@wrwlumpy

My contract with Consolidated expires next week and I have been looking at AT&T, Comcast, TWC and Google and none offers what I get from Consolidated for a comparable price. TWC would provide less and cost 50% more; thanks but no thanks...I will go on hating %$#@#%^^ Zenger.

I am not advocating moving the team permanently to AFH but perhaps for some unique, high profile games such as this game? It's all good, I hope the Lady Hawks kick some Texas butt on Saturday.

just my take • Oct 27, 2016 10:38 PM

@jayballer54

Again, what is exactly your point? You complain that we don't get high ranked players and when I show you how top players alone don't really make a difference and KU actually has gotten it share of high ranked players, now you change your tune...again.

KU has some of the better recruiters in college basketball and anyone that say otherwise does not know jack about college basketball. Many posters have tried to explain to you that with some recruits it does not make a difference who is the recruiter, they will go where they want to go anyways. Do you really think that KU's "recruiters" twirl their thumbs and just don't bother to follow up and close? If you believe this, then you probably need to hang around more on the forums you cited and less here; obviously listening to other well reasoned ex[explanations is not your forte and you are most likely wasting your time ...and ours. Nothing personal but this is my last word on the subject.

@Crimsonorblue22 @Kcmatt7

My point is not about the comfort their home court brings; of course it does. My point is that as they move up the ranks, they need to have a bigger audience. Limiting the audience to 1,300 fans is not the best way to get exposure. I, for one, would have loved to see them but since it is sold out and tickets can be bought only through resale outlets, the cost is outrageously high, particularly when thanks to $^&&^%^# Zenger, the game is blacked out on ESPN3 for all of Kansas and the KC Metro area.

This is by no means the same as the men's basketball team playing at the Sprint Center, that is located in a different state, where KU has no control over the gate and makes a lot less money than playing at home and both games have full TV exposure. AFH is essentially next door and under full control of the Athletic Department and the gate would be considerably higher. Sometimes you have to look at the big picture...just sayin'...

just my take • Oct 27, 2016 08:57 PM

@wissoxfan83

KU missed the dance in '82 and '83 before missing in '89., so the streak would have had 6 more games.

With as much enthusiasm as thee is in Lawrence about the KU volleyball team, I believe the could have had substantial crowd at AFH like they have had before.. 8 or 10 thousand fans at AFH can be pretty loud.

I would think there is another gym in Lawrence that holds more than 1,300 and less than 16,000...lots of people that wanted to see the team will not be able and guess what...it is on ESPN3 which is blocked to so many fans. One more reason to hate %$#&^$% Zenger...

@wissoxfan83

I agree. KSU should have taken Underwood when he was available; he is the future and Liberace is the past. Very difficult now for him to go to KSU when Weber gets canned, likely at the end of this season; typically coaches do not move from one conference team to another.

@Crimsonorblue22

Yep, the marching band is playing at the Band Festival and they go in at 8:30 PM. The Horejsi Family Athletics Center holds only 1,300 people; I bet many area High Schools have bigger gyms. It would surprise me if this game didn't' draw 6,000-8,000 fans at AFH

@jayballer54

I am afraid you have not presented a good case and your are definitely in the minority when it comes to sites with members with a decent basketball knowledge; The basketball IQ in this forum is considerably higher than that in most other forums where all the do is fight. Look at the "old" site for example, some posts are downright embarrassing.

I am not sure why you think KU has a problem with recruiting. Having the #1 class guarantees you nothing. Look at Kentucky with all its #1 ranked classes since Calipari got there...in this century, they have as many National titles as KU, 1. You seem to forget that in the last 4 classes, KU has gotten the #1 pick twice with Wiggins and Jackson and several other highly ranked players...that left 350 other programs wishing they were KU. Coach Self seems to do best, not with the OADs, but with players in the 10-30 range and even lower. Frankly, you are imagining a problem where there is none and you expect posters to agree with you; good luck with that.

Yes and no. 9-12 months is the normal time to full recovery after "standard" ACL surgery; however, if the surgery was more complicated than the average, it could take longer. I don't know if Coleby had routine ACL surgery or if his was more complicated. Also, recovery time for bigger, heavier individuals is typically longer.

