@jaybate-1.0 Yes they are, he has turned that program around in a few years. That is definitely someone I wouldn't mind seeing strolling up and down courtside in the Phog should HCBS decide to hang up the suit anytime soon.
@Crimsonorblue22 I read in an article that he was yelling turn up to Frank and that's what they got him for but knowing how, we'll go with passionate he is, the use of that phrase wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. From the way he talked about wanting to live up to great names of the past he probably knows how intense the rivalry has been with OSU lately and wanted to leave his mark on it. Little too far though since he got the T lol
@JayHawkFanToo man I miss me some stank face Withey!
@mdm7eb my best mans' girlfriend went to UVa for undergrad and they both with to the U (Miami) for law school, so I have actually watched a lot of ACC basketball this year and they are the real deal. They look downright lethal at times. They got a little cushion in the ACC race last night by Dook getting knocked off.
Thank you! We actually ended up on a boat when we were headed out to our dive spot with another couple from KC who almost cancelled their trip because of the Royals, crazy the little coincidences that happen in life sometimes.
@Crimsonorblue22 I did indeed! Got married and almost cancelled my honeymoon so we didn't miss the parade if the Royals won the world series. I made an executive decision and decide I quite like my boys to be attached to my body and thus made the decision to go on the trip anyways. In hindsight it worked out for me I watched Game 7 from a bar beach side on South Beach and got to drink and party down there instead of wallow in pity here! Hope all is well with you!
@JhawkAlum That was my exact thing. But that could just be the crimson and blue colored glasses. I would prefer to play 15 mins per game at a perennial power and THE greatest place to play college basketball over playing 25 mins at a smaller lesser known school. The name recognition alone playing for KU would have done wonders after graduation.
@RockChalkinTexas hahahah I"M BACCCCCCKKKKKKK my friend. I'll be more proactive with posting. Nice to know I was missed!
The people who think we will run roughshod through the Big 12 based on two games are in denial. I took a scrappy effort to get past Baylor and Tech is well, Tech. I do believe if we can go 3-1 over this rough stretch of the next 4 games we will be in pretty good shape. With the way the league will beat up on each other this year the winner could have 5 or 6 losses. I think We end up with 4 or 5 though. Forget the stats and metrics that have us ranked in the bottom half of the Big 12. The other teams played cupcake schedules and we have something that no other team has. We have grit and determination. We are finally starting to develop a will kill mentality that's been lacking since Tyshawn, Withey, Rele, etc left. Mari is going to be huge for us I have a feeling and if him and Cliff can get going together we will go along way with Graham and Mason controlling the game.
I'm guilty of lurking. If you define lurking as looking but not posting. I always love to read the comments and takes on issues on here. I need to make an effort to post more
@jaybate-1.0 I love the predator stalking his prey analogy. Great post and insight as always!
According to rumors that are floating around and who knows how much validity they have, the fight Mari was trying to break up involved Cliff. It's been talked about on Jayhawk Slant. There may be nothing to it, but somehow it doesn't surprise me.
@REHawk Well said my friend!
@JRyman Keys to victory!! However we seem to be up and down at the FT line. I can't remember a recent KU team shooting as bad from the line as we have been lately. Mari got a huge confidence boost though after HCBS left him in and he sank those 2 clutch FTs to help close out the MSU game.
@Crimsonorblue22 I always try to spread the good word!
@wissoxfan83 Hopefully I won't be sent to Babylon, it's her one flaw and it's pretty major but it's slowly but surely fading away. She doesn't watch games, know players names, or ever even go to CoMo unless we make a White Castle run, and then we are outta there!
@HighEliteMajor hahah not yet just a deroratory name for the cess pool that is Missouri. And we won't be moving soon we actually just bought a house by Worlds of Fun. So much cheaper than Johnson County for a lot more house.
