He’s just raw still. At most he’s an emergency body.
Grimes is a max 2 year guy. Dotson won’t be here for 4 years either. Jacobs won’t be a big contributor until year 2-3 anyway. No worries there.
I️ think everyone is overestimating how much he could help yet this season. Our scheme for bigs is notoriously difficult to pick up, and Silvio is still learning the game.
Hasn’t been cleared yet by the NCAA. May have dodged a bullet there.
I️ brought it up as complete speculation. Silvio keeps things close, so we won’t know until he announces whatever it is.
I’d redshirt him. He won’t pass Mitch in the rotation, so barring an absolute emergency, wait until 18-19.
He’s a teammate of Silvio’s at IMG. Can’t hurt.
Calipari was holding out for Barrett. There’s some bad blood between RJ and Shittu for some reason.
Dedric would start on almost any team in America right now. Putting up 19/12 is no joke. He’s going to be an absolute monster once Hudy gets done with him. Keep in mind he was putting up those numbers as one of the least athletic guys in the country.
Almost like it will happen soon...
Ohhh yes. It very much appears that way. Everyone cool with adding a 5* wing too? We have a good shot at landing one.

@jayballer54 Watch for Garland to commit to Vandy. If he does, that's good for KU. Langford wants to play with other 5*s. He is also good friends with Grimes.
Bingo! Howard hit a homer on his visit with Langford earlier.
I hesitate to say this, but I heard rumors Bragg had an issue with pills too. I really hope they were just that.
Kentucky is probably out for Grimes. They aren’t getting all of him, Keldon Johnson, and Herro, even if Shai is a OAD (doubtful).
At this point, I don’t think KU leads for either. But a senior Vick is probably preferable anyway.
KU still has a shot. But they won't get both he and Langford.
:)
I'm not sure it's done yet. I think it's going that way though. I'll find out more tomorrow.
Staff visiting again today. Go lock him up!
KU until I hear differently. He’ll commit and sign mid-November.

Just gimme Grimes and two scrubs or bank the schollies. 11 eligible players is enough.
I’m still greedy. Langford is gettable after he visits this weekend. IU just blew him away last weekend apparently. I want one more 5*, then I’ll be happy with the class and we can focus on either transfers after mid-season or developmental guys.
Long way to go for Langford. He’s visiting this weekend, and like we saw with Dave and Silvio, it can change everything.
We’ve done everything right. If he goes elsewhere it’s not on KU.

@BShark I'd like to put a 6'5 guard on the ball defensively... I wonder what his wingspan is
I think around 6’7. Not long for a guy his size.
Entire staff went to see him. Nothing has changed my mind that he’s a strong lean.
I was pretty stoked about this kid when he signed. He’s going to surprise some people. https://throughthephog.com/2016/08/02/pg-marcus-garrett-commits-kansas/ ↗
I like Zion, but the more I think about it, the fit is just weird. How do we play him? He’s a collegiate 4, but what if Udoka comes back? Do we square peg round hole him as a wing? I mean Self can figure it out, but I just think Langford is the better fit.
After this weekend, Grimes is about as locked on KU as it can get, barring something really bizarre like Newman coming back. He may not sign early, but he’ll be in crimson and blue.
@BShark I’m that scenario I’d start Zion and Dedric at the 4/5. Assuming Udoka declared. I’m not sure what you’d do with all 3.
@BShark it’s not super popular, but I actually would rather have Langford for that reason. He’s the best pure scorer in the class at all 3 levels. I’m not sure how Zion would fit as a wing since he doesn’t have 3 point range yet.
Only sure OAD we land would be Langford or Zion. I don’t think Grimes is. Just don’t see the athleticism. Unless the NBA thinks he’s a PG.
@BShark I always forget about Jacobs. Honestly he could probably RS his freshman year behind Dotson and Moore.
If you could build a PG for Self, he’d look a lot like Dotson. His only weakness is consistency on his jumper. Some kid named Mason eventually figured it out, so I think Dotson will be a close to 40% 3 point shooter by the time he leaves KU. But also super competitive on both ends. He’ll be a leader right away on a young team.
I think we sign 3 more, and possibly take a late transfer depending on who stays and goes. Newman and Preston have pretty much booked their tickets to the combine. I still have questions on Udoka and Vick. So we can sign probably 5 easily. The last scholarship is TBD.
All the staff has done work so far. Each assistant has a guy on the board. Howard will probably end up with the early lead.
I hate this idea. I want nothing to do with them. Find another team. UMKC for all I care.
If Dotson has made up his mind, only he and the family know. They’re not talking to anyone until tomorrow night. I’m sticking with KU because I haven’t seen or heard anything that suggests Maryland passed KU.
Nothing is leaking. People are seeing things where there’s nothing, just to fill the information void.
We have a good shot at Romeo, especially if Zion goes elsewhere. He did say this weekend he really likes Grimes and would be a fun guy to play with. I think we close on Grimes this weekend, but he’ll take the Marquette visit. Dotson could pop this week too. Still think KU.
Hope the kid gets well. I was hoping he’d get out of Chicago. But at this point, hopefully he gets to CSU and they can build a support system around him to help him start the process.

I'm betting on Maryland being the pick.
I am not. Sticking with KU until I hear differently.
Kind of a brilliant move for him to take the reins of that team, honestly. I don't think it'll make much difference with the guys we're after. UK is getting some buzz with Grimes, but I don't think it's real at all. Zion may end up there, but that depends on who stays and who goes from UK at the end of the season too. He won't go to UK with Vanderbilt and Washington still there IMO.
To start the season, I bet we go with Graham, Newman, Vick, Preston, and Udoka. I could also see Svi beating out Preston for the 4 spot if he struggles by sinking back into the bad habits he's always had. Nothing grinds Self's gears like a slow motor, and Billy has pretty much always had one. If reports are to be believed, Svi has grown a little bit and lost some weight, so he should be better on defense. I know Self said he'd like to play big 70% of the time, but that's entirely dependent on how Preston plays.
Should be next week for Dotson. Grimes toward the end of the month/early November.
I feel really good about Grimes and Dotson signing with KU early.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Or is it possible he just didn't really consider KU until KU moved him higher on their board? The staff put in a ton of work this summer watching him and making it known Zion was a priority. Could it be that Zion just liked what he heard?
@BShark I listened to that too. Really solid podcast. 2019 should be a low volume recruiting year. Get JRE, Lawson, and Harvey to go along with Jacobs and call it good. Not sure we have a shot with many top guys in 19.
I still feel really good about Dotson (especially now that Florida is out) and Grimes. Grimes knows he’s a college 2 and wants to play with a good PG. And if we get Dotson we’ll have two. Both are looking to sign early too. I’m also pretty optimistic about getting one of Zion and Langford. I think both will sign late, so there’s plenty of time to make an impression, and they’ll be our only major targets.
Can we also talk about how insane it would be if we signed 10% of the top 40 in the early period? That’s a hell of a class right there.
Louisville officially out. I think KU has the upper hand here, but Indiana is a strong competitor too.
