The NCAA is all about matchups, momentum, talent and a whole lot of luck. UMBC turned out to be the hit shooting team that I predicted could beat Virginia and a bad matchup that played its best game of the year or the program’s history. It could repeat against KSU but I doubt it can play a second game as well as it played agains Virginia.
With Ayton KU would have been a heavy favorite...or even Preston...
Porter did not help himself playing this late and not looking good. He will now move to the NBA having won zero games in college; no wonder he was crying at the end of the game.
I bet Ayton was also crying thinking why did I not pick Kansas?
TCU gave the game away to Syracuse...
Florida State abusing Missouri 42-20 at the half, 7 points from FTs and only 13 from the field for MU.
I am sure lots of brackets busted.
KSU was handed a gift, a team with a victory hangover.
Virginia destroyed by 20...historical day in NCAA. ACC in mourning.
Virginia’s defense is MIA.
2 Virginia starters have yet to score, that is a pretty pathetic offense.
I said before the tourney that Virginia might run into a hot shooting team and lose. Looks like UMBC might be the hot shooting team.
Virginia down 14 points with 16 minutes left.
I bet Dixon is looking pretty good right now...
I always get a laugh when a coach that was fired due to poor results is hired somewhere else as the answer. The Chief hired Hem Edwards who had an overall loosing record and expected to win, but at least he had a few decent seasons; Romeo Crennel on the other hand had one winning season in 4 years and a 0.375 winning record and the Chiefs though he could be a winning coach? SMH.
I read that late last night. One man’s ceiling is another one’s floor...so true for coaches in general.
I hear analyst saying KU has the toughest game for a #1 seed in SHU...and so was the first game. I don’t get why some posters are assuming SHU will play a perfect game and KU will not. KU has to play a perfect game to win only if SHU does as well and there are no assurances it will. FiveThirtyEight gives KU a 78% chance of winning ↗, SHU should be a lot more worried than KU.
I keep reading about the size SHU has and I just don’t see it. Yes, they have 6’10” Delgado that is a load and averages 30 mpg, but after that they have Nzei and Sanogo at at 6’8” that play double digit minutes; their other big, MamukenashvillI at 6’10” averages less than 10 minutes. Rodriguez will be the toughest one to guard and at 6’5” can be a load but is playing with one questionable wheel; maybe a job for Garret?
Very sad day indeed. I lost a good friend and coworker.
Perhaps not dead but on life support. Miller did no do himself any favors with this loss; much easier to fire a coach after such a poor showing. Think about it, Arizona was ranked #3 pre-season and #2 in the fourth week...quite a long fall since then.
He really improved from year to year. Could be a good 1 year addition.
I read UConn and Pitt were making a strong push for him.
All 3 PAC 12 teams gone...this has to be the worst showing by a Power 5 conference ever; could not even win the 2 play-in games.
Arizona was beotch slapped by Buffalo in one of the more p embarrassing losses and the program has now officially replaced Missouri as the new dumpster fire.
KU was Lucky? Penn was lucky to hang with KU as long as it did. KU played a crappy 13 minutes in the first half and finished the half on a 22-5 run including a 19-2 stretch. It dominated the second half except for a short stretch where it let up and then coasted to a 16 point win beating the 14 point spread.
KU got the bad game out of its system and will play much better tomorrow and win again.
It is $10M that apparently they do not have and the state legislature said they will not pay either. In any case, it appears that there is an upcoming NCAA report that will outline program violations under his watch that will justify the firing for cause. Ollie was a poor choice and he was hired based largely because of his legacy status.
I know, just being sarcastic.
Miami, first team to be upset. Loyola has a good chance with Sister Jean on the sideline.
Mitch had a good game, 9 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks.
Delgado 2 points, 0 rebounds, 1 turnover.
I know, just giving you a hard time...
2 point game...
Squeaky called, he said when you try harder you don’t need to compliment the other team.
If Iona could shoot wide open shots and layups it could be giving Duke a game.
Their big guy inside got away with a lot of assorted violations.
I saw that Penn was the highest ranked #16 seed in the last 6 years and several analysts in various networks are calling them the best #16 ever...maybe...they surely did no play like the typical #16 seed most of the first half.
Hopefully this is the bad game of the tournament for KU.
According to live ESPN predictions, KU with 92% chance of winning.
FWIW, Obama picked Michigan State so at least we are not jinxed like in years past.
Ok. Situation back to normal...
Told ya...
Here we come...
Surely KU cannot shoot this poorly the entire game. Do like they did agains WVU, penetrate and draw fouls.
Wichita State fans surely must have tampered with the rim, how else can you explain this poor shooting?
No rebounding from KU at all...
And all this time I thought kids went to school to get a degree and played sports on the side...silly me.
Thanks.
Can't fill bracket anymore. I had family in town for the last week visiting for my father's 93rd birthday and I have not been able to do much. By the time I got around to get to ESPN it was tool late. :disappointed:
FWIW, Doke is also game time decision.

Ask UConn how it worked out for them...
Let’s hope Zenger is not the one in charge of selecting the next basketball coach.
Kevin Ollie’s record as a HC is pretty poor. His second year he had best season when he finished 12-6 and tied for 3rd in the American Atlantic Conference and lucked out into the National Title with players he inherited. With his own players his best finish is tied for 5th and not a single one of his recruits has made it to the NBA.
He was fired “for cause” which he is contesting and it will get messy. Connecticut Legislature has already indicated they will not provide money to pay his buyout if he prevails. Too bad he could not be fired for poor performance.
