No question Lucas outplayed Adebayo. We still really don't quite appreciate how important Lucas is to this team and how quietly solid his game has been.
Well...no. Adebayo averages 13.9 and 6.9 and he was 10 and 8 against KU so not that far below his average. Mitrou-Long averages 15.3 ppg but had only 4 against Vanderbilt...remember he had 18 against KU and Jarrett Allen averages 12.8 and 8.4 but had only 4 and 5 against Georgia...remember he had 22 and 19 against KU. Both Mitrou-Long and Allen stats were well below their season averages.
I did post before that the biggest loser for the game was Adebayo who was supposed to dominate a game tailored for him and yet managed to play just below his season average.
Are you talking about the OJ Mayo deal? They did get heavily penalized for that. I don't seem to recall any coach-son deal at USC.
Good to hear it went well...
Allegedly happened in 2015? Someone needs to have the "you just don't hit girls" talk with every freshman player when they get to KU...
If the Porter kid follows his father one more time, the NCAA would be all over that...
While we did not end up getting much ice here, if I understand correctly, they had ice in Oklahoma.
The latest Bracketology (today) has 7 conference teams in and Texas Tech. is in the "First 4 out" group...so almost 8 teams in...
As disappointing as last weekend was for the conference it is not weak as it appears. If Jarrett Allen has not a good but just an average game Texas wins going away; he only had 4 points. If Mitrou-Long has not a good but just an average game ISU wins going away; he only had 4 points.
Let's face it. On a given day, any team in the top 10 can beat any other team in the top 10...heck, you can even extend it to the top 20...
...on the other hand, after watching OU get punked at home by Florida, he might have ruled them out...
When you make what he makes you learn to deal with it...I know I would...
Coach Self just finished his press conference, Bragg is not playing against Baylor and no decision has been made after that.
Interesting...just about every female I know that follows tennis seems to like Nadal; men, on the other hand, favor Federer...I like a Maria Sharapova. π
If other coaches are bad mouthing KU I know who would be my first guess, he coaches in the big 12 and has a reputation for doing just this.
Let's face it, if this happens at South Sucothash School of Mines, it does not even make the local paper, but at an elite program such as KU, even the appearance of impropriety gets amplified, becomes national news and gives the program a gigantic black eye.
Don't you think that Trae Young's mom hasn't gotten texts and phone calls commenting on the "drug issue" at KU? Even if nothing comes out of it, the damage has already been done and will be discussed on all sports shows for days to come...we still hear about his previous arrest even when he was cleared.
Let's NOT
After the previous incident, regardless of guilt or innocence, you would think he was told he would be under a microscope going forward. I am sorry but this kid needs serious help, he seems to have the need to push the envelope. I will guess that one way or another he is gone after this season.
Rupp is considered one of the top 3-5 hardest arenas to play in the country. WVU is not in that league but. much like KSU, it sure gets loud and obnoxious when they play KU.
They had Michael Buffer announce Kentuckyβs lineup only, a tacky and disrespectful "dick" move. Prior to the game they had the people from the Guinness Book of World Records and apparently they set a new record for loudness that we will have to take back in the near future, KU also set a record for turning the loudest arena into the quietest in 40 minutes.
Oregon lost to Colorado yesterday so from the PAC 12, Arizona is in the best shape to get the top seed., BTW, I believe the NCAA moved all the games from North Carolina, so no games in their backyard (Greensboro) for North Carolina ACC teams.. β
Don't forget Embiid. He recently tweeted that coming to KU was the best decision he made his entire life...that is one gigantic endorsement from the fella that is going to dominate the NBA for years to come.
Be careful with what you wish. The way KU games have been called lately we probably end up at the wrong end of the 24-3...
This is a problem with program that depend on OADs. I have heard and read post from UK fans in sports forums where they complain that they do not get a chance to really get to know the players and become fans because they are there one minute and gone the next.
Compare this to the fan experience we have at KU where we have seen most of the players grow from immature and tentative freshmen to confident and dependable juniors and seniors. Yes, we have had some that stay a year or two but the core of the programs stays longer and we have a long term emotional investment on the team since we have been through every setback and injury and cold spell and family crisis right along with them, and we have gotten to know them not only for what they on the court but off the court as well.Think about it, if most of our players were OADs, we might leave early as well.
Many of the top team are starting to settle on a 7 man rotation. UK played pretty much 7players, Nova played only 7 today and Virginia 8 and Duke plays mostly 7 players. Of course, teams like West Virginia with the press will continue playing lot more players because of the physical demand of their scheme.
