A sign of the times we live in...win at any and all costs...
Correct, I was being nice about it.
Welcome back.👍
Actually, Blake Harris is originally from Chapel Hill, NC and he is moving to Raleigh, NC which is close to home (30 Miles) likely due to family situation for which the NCAA has granted waivers before. I take it hometown school UNC did not have room for him.
I agree. I don’t understand why anyone would call this team unbalanced, if anything, last year’s team was a lot more inbalanced since it depended a lot more on the outside shot than inside scoring where the only real threat was Doke.
Yes, the front line with its depth is probably the best in Division I but the backcourt is right up there as well. Moore, the likely starting PG is a proven player that averaged double digits in Division I before, has had one additional year learning the system and other players have indicated he is currently the best 3 point shooter. He played SG in HS where his height was not as much of a handicap as it is in college (same as Mason) and can really play both positions. Dotson is the #4 ranked PG in the class and one of the faster and better ball handlers we have had. Grimes is the top ranked combo guard of the class and one of the more NBA ready players we have had; he played PG for the U19 team and was selected the MVP of the tournament. Add to that Garret, who played PG in HS and was named the Gatorade POY for the state of Texas, a basketball recruiting hot bed, and one outstanding defender. That is 4 very capable PGs that can match anyone. Playing SG/wing we have Grimes, Vick a proven performer and solid 3 point shooter, K.J. who is one of the more versatile players we have and even Agjabi who came really strong last season. This is a very solid backcourt (top 3???) and a great complement to the front line. I am not worried about the 3-point shooting, I believe KU will surprise everybody in this stat. In any case, shooting 60% inside is a wash with shooting 40% from 3 and this team is plenty capable of shooting that high or higher from inside.
In short, this team has more depth and balance than any other recent team; perhaps Coach Self’s best team ever and even better than the ‘08 team.
Yes, a step in the right direction and moving in the direction and considering factors the better computer ratings like Sagarin, Pomeroy and Massey moved years ago. The question is how those factors will be factored? Some of the ratings I mentioned use different factors in different ways, some use reported player status, some like Sagarin improve and become steadier the season moves along, Pomeroy introduced a luck factor and so on so. The end result appears to be similar, i.e. roughly same top 25 teams but the individual teams can be many position apart and be quite different. Sagarin gives you a clean look at the rankings using 3 methods, If you subscribe to a Pomeroy you can get a ton of supporting statistics and Massey I think is closer to the human rankings. Unless there is a built-in bias in the algorithms, the computer rankings tend to be more impartial and consistent.
The NCAA met with several of the computer rankings developers and I imagine will take bits and pieces of each system and try to create a consensus ranking. Like I said a good first step that will no doubt have some initial growing pains and obviously detractors.
I am sure you mom will love it; as we get older we truly enjoy when our kids or grandkids do thoughtful things for us. Also, we really don’t expect the Royals to win so if they do, it is a nice surprise.
Zion will not be playing Center so likely Dedric would be guarding him and then he can have Doke, Silvio, Big Dave or Even Mitch (who is a very good blocker and has bulked up quite a bit over the Summer) meet him at the rim and they all are plenty big and strong to match up with him. The only time KU might play Duke would be at the Tournament and it is doubtful the NCAA would pair KU and Duke again, particularly if KU is the better team...they would not want Duke beotch slapped again.

Certainly sounds like that could happen
It sure would be nice and it might start the domino effect with the othre targets and for a change we would not have to sweat until the last minute for Coach Self to pull a rabbit from the hat.
We will not have to outscore opponents to win the game.
Well..actually we do...Just kidding, couldn't resist.
I know what you are saying and I agree, the defense will be superior so we do not need high scoring games but I would not be surprised if the team scores in the mid to upper 80s; lots of scoring threats including 5 returning players that averaged double digits.

@JayHawkFanToo I figured your daughter was perfect, and the fact she lives on a dorm is a great testament to your teachings of bringing her up in the great outdoors?
