I don’t think we’re really that involved given we’re after 5-6 other guards right now, depending on whether Harris stays in 2020.

I think they’d only take one of Robinson and Davis. Too many midgets running around isn’t good for Bill’s (or anyone’s) defense.

DAJUAN HARRIS
Why him?: MoKan Elite has made what is becoming an annual trip to the quarterfinals at the Peach Jam and the jet quick passer and floor general had an awful lot to do with it. He's as good a passer as there is in the country and he proved to be a legit high major option with his ability to lead, control pace, defend at the point of attack and ultimately lead his team to a win. This guy doesn't care about stats, he just cares about winning.
Recruitment: Signed with Missouri State in the class of 2019 but has reopened his recruitment and mentioned interest from Missouri and Texas with a Kansas offer.
Don’t talk dirty like that to me, Bossi.
Shak Juiston to Oregon. Huge pickup for them. Hope he does well there.
But can we talk for a second about how Grayson Allen is total garbage and dook ought to be shut down for enabling his douchebaggery? https://deadspin.com/grayson-allen-ejected-from-summer-league-game-for-you-1836299774 ↗

@FarmerJayhawk any word on who the staff is watching this week? I’ve haven’t seen Self and the staffs name mentioned much on Twitter.
Have you heard anything on KU and Nix? Or have they prioritized Thompson more now?
Seems like those are the only 2 top 20 players they have a legit shot at...
Update on Nix. Should officially visit KU in the fall. Date tbd.
I'll be really interested to see how the staff plans visits to Late Night this year. We have so many overlapping guys since we really only have needs at PG and the 4-5. Do you have two guys like Nix and Thompson visit on the same weekend? Or do you split them apart and tell each they'll be a starting guard? And that doesn't even factor in Davis and Love. Suffice to say I really liked the guys we're prioritizing and it could be a really fun class.
@Woodrow Niiiice. Love that kid.
@BShark that's last I knew but we'll see.
Also, re: Harris. The plan is to come in 2019, but he needs a few more classes to make it happen. Could be a thing where he shows up first day of school or doesn't come until mid-year.
I'll add Self was watching Thompson for both his games yesterday.

Harris, Adam Miller, Isaiah Todd, and RJ Davis off the top of my head.
Nix is a slow burn. I think KU is in a good spot but he’ll be a spring guy. Thompson will likely decide in the fall.
@Texas-Hawk-10 cool. We can agree to disagree. The last KU team to play Chaminade was a really veteran squad that didn’t really need the reps. I think there’s some use in seeing a style like they play since that’s what they do, unlike KU’s scout team.
It’s about playing the scheme more than anything. If KU’s scout team had to play at Chaminade’s pace and shoot like they do with just a couple days prep, Chaminade would probably beat them.
@Texas-Hawk-10 better than a practice against our scout team. Which was my point.
Texas Hawk 10 said:
@FarmerJayhawk KU beat Chaminade by 51 last time they played. KU will probably get better games against Ft. Hays and Pitt St. than they will from Chaminade.
Which is why I said it was a good exercise, not a test. Good practice to face a team that plays in the style they do.
2 wins also means we'd be the first program in history to lose 100 games in a decade. I'd rather avoid that distinction.
By “too far” he means “in like a week.” https://247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Dajaun-Harris-2020-guard-Kansas-Missouri-Texas-Missouri-State-133589336/ ↗
From my point of view, we have four position groups that are big question marks: QB, OL, LB, and DL. I think MacVittie or Stanley can be serviceable, but neither will be great. There are still a few spots on the OL where we don't have starters. Adeniji at LT is the only lock. DL is a disaster because Beaty never signed a HS DT, which is sort of impressive when you think about it. I think the JuCo guys Les brought in will be ok, but depth is a major concern if we're going to play a 3-4 and possibly 2 gap some of the time. LB is not in great shape, hence taking the JuCo kid late after Jayden Russell didn't make it to Lawrence. I think Kyron Johnson is decent and Steven Parker is super talented, but it makes me nervous that we may have to rely on Gavin Potter for a lot of snaps.
@jayballer73 I doubt it, but the NCAA could decide otherwise. I know the powers that be at KU don't expect significant sanctions.
I'd be really surprised if Todd ended up at UNC. I think they go with Brooks and Bacot at the 4 and 5 in 20-21.
Oh if we get hit with a postseason ban all bets are off. The 2019 class would look like that of 2013.
I guess I'm not that surprised. There still isn't a ton of talent on the team, and we'll only be favored in 1 Big 12 game at most IMO.
Playing Chaminade will be a good exercise for us. Always tough to simulate a team that plays a unique style like they do, and they'll let it fly.
Not sure if it's breaking news, but KU is in a good spot with Isaiah Todd. Self did an in-home over the summer and Todd will visit KU in the fall. Look out below!!
And are to this day a giant pain in my ass
Harris almost got a triple double this morning. Easily one of MoKan’s top players along with Dante. Self was also going to watch Karim Mane but Mane couldn’t make the first game. Should catch him tonight.
@jayballer73 sounds like it’ll be next week and to Kansas. Probably for 2019
Hahahahahaha f those guys

