Chris Paul is good, very good but he does not even break into the top 5...unless they count flopping as part of the criteria. Maybe he is top 10.
I fully agree with your assessment. True journalists are now the exception when once they were the rule, this why most people now take the news with a grain of salt knowing that sensationalism and sound bites have taken the place of actual reporting. Our last election cycle and ensuing coverage showed and continues to show how low journalism has sunk...at least it did to me.
Corporate agendas rule the content of the news cycle and individual reports either toe the line or find themselves out of a job. Of all people, Jay Bilas had a very good summary of the KU issues during Game Day separating fact from fiction and making sure to point out that the individual issues are not related. The KC Star reporters should watch the video and learn how it should be done.
Here is some trivia that not too many people know about Vitale. I believe he is the only individual to coach HS, Division I college and the NBA.
NICE!!! Interesting to see how easily Perry is elevating and dunking.
Thanks. We all need from time to time to sit back and look at the entire picture rather than look at it through the narrow opening of our own biases.
Thank you. Finally we have some real information. with your first hand information, now we know the team did not get to the dorm until close to 11:00 PM or well after the incident was reported. Why reporters did not bother do do this simple check is beyond me...probably creating alternate facts.
By continually bringing it up you are encouraging the feeding frenzy...obviously you don't see it.
The timeline for the McCarthy incident would appear to indicate that there us no way KU players could have been there by 10:00 PM as I posted in detail when the story broke. The Davidson game was scheduled to start at 6:05 PM and I seem to recall it being about average duration, or app. 2 hours. By the time they showered and did the after game interviews and got ready to leave it would have been not any earlier than 9:00 PM and perhaps as late as 9:30 PM.
A quick search for direction indicates a travel time of app. 50 minutes between the Sprint Center and AFH which is next to McCarthy. Anyone living the the KC area knows that at 8:00 PM a the Power and Light District, where the print Center is located, is a nut house, particularly after a KU game and it would have taken at least 15 minutes just to dive out of the area. Also, For a 6:00 PM game, the team probably had a late lunch and ate dinner after the game which would add at least another 2 hours. So, best case, the team does not get back to their dorm until 10:30 PM and close to midnight if the stopped for dinner, The call came in at 10:00 PM which would indicate the incident took place before that and while the players where heading back to but not at the dorm. Most likely scenario is that as they were walking to the building in groups from the bus, they saw somebody leave the building. Any thing beyond that is just [pushing the limits of reality. There is no reason for a responsible journalist to continue to bring this incident in any reporting about the KU program, any more that the false arrest of Bragg, other that to imply guilt by association even they write a disingenuous disclaimer. The fact that they even mention these events is wrong...in my opinion.
If the same chick is involved in all these incidents that would be a major consideration. I have dated my share of crazy women but, if this is the same woman in all the incidents, this one takes the cake since single handedly would have created a virtual crime wave in Lawrence.
There is no question that the KC Start does not like KU, ever since Joe Posnanski left the paper in 2009 the paper has not had a single sports writer of his stature or substance.
KU vs SEC in Basketball this season: 2-0
MU vs SEC in Basketball this season: 0-9
It probably is a sore point for the Star that MU, the flagship state institutio0n, is basically circling the drain, not only the sports program,s are in full disarray but the reputation of the school has taken a brutal hit in the last few years, including 3,000 student deciding to enroll elsewhere creating a $30M deficit and causing dorms to be closed, in a time where comparable schoo,l such as KU, have their dorms above capacity and P\programs such as the KU Medical Center getting national recognition while the MU Medical School falls behind, so they take their frustration on KU.

Coach Self indicated in a previous presser that there are 40 "beds" at McCarthy and only 16 are taken by basketball players; this would be below the NCAA 50% threshold.
Here is a thought...maybe you stop bringing it up?
I believe it has already happened in ice hockey...
I personally think they would be in a pickle...
OK...if the two on-line identities are vegans and get into an argument...do they have a beef?
This is where my comments came from. It is obvious that his hands are tied and he is very frustrated that he cannot defend his player. When he reads a prepared statement you know the attorneys don't want hm, to stray one hair to where he can get into potential and personal liability. No question he looks very frustrated.
So, you think an immature college student smoking pot...in private is worse than making a mockery of college basketball...on National TV?
The time Bragg was arrested was for the wrong reasons and charges were dropped, This last time, I don't believe he was arrested, he was simply charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Day Tripper's misdeeds were on the court and during Nationally televised games for the whole world to see...basically a gigantic middle finger to the entire sport and fans.
I am with you. I have seen my share of badly refereed games in my lifetime and the WVU game is right up there near or at the top.
