Kansas vs Washburn • Nov 02, 2016 01:53 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

At least looks like they are hassling, although ineffectively.

Kansas vs Washburn • Nov 02, 2016 01:49 AM

The 3 keeping Washburn in the game; KU need to defend it better, much better...

Kansas vs Washburn • Nov 02, 2016 01:48 AM

Josh is a natural scorer...

Kansas vs Washburn • Nov 02, 2016 01:34 AM

Using my cell phone as a hot spot is working for me. YAY.

Kansas vs Washburn • Nov 02, 2016 12:10 AM

Amazing, my T-Mobile phone is getting ESPN3, even when it asked me to sign in with my Consolidated account. I will try to use the phone as a hot spot and see if I can get it in in my computer with multiple monitors.

The greatest • Nov 02, 2016 12:08 AM

@Kcmatt7

You are missing the main component. By and large Wilt played for crappy teams where he was basically the entire team, except for a couple of years. Shaq, on the other hand, played for much better teams and had a much better supporting cast. Place Shaq in most of the teams Wilt played and see how his number dip.

The greatest • Nov 01, 2016 10:04 PM

@justanotherfan

One quick note. At age 25, Shaq was playing in his 6th season in the NBA, at age 25, Wilt was starting his 3rd season...3 years of experience is quite a bit, considering Wilt spent some yeasr with the Harlem Globe Trotters, not exactly the best place to find decent competition to hone your skills.

I can't say I like them...maybe tolerate them migh be more appropriate.

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 09:50 PM

@globaljaybird

How long ago was that? Sprint has pretty good coverage in the metro area now. Verizon might have good coverage but I have yet to find one customer that is happy. Near the Plaza in KC the coverage is lousy and if you go inside a building it drops immediately. You cannot use your Verizon phone over wi-fi like T-Mobile, so you have to get a booster ($160), place it by a window with antenna and then it takes a couple of minutes every time you go inside before the phone connect to the booster...a royal PIA and their tech. support sucks. Even with a more restricted coverage, I would take Sprint over Verizon any day.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you. It is said that Wilt had a 50 in. vertical jump, can you name me one of the modern center that comes even close to that? I will give you a clue, the average for the NBA is 28" and Shaq is listed at 32". Wilt was an athletic freak, regardless of what era he played; with today's training techniques he would be even better. BTW, Shaq's playing weight was 325 lbs and he is one of the heaviest and biggest players ever in the NBA and a lot of his success was by plowing over players with bulk rather than skill or finesse. If some of Wilt's feats of strength are to be believed, he was probably stronger, faster and much more agile than Shaq and would have dominated him much like he did every other player. Just my opinion.

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 08:25 PM

@Ralph

Providers used to give away the phones and charge a lot more for the service. Under the Euro model, we pay a lot less for the service but buy our phones; obviously you can get them from the providers and pay over 12 or 124 months, but if you change provider, the fullbalance is due immediately. Best of luck in your search for a new provider...

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Nov 01, 2016 07:49 PM

@drgnslayr

He is extremely athletic and has range all the way to the 3 line. He likes to bang inside and you can say he might end up being a more athletic version of Perry Ellis, although at this time he is just beginning to learn the system and does not have quite the basketball IQ or the moves Perry does but he is still pretty green and has a lot to learn. I have him as my breakout player so obviously I am pretty impressed with him.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Nov 01, 2016 06:40 PM

@drgnslayr

Coach Self was very impressed with him but he is still learning the system. If Bragg gets in foul trouble and Coach does not want to go small, I can see Mitch and Svi taking turns at the 4 since Washburn does not really have anyone over 6'-7".

Who leads the team in Scoring tonight? • Nov 01, 2016 06:36 PM

I can see that if Lucas has improved his offense, any of the 5 starters could lead the team in a given night. Not bad, not bad at all.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Nov 01, 2016 06:32 PM

@wrwlumpy

I don't believe they will be on the court together much. LOL. BTW, Clay on the left and Mitch on the right.

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 06:24 PM

@Ralph

That is by and large correct. We are now moving to the European model where providers provide the service and you can buy your phone wherever you want. I bought my latest phone on EBay; it was essentially brand new and I paid a whole lot less.

I don't believe there is a phone that is compatible with all carriers since they use different technologies. I was able to make Verizon high end phone work on T-Mobile but some of the T-Mobile features, such as hot spot, were not available and I ended up getting a fully compatible T-Mobile phone.

The greatest • Nov 01, 2016 06:16 PM

I don't agree that we have more tall players now; there were plenty of tall players in Wilt's time, just none that could match up with him and I cannot think of a center that could match up now; physically he was way ahead of his time.

Last season I checked the starting rosters of all NBA teams and there were only half a dozen players identified as true centers, most of the players we consider center are now listed ad PFs. Tall players do not want to bang inside anymore and many that are tall enough to be centers are either PFs or the currently popular stretch PF.