@Crimsonorblue22 Thank you! and she goes to games, i've caught her cheering a couple times even though she's a MU fan. She try's to act like she's not making the change but she is. She even wears KU gear that I bought her on non game days. She still wears some MU things but i've never gone to a game with her and never will unless we somehow end up playing them again. One of her friends who's from Columbia asked if I wore MU shirts since she wears my teams shirts, I responded with an emphatic hell no i'm not a blood traitor. RCJH! she will just have to come along for the ride lol
@Crimsonorblue22 Nope! My life isn't over yet lol. I have about a month and a half left ha! September 27th is the day
I'm all in on Mari this year. When we played the game against Eastern Kentucky during the tournament I saw his massive potential for this year. I was so happy for him to have that game and knew that was his coming out party. He's a hungry kid and his hunger will push Perry and make this whol team better. Having a couple new kids with chips and swag (KO and Big Cliff) certainly doesn't hurt either. If he can stay away fromt he dumb fouls we will go far. KY was one of my favorite players because of the energy and hustle he broguht to the team off the bench. We don't need Mari to be a starter, he can come off the bench and bring that same enrgy and intensity but with more athletcism and power than KY did. I think heis going to have a monster year.
@globaljaybird thanks for the heads up! I'll have to try and get out there.
@Crimsonorblue22 Class act all around. He was easily my favorite player on the team last year and it's not even close!
@jaybate 1.0 Well said sir!
@drgnslayr I have never seen him in person but i've always enjoyed watching him. I'll be down in Miami for my honeymoon in the fall so hopefully they will be playing at home and he will still be on the roster. I want get that experience that you had.
@drgnslayr I totally agree with your point about Riley, they pulled off an impossible feat getting everyone on the same page and then made sure the right "little guys" were in place to give it that extra push. I lvoe the way Birdman plays and of course Ray Allen has always been a scorer, best pure jump shot ever hands down.
@Crimsonorblue22 The thing with LBJ , I think was a little blown out of proportion. All of the big 3 at points would yell at Rio or get in his grill during a game but there was an interview with LBJ and they talked aobut how they loved himand were toughening him up. LBJ said he was like the little brother.
@icthawkfan316 Well said, I don't think he should leave either. I mean sure more money would be nice we could all use more money. But a true competitor wants the chance to win. Where else offers him the chance to win like he has now? and not only that but as you said he's only asked to not be a liability not to be a playmaker or dime dropper. He came up clutch last year down the stretch in the series with the Spurs but he was ready for that. I think he has a really good situation going down there he has a chance for 3 or 4 more rings probably which would put him up there with some big dogs.
The Old site posed the question and it's something I've actually been thinking about for a little while, if you're Chalmers do you chase the championships still having the big 3 or do you leave for a few million more per year?
@drgnslayr Truer words have never been spoken my friend
@drgnslayr That was one of my favorite movies as a kid, well done!
I was born in Philadelphia and moved to KC so my mom could be with her father that was ill. My parents weren't big into sprots so I never really watched them until I got to grade school adn then everything changed. My best friend in Kindergarten was a huge Jayhawk fan as his dad was an alumus. The first game his dad took us to was the second part of kindergarten year, I can't remember the team we played but I do remember it was Paul Pierces Freshman year and thinking I wanted to be like him. Ever since then i've been hooked on the Jayhawks. I didn't go to KU like I wanted to ( I grew up on the MO side and didn't want to payout of state tuition.) I settled for being a Roo. But my love for the Jayhawks has never wavered. Half of my wardrobe is KU gear, I travel all around the country to see them. Hell I even have gotten my Slaver(MU) fiancee to go to the Fieldhosue and around the country with me. She is slowly comnig around and wiping the filth and haze from her eyes. Even caught her singing the slow chant at a couple games(though she denies it). I go to a few games a year when I can and plan family and social events around the games. RCJH always and forever.
@JayHawkFanToo Paul is one of my all time favorite Hawks, I used to watch the Celtics games jsut because he played for them. My first KU game was his freshman year and I've been a fan of his and KU ever since! That's an awesome accomplishment for a great player and person.
@wissoxfan83 I don't know if anyone else has said it but, Na also came up clutch in the last few mins of the OU game to clinch a share of the title. He backed up his solid defensive effort against UT two days earlier with that stellar closeout performance against OU
@drgnslayr I laughed at your comment about as much as I laguhed at the video. Thanks for posting the link @JRyman
@drgnslayr What wouldn't be half bad either is the kids who are just looking for a one year layover before the real league is letting kids out of high school going staight to the D-League to develop and the ones that don't go that route have to stay in school for a few years. What do you think about the whole union thing?
@JayHawkFanToo I completely agreee, baseball has the best system as far as this goes even allowing them to get drafted to see where they go and if they don't sign they can go to college still.