I will guess that Vick and his GF had a fight that escalated and became physical and called Campus Police was called. Had there been visible injuries, the City of Lawrence would have been called since this type of crime is now taken very seriously (remember Bragg?). The dispute went to a University Board that used a low level of proof (preponderance of the evidence) and I will guess both parties were given a reprimand and some additional probation might have been recommended or counseling. I am certain that under the circumstances, the DA would have declined to charge/prosecute since at the higher level of proof (beyond a reasonable doubt) it would have been very difficult to get a conviction on a he said/she said case.
I am thinking that Coach Self knows what happened but because of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) he cannot say it and it is obvious that he appears be frustrated by it. If the incident was a serious as the leaks portray it to be, I don't see any circumstances under which Coach Self would have kept Vick on the team.
Wooden got 7 of them, The streak was achieved while in 3 different conferences and under 3 different coaches. Offcially, Coahc Self already has the record as a coach with 12 and Mark Few is second with 11. Here is a breakdown on the UCLA run...
- Conference(s): Athletic Association of Western Universities, Pac-8, Pac-10
- Years: 1967-79
- Record: 360-30 (171-15 in conference)
- Coaches: John Wooden, Gene Bartow, Gary Cunningham
- AP first-team All-Americans: Kareem Abdul-Jabaar (1967, 1968, 1969), Sidney Wicks, Jamaal Wilkes, Bill Walton (1972, 1973, 1974), Dave Meyers, Marques Johnson and Dave Greenwood (1978, 1979).
UCLA's talent during that run was head and shoulders above everybody else. Coach Self had to replace entire starting lineups and beat powerful teams that include the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge, D.J.Augustine, Damion James, Kevin Durant, Tristan Thompson, PJ Tucker, Buddy Hield, Blake Griffin. Michael Beasley, Bill Walker just to name a few...
I respectfully disagree. Teams need to be just 1 point better than KU to win at AFH. The advantage of home court is many time greatly exaggerated; most predicting system and Vegas assign only 2-3 point advantage to home court. The Vegas line opened at 5 and I believe it went up to 6, Sagarin's line was 3.8 points; KU won by 5.
Good teams do not get rattled by noise venues. KU went to Rupp, was down by 5 at the half and won the game. Against Baylor, KU was down 6 at the half and also won the game. Good team don't need luck...they make their own luck.
Baylor junior forward Johnathan Motley
On if the noise had any effect on their game:
"Not really, no."
Like I said, good teams and good players don't get rattled at away games. Just my opinion.
Is it just me? This win seems more satisfying than the win over UK...
That last tweet from Fran you posted is downright offensive and implies a pre-arranged outcome and that officials are helping KU win at AFH. I had to go to tweeter to make sure the quotes around "supposed to win" were his and not added by you for emphasis...and they are indeed Fran's. KU's AD should demand a retraction and an apology from Fraschilla and request that ESPN no longer assigns him to cover KU games...no chance of that happening; Zenger's answer will likely be to black out every KU game Fraschilla announces. SMH.
Several articles about KU and all follow the same narrative of assuming guilt, lumping all the events as one gigantic event and implying a conspiracy to cover the facts. No doubt it is following an agenda to discredit KU instead of reporting on dumpster fire which is MU not only with its sports program in a free fall but the university itself circling the drain.
Is any one else wondering why the paraphernalia was not found until 4 days after the date of the original incident?
I am going to go out on a limb and guess that whoever they arrested for the alleged rape told the police/DA...if you cut me a deal I can give you a KU player that has drugs in his room...
Big difference in rebounding between the halves. Baylor with a lot more rebounds in the first half bu KU ended up with more for the game.
Also, before we anoint Drew a good coach, keep in kind that he hired a new assistant to work with the bigs and this is why they are playing well and he might be also calling the game early and then Drew takes over and screws it up.
Earlier they showed where they took the front line from Baylor (3 players) had them spread their arms touching at the finger tip and measured 21 feet and 8 inches or an average of over 7 feet...that is one tall line with a huge wingspan.
By definition the term conspiracy applies only when more than one individual act together towards an illegal end. If you are acting towards a legal end then it is not a conspiracy...you agree to go to the movies, you team up...you plan...you schedule...you decide...but you don't conspire...unless he individuals are minors and plan to sneak In to watch an X-rated movie...which is illegal. Using conspiracy when the end is legal is done frequently but still a misuse of the word.
I believe this is exactly what happened. It is in the best interest of all concerned to get this issue out of the way as soon as possible.