Is is possible that he has not quite recovered mentally and he still does not truss the knee. When I had shoulder surgery, I babied that shoulder for a long time and I only started using it fully when I had surgery on the other shoulder.

I will be in Lawrence Saturday for the KU HS Marching Band Festival since my grandson is playing with the Olathe South band. I looked into getting tickets for the Volleyball match and they have 14 left of stub hub starting at $72 per ticket...they should have moved that game to AFH and the would have 4 times more people and the ticked cost would be more reasonable; I am not willing to pay $72 for women's volleyball tickets.

@Kcmatt7

Do you think SLU will now have a designated flopper? Maybe this what did it for Gordon...LOL.

just my take • Oct 27, 2016 03:51 AM

@jayballer54

Who said anyone is settling for Conference Championships? Conference Championships are nothing but a stepping stone to the NCAA Title and a sign of a consistently superior program. You have to admit that winning a Conference puts you in a better position (better seed) to contend for the title, right? Keep in mind that only one team has won more conference titles in a row than KU, UCLA which did it in 3 different conferences and with 3 different coaches, unlike KU that is doing it in just one conference and with just one coach. It is indeed an amazing accomplishment that hopefully KU will own all by itself and a record that might never be broken.

Do you really think that #7 Seed UConn in 2014 was the best team or had the better players? or even Villanova last year? Look at Kentucky and all its top recruiting classes; it has won just 1 Title in this Century, same as KU.

Relax, enjoy the ride and watch Coach Self do his magic...like he does every year.

Payback time...Rock Chalk Lady Jayhawks!!!

@jaybate-1.0

First, when referring to basketball you don't use pelota, you use balón, "basketball" in Spanish is "baloncesto" where "balón" is ball and "cesto" is basket.

Next, a word of friendly advice...when you take and English word and add an "a" or an "o" or any other vowel at the end to make it sound like Spanish, to native Spanish speakers it sounds condescending and even racist and most don't appreciate it; you can take the advice in the spirit in which it is given.

English is a beautiful language and you are extremely good at it, why would you try anything else? My last word on the subject.

@jaybate-1.0

UNC's Academic Fraud Case • Oct 26, 2016 07:35 PM

UNC gamed the system with impunity and gained an unfair advantage over it rivals. I would like to see the NCAA throw the book at them. Any substantial sanctions to the basketball program will likely result in the retirement of Coach Williams; not the way I would like to see him go but he had to have known about it and did nothing.

just my take • Oct 26, 2016 07:07 PM

@jayballer54

I am not sure what your point is. KU follows a lot of players but actively pursues maybe a dozen each class; there is really no room or resources to recruit more players. Let's face it, much like most other elite programs, only the better, say top 50, players will get a decent chance to play unless you are a go-getter, like Mari who worked his butt of and got playing time. If you are not in the top 50 and do not have the confidence or desire to come and earn playing time, you are not going to get it at KU. BTW, you better be ready to play defense. This is the primary reason why we lose some of the so called prospects

Many OADs are just biding their time to get to the NBA and have no desire to even attend classes and some programs will allow them to do this but I am afraid KU will not . I remember hearing that Michael Beasley did not even bother to attend classes the second semester at KSU and was seen driving a Hummer around Manhattan, and as soon as the Tournament was over, he was gone...this is just not happening at KU under Coach Self. As you can see, this limit the talent available even more so. The squid, on the other hand, has made it clear that his job is to prepare players for the NBA and to get them there as soon as possible, you can see why this makes UK a more desirable destination for many players.

Last, I do not believe for a minute that KU will not continue to do well regardless of who signs. Coach Self has had to deal with complete turnover several times and he has manged to continue winning with classes ranging from average to outstanding. After 12 straight Conference titles, I don't know why you would even worry about this. Yes, someday the streak will end but he will still finish in the top 3 in the conference. Lay back, relax and enjoy watching Coach Self do what he does best...WIN!