How on earth do you know that? I’m not at all second guessing you it’s just the amount of knowledge some of you have is very impressive.
It was also in a Newell piece today. Harris lived with the Braun’s during AAU season for a couple years.

I can live with those qualities. I'm not jumping up and down seeing that video but if he's improved a bunch from that, I'd rather use the scholarship then hold it. We're one Dotson injury from the sky is falling.
Yep. Plus it seems he is really close with CB. Would be the third MoKan kid recently after none for a long time.
I think he is firmly a RS guy but better to get him on campus and in the KU/Self program for a year than stash him at Sunrise. Like even if Dot gets injured (PLZ NO) I don't think he would play next year.
Basically brothers with the Brauns. There's a rumor he'd be a partial qualifier, but I rarely buy into rumors about grades.

Absolutely. I was thankful we had a really good crew at one time at TTP that actually cared about getting facts right and putting out stuff people would read because it's interesting and original, not "Here are the top 5 NBA busts of all time. You'll NEVER believe who's #1!!!"
Sounds like 2019 is the plan, and he'll likely redshirt unless he pulls an Ochai and goes nuts.
@dylans I'm not sure when those highlights are from, but this summer he's been extremely good apparently.
It’s also FanSided, where the only editorial oversight is if you don’t add enough slides to what you write. Source: used to write for then edited Through the Phog.
I also think there’s a chance he reclassifies back to 2019 later this summer and we RS him.
From Bossi, “Why he's rising: Harris originally signed with Missouri State in the class of 2019, and he could have been a potential player of the year in the Missouri Valley. The guy is just a leader. He wins a lot of games and makes everybody around him better.
Current recruitment: Schools are just figuring out that Harris has gotten his release from Missouri State. Expect high-major offers to flood in during July.”

Yessir. Also betrays a lack of understanding about the underlying offense when citing the arrest affidavit instead of the contents of the diversion agreement, which has the set of facts in the case, “When I entered, I confronted (the victim) about cheating on me. I was upset and I grabbed her by the arms during the argument,” the stipulation of facts read. “The other people in the room separated me from (the victim), and I left the room. I later returned to get my keys. I grabbed (the victim) by the wrist to get her to come to the hall with me, but the other people in the room separated me from her. I was able to get (the victim) to come out to the hall with me. While out in the hall we continued to argue and I pushed (her) out of the way and left.” Quote from Newell's piece.
It's certainly not good and there's never a good reason to put your hands on a woman, but it's not Joe Mixon bad. On the Baylor guy, he got off light. He was serially abusive to his dog and had to surrender it. Calculated cruelty is far worse than a crime of passion in Pooka's case.
I watched Ryan Willis gut Va Tech to a victory over UNC in Chapel Hill last fall. It took a UNC fumble on the goal line, but Willis led a really great drive to ice it for Tech. The whole experience gave me a sad.

Nailed it. Pooka out for CC but back for the rest of the year assuming he keeps his nose clean. 7 month suspension, ongoing monitoring (including university probation until he graduates), and fulfilling the terms of his diversion is good enough.

Illinois is going hard on Adam Miller, but his mom tells me he's kind of 50-50 between them and us and he will make a visit to Lawrence. He'd be a good add to NEXT YEARS TEAM (I figured it out @KUSTEVE) I don't often have inside info on recruiting, well, I never had, until now.
Would take 10/10 times. Have to really like all the guards we’re really in on at this stage. Especially since the staff wants to move Marcus to the 3 barring him developing a consistent jumper.

