KU Buckets T-Shirts β€’ Oct 21, 2014 02:34 AM

Dragon-I am impressed. Would you put the kubuckets.com on the same side? Or if different sides-which front versus back?

How about this-What will be the number of years ku buckets has accumulated in fan years is?

100 users average 20 years is 2,000 years of Jayhawk Fandom?

KU.BUCKETS.COM. 2,000 years of ku fans/knowledge can't be wrong.

KU Buckets T-Shirts β€’ Oct 21, 2014 01:07 AM

I was thinking the site logo with Naismith holding the ball with the red KU and kubuckets, com below it. This would not be a money making venture but I am wary of this kind of trouble. I also thought of a Jayhawk and kubuckets.com but maybe that is even risky.

I would it think there isnt any risk in a simple "ku.buckets.com" line across a shirt, or hat, or bumper sticker. I offered to kick in some cash before.
Maybe I should just make a few hats and give them away to the site guys and a few ku kids and place a few adds in the UDK and LJW announcing our site?

(The printers told me a t-shirt with a collar is called a polo and is embroidered). But hey, I think we should give these out to approx/bskeet and designated web site studs regardless.

Please-anyone feel free to shoot down, add on, or let me know your opinions.

Sign me up for Olivia's outfit. I will pay for the cost if Jason can talk her into wearing it during halftime at a KU home game. Proceeds would be split between Olivia's & HCBS favorite charities. All. Kubuckets.com ask is a long carpet. With our name on the floor as she walks across it.

Or are hats or bumper stickers a better idea?

KU Buckets T-Shirts β€’ Oct 20, 2014 05:19 PM

Recently the idea of KU Buckets T-Shirts came up, so I did a little legwork and was approached about running with the idea. So, is there enough interest?

A T-shirt would run about $8 plus shipping/handling. How many of you would buy one?

Is a polo shirt the better way to go? My best guess is $25 each.

I don't follow the NBA with the exception of reading about a Jayhawk doing well. That said, I am tempted to go to a Rockets game next week just to cheer him on (I'd be in KU Gear.) I will always be thankful he came to KU after he graduated but even more than that he set an example for his bBall peers to graduate. RCJH TARIK!!!

Having cut and paste issues with "Shaft" trailor. But check it out if you have a minute. "Shaft" was cool.

Dumping your chopper on a basketball court. Ugly.

Didn't Bill Self ride a chopper in the "most interesting man" video. I wonder if Tubby's people were trying a stunt to build on that. It's not that I dislike him, but it ended up a funny, and as my kids would say "major fail"

In my best Issac Hayes voice, with Shaft music playing,,,

SMITH, can you fix it???

@JayhawkRock78 dang! I want so much for coach Bowen and kids to see some success!!

We only trailed by 6 a lot of the game. We also had a couple of bad breaks, but is have to tell you, despite these last two losses I believe the program took a step forward with Bowen. I like the enthusiasm I see on the field and on the sidelines.

We were in the game most of the way. This is the second game I've had a good feeling about our interim coach and the players.

I for one think Wilt had a problem with his math when it came to women. I would believe 2,000, not 20,000.

As for his jumps, he had the advantage of a high center of gravity. There are high jumpers that are 6' 8", and 6" 10, but on average the best seem to be 6" 2" to 6' 5"

Ranking the Big 12 Coaches. β€’ Oct 17, 2014 02:07 AM

IMHO I think,Tubby,at UK and,Prince at,KSU football mirrored each, other. Very.difficult,to,measure up to,the.former, coach in a program with success. I don't think either coach was kissing butt with the alums with money. KSU's program in football does not go back beyond Snyder but it is really fresh on the minds of such alums, and if you lose and don't kiss butt you are toast,

As for a Tubby he was winning. But not enough ( and since he didn't work the crowd) important alums he sealed his own fate.

Royals v O's game 4 β€’ Oct 16, 2014 01:53 AM

Brooks,
My father often said, the older he got, the smarter his dad got.

Congrats Royals. And a shout out to dad-you must be smiling up there.. All those games you listened to the Royals on the radio working in the garage on weekends. The I-70 series. And best yet your night in the Buck O'Neil seat.

Big Dipper β€’ Oct 15, 2014 10:20 PM

Sadly, my last dunk was in 1989. The 70's and 80's were good to me-I even had hair back then.

Royals v O's game 4 β€’ Oct 15, 2014 09:23 PM

@globaljaybird I told my son last night I thought some of those pitches were just below his knees, but as you know sometimes one has to adjust ones games to a refs calls that game.

Big Dipper β€’ Oct 15, 2014 07:28 PM

If you remember Travis Releford's dunks, sometimes he would palm the ball from the side, get clearance of the ball over the rim and then throw it down. I'd say 99% of slam dunks are done with the hand above the ball, but if you have big hands you can dunk holding the ball halfway up as long as the bottom of the ball clears the rim. Looking at where his hand is in the still shot of that picture above and you can see what I mean.

Big Dipper β€’ Oct 15, 2014 04:28 PM

Here is a little bit of fudge factor on a vertical jump. To get the base height established, not every athlete will truly reach and stretch 100 percent while standing there. If you don't lower your outside shoulder which rotates your other shoulder up a few inches, you can pick up a few inches in the differential of the actual jump. Most shorter Dunkers lower the outside shoulder not only for balance but it elevates the dunking shoulder a bit and therefore the hand is a bit higher as well.

By the way, jf2- Great read on that link. Thanks.

