@kjayhawks

The point is that you said you would avoid graduate transfer and compare them to regular transfers who they are not. I would definitely consider graduate transfers since they would likely be better player that the 2 or 3 star players KU has been getting. KU needs any help it can get.

@Texas-Hawk-10

No, regular first or second year players that don’t cut it at a big program and transfer having tonsit one year are quite different than capable upperclassmen that graduate and have one year of eligibility left and just want to start that one last year.

Charlot was one year WR that could not cut it at Alabama and was converted to safety at KU. Baldwin a JuCo player transfer kicked off the program at Alabama in his first year at that program...neither a quality graduate transfer.

Brennan Greene Arrested • Feb 10, 2018 09:23 PM

@mayjay

I have to agree with @HighEliteMajor, the law is the law is the law, draconian or not. As a lawyer try to argue a case in front of a competent judge (not a touchy, feely one) that your client broke the law but the law is unfair and see how it works out for you. Laws must be enforced as they are and not as you wish they were. Doing otherwise starts a slippery slope where anarchy is the logical end since people would be free to choose which laws they obey and which they ignore.

If the amount Greene was caugh falls in the category of distribution, regardless of whether you think is fair or not, then he should be charged accordingly. Greene lived in Kansas for several years and probably knew the law and consequences and even if he did not, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

“Don't do the crime if you can't do the time, you can take dat to da bank and dat‘s the name of dat tune” - Anthony “Tony” Baretta.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Players from Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and others that are not good enough to start at those programs would be stars at KU.

How is this year’s roster working out for King James? With all the money Cleveland spent it should have more than on title, instead he has become the least favorite athlete in all sports and fellow players don’t like him either; ask former Jayhawk Chalmers how he liked being openly treated like crap by King James. He might be one of the more gifted athletes ever but he is also one of the bigger jerks of all time.

You seem to ignore the fact that after he left Cleveland the first time he basically has dictated not only the players with whom he will play but also the coaching staff, more so in Cleveland than Miami where Pat Riley kept some control; in Cleveland he runs the show. Remember he sent former Jayhawk Wigging to the Wolves so he could get Love and he chased away Kyrie as well, a trade that really hurt Cleveland but boosted his ego. Do you think that the current trades were done without his approval? If you do, I have some waterfront property in a Florida I can sell you. He has had the teams he assembled and has no one to blame for their failure. He might be the gratest freak athlete, I personally think that would be Wilt, but it does not make him a nice person...or a good manager.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 09, 2018 06:02 AM

@drgnslayr

I am not sure there is one answer but a combination of many. The OAD is now a full business and kids are now looking for the fastest way to the League and college basketball has been fully disrupted.

More importantly, there is so much parity in the sport because quality college seniors can perform as well or better than OADs. Teams like Texas Tech. with a bunch of unheralded but experienced and quality players can now compete with teams with better but inexperienced players. Some of the better players we have had at KU were not highly ranked but developed into outstanding players by their junior and senior years.

To me, the only solution is to get rid of the OADs and revert players to being students first and athletes second. If a prospect is good enough to go pro after HS, let him do It but if he chooses college then he needs to wait 3 years so at least he has most of a college degree under his belt that he can complete if pro sports don’t work; it is fair to both, the student athlete and the school.

Great get for KU. The kid sounds like the perfect system player that will produce for more than a couple of years and his statement shows a pretty level headed and thoughtful individual. Good athlete, good person, I like him.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 09, 2018 04:27 AM

St. John’s that started conference 0-11 beat Duke and Villanova, Michigan State barely got by 3-11 Iowa and now sits in third place in the Big 10, Arizona that is in first place in the PAC 12 trails UCLA by 10 in the second half, 20 something ranked a UNC just beat Duke which is now in 3rd place in the ACC and 4-1/2 games behind Virginia, UK sits in 4th place and 3 full games behind leader Auburn...while KU still sits in 1st place in the toughest conference and fans continue to complain.

Any team can beat any other team this season...as we know it all too well. March madness might end up being a gauntlet for the top teams. This might be the year when it is better to fly under the radar.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 08, 2018 06:30 PM

@BShark

Yep. Both Porters as well as young, Burke, Cauley-Stein, Ojeleye, Tillmon, Nirn, Milton just of the top of my head.

Kevin Durant has now partnered with them so they will only get bigger. Getting a MoKan/Nike player would be nice.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 08, 2018 06:21 PM

You would think that getting Agbaji would be a very good get and maybe the beginning of the end of the recruitment of Langford. As the expression goes a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 08, 2018 06:11 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

I was thinking the same thing. KU lost several decent players over the years because of MoKan.

Big 12 Basketball Commit Tracker • Feb 08, 2018 06:10 PM

Every year is the same story...This is the best Teams Texas so far...and yet, they always manage to underwhelm. You have heard the expression ...It’s Not the Gun, It’s the Shooter? in this case it is not as much the team as it is the coach which is the common denominator and all below average recent seasons even when they had lots of talent.

K-Sate should be better withe the team returning most players but this assumes that Weber does not lose a few players as he normally does.

OU without Young will regress big time unless it finds an elite PG which is unlikely.