I imagine Hoiberg might get another HC shot in the NBA but, if he comes back to college, it is likely for good...much like Pitino and Calipari.
Isn't a conspiracy by definition illegal? I am not sure you can have a "legal conspiracy"...if it is legal it is not a conspiracy, right?
I don't believe Hoiberg left ISU in bad terms; it would be crazy to hold it against him wanting to coach in the NBA. If he leaves Chicago, I don't see any reason why he could not come back to ISU...other than what to do with the existing coach...
Calipari went to the NBA, bombed big time and came back to college and there is no arguing that he is very successful and Hoiberg is a much better coach than the squid. Pitino also went to the NBA and came back to college and maybe Brad Stevens will someday leave the NBA and come to coach at KU when Coach Self retires. There is no such thing as bad NBA baggage, prospects like a coach with NBA experience.
This is why I had those games with low percentages, The toughest game might be at Baylor, depending ion the outcome of tonight's game. If we play like WVU did and run them off the court, the Waco game might be much easier; however, if the game is close or they win, the game in Waco will be a b*tc since it would most likely determine the League's champion.
Agreed. Looks like the 15 minutes of fame for ISU are over.
No question that the winner of this game is in the driver's seat in relation to the conference title. I had hoped that ISU could beat WVU and set them back some but looks like Huggy will stay in the chase for the time being. You absolutely have to hold at home, beat the bottom half teams and steal a win or two from the top half teams on the road.
These are what I believe to be the critical games coming up and the chance of winning them:
- Baylor 60%
- At KSU 50%
- WVU 55%
- At Baylor 40%
- At OSU 55%
I believe the toughest game will be agains WVU. The KSU can be a very close game, give how much KSU gets up for KU or KU might win it comfortably. We will know soon how well KU matches against Baylor and it will probably dictate how the game plays in Waco. I threw OSU in the mix because they seem to play KU tough at home and being the last game of the regular season might have a huge bearing on the final standings. Holding at home against Baylor and WVU are by far the most important games.
When I was growing up we did not have a choice; we had to eat everything that was on the plate and we were happy for every meager bite of it. My own kids did not have to go through this.
Let me preface by saying that I have never smoked pot or done any other drug even when I attended college in the 70s when it was very accessible and you were almost shunned if you did not smoke pot. I did get almost high a couple of time from second hand smoke at the old Kemper arena while attending concerts.
I do understand that under certain conditions, pot can help with pain management and it work by dulling the senses, which could be a desirable thing if you have a terminal condition with a lot of pain but definitely not a good thing if you are doing work that requires full awareness. This is the reason why employers require employees to be drug free, one insurance claim for a company that does not have this policy can make that firm un-insurable. One firm I worked for had a program that drug tested employees at random; if your name was selected, you had 2 hours to get to an approved testing facility. One time when one of my engineers was on his way out of town on company business, the insurance company had a lab tech. waiting for him at the airport in Memphis. This is the way the real world works and if you don't agree with this type of testing, you have the option of seeking work elsewhere...it is really that simple.
More to the point, I saw one time a discussion panel with pot advocated and medical doctors. The pot advocates indicated that pot was the only feasible solution to many conditions and the doctors unanimously stated that there were drugs available that were considerably more effective than pot for most conditions and a lot of the so called medicinal uses are just excuses to smoke pot.
I really don't have an issue if someone wants to smoke pot as long as that usage does not place my well being at risk, say, by driving while under the numbing effects of pot. I have seen first hand way too many people ruin their lives by pot addiction and even more so, by graduating to heavier drugs when pot was not enough. Now, as long as the laws of a state dictate that use of pot/drugs is not allowed, them you need to obey the law, work towards changing it or move to another state...your choice...but as long as the law is the law, we must all respect it and be willing to live with consequences if we don't.
Coach Self indicated in his presser that the staff is constantly reminding students about rules, regulations and the law, so it is safe to assume that Bragg knew he was breaking the law and by doing so, he placed not only himself and his future in a bad spot but the program as well. Unfortunately, we seem to be living in a place and time where personal responsibility is no longer the law of the land and individuals now expect someone else to do the hard work to pay for their needs with no effort on their part...free tuition, free cell phones, free cars, free house,, free everything seems to be the new entitlement and most of us that work hard for a living seem to be ones paying for it..
This is my rant for the day, no offense intended to anyone.
Gee,,,you should have seen us engineers...
Apparently the sign was brought in by students not the University as retweeted by Trae Young...
Did you see the broadcast he did with Vitale of the OU-Florida game? Vitale had his arm on Masburger's shoulder just about the entire game and they were constantly holding each others arms; I think at the end of the game Vitale kissed Masburger...weird does not even begin to describe the broadcast.
