer to that question? I think you already know. Your post implied that he would be the 10th man in the rotation if he played. I'm saying that Self probably isn't even sure who the 6th man in his rotation is yet, and that minutes for rotation players 6-10 are still up in the air.
Yes, he will have to get better defensively and improve in other areas as well. Will he? I don't know. He's a freshman. I certainly think he deserves the opportunity to try this season if he wants to.
It was rhetorical. How has he earned an opportunity? If he comes in and lights it up in practice then Iād agree but barring that he hasnāt earned anything but a spot next to Mitch
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
@FarmerJayhawk You aren't the coach. You don't decide whether or not Jalen is the 10th man. You don't decide how many minutes he does play if he is the 10th man.
Dotson, Marcus, Ochai, Doke are getting minutes. After that? If anyone else isn't having a great game I could easily see Jalen taking that player's minutes for that particular game.
We'll see. I don't think Self has a definite rotation beyond maybe 4 or 5 players at this point.
Ummm... no s#!+ Iām not the coach. Not sure where you were going with that. I just asked how many minutes Self (who is the coach) has played the 10th guy historically.
Well, Wilson could improve but itāll be hard to come back and meet Selfās standards on defense when A) heās never been a particularly good defender and B ) he wouldnāt have played real minutes in 3+ months by the time heās back.
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
@FarmerJayhawk And by the way I said people who can't see Jalen fitting with this team lack vision. Somehow that became Jalen would play 15-20 minutes per game and shoot a better % from 3 than he ever has.
And he doesn't need to pass anyone in the rotation to get minutes. Braun and Enaruna are behind Dotson, Garrett, Ochai, and probably Moss in the rotation and they still get minutes.
I can read. You said if heās knocking down 3ās. Well hereās the deal: heās not a great 3 point shooter, low-mid 30ās at best behind the college line and is coming off a severe leg injury. Not ideal for shooting.
By definition for Wilson to get minutes he has to take them from someone. How many minutes has Self played the 10th man historically? Like 3?
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
@FarmerJayhawk Braun. Enaruna. Moss. Any KU guard who is struggling. People are high on Braun right now and low on Enaruna. A while ago people were high on Enaruna and low on Braun. A guy like Jalen Wilson who can play at the 4 and knock down 3's is going to find minutes on a team where freshman struggle or heaven forbid players get injured. I never said it would be 15-20 minutes per game.
What are you going to say when it happens?
If it happens, Bill Self will once again prove heās better at coaching basketball than me. If someone gets hurt thatās an entirely different question.
And to reiterate my point. Not saying Wilson canāt play or be a contributor. Iām just skeptical of him coming in after a pretty nasty injury and being a significant piece of the puzzle and if it were me Iād redshirt him.
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
@BShark Seriously. Who can't see a spot for a guy who can play a stretch 4 and shoot 3's on this team? That's some lack of vision.
Yep Iām sure a guy whoās played 2 minutes all season and hasnāt practiced in months will come in, play 15-20 minutes per night and shoot a better % from 3 than heās ever shot in his entire life. But seriously, whoās he passing to get into the rotation when he wasnāt in the rotation to start the year?
Weāll see how he and the team are playing a month from now, but I donāt see the fit. I think Enaruna and Braun would be ahead of him, so that makes him the 10th man. Get him healthy and ready to compete next year. Going to need him.

Sure, all that is why it makes sense in theory. Itās missing a crucial point, what does Self want to do? The answer to that is stay at Kansas. The Spurs arenāt that good, so why would Self want to leave a top 3 job in the sport to get his teeth kicked in by the LA teams, Denver, and the other Texas teams? Barring a near death penalty Self is staying. At least thatās what heās told Long, et al.
The Spurs could shut down next week and this rumor would pop up again. Nothing to it.

A few things to watch. Emmett Jones is a leading candidate to take the WR coach job at Texas. Former UTSA coach Frank Wilson could be a replacement. Worked for Les at LSU and coached receivers at Tennessee. Lights out recruiter in Louisiana and the across the South. Bowenās replacement will likely be from within.

Doke and Dave together? Nope. Evidence so far is pretty strong.
Self is maybe in a box a bit with Dave and Silvio minutes-wise.

You can see Braun getting more minutes - -Coach is seeing him getting better - - I just think we have to just scrap the 2 big - at least with who we have at the moment. - -If you want to run 2 big's they need to be more mobile that can step out and hit that 10-15 foot jumper with some consistency. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
@Jayballer54 I wish it did too. All off season, I was expecting Silvio to start with Doke. That seemed to make sense. Doke and Dave just doesn't, whether watching or thinking about it.
Braun is progressing, but we should all expect bumps.
@FarmerJayhawk Ah, this is where Self being patient with Enaruna, getting him that valuable PT, has a good chance of paying off in March. I want to win the national title. Enaruna seems like a guy that could develop into an impact type guy. I would not pull that plug. I like the 10-12 minutes with more if he's playing well. We need to transition and go all in 4/1.
Are you thinking fewer minutes than that?
I like the 10ish number. Heās averaging a bit over 16 now, which seems high to me. Iād rather see Braun and Moss, with Garrett or Ochai at the 4. Push Moss closer to 25 MPG given his shooting numbers (42% from 3, 92% from the line) and Braun closer to 15. If we cut Enaruna down to 10 MPG and increase both Braun and Moss by 3 the math works.
Re: patience, thatās what we need with Silvio. Heās learning a new position and shaking off in-game rust. Heās our most mobile and skilled big and a tremendous rebounder. We have an immensely higher ceiling with him vs. McCormack. I love Dave but he and Doke arenāt good together. Would like to see Silvio get more than 9 MPG and Dave less than 17.
4 guards are fine as long as itās the right combination. Iām cooling some on Enaruna at the 4, heās making a lot of mistakes, isnāt making shots, and the advanced stats hate him. More Braun and Silvio, less McCormack and Enaruna.
We absolutely have to post better and pass out of the double. There will be open shooters all day if we can just find them.
