We’re not getting him if Vick comes back. The staff is recruiting him like Vick is gone, as they should, no matter what they think he’ll do.
Billy and Malik are going pro no matter what. They want to get paid, whether it’s in the NBA or overseas.
A couple thoughts here. As of today, Doke will be back. He's not really on draft radars as of yet. People forget he's just 18 and a couple months old. He has to show continued development on both ends, especially rebounding. He'll have to get much better there to be an impact NBA center. Vick is the only guy we have that's really caught the eye of scouts. They love his length, athleticism, and shooting ability. Just needs to refine it all and put the whole thing together. He'll have plenty of opportunity this year. Newman is gone. He's ready to get paid, whether that's in the NBA, Europe, or Australia.
KJ is a small ball 4 at KU. That's the spot where he maximizes strengths (passing, rebounding, defense) and minimizes weaknesses (shooting, handling). People are forgetting how good Dedric is. He has like 36 career double doubles already, plus gets a year with the best S&C coach in America to work on his below average athleticism. There's no reason he can't put up T-Rob type numbers next season. He's also a tremendous passer. He and Doke could run the hell out of the high low, and we can space the floor with all the guards. The real guy to watch over the next couple years is Garrett. The staff is over the moon about him, and have basically guaranteed him a starting spot next season. His development is another reason why I don't think we get Langford. I think there's actually a good chance they'd prefer starting Garrett over Romeo.
You can test the NBA draft waters as many times as you like under the new rules. But I think it's more likely than not we're done adding immediate impact guys. I'm actually happy about it, since it means (I'd say more likely than not) Vick and Udoka come back. I'd rather have Vick than anyone left on the recruiting board. And we've all seen what a monster Udoka can and will be.
I was messing around with lineups on a study break and came up with this depth chart as the one I think is most likely. Have fun America. And I didn’t forget Lightfoot. I just think he should RS if he’s the 6th big.
G: Dotson, Moore
G: Grimes, Garrett, Moore
G: Langford/Vick, Garrett, Cunliffe, Lawson
F: Lawson, De Sousa, Lawson
C: Azubuike, McCormack, De Sousa

Some one fill me in on the John Philip De Sousa thing. I've been quite busy and haven't been able to keep up.
He’s reclassifying to write a new fight song. Or something.
@jayballer54 2013. That early haul was insane. Greene, Frankamp, Mason, Selden, and Embiid.
His mom is from my neck of the woods. Knew she wouldn’t let all us Jayhawks down!
Kind of cool he’s doing it at a meet the team event.
GCU is a large Christian university as well. A lot of guys really like the faith element. Also for-profit, but really neither here nor there.
It’s over. What a haul. We’re pretty much done recruiting now for awhile. I think only one realistic target left (Langford). And that’s only if Vick leaves. Givony at ESPN is saying Udoka isn’t really on draft radars yet this season. More likely than not we bring them both back than neither as of today. Have fun America.
Should be a Facebook Live stream too.
Dude we’re going to sign 10% of the top 40 fat minimum this year. Simmer.
🐦 View Tweet Clerical.
@BShark :metal_tone2:
Short answer, it’s a clerical thing with a temp tag on the car.
Tiny update. Staff didn’t know about the car deal until today. He should be back shortly.

@FarmerJayhawk Who'd you ask?
@jayballer54 The powerful Big 12 flexing its early season muscle.
Won’t say. But I’m not changing my mind. More good news tomorrow.
I did! Sounds like we’re talking to different people. I know he has contacts in the South, so maybe he’s talking to people on UT’s end.
Just asked around again on Grimes. Still Kansas.
I still think so. He's so talented and Vick may decide to leave. I don't want to rely on Moore as the starting 2 if Vick leaves and we miss on Grimes.
He definitely is. With all that's around him, Grimes could shoot 42%+ from 3 next season. He'll get some great looks with Garrett, Dotson, and Vick/Langford slashing.
I wouldn't read too much into anything Langford until later. This one will go on for awhile.
I still think we get Grimes, but if we don't, Langford is still on the board. Though I do think he wants to play with Grimes, so maybe Vandy gets him to go with Garland. But it is interesting that we're seeing the staff so high on Garrett that they're penciling him in the lineup next season no matter what. I don't blame them because Garrett is going to be phenomenal. But missing on Grimes would sting like crazy.
If we get Grimes and Vick stays, it eliminates us for Langford. Newman was gone after this year the minute he signed.
I’ve never heard UT is doing anything other than making it interesting. KU has led wire to wire. If anything changes, I’ll let you all know.
Haven't heard anything other than Kansas.
UT has no scholarship seniors, but will almost certainly lose Jones and Bamba to the NBA. So that takes them to 10 scholarship players. They've signed 4 in 2018, so they already have to cut one to get to 13. Two to add Grimes.
Definitely. He does have a tendency to just glide through some games. But he absolutely has the tools to be a great wing defender. Very good athlete and long (6'10 wingspan). Self would be perfect for him. His outside shot can be more consistent too. Good thing KU's staff is probably the best at developing shooters.

