The mayor has heart problems-that's why he left the NBA. He isn't going anywhere.
Pretty funny. At the end he plays something different and they join the chorus.
@nuleafjhawk
The next time you go on a drive like that, get the "Round-up" CD by the Cincinnati Pops.
It is outstanding. It has the best Cowboy Movie Songs and TV shows ever. It's even got Frankie Lane singing a few including RawHide. As for Western Songs, The Magnificent Seven will always be my favorite
Yep, a cow in sunglasses is cool. Never tipped a cow-by the time I heard about it I was over the hill.
Where in Texas. Just like Kansas, some parts look better than others.
loads of memories with your posts. I remember my grandfather watching Harold. "Gone fisin", instead, of just, a-wishin'"
If Bowen can win two or three games I would be tickled crimson and blue. Here is a nice read if someone can help with the link.
@Crimsonorblue22
One of my buddies has two boys at KU. Maybe I could convince them to wear a KUbuckets.com T shirt to a game.
AND,
Just because we have an interim doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking hard right now. I hope we are holding our cards close to our chest.
@Kip_McSmithers
I for one think our football program is embarrassing, so yes to compete with SMU for a Football coach is embarrassing as well. Perhaps it is because they have deeper coffers?
@nuleafjhawk
They go into hiding as it the winter is unbearable.
They go into hiding as if the winter is unbearable.
@JayHawkFanToo
While my sisters in KC are Royal & chiefs fans, one is such a KSU homer she and her husband refuse to wear red or blue clothes.
@approxinfinity
Sent you a chat- I have a connection for t-shirts-let me try.
@RedRooster
Thanks for starting my day off with numerous laughs.
I have two ideas.
Start a T-shirt thread and have viewers go on record they will buy one. (I will-heck I will donate $ to this site without a T-shirt.)
Have someone place two simple "Kubuckets.com" signs on ku bBall game day. One near the student entrance, and one near the main entrance. I would do it myself but I live.800 miles away.
My memory must be off.i need to check this out.
I was in Dallas at the game and when Marshall went down from. Flagrant Foul-NOTHING WAS CALLED. that fouled ended his career and as I recall our coach was in tears knowing that was the case.
Danny didn't show up that game but that's okay he totally delivered two years later in KC against Oklahoma when we got the NCAA title in 1988.
Back in the day (1970's) JUCO was for kids who weren't good enough for Div 1 yet, or had academic challenges, or maybe borderline money problems OR hadn't matured yet. I would guess most JUCO kids with size/speed/athleticism today can outperform a high school grad-maybe even a college frosh or soph/ but then the stud high school recruits leave the JUCCO kids in the dust as they develope. Sure, some JUCCO kids are late bloomers, but not many.
Maybe we can grab another Snyder assistant at KSU. His coaching tree is all over our conference.
Put em on double secret probation and give SvI a secret password for his fans.
Thanks-I will be sure to look at it tomorrow.
Hey JFBC.
If you've had a tough day I have a nice distraction I go to some times.
You Tube-Late Nite at the PHOG. Dream on Video. Nine minutes of sweet KU memories-some predating my KU days which are really cool.
@DanR
Yes-they all want wins, but the "w" would be the deliverable.
Unfortunately the contracts are already set as previously stated, and KU has paid dearly for this system in the football world.
Meanwhile, Bill Self came in and has earned TWO big contracts based on wins and titles.
@wissoxfan83
LMAO mister out of the box!
Yes, it's hard to believe we've just dug a bigger financial hole as we've gone along. The new TV contract took us from something like 13 million a year to 21 or 22 million a year. I would like to see half of the increase go to fixing the football program.
Mangino and Leach were victims of the wussification of the USA, and unbelievably in one of the most masculine testosterone out of your ears sports in the world. So, firing Magino was our fist mistake in my mind.
Second, not to go deep in our pockets and throw enough money at someone proven out of the gate. (I heard Texas offered 10 million to Nick Saban which he turned down). I think you might get a proven guy to change schools with a million dollar a year raise.
At this point we are desperate, and I just wonder if there is someone out there like a Mack Brown who wants another challenge or wants a change. I've left jobs for a change/challenge before.
Nice read Y'all.
In fact I enjoy reading all y'all.
Translation for Northerners who haven't moved south.
