@wissoxfan83 no. He'll get going in the second half and the refs will swallow their whistles. A little transition d and rebounding and we'll win this by 30+
Nice!! back to back threes
@kjayhawks being lazy. no urgency
wow, our transition d is horrible. After the first minute, I think everyone in the gym could tell Washburn was going to run tonight.
Mason is awesome tonight
Svi again!!
@dynomitehawk you are correct
@kjayhawks ball movement is not too bad, but poor rebounding is the worst.
another foul!!! Good gracious
alright, let's close out the first half strong
no need to overhelp there by Vick
there we go!!
Another foul!! Boy, hope we play more focused than this real soon!
@kjayhawks effort
10 to's so far. not good
Bad d by vick
I disagree with Piper - the defense looks pretty good, except for in transition. The guards are not rebounding is what the problem is.
not group rebounding in the four guard lineup.
hopefully the zebras swallow their whistles the second half. This is a boring half.
@DanR for sure
whose covering who is terrible in transition
JJ thinking too much.
@BeddieKU23 yep. bad defense there too
Vick is a great shooter - has a smooth stroke
very little rhythm because of the whistles
@BeddieKU23 I normally don't talk about the refs, but some of this stuff is stupid. Doke's second was nonsense. Playing pretty well otherwise.
@Crimsonorblue22 there's already a note on ESPN's website about him and his "incredible four point play". The slobber fest continues
@BeddieKU23 UK will be good later on in the season - really can't take much out of the Clarion given the low level of competition. Agreed about Adebayo - reminds me a bit of Julius Randal. Willis is deadly from outside, but can he do anything else?
@jaybate-1.0 you're right - it can be taken as looking soft. But we know he is tough because of what he did at the WUG and he has tussled with Rico Gathers on a few occasions and Ridley and Ibeh at Texas. And he has gained muscle and improved his conditioning. He should be fine from a physical aspect.
@ralster I believe if Bragg can play well offensively, this team can play and beat anybody. Of the numerous factors for this next year, he is the X factor. I was rewatching last years Big 12 tournament games against KSU and Baylor. If he has an open shoot, he is probably going to nail it.
@jaybate-1.0 like I said, I know it was just a scrimmage - not much defense being played. My point was more about potential in that 1. Udoka can make a back to the basket move and 2. Carlton has the ability to make a step back jumper - an NBA level move and I want to start seeing that in games. Glad you enjoyed it!
@drgnslayr Yes that is EJ and Releford! UA will make about anything look small lol
If you can take care of the pop ups and ads, first row sports.com is an option - they have games for all sports across the world. I don't use it anymore because I have the Cox sports tier, but it worked for me in the past.
I was watching some videos of scrimmages from this past summer and noticed that Carlton has some really nice moves - like next level moves. Here is a link to one of the videos
At 1:35, UA has a nice hook shot over Landon.
At 1:53, Carlton has a really nice step back jumper.
Yes, I know - these are not official games. But, it shows the higher level potential is there. To me, the most important aspect for success this year is Carlton. There is a big hole left by Perry and we need someone to fill it. Yes, he needs to do more inside, but, IMO, being able to spread the floor out to the three point line is more important. That opens up the lane for everyone else.
That step back move is something that Wiggins did and it is very hard to guard. I'm hoping he has also worked more on his handles to drive the lane like Perry, something that I have mentioned before. Perry was so difficult to guard because he could make threes and blow by defenders. I don't think Carlton has the same speed as Perry, but that doesn't mean he can't be effective in a similar manner. I hope coach encourages him to take open jumpers and doesn't insist on pounding the ball inside.
For UA to have meaningful minutes, he just needs to not do anything he is not capable of. Keep his hands up, don't reach and gamble for steals, get rebounds and make a few post moves. I have noticed he is prone to shuffling his feet when he gets the ball down low. He is so big that he doesn't need to try to do extra maneuvers - just collect the ball and go up with it. I'm sure Landon and the coaching staff are helping him with this.
@KUSTEVE nothing quite like the smell of a championship!!
@jayballer54 just ole Bruce's way of padding the W category
@KUSTEVE feels like waiting for Christmas morning. So excited!!
@kjayhawks there is a difference between being scolded/chewed out and physically assaulted - one I am fine with and the other crosses the line. Such actions remind me of ancient Sparta, which was brutal in how they raised their children with the intent to be warriors and fighters. I resent such anti-intellectual behavior that some coaches use/used as tactics - completely immature behavior. That's the rest of what I have to say about this matter.
@drgnslayr "It would be better to find alternatives to get results." Lol, yeah I'm sure there are better ways. Barbaric if you ask me.
Interesting that there is still nothing from Duke about it..
Man, I hope he is ok. An NBA scout said it looked like a stress fracture.
@Crimsonorblue22 well, all I know is Fred has been in his office and discussed the advantages of such a lineup.
If this is indeed true, it will be very beneficial this season. UConn in 2014 was very hard to guard because they put their max amount of mobility on the floor with Boatright, Napier, Samuel, Daniels and Giffey. That is a small lineup but very skilled and fast. Obviously, this is not something that Bill normally does, but I think Fred Hoiberg has opened his eyes to the possibility of what a small lineup could do. Only a week away fellas! (and ladies).
@Kcmatt7 I agree - Bill isn't going to make what would amount to a lateral move. Kevin Ollie is there to stay at UConn - Mike Brey has done a good job with low amounts of talent, not sure if he could get top talent to Duke though. Jeff Capel is the most realistic option.
@BeddieKU23 I think Virginia winds up being a four or five seed
@Crimsonorblue22 I agree - as much as I like Danny, he would be a complete gamble. I would want someone that has proven success, specifically in the tournament.
@jaybate-1.0 Danny is unproven as a head coach. Not sure how successful he would be.
In regards to replacing K and what Self is going to do long term, he has been contacted in the past by pro teams, and seems somewhat open to discussing the possibility of it. Something about Bill tells me he will not retire at KU unless, like you said, the university really, really, really steps up in order to keep him. If anything, I think he would go to the NBA rather than Duke or another blue blood.
How would everyone feel about Jay Wright as a replacement for Self? I know, I know, we just lost to him and some don't like his attitude. But, he has had the same amount of tournament success as Self, several thirty win seasons, has a ring, and is the only coach in Villanova history with multiple final fours. I would be open to him, as well as Tony Bennet and Brad Stevens.
@Lulufulu its kind of fun to think about healthy Joel vs. the four seven footers from UK a couple of years ago when they beat us by 30. We may not win that game, but I think we would only lose by seven or so. Joel would neutralize UK's inside game, and they would have a really tough time stopping him.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree - there is no equal replacement for K. If I was hiring someone for Duke, I would go after Brad Stevens. The guy took barely known players to back to back championship games. Very impressive. Jeff Capel did ok at OU, but he is not what I would consider elite.
@KUSTEVE With Brooks healthy, I think they will for sure be a one seed.
BTW, the Maui Invitational is going to be great this year. Wisconsin, Oregon and UNC. Can't wait to see it!