I think at this point it would be a mistake to not give Marcus his due after this season. HS rankings aside Garrett has come more prepared then 95% of freshman Self has gotten in his time. Of course I'm basing this on what we've seen to date. Imagine how much better he'll get in an off-season as well
Oh no doubt. I've been on the Garrett hype train for a long time. https://throughthephog.com/2016/08/02/pg-marcus-garrett-commits-kansas/ ↗
From what I've seen of Romeo, he's the most gifted scorer in the class. Fits perfectly next to Dotson and Grimes. Garrett will be a glue guy/stopper.
No questioning Romeo's skills. He's got game.
Starting 3 freshman in the back-court. We know Self better then that. Fun problem to have though if he has that type of talent putting on a KU jersey
Right. Grimes or Langford may not start right away, but they will eventually. But I don't think we end up with him because Vick will come back.

Think Garrett has any impact? Next year the kid is going to start.. Hopefully not too much of an impact
Nope. He's going to be a great player, but no way he starts over Langford. He can provide terrific depth 1-3 though.
Mechanically, all KU would have to do in a reclass would be to not hold him to his 18-19 LOI. Just receiving it has no impact.
We're in a great spot if Vick goes pro. I think if it was always IU or they were the clear leader, there would've been more to him signing early.
A prototypical Self wing too. Can score at all levels and has the tools to defend. Great option if Vick goes pro.
As expected, Garland to Vandy. Only helps KU with Langford.
Evan Daniels is saying it’s “up in the air” between Texas and KU. He’s half right. UT finished 2nd.

Herro announcing Tuesday. Kentucky obviously.
Yep. They’ve moved on. Texas only one who thinks they’re left with KU. lol Shaka.
Haven’t heard anything but Kansas has this one locked up and Grimes will sign this week.
Final 3: Kansas, Indiana, Vanderbilt. If Vick goes pro, I’ve heard he’s KU’s to lose.
He's got a lot more experience than Cheick did, that's for sure. However, he'll have much less time in Self's defensive system, so he'll struggle mightily for quite awhile.
A good parallel is Austin Wiley at Auburn last season. I️ just have to put this out there. Just because this dude broke the story, don’t think it’s ok to DM recruits and ask for info. It’s one of the worst things you can do as a fan, and absolutely has affected recruitments. Doing it makes the entire program and fanbase come across as creepy. You wouldn’t want randos filling your kid’s inbox. So just don’t do it, even if you think you can break a story.

Garrett, Jacobs, McCormack and likely Grimes. For those keeping score at home.
Before that he had only really landed Cliff so it's good to see him get some kids on board.
Also Newman, if you want to count transfers. Grimes should sign early next week. May just be a logistical thing with ESPN. KU will definitely pursue Langford and Zion until they're eliminated or the recruits commit somewhere else. We've come this far and don't really have a numbers issue, so might as well shoot for the moon. KU won't get both though. I actually prefer Langford if Udoka comes back. Just better fit because I think Zion is way more a 4 than 3.
Sure, KU has a shot at Zion. As does Duke, UK, and Clemson. I think SC and UNC are window dressing. It mostly depends on how rosters shake out. UK will have to have guys leave on the margin (like Vanderbilt), and we'd have to have Vick and/or Udoka leave, depending on if the staff wants him at the 3 or 4. This one could drag on until April, or be over in December. It's totally up in the air right now.

This class is shaping up to be one of Bill's best. Love the combination of OAD types (Grimes, maybe Langford/Zion) plus program builders that won't leave us scrambling for guys over the next few years. Bill's more experienced teams tend to be the better ones anyway, so I could see a run like we had from 07-12 coming.
18 + 19 has the chance to be a very special 2 class combination. Self can afford to be very choosy in the 19 class where KU seems to be quite well positioned.
For sure. 19 is going to be a supplemental year. Go get JRE, Lawson, and Harvey first since they could be fish in a barrel type recruits. And you already have Jacobs, so that’s 4. Then shoot for an elite wing to replace whoever is at that spot next season.

Always good to get the blood dry.
@JayHawkFanToo there’s a non-zero chance he’s a cyborg.
Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying don’t take him at semester. You absolutely do without a moment’s hesitation. I️ am saying temper expectations for what he can do. Don’t expect him to be a good defender, regardless of his physical tools, and don’t expect him to score much. Picture a much worse Cheick, who’s obviously talented but has no clue what to do.