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 04:09 PM

@dylans

I am familiar with the freebie Tuesday, although I really don't use it that much. Last time They called me they asked if I was satisfied with my router and I said I was but they over-nighted me a brand new one, for free, made specially for them by ASUS that optimizes wireless calls, not a bad deal. Every time they call they always go over my contract to see if they can get me a better deal; no other service provide has ever done anything even remotely similar, when they call it is usually to raise the rates. Of all the service/utility providers I deal with, T-Mobile is by far the best.

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 03:18 PM

But of course I am special...and not in a short bus kind of way. LOL.

Cell service in KC • Nov 01, 2016 10:11 AM

I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile about 6 years ago and I couldn't be happier. Great rates excellent tech. support and lots of perks. I get a call about every other month asking how my service is working and they usually have a freebie for me.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Nov 01, 2016 09:55 AM

KU basketball games have been sold out as far back as I remember. There is no rational explanation why they should be blacked out...other than the KSU alumnus who happens to be the AD trying to limit viewership.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Oct 31, 2016 09:52 PM

@Kcmatt7

In that case you are not mirroring but most likely you are streaming. Many of the newer cell phones and TV sets have the option of duplicating the phone screen on your TV without any other equipment. I am waiting for Black Friday to get one with that specific feature.

OAD documentary • Oct 31, 2016 09:48 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

It might not help him top go to classes but costs the school plenty if he does not. The OAD is a joke and should be eliminated. Give the players the option to go straight to the NBA and once they do that they can never come back to college and play sports, or if the go to college they need to stay 3 years before becoming eligible for the NBA. Mnay players that have left after 3 years have been able to get their degree. Aldrich being a good example and McLemore continues to take classes and hope to graduate some day; he has turned out to be a great ambassador for KU.

New Texas book out😳 • Oct 31, 2016 09:41 PM

The greatest • Oct 31, 2016 09:34 PM

When you look at players in the context of the team or teams they played, some move higher and some move lower. Wilt, by and large, played for below average teams and still managed to put incredible numbers. Bill Russel is the complete opposite, he is no doubt a great player but he played for extremely good teams that made him look that much better. If you look a the head to head numbers against Wilt, it is not even close...btu the Celtics won most of the games. Other than the one year at Milwaukee, Kareem did not had superior teams with the Bucks and only got better once he went to the Lakers. Jordan and Olajuwon had very good teams around them and their success is partly a result of that, although both were superior players. I would take Kareem over Olajuwon any time.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Oct 31, 2016 09:03 PM

@kjayhawks

Actually it makes sense. When you connect to wi-fi it goes through your internet provider which block the signal. if you stay with your cell provider, the signal comes through your cell and not through your internet provider. I should try with T-Mobile since I have unlimited internet and I have a huge chunk of the high speed type already stashed away.

AP Poll- KU#3 • Oct 31, 2016 08:56 PM

@BeddieKU23

UK is thin on experience...what else is new?...but they do have a lot of potential talent; Many think Adebayo will be huge for them as well as Fox and Monk. While I don't consider the squid to be an elite coach, he is not a bad coach and every ranking of College BBall coaches I have seen almost always has him as one of the top 5 coaches.

Do they deserve to be #2? I don't know and I don't believe anyone really knows and at this point is really all speculation. I believe you can take the top 5 spots and change them any way you want and you would not be that far off; Duke has two top players injured and might not be nearly as good at the beginning of the season, actually with his injury history, at this point Giles is a huge "IF" for Duke and I bet coach rat face is worried...he might have to dole out extra money to the refs. LOL.

So who is this Kenny Wooten? • Oct 31, 2016 08:41 PM

@Kcmatt7

Everything I have seen or read projects Bragg as the breakout player at KU and perhaps even the conference. The only knock on him was that he was not strong enough and got pushed around in the paint; with Huddy's help, I don't believe this will be and issue, considering he is a year older (although still pretty dang young) and beefier. I would be surprised...and pleased... if he comes back.

@brooksmd

I was referring to the baseball fans in the City of Chicago...they are a pretty obnoxious bunch, I found the Bulls fans to be much better and do they actually have quite a bit to brag about...LOL.

Carlton and Udoka • Oct 30, 2016 05:23 PM

@ralster

Udoka is still pretty raw and also a lot younger than the average first year player. He is still growing and it will take some time before he mentally "grows" into his physical body. Also, his skills are pretty basic and from reading about practice, he still has a long ways to go before he has a working knowldege of both defensive and offensive schemes so he is productive. I really do not expect him to play that much early, perhaps 5-10 minutes fill-in time.

I will preface my post by saying I really don't follow baseball that much other than the Royals. Why is it that the cubs get so much love and Cleveland so little? I like Chicago a lot but Chicagoans can be pretty obnoxious and if the Cubs win they would be insufferable for a long time.

I have no dog in this fight but I think I favor Cleveland just because they are in the AL and I like tradition...and the Cubs not winning is....well...a tradition...