Yeah... no. That many years is pretty much impossible to fake. That would mean he was like a HS senior in Nigeria and then came to the US and basically redid high school. Perry on the other hand... /s

@FarmerJayhawk Silvio didn't come back to KU to pursue an international career, he came back to pursue an NBA career and he has to expand his range to play the 4 in the NBA and that probably takes the next two seasons. If he shows some 3 point range this season, then he will likely The international offers will always be there for him.
Ochai's draft status will largely depend on how his health holds up. His NBA position is on the wing as a 3 because he doesn't have the handles to be on ball. His draft status is largely based off his athleticism and if his injury issue from last year is chronic or recurring, that kills Ochai's draft stock.
I have no issues with recruiting as if those two will leave because nobody wants a repeat of the 2011 recruiting cycle when Self didn't plan on the Morris twins leaving. That said, Self can't commit Agbaji and DeSousa's scholarships to others until it becomes more clear if one or both of them are NBA prospects for the 2020 draft.
Right, I just don't think he'll ever be a real NBA prospect and that's the feedback he'll get if (when) he tests after this season. I'm just not sure what he does at the NBA level. Not sure he's skilled enough to play the 4 and probably too small with too short a wingspan to play the 5. I think he'll be an extremely good college player and make a bunch of money overseas. Nothing wrong with that.
@Marco that's my read on him from watching him. I don't think he's quick enough to guard most 3's, especially since it seems like teams are going with 3 guards more often now instead of 2 guards and a wing or vice versa.
Silvio has played less than 200 minutes of college basketball. There's nowhere near enough game tape on him to have a fair evaluation of him at this point.
Here's what we do know about Silvio. He is currently listed at 6-9 and 250 lbs. He has an NBA body already at this point. His advanced numbers in his limited minutes also suggest he has very good upside. He's PER was over 20 and his rebounding rate was about 25% and his offensive rebounding rate was north of 20% in Big 12 play. He was also a 71% FT shooter in limited attempts, but that number suggests he has a good enough form to have range out to the mid-range and can probably extend out to the 3 point line.
There's just not enough on him yet to definitively say he's not an NBA caliber player. Silvio DeSousa was a 5 star recruit for a reason. Silvio is definitely on NBA radars, they just want to see what progress he's made since he last played a competitive game because he did practice with the team all season last year.
The advanced numbers are of almost no use in a sample size that small. It's the equivalent of saying a hitter is going to always hit for power after watching him for 50 AB's. Sure you might be right, but precision with that small of sample is mathematically not possible.
He's definitely on radars (since he was invited to the G League combine) but I just don't see a long NBA career for him. He's small for a 5 with just a 6'10 wingspan, and that's even small for a NBA 4 man. Given the direction of the league and Silvio's game, I'm just not sure what he does at the next level. But he'll be a really good college player.
Fun story about Udoka's age (I actually think he's a year or two older than his listed age). On the AAU circuit he used to forget what year he was supposedly born and his coach had to inform him it was 1999. Relatively common practice to make African kids younger when they come over, similar to Latin baseball players (e.g. Vlad Guerrero, Albert Pujols, Miguel Tejada). Doesn't really affect my opinion of Udoka at all, I think he's a fantastic college player who will really struggle in the NBA, whether he's 19 or 25.

@Texas-Hawk-10 word around the program is everyone expects Silvio to leave. He's had some really good offers overseas and he'll probably never be a 1st round pick, so might as well maximize his earning years. I think Ochai has a good chance at being a 1st rounder this year just based on his athleticism and shooting ability. Especially since it's an absolutely putrid draft. 2021 is going to be a lot better draft.
@Texas-Hawk-10 gahhh. It was supposed to read "greater than 90%"
If I had to take a gander as of July 3, 2019:
90% of leaving: Dotson, Moss, Doke, Silvio
More likely than not: Ochai.
Staying: everyone else. Mitch redshirts.
So we'll need 2 guards, 2 bigs, and a wing in recruiting. I'd really like a skilled 4 to complement Dave. Isaiah Todd would be perfect. Dawson Garcia and Josh Hall are other options. As far as a wing, Fletcher out of St. Louis or Kyree Walker would be good fits. At the guard spots, Thompson is target #1, and he'd be a great complement to a pass first PG like Nix, who KU still really feels good about. Caleb Love is another guy out there to watch. Maybe Ty Berry is a take late if he has a great senior year. The other big should be a 5 for depth. Mady Sissoko would be perfect. Could be this year's Oscar T at WVU.
A guess at a starting lineup: Nix, Thompson, Garrett, Wilson, McCormack. I think Enaruna, McBride, Sissoko, and Lightfoot would be the main subs. I think it'll be hard to get a 5* kind of 4 man since the position is kind of crowded. Could see us going small again, though Wilson isn't tiny by any stretch.