No, my daughter did not live in a dorm, the students lived in a dorm that was part of the school; they lived there because no one would take them in foster care. She went home at the end of the day to take care of her own kids. She is by no mean perfect and I am not sure what the outdoors have to do with it...unless you are implying we were homeless?
I am out.
I did not mentioned the term Millennial. right?
...buit, since you brought it up and FWIW....
"A 2018 report from Pew Research Center defines Millennials as born from 1981 to 1996, choosing these dates for "key political, economic and social factors", including September 11th terrorist attacks. This range makes Millennials 5 to 20 years old at the time of the attacks so "old enough to comprehend the historical significance."
Here is a good write up ↗ on the Millennial generation.
Now, not everybody that was born in this period of time fits the Millennial stereotype. My two kids are part of that generation but they were raised in way that neither fits the Millennial image. For example, my daughter decided a day before starting college that she would not go and spent the next few years working minimum wage jobs until she realized that it was the wrong way to go through life. She went back to college as a non-traditional student getting grants, scholarships and loans to pay for school and graduated with honors with a teaching degree and she taught high risk/special education kids in the inner city at a school where kids are so troubled that even foster car will not take them and lived on a dorm next to the school...not exactly the image of a Millennial. While neither fit the image, they both acknowledge that their generation as a group is one entitled, me-first group. I grew up in the 50s and 60s and went to college in the 70s and my generation was called the hippy and pot head generation and, while I personally never even took a toke of pot, there is no question that most of the people of my generation did; it would be stupid to say otherwise.
Here is a neutral poll ↗ that indicates that Millennials are entitled and even Millennials agree.
Again, calling a group Millenials is not an insult to anyone in particular and by no means indicates that everybody in that generation fits the mold. My kids readily agree they are Millennials but they add that the do not fit the expected Millennial mold.
Posters can take my comments in any way that pleases them. either as an insult or just a general statement on our society at large as it was always meant to be.
Agree. Maybe he wants that Duke degree...
Rivals 5-star, ranked#11and #1 Center. He certainly has under performed.
I read where inflation is now 1 million percent...unheard of and unprecedented. Also, the government finally and officially admitted that the socialist economic model was a failure, something everybody has known for years.
Bolden was highly ranked out of HS and even KU recruited him heavily but so far he has been a disappointment. He will be a junior that has yet to be a starter. I am sure he could have developed much more at a different school where he would not have been recruited over time and again.
You mean...no participation trophies? I see a run on Xanax coming up among members of a certain generation (that will remain nameless lest I want to incur the wrath of some posters).
I believe Quade Green starts at SG and Hagans at PG, but still, a pretty loaded starting 5 with 3 returning players (including Travis), and the bench is talented albeit unpredictable. With Herro it has a better shooter than any they had last season but overall defense is still a question mark depending on how good of a rim protector Richards becomes or Montgomery plays.
Duke better be praying that a couple of bench players develop quickly like KU did last season until Silvio was able to play. No margin of error for Duke.
A class of Williamson, Hurt and JRE would be ideal, 2 out of 3 good to very good, 1 out of 3 average to good. If KU loses all 3 it would be very worrisome.
The VB program had a perfect storm of recruiting, and players that exceeded expectations and a great run for several years and now it is in full rebuilding mode. How well it does this season with the personnel at hand will tell how good of a coach Bechard is. Hopefully the new AD is able to provide enough support to keep the program at the success level of the last few years and not let it drop like football.
Some KU related news on former players.
As we know, Newman started with a two-way contract with the Lakers and then he was cut. He has now signed a two-way contract with the Miami Heath; maybe a bit of Chalmers' good will remaining? Hopefully he develops like Mario did.
Arthur was traded from Denver to the Nets. hopefully he gets more playing time than he did with Denver although his salary there was insanely high in relation to playing time.