Do we really want a guy that does not have enough confidence to believe he can earn playing time? I think not. I much rather have a scrapper like Mari that will work his ass off and fight for playing time. With Coach Self you are not entitled to playing time, you earn it.

You are kidding right? Dean Smith himself indicated he sent Roy William to his Alma Mater, KU, to get experience until he was ready to retire and Roy Williams was ready to take over the program at UNC. A very close friend of mine was at the time very high officer at KU and very close to many of the top William Fund contributors and he indicated that they all knew Roy Williams was eventually leaving for UNC. I knew he was leaving but I have always indicated that the timing (NCAA Tournament) was absolutely horrible and a slap to the face of KU by alum Dean Smith. I did not at the time and still do not have a problem with Roy Williams leaving, I did and still do have a problem with the way it happened and most of it can be attributed directly to Dean Smith.

You made it very clear in your post that you thought Shai was not recruited much and the only known school that offered was Florida...I would think that Florida is a superior program compared to Towson and Appalachia State, so compared to Mason and Graham he is way ahead. Like I said, if Coach Self thinks he will help KU I am all for it. I have not seen anything in his profile that raises any kind of red flag, maybe you know something we don't and hopefully you will share it with us.

@globaljaybird

Amen to that brother.

So I guess • Oct 25, 2016 03:45 AM

@jaybate-1.0

We all knew that Roy Williams was on loan to KU and we all knew that sooner or later he would go back to UNC; we just did not know when. Anyone that thought Roy Williams was a lifer at KU was fooling himself. KU Alum Dean Smith made the call earlier than we anticipated by pulling the rug from under former Tar Heel Mat Doherty and completely undermining his authority and ruining his career in the process.

I don't see any scenario where Bill Self goes to Duke anymore than I see any scenario where KU goes after Calipari. Duke much like KU, has too much pride to go after an elite rival's coach. They have several up and coming coaches that are part of the Duke tree including Bobby Hurley, Steve Wojciechowski, Johnny Dawkins, Tommy Amaker, Mike Brey and yes...that KU favorite punching bag...Quin Snyder.

As far as Shai Alexander, you posted there were all kinds or red flags because he was not highly recruited.

According to the Rivals page, he was offered by Florida, and then by no other major, or elite major. He was offered by the likes of Binghampton, American U, Middle Tennessee and St. Bonaventure.

Ding, ding, ding, ding!!! Red flag. Warning lights. Ah oooogah, Ah oooogah!!!

Is how you put it. I named the two current KU guards Mason and Graham, both outstanding players, that came top KU under very similar conditions and no flags were raised and Coach Self proved once again that he is one smart cookie when it comes to evaluating potential and talent. If Coach Self does not see all the red flags you do and goes after him I say good for him and in 2-3 years we might have one the top players in the League.

Frank Mason had committed to Towson ↗before de-committing and committing to KU.

Devonte Graham originally signed with Appalachian State ↗ only to de-commit, spend and extra year at Brewster academy and then join KU.

Ding, ding, ding, ding!!! coach Self and staff know a lot more than all of us.

Bill Self will likely win a Title this year in spite of your thoughst about shoe-cos, and with a couple of pieces falling into place, he might repeat next year. Remember when the Florida players chose to come back for a second title?

You do know that the Jordan Brand is a subsidiary of Nike and thus any money it makes goes right to Nike, right? No conflict between Nike and Jordan.

Self is at the right place at KU with a programs that is all his and on track to get even better; breaking the consecutive conference title record will be a feat of historical proportions. He already has the record as a coach for most consecutive titles with 12 (Mark few is second with 11) and next season, when he breaks the record of 13 consecutive titles by UCLA, it will be even bigger deal since UCLA did it in 3 conferences and under 3 different coaches and with the help of 7 multi seasons First Team All-Americans (12 times total) while Coach Self had only 2, Simien and Robinson with one season each.

KU has had the #1 ranked recruit 2 of the last 3 years and many other highly ranked recruits as well and seems to be doing fine. UK has had the lion's share of recruits recently...how is that working out for them? If not for McLemore being ineligible in 2012, KU likely has one more title...just sayin'
