That was Keiton Page, the original Smurf on Steroids; Forte is the Smurf on Steroids Part Deux.
Coach Self should place a call to his friend Frank Martin at South Carolina, they held Forte to 1-10 from the 3 and 1-14 overall for a total of 5 points and won comfortably 75-49. Just sayin' :)
I would be interested in your personal comments about the KenPom numbers.
Obviously KenPom's computer does not watch the actual games, and as I indicated before, the model is pretty flawed until close to the end of the season when the outcome is mostly obvious anyway.
Do you believe that OU that just lost to bottom feeder KSU at home has the best chance of winning the conference? It looks like once again, a team gets more credit for losing than winning a close game.
I watched ISU play OSU and WVU and it had to hold on for dear life to beat OSU at home and barely won at West Virginia; both wins were by 2 points . Does this mean that OSU is better and WVU worse than we know or that ISU is wildly inconsistent, and if the later is the case, should they really have the 3rd bets odds to win the championship? On the other hand, ISU is obviously in a better position than Oklahoma since it won two games it could have easily lost while OU lost a game it most certainly should have won, wouldn't you agree?
Just a couple of observation by quickly glancing at the numbers, and again, I would be curious on what you think.
The first game in Lawrence was indeed very intense game and KU won by 2 after leading at half by 17. There were 6 technical or flagrant fouls. Here is a link ↗to the game recap. OSU won the return game in Stillwater 72-65 and prevent #5 KU from winning the conference title outright.
Although in the last 6 years we have lost some freedoms and all, and I mean ALL of our privacy, we are still a somewhat free country and Hasse was free to sign or not sign the contract.
I personally think the clause, in the context presented in the story, and much like most non-compete clauses in contracts, a half way decent attorney can get around it and make it unenforceable without too much problem. I am sure the contract specifically refers to criticism of administrative decision such as eliminating the football programs or changes to the Athletic Department budget or admission/eligibility criteria and such. More specifically, the items @jaybate-1.0 indicated in the first paragraph above are most likely unenforceable and if the school tries to enforce it, first, it would have a tough time having it upheld in a court of law and second, the backlash would be huge, particularly for public institution; a private school might have better luck..
These type of clauses are normally part of the "morals or morality clause" ↗ in contracts which limits some but not all behavior. It is very likely that this particular item is a proviso of such clause and just taken out of context in the story. This type of clause is typical of endorsement contracts, where a business paying and endorser/celebrity/athlete a huge amount of money, obviously does not want the endorser badmouthing the product or business and I am sure all coaches have such clause in their contracts. Most likely the is "much a do about nothing" as Shakespeare would say.
I seem to recall that was his nickname; on the other hand we had "Sir" Richard Scott...
The university president is under fire and facing a vote of no confidence, partly because the elimination of the football program. It is indeed highly unusual to specifically insert a clause preventing Hasse from criticizing school officials; normally this is covered by other, more generic, clauses.
Yeap. That be the one!!!
It is not just the Big 12; I believe all the conferences have rules against criticizing the referees publicly and will incur fines if they do so...it might even be a NCAA rule.
KU, of course...as it rightfully should be.
Coach Self explained before that he and his staff have connections with NBA scouts and do a detailed analysis for each player considering entering the draft to assess where they will go. For example Marcus was shoo in to go to the League and after they did the evaluation they determined that Markiff was a borderline lottery pick, so he decide to go as well and turned out they both were lottery picks
After the season is over, Coach Self and staff will go through the same exercise for players with NBA potential which at this time are Oubre, Alexander, Ellis, Selden and Traylor. Depending on how the rest of the season develops, particularly in March, one or more players might decide to try the draft and at least, they will have the numbers to make an informed decision.
As I predicted, Oklahoma State is now in the top 25 and ranked #24 and now the conference has 7 teams in the top 25. I am not sure if any conference ever had 70% of its teams in the top 25 before...if I were a betting man I would say no.
"Lord" Byron Houston? That is a name from the past; great player but flawed individual.
We have 15,600 users and maybe 2-3 dozen that post regularly...so we have close to 15,600 "virtual" lurkers... :)
15 players currently on the roster.
11 players with scholarship.
2 soft scholarships from transfers (Frankamp and White) likely being used by walk-ons Garret and Pollard and can be made available.
2 non- scholarship players - Self and Manning, unlikely they will get one
Garret is a senior and his schoolie, if he is using Frankamp's, will be available at the end of the semester anyway. So, the scholarship for Bragg is available even in no one leaves, and the one being held by Pollard can also be made available. I am sure that they would find a way to help him if they pull the schoolie.
In short, KU will have one more scholarship available even if no one leaves the program. There would also be one scholarship available for every player that leaves for the NBA or transfers. Mickelson is in his fourth year in college, although he is considered a red shirt junior and would be eligible to play immediately at another school if he "chooses" to transfer (I think). I believe this the same might apply tor Lucas (a good student), and he might have 2 years of eligibility left, although I am not sure how it would work for player that graduates in 3 years but because he sat one season would be only a red shirt junior. Last, if Perry graduates after this semester (he is also a very good student), he would be eligible to play without wait, but I would be shocked if he transfers.