Big Dipper β€’ Oct 14, 2014 10:15 PM

@jaybate-1.0
Loved what you wrote, I just have to add one small exception to your 12' 10" comment.
Not saying Wilt didn't have his hands on top of the ball or OVER the ball which would make it even higher than 12' 10", but some of us shorter guys used two hands at the side of the ball, so to clear 12", with hands on each side of the ball 1/2 way, a dunk can be made with finger tips at 12' 6". So, the top of the ball is still 12' 10", the highest point of the athlete at 12" 6".

Just a tidbit about Wilt and the high jump- in the 70's his 6' 6" jump was still good enough for the KU All Time list.

Modern weight lifting has changed a thing or two. The track team weight men in the 70's could out jump some of us in the vertical using two legs. but running in with several steps and jumping off one foot the weight men were no where near the jumpers.

IMO, Jordan and Wigs can easily do it from a running start and one leg, and maybe even standing still off two legs.

Uniform Mess Defines Weiss' Jayhawks β€’ Oct 12, 2014 03:48 AM

I like what I've seen and heard so far in this interim coach. I stated we needed to be working hard in the background and keep our cards close to the chess. Still, it seems we have made some good progress. If this continues I think we can win a couple of more games this season and I'm all for keeping him as HC.

Losing Conference... Winning National β€’ Oct 09, 2014 02:41 PM

I was a bit spoiled as a track athlete as in time and distance is not subjective. My high school football coach was a math teacher (and hall of fame coach) who made it clear to us that the transitive law does not apply to sports. Since I can't remember jack, I will add a refresher as he spelled it out-but in big12 sports language - KU > KSU, KSU > Baylor, doesn't mean KU > Baylor.
(Cut to Yoda voice-Always in motion is the future..). Other than maximizing profits this is why I like NBA and MLB having a series to determine championships. Winning six games straight for the title is REALLY hard, as is winning it all in the NFL or NCAA bBall.
I for one think it we had a best of three (or five) series in NCAA- BBALL, KU would have many more titles. And I still feel there is luck with a matchup or a bad or good bounce.

Losing Conference... Winning National β€’ Oct 07, 2014 07:11 PM

Success begets success. Championships are HARD to come by at any level including high school school and club athletics. Not every kid has confidence and being a part of a winning team does a lot to enforce an athletes belief in himself and the team. (Case in point-ku bBall vs football.)
Luckily for the ku bBall program our athletes are elite and have proved themselves many times over by the time they put on a ku uniform. Winning the conference builds confidence in the team and a high seed in March. I for one prefer a big 12 title over a team with no title and a chip on the shoulder. I think doubt can lurk in the minds of some with losses. I've said before losing Embid lost a near lock to the final four last year. In other years we've just let it slip through our hands (Michigan) or underperformed (VCU) we have to remember there is a lot of parity these days. That said, We should have at least one more if not two NCAA titles under our belts

Kansas Dorm of the Future... β€’ Oct 07, 2014 06:28 PM

@drgnslayr
I have a big 8 champ track ring from the 70's that looks just like it sans diamonds and "brown". It's one of my favorite possessions-mostly because it represents many years of hard work to get there.-still I only wear it on special occasions.

Best case and worst case. β€’ Oct 07, 2014 06:18 PM

Angels v Royals--Game 3 β€’ Oct 06, 2014 03:26 AM

Sweet win-I was happy they showed Bill Self happy in the crowd.

George Brett was,REALLY HAPPY to see them win. Go Royals.

Wow,
Most of the items listed here were never on the menu in the 70's.
Still, the training table (located in the Jayhawk Towers Basement) was the best food around at the time-and guys did bulk up-just not nearly efficient as today's programs, and now we see much better athletes as a result.

My kids and I got a tour of this facility a few months ago. Very impressive.

I sure wish we had HUDY know how back in the day. They had a lot of things backwards-tons of work and sweat that didn't pay off.

My best guess is they can use them to remind them of schedule reminders, priorities, etc. And maybe the occasional pump-up video/highlights-as for the latter they'd need to be the same or have them use headphones. Still pretty sweet.

I still remember the silverfish in the Memorial Stadium Footlockers. the indoor track season was in AFH, and was just like a high school gym locker back in the day. No complaints though-we were happy to be there.

Thanks so much. We are a KU/KSU family but 800 miles away. It is really a LONG way from home- but it's nice for him to have in his back pocket and plane trips could be a lot easier to justify now. We put some effort to involve KU in the process including visits and a summer camp there. Nice to believe they took us/my son seriously.

I am thinking we have a better than 50% chance another Jayhawk will be in our family.

Okay-read a bit more on this. As a player he knew about a heart valve issue and went in for ANOTHER issue, and things went south quickly and they had to scramble to put in a pacemaker-the last procedure was to put in batteries.

PHOF, but that's nothing for you Mr. Jaybate.

I don't know if Wikipedia is reliable, but it shows KU's endowment has more than a billion than KSU has. Even it it is a 10th of that. Say a hundred million more. I once read that a KSU alum hit a big lottery in western Kansas and threw 30 million in to fix KSU football. So if we have money why can't we dig ourselves out of this hole as if a couple of million here and there aren't available?

Great call. Another tip-off is "yes" is two syllables. When I first moved here I refused to,say "ya'll". The second move here included my children and they picked it up,in school fairly soon so I bought into it.

Houston's regional population has almost doubled the past 7 years so you don't hear think southern accents so often these days. It's been a long time since I've heard anyone tell me they were "fixin' to do something.

I'm not sure-the way I remember it there was a lot of stress and that the doctors thought he should get away from the NBA. But then again I may be having memory issues.