Y'all can be one person or more than one person you are speaking with or a group. Y'all lost to Texas.
All y'all, short for all of y'all includes everyone. All y'all are welcome to the BBQ.
And yes, they mix and match it' so you just let it slide. You guys get that?
Football is the key to most successful college programs and boy did Snyder work a miracle.
Do you know that KSU is about to start another huge building project? This one is 65 million.
Visit Manhattan and you'll find a bunch of new hotels around town. They are selling out a big stadium, selling gear, etc. Some would like the bball program to move up, but the mentality and money in college athletics is in Football.
We are lucky to have the bball program we do, but it can't continue to carry the weight by itself in the long term. We are lucky to be part of the TV money the Big 12 is passing out.
So I don't mind KU throwing extra money at a proven BCS coach. I can't believe with gave two 5 year contracts with guaranteed money back to back. Maybe our interim coach can make some noise, but if he doesn't lets come up with enough money to get the right people here, and limit the contract to two or three years. Do your magic with your formula and get the program back on its feet. "If you build it, they will come." Coaches-Athletes-Fans-infinity.
I Agee we've been paying a million per win, but I'm not in favor of paying a million for a cupcake mid major win. I would bet there are a lot of coaches that would settle for a million dollars a year for a dismal season of one significant win.
I know I'm stating the obvious, but six wins/year minimum is the mentality needed to consider this program close to par for the course.
But at the end of the day I would be happy to see us pay a coach MILLIONS per year, one year contracts with our option to fire or pay him more the next year with bonus money tied to conference wins.
When Nolan Cromwell left the pro coaching ranks to take an assistant coaching job at Texas A&M I thought here is KU's next head FB coach ready and waiting for the right timing to take over the KU football program. But he left A&M quickly to move back to take another assistant coaching role with the pros. I get the feeling he doesn't want to coach & recruit at the college level. I hope I'm wrong. I knew Nolan in college and he is tops in character, let alone athleticism. And he's coached athletes on at least two two Super Bowl championship teams -
I believe he could be the answer. He even owns a farm somewhere near Lawrence.

Truly you are correct. For much of the conference season, you need to be two deep for Saturday Monday games, given the ebb and flow of injuries and flu.
But in the tourney, when the level of competition ratchets up the final notch, going two deep is often a luxury one cannot afford to exercise, or does so only sparingly.
Recall that Self only used Aldrich significantly once in the 08 ring post season. But it was crucial to have him there when he was needed.
The fantastically high level of talent in the tourney after the first round means you mostly have to play through your best 7, often just your best five.
But the fascination of the game is that there remain a few situations where some one between 8th and 1oth on the depth chart has to come in an play the game of their life for you.
Its part of the great inherent drama of the game.
I had great seats at the 2008 UNC-KU game and remember being nervous when Aldrich went in. He took his game up a level and then some-talk about quality minutes from the bench when we needed it. He delivered.

I agree the,uniforms are a gimmick. I don't care for gimmicks.
I don't care for some of the bBall unis either-remember those camos-and those terrible lime green Baylor unis?
@globaljaybird
OUSTANDING,POST. To your point, we have people living below the poverty line living in decent homes or apts with cable, color tv, microwave, car, etc. with plenty of food to eat at that. Responsibility to your children-I never heard my grandparents or parents ever say that phrase but their priorities and actions said that phrase in bright lights.
What I meant by,"white" was I worked and lived in a white neighborhood so when I went door to door asking for work or selling Watkins Vanilla bottles or collecting for UNICEF, people answered the door. I think I had an advantage as times were different and people felt safe answering the door. I will still answer the door for anyone, but my wife seldom does. She doesn't feel safe and unfortunately I think a lot of people don't. It's too bad. Most charity came from churches early on at a personal level-and teaching someone to fish as you pointed out was the goal. The Govt method perpetuates dependence, and I have a distant relative working the system. It burns me up.
Double D I would love to hear your story.. I am white but here I go.