@JRyman Thanks for posting that link. The picture is awesome and def gets the point across to a new fan base.
@Crimsonorblue22 I think it's a huge feather in Self's cap! I mean JoJo was ranked around 100 or so when he found him? And then he had a metoric rise. That's huge for Self and further acknowledges our nicknameof Big Man U, which is unfortunately why I think we aren't getting elite PG's. They know what our reputation is. I mean outside of Chalmers what HCBS has gone on to do big things in the league?
@HighEliteMajor Thank you! I do what I can. She was a big Mizery fan when we met but she's toned it down a lot, i think the only reasons she still wears their colors is to annoy me. She's gone to STl with me for the Elite 8. She went to Dallas with me last year for the Sweet 16, but you know what she's never done? Actually gone to any type of MU game. She is a fan by default because she grew u in MO and her dad was one.
I love Wiggs and JoJo, I wish they would have stuck around longer but I understand why they are going. They could both use another year to get better before going up agaisnt the men in the league. Hopefully the new commish gets his way and there will be a 2 or 3 year rule in place in 2017. That would make both products better.
I get it but don't get it why JoJo would leave right now. He's gotta get the paycheck but he coudln'th andle being thrown around by Ridley and suddleny he's going to take punishment from grown men every other night? 82 games that's a long season and he coudln't even make it through 30 this year. Just food for though but I wish him well and hope he does find a way to succeed at the next level.
@nuleafjhawk Awesome story!!! My fiancee who for whatever reason is a mizzery fan (yes i know, What the hell is wrong with me?) but she is a good sport and goes to KU games all over the country with me. The first time I took her to AFH she talked about how awesome it was. I even caught her singing the slow chant at the end of the game. Slowly I'm coverting her. I even convinced her to take our engagement pictures on campus!
@crimsonorblue22 accidentally psoted that one under an account I created when the site first opened that I forgot about.
@justanotherfan awesome find! I love seeing our players do good things outside of basketball.
@JayhawkRock78 That bothers me too when people say they don't count and I normally Kensucky fans
@globaljaybird thanks for the laugh and the sage advice!! I will make sure I employ it the right way. I've still got a ways to go before I can start saying it though. If I said it to younger girls now it would just be awkward for all parties involved.
@drgnslayr I'm on the bandwagon. Out of all the teams left they are the only one I can stomach winning it.
@globaljaybird "My reply was this..."Well, I may be old ma'am, but I ain't blind." Trust me, that line get's a blush or a smile every time."
I'm going to have to steal that line down the road, well played sir.
@konkeyDong Well played, I enjoyed his sideline dances as much as the next guy but he wasn't good for the locker room.
@Crimsonorblue22 haaahah I do wonder what if I had gone??? You know the butterfly effect and all.
@Crimsonorblue22 I did!! I didn't see it in the story itself, I went back through after you mentinoed it and I saw down below were a poster made a simliar observation about WIlt and his guilt about "letting us down".
That was an awseome article, i'm as guilty as anyone of being to critical of Andrew in first couple hours after the game. But the truth is, is that Andrew gave so much to his team. He shouldn't be remember for his final game and he shouldn't have to carry around that weight. I wasn't around for it but it reminds me of what I heard about how Wilt felt when we didn't win the championship that he thought he alone let everyone down. He carried that for awhile and thought Kansas didn't still love him for many years. Andrew was awesome not only for this years team but future teams. He helped on the court as much as off the court from a recruiting stand point. Yea he only had 4 points but I beleive he wanted it with everything he had but he didn't have the experience to figure out how to beat what they were throwing at him. I don't blame Andrew for the loss. It was a team effort. He didn't miss all those bunnies and layups, he didn't kepe Tharpe int he game with Conner was clearly the better option. He had his faults in the game but so did every other player save for Tarik. Yes he fouled out but we all know at least 2 were crap calls.
@Crimsonorblue22 thanks for thinking of me! I actually ddin't make it to STL this weekend. I had that wedding Saturday and a surpise 50th birthday party for my mom and then forgot I told a couple frineds I would go to a place called Manifesto with them (it's a little lounge set in a speakeasy type setting), by the time Sunday morning came around I was too wiped to make the drive from KC. Kinda glad I saved my money. Being down in Dallas hurt enough last year no need to add insult to injury with an early exit this year ha!