I agree. With as many stars as UK has... and with some returning for a change, hard to tell who will start. Like KU, UK will have a deep bench but, if their recent Bahamas trip is an indication, Herro will play substantial minutes and likely be matched with Grimes when KU plays them.
Also, great opportunity for the staff to scout both Duke and UK playing superior competition.
Zion is a LeBron class athletic freak but he is carrying 280 pounds and an injury or season long durability are definite issues for him. I suspect Duke will limit his playing time to minimize risk although it does not have the bench depth that KU and UK have so production will suffer some when the stars rest; they really don't have Devonte like players that can play 38 mpg.
Will the UK-Duke game at the Championship Classic feature the most 5 star/McDonals All Star players ever? No doubt the MSM will anoint the winner of that game the favorite...until KU beats UK at Rupp in January.
Unlike other players that can either score inside or outside only or need to be set to shoot, Herro is a natural scorer ↗ that can can create his own shot and score from anywhere, in transition and as a spot up shooter as well.
No pardon for either.
The Grimes-Herro battle will be the second coming of the Graham-Hield battle. Hero is the biggest surprise for UK and the go-to guy it has been waiting for. This going to be a great season.
Here is a link ↗ with more information.
Kentucky has a lot of top shelf talent and for a change experience. Tyler Herro is the real deal and apparently better than anticipated. How good the team turns out to be will depend on how quick the new players develop. The KU-UK might well be the game of the year and a preview of the NCAA championship game.

KU inches
ESPN, Rivals, Scout, Sports Illustrated and every ranking publication list him ad 6’2”
Next.
What did Vick do all last season, while Devonte was resting on the floor? Did KU somehow magically operate on mental telepathy from Devonte, or Self?
He parked himself at the corner waiting for a pass from Newman (who was the primary
PG backup or Garret or Svi to hit the open 3 or drive the baseline for a layup or dunk or cut for an alley oop.The one exception was the Washington game where he parked himself at the top of the key to take advantage of the Washington extended defense that left the paint open; he scored 28 points.
Next.
Why do you persist in this antic endeavor of pretending Vick was not doing the domestique 2 guard role same as Devonte did and same as Frank did before taking over the point? Are you really trying to make yourself think he didn’t? Why? It’s such an odd thing to try to make yourself think—such an odd disconnect. Vick has on the job training and grooming of the kind that Frank, a 2 in high school, and Devonte a 1 in high school, received the years before they took over the point. Heck, add Tyshawn. Add Elijah. You appear waaaaaaaaaay out there on this. “Aw, how does it feel, with no direction home, like a rollin’ Stone...” It feels a little strange to me, but I want to be as supportive as I can be. It’s the off season after all.
The reason he did not is because he is NOT a PG, he is not even a combo guard. He is a SG/wing. When Devonte was not directing the team, Newman was.
Next.
I see you still cannot find even one article, analysis or publication that backs up your claim. Until you find something...anything to back up your claim you will have to argue with yourself.
First, every publication I have seen and the KU website list Dotson as 6’2” not 5’11” as you wrote.
Second, I have yet to find any publication that indicates Vick ever played or will play PG at KU, he didn’t play that position before and now, with 4 players capable of playing PG, he will not play that position this season either; he will get decent minutes as SG or wing but not nearly as many as he did last season with a serious undermanned team. See @justanotherfan post above, he lists the same 4 players I did as playing PG as do all publication I read. Maybe you can find one that backs your point?
Third, I did not say Dotson will play 30 mpg; in fact, I indicated that Moore will likely start the season at the PG although Dotson might as the season progresses. Dedric and Grimes are the only players that might play 30 mpg, all the rest will have to share playing time.
The current system is complicated because it was purposely made that way by self serving politicians; there is no reason why the system cannot be made considerably simpler. Keep in mind that most of the heavy lifting is done by the staff and not the politician himself so when he is gone the support personnel can bring the new legislator up to speed fairly quickly.
I could call your posts mostly or almost comical as well but I don't out of respect. Is it too much would expect the same in return?