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Oct 29, 2016 05:50 PM

@Ralph

The contracts between TWC Sport KC Chanel and KU was negotiated by Zenger. They get exclusive rights to several KU basketball, football and several other sports games and ESPN 3 blacks out all these games in the State of Kansas and areas like the greater KC Metro area. Although we are mostly familiar with the men's basketball games that get blacked out, several football, women's basketball, volleyball, soccer and track and field events get blacked out as well. How much money do you think KU gets in return? Nothing, Zero, zippo, zilch...KU gets paid by in-kind programming and features about sports at KU. What do you think the audience for a feature on the women's rowing team is? Not counting the parents of the athletes probably in the dozens? maybe hundreds? The TV audience for one blacked out men's basketball is likely several time larger than the combined audience of all the features run in an entire year about all the minor sports combined.

A large number of die hard KU fans in the Kansas City Metro area have been left with no options and most every body I know around here hates Zenger...even more than I do. LOL.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Oct 29, 2016 05:17 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

I have not problem with that. I do pay for the sports tier on my cable package and it includes ESPN3...which blacks out KU games in Kansas; go figure. In my subdivision we have Consolidated, AT&T, Google, Comcast and TWC which just laid cable but will not be connecting for a couple of months, so the only option to get the "KU sport channel" is Comcast; I was told they made it so difficult and prohibitively expensive that none of the other cable providers carry it. I used to have Comcast until about 6 years ago and it was without a question, the worst service/utility of any kind I ever had. Even If I have to miss the entire season, I rather go sit at a sports bar to watch the games than get Comcast. I started with Everest which was fantastic and then it was bought out and became SureWest which was not nearly as good but acceptable and now it is Consolidated Communications which is barely acceptable but still head and shoulder better than Comcast.

My point is that KU fans living in Kansas should not have to jump thorough hoops to watch KU sports.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Oct 29, 2016 04:41 PM

@Ralph

TTBONK, Sling TV is not free, so you are paying for something that Kansans should be getting at no cost. Why black out KU games, and it is not men's basketball only but every program that is doing well, in the State of Kansas only? This agreement sucks and if this is the best Zenger can do, then he he should not have that position; he should go back to his Alma Mater KSU and black out Liberace.

Looking at Conf's non/conf schedules • Oct 29, 2016 04:33 PM

@jayballer54

You have to look at those schedules in more detail and in context. Many of those games are pre-season, much like KU playing Washburn and Emporia State, and do not count in the offcial record. Others, like Wofford, might not be well known by it has been to the NCAA 4 of the last 6 years and it is a pretty decent program, Eastern KY has been to the NCAA and in 2014, it took a big game by Jamari to get past them. These are just a couple right off the top of my head. Look at other conferences and you will see that the schedules you mentioned are typical of most major programs. Smaller schools will play big programs just to get a big paycheck and big programs typically do not play each other in pre-conference play unless it is in a big stage or a Tournament; this is the ways it has always been, although the Big 12 has had the highest RPI the previous 3 years.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS • Oct 29, 2016 04:05 PM

@Ralph

The greater KC Metro area and all of Western Missouri is blocked. If you are in Eastern Missouri might be able to get it. Also, your provider has to offer ESPN3 and it has to be in your cable package since it requires you to sign in.

OK, got a question • Oct 29, 2016 05:39 AM

Why in the world would you pair KU with MU when you can have a real game with UK or Florida or Arkansas or A&M or....well, just about any other school?

WASHBURN ICHABODS • Oct 29, 2016 05:27 AM

I get most every NBA game through several cable Chanels and I also get the NBA Chanel .

WASHBURN ICHABODS • Oct 29, 2016 05:08 AM

@ralster

Indeed. However, I would not use Phelps to attack anyone. For years I have heard about it from people all over the country and it has been a source of embarrassment, both as a Kansan and as someone with human decency, that he made his residence in Topeka, Kansas.

Update, JoJo • Oct 29, 2016 04:51 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

Sergio Rodriguez has been around for about 10 years and has played into NBA before for 5 or 6 years. He is considered one of the better players in Europe. Some of his awards include:

  • ACB Rising Star Award (2005)
  • Spanish Supercup MVP (2013)
  • 3x All-ACB Team (2014–2016)
  • All-EuroLeague First Team (2014)
  • EuroLeague MVP (2014)
  • 2x All-Europe Player of the Year (2014, 2015)
  • EuroLeague champion (2015)
  • FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship MVP (2004)

Not a bad resume.

Checking in on KU volleyball • Oct 29, 2016 04:07 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

It would cost me over $700 per year extra to switch to TWC and get less product and crappy service and KU does not benefit from it at all. For that much money I can get tickets to the 6 games that will be blacked out.

WASHBURN ICHABODS • Oct 29, 2016 04:03 AM

@kjayhawks

More often than not, he wore KU gear so let's not throw stones. I know that neither KU nor KSU or any one with an iota of common decency would claim him. Let's not give him any more ink, he now has to account to a higher authority.
