@Statmachine ECB
@KUSTEVE That just happened!
Oh, and it was done by one coach vs. several, a record that is all his own and sets him above Wooden, Bobby Knight, Coach K, Roy, Izzo, Cal, Tubby, Rupp, Dean et al.
@jaybate-1-0 Not to mention that Newman was in foul trouble in the first. I thought for sure we were gonna have a Sam sighting, but then Marcus put the hammer down with that wickedly awesome tomahawk slam, and that was that. Most remarkable of the 14 for sure, and so fun to see the ball bounce the right way for Devonte.
Is it me or did we really start gelling after preston took off?
I am astounded how much discussion can be generated over 2 free throws!
@benshawks08 Yes it was egregious.
@bmensch1 He pushes off every time...only way he can get open. He should have had 2-3 offensive fouls mon night.
@CRH107 Like most guys, he has lost his keys.
@kjayhawks That makes more sense with cole and collins in the house. Thx for clearing up. They made no mention of it and i did not notice the patch.
Hey i guess it spurred another awesome comeback! So i will quit my crying!!
Lost in the shuffle of a couple glorious KU home victories was a curious wardrobe issue from the WV game.
Can anyone recall a time where we wore blue in AFH? Did the WV trainers spill Appalachian Mountain sauce on their away unis?
Did anyone else take umbrage to us wearing our away colors at home? It sort of bugged me, but the outcome made it tolerable I suppose. Thoughts or theories?
@KUSTEVE It was really fun seeing the guys go nuts for Silvio live at AFH.
@KUSTEVE. silvio grew up last night!
@Bosthawk He pumped on the up and under with the sweet left fisnish. Right in front of me by the way. He already has it. Silvio spark and Mitches blocks brought huge energy to the crowd. Silvio saved the day IMHO
The walk call on silvio was bs. The ou guy bumped him then fell on him.
@KUSTEVE Booger may be too high of praise.
@BeddieKU23 I dont think so. In a tight conference race, that message could and should have been delivered much earlier.
@KUSTEVE If I am a major college level player, I would want my shots too. And now he is shooting a lot and not making, so that will really get other guys irritated.
@BShark I would not be surprised if trae goes, we never hear from him again. He will get abused in the league with that frail frame.
@Kcmatt7 Better get some real pitchers.
@BShark yawn, move along, nothing to see in Norman. Flash in the pan comes to mind. He's not steph curray.
Guess what Trae, your prediction was WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You won't even sniff unseating KU from the B12 crown. Hit the weigh room and come back next year when you can maybe hang with the big boys.
@KUSTEVE I agree. You can certainly see it. Bill would not be playing him in such critical moments if he did not trust him to be solid. Think of how battle tested he will be as a senior. He will be great.
@Crimsonorblue22 Nice one. If he was an AAU team he'd be, "Hype, There it is!"
@BShark And he has now canned a 3 in consecutive games, so the other teams are going to have to start coming out on him, which should lead to the blow by!
@JayHawkFanToo Irrelevant. The Wall is the Wall and they all hit it according to their position. I recall the Twins hitting it hard their frosh year. Dok while (Captain) Obviously was gassed, has continued to build and improve and fought through the fatigue wall. Trae does not appear to be able to do this.
@BShark And that exact same play has happened to Devonte a couple times this year. Wonder why we can't get that obvious call?
@JayHawkFanToo My interest in the Royals just fell to an alarmingly low level after my ardent support from 1975-1994, 2013-2017. I doubt I will go to one game this year. A truly sad day.
Here is another angle to this....Should Dok not also be hitting the wall? He is playing his first full year (granted he has more Hudy time to provide him a stronger base), so in theory he should be fading but he is getting stronger/improved performances. Is our conditioning coach just way better than all the rest?
@HighEliteMajor What do you make of the announcers repeatedly saying the calls were horrible in WV favor? You don't hear that often, especially not in KU's favor. Were some calls missed? Yes, esp the last block by Dok that was a clear foul, but I think extreme fouling by Huggy finally backfired.
@BShark I don't think so. He looks, really, really tired. And now he has to come back and play again on the road, travel, fatigue, the weight of back to back sub standard performances. The pressure is all on Trae. And I bet Bill blankets him with Vic who looks fresh.
If I am not mistaken, he stepped to the line with us down 7 and canned them both. A miss there could have been fatal.
@jaybate-1-0 Bailing wire, spare parts, duct tape and Devonte tough as nails. Just an outlandishly amazing coaching job. It shows he is the best regardless of total NC's won.
@jaybate-1-0 Like anything in life, when you devote time to it, you are going to get better at it. We all devote a lot of time (maybe too much??? No WAY!!!) to KU hoops. I recently agreed to coach my 15 year old son's indoor soccer team. I know little about soccer but coached basketball for a long time. I have watched enough soccer and gleaned from observing his coach's both good and bad to know enough to do a serviceable job for a rec indoor league. We even won a couple games! Years of observing, studying, dissecting, and breathing the greatest game of all time will lead to knowledge. We won't have the X - O depth of Larry Brown, but that does not mean we won't know key parts of the game.