Now, read the entire paragraph and not pick just a portion of it. This is what I wrote...
"Any QB can look good behind a superior OL and with quality receivers and RBs. Superior QBs play well regardless and actually make the OL and other personal look better."
Did I say anywhere that KU QBs were bad? No, I did not, I simply said that they were not Power 5 Starting caliber and we all know that is true. Obviously we disagree so further discussion is moot.
I am looking more at the concept of the citizen legislator as envisioned by the founding fathers where an individual takes a few year off (2-4) to serve the country and then goes back to doing what he did before and not as a springboard for a new career. The only incentive is serving the people and not personal gain or future employment.
Agreed. The only one I have a question mark is Lightfoot. If you saw video of summer practice/scrimmages, he has been hitting the 3 extremely well and might move from being the odd man out to the ace in the hole.
Wouldn’t term limits and a ban on lobbying for 5 years afterwards solve the problem?
We must have watched different games.
More to the point, why would Coach Self play Vick at the PG when he has 4 player, 5 if you count K. J., that have proven they can play PG? Is not like he need to groom Vick for next season, right?
They are at KU because they are not Power 5 starting caliber QBs, if they were they would be playing elsewhere; unfortunately that is the current status of the program. The only quality QB KU has had recently quickly decommited.
Any QB can look good behind a superior OL and with quality receivers and RBs. Superior QBs play well regardless and actually make the OL and other personal look better.
Good point. One thing that totalitarian regimes always did well was to keep ethnic unrest under control like they did in the forme Eastern Block countries and the old Soviet Union in many cases led by one individual but this is a situation that was untenable in the long run. Once the tight control was broken in the early 1990s the domino effect was everywhere and the old block divided into number of smaller but more homogeneous countries and along ethnic lines. Yugoslavia divided into 6 different states and the Soviet Union into 15.
The Chinese have been more methodical and structured but the numerous ethnic groups were cobbled together by force and, much like Eastern Europe before, it might prove to be an untenable situation as well in the long run. The main difference is that some of the old Eastern block countries depended heavily on the persona (charisma?) of one or a very small group of individuals like Tito in Yugoslavia and once he was gone the structure fell apart. The Chinese do have a figure head at the top but the country is ruled by a large and very capable meritocracy and the country itself has been together for a lot longer than the old Easter block that really formed after WWI. No doubt that moving from an agrarian to an industrial economy will result in unintended consequences but not having had a precedent of this magnitude before makes it difficult to predict the end result. I am sure our intelligence agencies have large groups of scientists studying the various scenarios and running simulation to prepare for the eventual outcome.
Best way of getting their attention is to vote the bums out of office. Too bad we don’t use it as often as we should.
I believe you misunderstood my post. I did no blame the QBs for the team woes in past seasons; numerous reason for that and the subject of a different thread altogether. I simply indicated that with none of the QBs being Power 5 starting QB caliber makes it difficult to pick one...that’s all.
Vick did not play PG last season at all. Graham was the primary PG and averaged almost 38 mpg and when he was not playing PG, his primary back up was Newman and even Svi would bring the ball up the court occasionally as did Garret but not Vick. If Vick would have shown any potential to play PG, Coach Self would not have played Devonte as much as he did.
Take a look at the Dotson videos, he is one of the faster if not the fastest PG in a recent memory. He might not be a OAD (but he could well be) but perhaps a TAD. If one of those two is not available, Grimes would be the next choice; he played PG for the U19 National team coached by Self and he made the All-Tournament team and was named the Tournament MVP. Grimes is perhaps the most complete and ready to the next level play KU has had in a long time.
The backcourt will be primarily Moore, Dotson Grimes and Garret and Vick will share time with K. J. at the wing/SF and he might slide to SG when they are both in the same lineup, depending on matchups but I just don’t see Vick playing PG at all when there is a better role for him and 4 quality player available and better suited to the PG position.