The more I talk to fans of other elite programs, the more I realize they are all pretty much the same and have the same issues...KU is not that different than most any other program, it simply is a bigger and easier target and has a lot more visibility.
Ok, that makes more sense. No sanctions yet because UNC has put a full court defense that has tied up the NCAA with legal paperwork. I am guessing that given Coach Williams health, he is not that far away from retirement and the school is hoping for one more NC before he retires and the program goes down the crapper because of the effect of the likely sanctions and the new coaching staff; a cosch like Roy Williams is not easy to replace...not many Bill Selfs around...
They were both shooting very poorly, perhaps this is the reason they took less shots than they usually do. Long was 0-5 from 3 and Allen was 2-7 from the floor...and missed the shot that could have sent the game to OT. Sometimes players are in the zone and can't miss and sometimes they cannot hit the broad side of a barn...Allen and Long had poor games at the wrong time.
Thank you for being the voice of reason. There are several separate issues that by themselves are relatively small but when you start adding them up a faint pattern appears to emerge. Having visited with friends that are basketball fans, happen to live in various parts of the country and follow different team, I got the impression that KU is not an abnormal situation but rather the norm of what goes on at other programs and it is an extension of what happens with college students at large. The only difference is that some programs are better at keeping the issues under wraps and some are more successful, or as a cynic with say...have more experience dealing with this type of issues. Elite programs such as KU are under a microscope and every event is multiplied many fold and makes the national news.
As @Crimsonorblue22 mentioned, there seems to be a link between the Bragg and Vick incidents. At the time of the Bragg fiasco, it was mentioned that Vick apparently had an issue with the same woman...one of those things that makes you go hmmm...
I mentioned before that some women are attracted to sports stars and basically stalk them. I mentioned before a former Chiefs player whose girlfriend started to hit him he simple extended his arms to protect himself, she bumped against his hands and fell down; he was arrested and then charges dropped once the facts came to light. A few days later (you have got to question his judgment) when he was at her house she started to become abusive, he left the house and locked himself in his car and she started kicking his car, slipped on the ice and fell down...again, he was arrested and released...luckily he was able to afford a very good attorney. It happens. It has happened ever since Eve tricked Adam and Delilah destroyed Sampson and will continue happening as long as there are men and women. In all fairness, sometimes it works the other way as well.
Is it really that far fetched that the same girl is involved in all these incidents? Given the available information, and I will admit is thin, but it does not really sound that far fetched....the "nutso" lineage seems to be there, if you know what I mean.
Another item that needs to be consider in the Vick case is that it look like the issue was agreed by both parties to go to an in-house committee rather than filing a police report. The committee used the much lower "preponderance of evidence" threshold of proof rather than the more customary "beyond a reasonable doubt" threshold to reach a decision. Now, anyone of you that pays tuition for your kid and feels that you should be able to see his/her grades, you know that because of the privacy act you cannot. Likewise in this case, because of the privacy act, it is possible that the Athletic Department was not able to see the details of the investigation. One would think that Coach self would have some leverage, but in our current legal system he could have incurred some legal liability if he tried to use the leverage to learn about information protected by the privacy act. Perhaps @mayjay or any of the lawyers on the forum can chime in.
Snacks situation is a little more complicated. We all agree that he screwed up big, big time and the question is what should the punishment have been? Keep in mind that Snacks has been known to Coach Self ever since he played under him at Illinois and he knows better than all of us his character and the risk he took giving him a second chance. Anyone that has ever fired someone knows how difficult it is, particularly when the individual in question has a family to support. Most people fired are given a letter of some sort that many times skirts the real reason so as not to make that individual un-hireable. Because of the publicity, firing Snacks at the the time would have made him basically un-hireable in his field, not that he did not bring that on himself, but still...Coach Self made a decision to give him a second chance with a lot more information than we have and taking a personal risk, so it is unfair to second guess him. Sometimes we just have to trust his judgment.
I find it fishy that all these stories are suddenly coming to the forefront at this particular time...again, one of those things that makes you go hmmm...
Allegedly...
I noticed that too but did not dare talk about it and risk getting sent to the doghouse by the board's mom...π
To be fair, many posters here were also predicting a blowout ...the team surprised not only UK but many KU fans as well.
The story gets crazier every day...
Are you looking at the TV guide in Eastern rather than Central time?
Facebook streamed the press conference live. Coach Self was having a hard time trying to explain how important Lucas is to the team; he had to backtrack some since at first his words did no come out as he intended them to.