Has Carter be been given tenure at WVU so he can play forever? At least Perry has some hair left when he left KU. I would not be surprised to see Konate leave. Losing Carter and Miles, the two top players will hurt big time.

ISU will be greatly improved with experienced players and a couple of solid transfers.

Tech. loses 3 starters including conference POY candidate Evans. This is the perfect storm season for them since they will drop next season.

TCU loses Brodziansky and Williams, the top two scores and experienced seniors so they will take one step backwards.

Baylor loses 4 starters, Lecomte, Acuil, Omot and Maston and yet they keep Drew...step back for them.

OSU loses starters Carrol, Smith and Solomon. Unless they have a good class coming they will remain a bottom half team.

I have factored mostly the players leaving and not what they have coming since departing senior starters will usually be better than incoming raw freshmen..

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 08, 2018 05:25 PM

@BShark

If he is planning to contribute as a freshman the KU is probably not the place where he wants to go, wouldn't you agree?

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 07, 2018 10:04 PM

Svi had the lowest usage of any player that played yesterday at 5.6%, the next lowest was TCU's J.D. Miller at 11.8%; the next lowest KU players were Newman at 15.9% and Lightfoot at 16.9% which gives an idea of few times Svi was involved in the game plan; Doke had the highest at 32.1%.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 07, 2018 09:40 PM

@BeddieKU23

The conference would have to have upsets of biblical proportions for KU to drop from 1 to 7, it is just not happening, so it is 3 games at the most in the Conference Tournament.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you feel about it, it will probably be pleaded down since pot possession does not seem to be what it once was, several states do not even consider it a crime anymore. He will probably pay a fine for the other violations and will go on some sort of diversion program.

Too bad he appears to be throwing his life away, He could stay in the business, perhaps not as a player but as an instructor; after all, he has one of the best shooting forms I have seen; heck, he could be teaching Doke and Garret how to shoot.

If he is at odds with Coach Self and does not want to come back, his best option is the G League or overseas. I really believe a transfer is out of the question...but I could be wrong.

Pro Jayhawk updates • Feb 06, 2018 06:05 PM

Arthur made a rare appearance and had a decent line. Oubre still playing great and although he is coming off the bench, he is playing starter minutes; great but quiet season.

@HighEliteMajor

Unless he is graduating and can do a graduate transfer, he would have to sit one year to play one year which places him 2 years away from the NBA. Under the current circumstances I just don’t see him transferring when he can come back to a team that will have serious Final Four potential.

Trae Young Mania • Feb 06, 2018 05:42 PM

@Jayballer54

I agree that the on top of the backboard basket was a fluke and not planned; to say it was intended that way is beyond stupid. His late turnover, when he tried to take on the entire WVU defense was a poor play when he should have passed to any of the other players that were wide open. After the last play of the game he seemed shocked that nothing was called...hello, nothing needed to be called...

No doubt he is one the more exciting players in recent memory but all the adulation by the press, particularly ESPN, is turning people off, the same way it has worked for players like LeBron, Curry and Durant among others.

It's NOW or Never.... • Feb 06, 2018 04:51 AM

@drgnslayr

There is no question that when you put it in context, it is an extremely difficult thing to do and KU's streak might never be broken. If KU can get #14, hopefully #15 will be easier with a loaded team next season.

I always wondered why some people, including some KU fans, play down the magnitude of the achievement. All the knowledgeable announcers and analysts always mention the streak as a very special achievement regardless of sport.

Trae Young Mania • Feb 06, 2018 04:30 AM

Only 1 assist, and it was almost at the end of the game, to go along with his 6 TOs. 20 stories on Young on the main ESPN College BBall page before I quit scroll down. Starting to get sick and tired of all the slobbering over Young by ESPN.

Moore had a solid freshman year and has one year learning the system. I am not saying the he will be the starter all season but it would not surprise me if he starts a few games until Dotson is used to playing Division I.

It's NOW or Never.... • Feb 06, 2018 03:37 AM

@wissox

Why would you think that? UCLA streak happened in a time where a dozen program dominated basketball and UCLA had talent superior to the other programs. Because of parity, it is now considerably more difficult to win conference titles let alone string several in a row. During KU’s 13 year streak do you know how many conference titles other program have won?

  • Duke - 2 and not in a row
  • Kentucky - 5 including 1 by Tubby and no consecutive titles
  • UNC - 8 total with longest streak being 3
  • Indiana - 0
  • Villanova - 5 with longest streak being 5 (current)
  • Louisville - 4 with longest streak being 2
  • UConn - 2 with longest streak being 2, 11 years ago
  • Michigan State - 3 with longest streak being 2, 8 years ago
  • Florida - 4 with longest streak being 2
  • Arizona - 5 with longest streak being 2
  • UCLA - 4 with longest streak bein 3, 8 years ago
  • Wisconsin - 2 and not in a row
  • Gonzaga - 12 with longest streak since the KU streak started being 7, although it goes to 11 if you go back another 6 years. Current streak is 5. Gonzaga’s titles were in a mid-major conference with basically one other decent team.

As you can see, winning even 2 major conference titles in the current era is difficult enough, stringing 13 in a row is something that only KU has done and in my opinion, a much greater feat than UCLA.