Moore might start ahead of him but Dotson is plenty capable of taking over the position by the time conference play starts. Grimes played PG under Self for the USA Team in the U19 Tournament and he was the MVP of the tournament; he will likely play PG in the NBA and would certainly play PG ahead of Vick and so would Garret who was the HS Gatorade POY in Texas playing as PG. Highly unlikely Vick plays PG, he is the best returning 3 point shooter and likely will play like he did last season positioning himself in the corner for open 3s or driving the baseline for layups or dunks.
Hard to tell what the future will be like if the current trend continues to develop. The Turkey situation is indeed interesting and it might be due to the Chinese not quite understanding the local culture. China already has a large presence in a few South American countries And growing, same thing with Africa; no question China is aggressively expanding its presence worldwide.
The one wildcard is what will happen with all the people in China that were moved from the countryside to huge cities. As technology develops it will become more difficult to keep the hoi polloi under control and it might eventually want to have a less controlling system such as the one in Taiwan and if 600 million people decide they had enough, even the army will not be sufficient to stop the movement.
Interesting times are in the near future...
Very interesting and educational article ↗. It is long but well worth the read. It really has no overt or obvious political agenda only a sobering view of what we might see in the not too distant future. It sure got me thinking...
At this point I would think that Moore will start at PG although Dotson might take over as the season progresses; either way, both will take the bulk of the time. In a pinch or when a taller PG is needed, I can see Grimes playing PG; he did extremely well playing the position at the U19 tournament and Coach Self would have no problem having him play the position. Next, it would be Garret who already has PG experience. Pretty decent depth for the position and I just don’t see Vick running point but likely sliding to the SG when needed.
Because in the Nixon case there was plenty of evidence of collusion. So far Muller has not shown any evidence of collusion with Russia and the only case he has brought up so far, supposedly his strongest, is about tax evasion that happened much before Trump was even a candidate and has nothing to do with Trump or collusion with Russia or even his original charter.
Looks like Mueller should be investigating Hillary ↗ instead.
By the way, I am not a lawyer and never wanted to be one. I followed the same advise that Téa Leoni's father gave her when she thought she wanted to be an archeologist...don't do what you are good at, do what you are passionate about and become good at it.
"Rather than a warrant to arrest or search the property of a suspect, a subpoena is an order to a witness to produce documents or provide testimony. Subpoenas are available in civil as well as criminal proceedings, and can be obtained by any party. Normally a party who requires the disclosure of documents under subpoena before trial must show that (1) the documents are evidentiary and relevant, (2) they cannot otherwise be procured with due diligence, (3) they are needed for trial preparation, and (4) the application is made in good faith and is not a 'fishing expedition': United States v. Nixon, 418 U.S. 683 (1974), pp 699–700."
As I recall, Nixon was at the time the sitting president...
and...
"I originally stated that a subpoena is directed at a witness rather than a suspect. As pointed out in the comments below, a suspect can be a witness as well. But at common law, a subpoena could not be issued to a defendant in a criminal case because of the privilege against self-incrimination: R v Purnell (1748) 1 Wils 239, p 243. In Boyd v. United States, 116 U.S. 616 (1886), pp 634–635, the Supreme Court held that the Fourth Amendment protection from unreasonable searches and seizures and Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination reflected this part of the common law."
Now, if you believe Trump is not the ultimate target, then I have some waterfront property in Florida you might be interested...you cant't possibly be that naive.
Actually, Mitch would not start at Duke any more than he would at KU, at least not now. My only and specific, player-independent point was that given a choice of starting at Duke or sitting on the bench at KU and, as much a KU fan as I am, I cannot see any player that would choose KU under those specific circumstances. In any case, the chances of a bench player at KU starts for a Duke are pretty darn small and a player that is good enough to start for Duke likely would not be on the bench at KU. You will notice that I did not mention Mitch at all in my original post but I refer to elite players; I also indicated that I could see where a less talented player with no NBA aspirations would choose to be a bench player at KU rather than a star at a smaller program. Duke is not a smaller program.