Look at Dok's free throw shooting. We were all going nuts saying why has a coach not pulled him aside and taught him the right way to do it? Lo and behold a week later young Dok has a brand new form and a skyrocketing free throw percentage. We could all see the fundamental problem because we all (for the most part :-)) know quite a bit about roundball.
Self is a smart guy. If there is a way to pick up an edge from anything he will be doing it. Now the ultimate would be in the presser when Bill goes: "Well something Jaybate 1.0 observed really altered my approach...."
For years I told my friends to read this message board (and it's previous iteration) because the analysis, info and insights were far greater than the drivel the press (read: Keegan!) was generating. Plus the writing is often of a much higher quality and there is a lot more humor. Who needs the stinking press! It is a brave new communication world.
Time + knowledge = wisdom. It is fun to get wiser about this great game as we all analyze and pontificate together.
@jaybate-1-0 I was thinking about this yesterday, I think you are right and he has hit the Frosh wall. Look at DG Mr. 40 min man, senior, Hudyized, grinding through while the young flower withers. He's a man. Young is still a boy. KU 89 OU 72!!! Go Hawks!
Self even said they shot a ton of 3s and we drove, drove, drove. Perhaps Huggies thugball massive fouling and mauling style finally caught up to him?
Live by the free, die by the free.
However, Dok did foul the guy at the end when Higgins screwed Huggins.
There is now...Hos is gone.
LOL the shoes are the best!!!
@jaybate-1-0 I will be at the OU game so i will will them to victory!
@jaybate-1-0 Well the formatting did not work, darn it. I had the 2 teams in columns with who they play and their conference ranking. When you add up the ranking of remaining opponents, we have slight edge. Looks a lot better in the chart!
Yes it was. Let's look a this from a Ranking standpoint...I hope the formatting works.
KU - 4 Losses TT - 3 Losses
WV - 3rd BU - 5
OU - 5 OSU - 8
TT - 1 KU - 2
TX - 9 WV - 3
OSU - 8 TCU - 6
Total 26 25
High composite ranking score is better. KU should win vs. WV, OU, and TX. Lose to Tech (Loss 5)
Tech should win vs. Baylor, KU and TCU. Lose to WV (Loss 4)
So it boils down to how both teams fare against OSU in Stillwater. If we lose to TT then we have to win at OSU. And TT would have to lose at OSU for us to get the tie.
I was unfortunately at the KU/OSO tilt in Lawrence, so I would hope Bill would have the boys ready for redemption in stillwater. They are not a great team but we play poorly there.
Looking at the ranking and adjusting the total for away games (an extra point to us since they have 3 on the road), I say we have a slight edge in eeking out the tie for the conference. But it is razor thin. Should we stumble vs. WV or OU, we are done for because I don't see us winning in Lubbock.
It is clear the minutes are affecting his shot as they pile up, but the the stat of being down 20 pts or such in the few possessions DG did not play tell it all. He has to be on the floor to give us a chance. Warrior.
@KUSTEVE @jaybate-1-0 So here is an interesting thought, if Bill Self were a current poster on KU Buckets, what alias would he currently be operating under?
@jaybate-1-0 And did you see him SKY for that one board. He was WAY up there. And he played pretty bad in the first half and then turned it on. His trifectanating won us the game along with Dok owning the paint.
@Gunman What Coach is doing with/to Silvio is really unfair. How is he going to gain any confidence if he yanks him out after being in for 30 seconds every game. Self is really hurting us with that ridiculously short leash. Don't even bother playing him then.
The 16 to 11 foul disparity did play a factor in engineering the game for Baylor. Several of the fouls on Dok and Mitch were absurd. But if Dok has the ball or is going for a board, the other team can pummel him to death with no whistle.
I he played Silvio more and DG less so that he could get some rest, it would help the bigs and cut down on DG's To's.
Now that we have losses to BU and OSU, a tie for the conference championship seems to be our only hope. And that is if we can steal one in Lubbock, which will be no easy task.
@Gunman I recall him saving some people from the car, and no doubt he was in danger as well. From heroic to historically stupid. Still plenty of time to get his act together, and I hope he does. He was a unique talent when not doping.
@drgnslayr he had ALOT of it in the car. Sad.
BG arrested for drug trafficking. Look like Bill was Weeding out the bad apples afterall.
@jaybate-1-0 Dixon was not gonna let svi beat him. And little did he know newman would slump to the occasion. But DG mitch and Garrett did just enough to avoid apocalyptic disaster. Williams smothered svi like Beverly Goldberg smothers Adam and Barry.