Don't worry, our AD is so upset with the coverage that he is going to black out a few more games so the press knows he can do the "no coverage" thing better than they can...I wish it would be fiction...π
I agree, KU gets little respect from the media. Vegas opened at 5-1/2 and was up to 7 for UK and considering all the bad publicity and the shortness of our bench due to Bragg's suspension, it was perhaps warranted.
Now here is the kicker...Pomeroy has UK ranked #3 and KU #7 after last night's game. Considering that UK, prior to the game had lost to #39 Tennessee and is now 17-4 while KU had lost to #5 West Virginia and is now 19-2, both according to Pomeroy himself, and then UK lost to KU...at home...it does not make any sense for UK to be ranked ahead of KU, particularly when you consider that KU plays in the highest ranked conference.
After the West Virginia game many of us saw it as a minor and anticipated set back which to me shows respect for the players and coaches and trust on the team but others did not see it the same way. When KU gets trashed by its own fans how can we expect people that are not as familiar with the program to show respect? Any sports writer reading our own forum prior to the Kentucky game would have seen comments like... this teams is soft, has no heart, cannot play defense, will lose in the first round, would be lucky to get a 3 or 4 seed and so on.
It would appear that for some fans their preferred form of exercise is jumping on and off the band wagon. I know there is a lot of crow eating today but it should not get to this point and it shoul not be this way. Just my personal opinion.
I doubt if UK wants her anywhere near the arena...Kentucky is a fairly conservative state and she is a "Nasty" girl.
Wilt was a very poor FT shooter so I imagine his 3 gun would have been non existent. Having said that, when you dominate inside the way he did, why would he need the 3 anyway...
I though it would be a close, high scoring game that would go down to the las possession ant he last team to score would win...I was right on the last part.π
I hear it goes great with humble pie...π
Day Tripper got into another fight today...dude needs help.
Can anyone think of a better starting 5? KU certainly made a powerful statement today...
Biggest winner probably Josh Jackson, considering how much the announcers were raving about him. Biggest loser, Adebayo, he was supposed to dominate inside and be the biggest factor...not even close.
3... are you joking.? Most of the stories I read today are calling for 7 or even 8 teams. There is no way the conference sends less than 6 and 7 is the more likely number.
With the new zone D, KU opponents have a whole new set of things to worry...
Th ESPN graph had it 5-4 Big 12 pending outcome of the KU-UK game...
Not only a great win but also gave the conference the series win.
I keep telling you guys...trust thy Self...
Anyone that still thinks this team has no heart...please delete you account and leave.
Most satisfying win in a long time.
he allowed Perry to step out and shoot jumpers all four years
Really?
Perry Ellis 3 Point attempts:
- Freshman - 2
- Sophomore - 8
- Junior - 18
- Senior. - 28
In his senior year he had the same number of 3 point attempts as in the previous 3 years...combined...
Coach Self has compared him to a more athletic Perry Ellis. Because of need, Perry played the 4 until his senior year when Coach Self belatedly acknowledged and he was allowed to play SF, step outside and hit the 3...guess what position Perry is playing in the D League?
Do you realize that Lightfoot is the same height and only 3 pounds heavier than JJ who is listed as a guard? KU official roster does not differentiate between PGs and SGs and they are all listed as G; likewise, it does not differentiate between SF and PF and they are all listed as F.
Do you honestly think that Lightfoot has the build or skill set to play PF? I don't think so; I believe he is more of a natural SF. Do you realize that if Lucas fouls out and Coleby is unable to play Lightfoot might be playing Center? Is he qualified to pay Center? Obviously not, but there does not seem to be other options, right?
Dodo bird?
Weber is a strange bird...
What part of my previous post don't you understand? KU has several players that can play the wing/SF; the only available players that can play PF are Lightfoot and maybe JJ...why do you think KU has been playing the 4-1 scheme instead of Coach Self's preferred 3-2? again SMH...
He is smaller that Perry Ellis who really was a SF and much like Lightfoot was pressed into playing PF. Again, read the scouting reports before you post incorrect information.
OU getting punked at home...
You understand that he really is a SF that by attrition is playing PF and you expect him to match up with true Centers? SMH.
You obviously don't know much about Lightfoot. Read this article for starters βand particularly the part about "elite athleticism" not by one but by several well know analysts...
A snippet from game day β about the challenge...
Vitale and soon-to-be-retired Musburger doing the Oklahoma-Florida game...that is right up there with Fran in the can't-listen-to-it-anymore scale