My parents were poor but fortunately from a close family with six great-aunts who would give my father odd jobs to help put food on the table beyond his job. My parents upgraded from a one bedroom trailer to a two bedroom trailer when I was 4 and there were six of us. When I was 8 they rented a house and as the only boy I got my own room. You can imagine how 3 sisters (one older) felt about that. Back in the day, about the only thing a girl could do was baby sit while I could roam the neighborhood and make money picking up dogsh*t, shoveling snow! etc. I wish we had a system where anyone could easily go make a few bucks within walking distance. I just learned to make a buck where I could, when I could after school and weekends after football and track practice. I have my first paycheck stub from painting at our local pool.
65 cents an hour (gross) on weekends before summer started.
I believe we all deserve the chance to make a buck in a bunch of ways just like that- but the work isn't next door and some don't go look for it. There is a gray area I can consider unjustice for some ethnic groups who seem caught in a losing cycle of poverty and government dependence, but I also consider some think they are entitled for a handout and work the system rather that lift themselves up.
One of my favorite movies is "Dave". He runs a temp agency and ends up as a substitute president. He comes up with a jobs bill where everyone who wants a job can have one. I would love that program in the country. Yes, you may start at the bottom sweeping trash, but it's a start-now you work your way up depending on the value you contribute.
Please forgive me if I'm missing something, I am a well paid OIl & Gas exec but it still pick up dogsh*t in my yard and take out the trash or give my kids allowance to to the same. I think we are on the same page. Please don't take offense if I missed something and let me know where I made the wrong turn.
I watch a lot of club basketball down here. Most of the best teams have two top guards getting a,ton of layups off a full court press.
That's a good one Nuleaf.
I doubt I am smart enough to raise more than one at a time but I've heard there is a need to get these dogs from A to B early on.
Love police/service dogs and am thinking once my kids are off to college maybe I raise them in pup times till they are ready to move to a fantastic cooperation with our service people. To think God was on top of things so much as to offer partnerships with dogs going back so far till today.
Thanks,
I want to clone her but my kids will be off to college soon and the wife doesn't like that she sheds. Maybe I can start with my relatives and go fri. There.
And she is a loving friendly dog everyone around loves. But I have 100% confidence if there is ever a threat she will be 100% after the bad guy.
I have a wonderful German Shepherd that alerts us anytime someone is around. She is ready for a piece of them when they come up to our home. If we open the door with a friendly tone she is relaxed. She even knows our car engines so well she perks up when they are 1/2 block away and waits at the door very happy. But if we aren't at ease like yelling out during a game on TV she comes running to double check on us, quiet. But ears up. I have never had so much confidence in a dog to protect my wife and kids,
I forgot about UTube. I was in Dallas for the game and the first thing I did when I got home from the game was look on my DVR to see what preceeded it. Not defending EJ for the smack but if you watch closely a minute or two before you will see EJ's defender blindside him by shoving into a very hard pick to McGary that gave him whiplash and would have sent many a player crashing to the floor out of control and hurt. I don't hate many athletes but I hate dirty plays and cheats and McGary and his team mate cooked that play up. I will always hate Mitch for that unless he has some Mother Teresa moment going forward.
I was there with my father. I remember with a couple of minutes left-I was thinking the only way we can win this is if we play perfect the rest of the game. When we hit the three at the buzzer I thought its over-this much momentum will carry us in overtime which did. That weekend in San Antonio will always be one of my best memories-and it isn't limited to KU memories either.
I took the time to read the comments-some were typical and some were funny.
My favorite was: Who would win a sumo wrestling match between Weis & Mangino.
The answer given was "gravity".
@ JF2
What a special memory for you. I have a similar one. My kids first trip to AFH was during the holidays a few years back-Many KU kids were out of town & we sat right above the chute the team runs in and out of. My daughter saw Withey dominate and fell in love with him and Jayhawk bball.

I read somewhere that if you are not easily found on Facebook you were not legit as a professional, and such a person might not have credentials or something to hide.
I for one have nothing to hide, but I think moving to a new location in a market I wasn't well known in has hurt me because of Facebook/internet. I was always on our company website but never set myself up with a personal page and I know others who didn't either.
I will say I was a bit of an expert in previously with 30 years under my belt-I miss Being the smartest guy in the room-but I am putting bread on the table for my kids.

The closest I came to a Mossman Guitar was a Mossman Guitar T-shirt I bought at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. Around 1980. At the time the hottest group performing there was named something like Dedannon-out of Ireland. I have their album somewhere. Now a red '66 corvette with white convertable top is high on my list.