At this time and based on performance to date, the only player with a good chance of leaving is Oubre, which BTW his dad indicated could stay more than one year if needed. We should have a better idea towards the end of the season, so it is not a bad thing that prospects are waiting to commit...maybe the KU situation is driving that train.
Wishful thinking from a Missouri fan...
Most top players/kids that age think they are good enough to go to the NBA and don't need any coaching...of course they are wrong, but good luck getting them to agree. This is why Calipari gets top players, by promising perks rather than coaching.
I watched Jaleel White, aka Steve Urkel, in a celebrity basketball match and he was nothing like his TV persona, he was actually a pretty decent player. Maybe this is a video of Turner's early years...:)

Wining makes everybody happy except your opponents, of course and Missouri fans. to which I say...

@Crimsonorblue22
Didn't Aaron Miles looked like Rudy Huxtable from the Bill Cosby show?
I must admit that I was one of those fans who was not sure how it would work...I am glad it worked out the way it did.
No question that improving his back to the basket skills would have made him a much, much better rounded player, but if I understand correctly, he does not like playing back to the basket and prefers the face up game and Texas offered that to him and KU did not. As you know, Coach Self does not "guarantee" playing time and much less style of play; players have to earn playing time and play the system Coach Self has set for the season, usually the High-Low.
Excellent take on Pastner, Memphis and Black. As you said, Pastner is young and considered one of the up and coming coaches that will stay around for a while and find success.
A couple of things that might shed some light. Tarik is from Memphis and there was always the assumption, real or imagined, that he would go to Memphis, so this may have limited recruiting by other coaches.
In his Junior year there were discipline/personality issues between Black and Pastner and the entire story has never really been revealed . At one time he walked out of practice and was suspended for a couple of games; he seemed to indicate he was tired of the lack of effort by other players but others indicated he had an attitude problem...most likely a combination of both. In any case, having the option to leave after that year and take a chance somewhere else or stay in an uncomfortable situation at Memphis, he chose the first. Let's remember that at that time (Summer 2013), there were several programs, like KU and Duke, with available scholarship wanting to a add complimentary/stop gag player and not many players to pick from. It was confluence of events that landed Tarik at KU. It turned out well for both Tarik and KU.
Again nice and objective write up by @icthawkfan316.
If you are taking about Myles Turner, he always said he wanted to play a stretch 4 or 5 and be a face up type of player, much like a Dirk Nowitzki and not a back to the basket players like most 7 footers. I thought he felt KU did not offer that opportunity.
I like to watch the game on the big screen, so I have to have to use a laptop or tablet to chat. I am not a fast typist, so trying to type and read posts is almost too distracting. Not too big of a problem on a game like yesterday, but on close games it takes away from the game...plus I am also checking on other games (split screen) and my multi-tasking skills are stretched to the limit. Easier to chat on sports like baseball with lots of dead time between batters, or even football with time between plays; other than time outs and half time, basketball is almost too fast to chat and take in all the details of the game.
Devonte also had 6 assists to go with his 2 points and 6 rebounds...
Here is the KU Official Boxcore...text ↗
Florida had a bunch of seniors last season and when they graduated, the team was suddenly pretty thin. A couple of years go KU lost fifth year players Releford, Young and Withey plus senior EJ and it has been very young since then.
Sometimes players have to move away from home; too much pressure and too many distractions when playing close to home.
I did post a tutorial wit lots of pictures a wile back...it is somewhere in the forum. I will see if I can find it and repost it.
As nice a win as this one was, It was against Texas Tech., the weakest team in the conference and the game was at AFH. The real test will be against OSU next Tuesday, a team that was getting lots of love in all the sports shows today; it would not surprise me to see them in the top 25 in the next poll.
It's my pleasure to be of help and contribute to the forum. :+1:
Amen sista!
Bench reaction...priceless!!!
You don't think he would have graduated at KU in 3 years like he did at Memphis? I think he would have and left for the NBA...
Would Tarik have been a 4 year player if he started at KU?
KSU beats OU at OU...huge win for KSU and bigger loss for OU. You have got to protect home court to have shot at the title...
I noticed that most publication are now referring to Tarik as the former Jayhawk and leaving the Memphis reference out all together. I like it.
Yes Manning!!!
Yes Garret!!!
Texas Tech has only 13 point from the field in the first half.
UNC beats Louisville by 1...
Apparently we have plenty of that...
UK escapes in double OT for the second OT game in a row...KenPom will probably drop them from the top 10...:)
KU has beat the Vegas line already...
double OT
I am watching with fingers crossed, Tied with 6.1
Devonte looks like a little kid...
Siberia??? Did they get on Putin's bad side??? :):):)
In overtime now...
