Oh no...who are we going to get to play that final minute?
Big news: the B12 announced their revenue for each team this year was 44 million dollars. I suspect expansion is coming pretty soon.
@mayjay said in Has Bill Self seen aliens?:
I have it on good authority that he was seen drinking with aliens at the Mos Eisley Cantina. Trying to recruit the ones with 4 arms. Don't know how much HCBS imbibed, but rumor has it he left there looking for Yoda to be a backup 5.
LMAO....ok, you win the internet today!
@mayjay said in Has Bill Self seen aliens?:
@Kcmatt7 I think he is an alien plant. Can anyone prove he isn't?
Indeed. Inquiring minds want to know. The truth is out there!
Bill Self was heard saying that Hunter Dickinson plays "out of this world". Could that be a veiled reference to an alien encounter? Has Bill Self made contact with aliens?

Let me just throw this out before we put this nonsense to rest. - -There is quite possibly other reasons for Bills face being so red for GOD'S sakes.
I know for a fact because I have this myself, sometimes worse then others and that's called Rosacea. It is a skin condition that can include your blood vessels .Rosacea can be cause from yes some drinking, but ALSO from STRRESS ( umm Hello ) -- the Sun can cause it to flare up - - Tension can cause it to flare up - - many reasons for it to flare up - -but just because his face gets red doesn't for sure mean he is an alcoholic , by any means - time to say Good Night on this, surely we can find better things to talk about

Most of "our guys" are also gone so I think it's hard them to be too upset about it. I'm certainly disappointed but still hope he has made a decision that will be good for him.
I was thinking Juan and KJ when I wrote that. I haven't asked them though, so you could be right.

Colorado and Az look like they'll be the first to jump to the B12.

You might be able to count on one hand the number of games that a starting line up that includes Harris, Morris, McCullar, KJ Adams, with Dickinson behind them gives up 70 points.
That line up could easily be Self's best defensive line up he's ever had.
The Patrick Ewing Georgetown teams come to mind. Of course, that was before the shot clock.
I think you're on to something. You could see him noticeably defer to JW on several occasions last year. I think having HD at the rim will allow him to fly all over the court.
Myself, I hope it's Juando/Morris/Timberlake/McCullar/Dickinson. But it will prob be : Juan/Morris/Kev/KJ/HD.
Juando/Morris/McCullar will be the best defensive guard trio in the country.

With this mornings news, new line up should be
G- Harris
G- Morris
F- McCullar
F- KJ Adams
C- Dickinson
Bench (Rotation level minutes)
G- Jackson
G- Timberlake
F- Marcus Adams
Deep Bench
G- Johnson
G- McDowell
F- Braun
A rotation quality 5 should be the final piece to this puzzle.
Ugh, I am likely the only one feeling this way, but with Kevin back that is an ugly ass, non shooting starting five. Dislike. Self has brought us back to the stone age of defensive stalwarts.
We desperately need a more modern approach to that lineup.
How many KU games did you watch last year? You wouldn't be saying that if you watched Kevin play.
Ha. Watched em all Jethro, like i've done basically since the 80s. Last year was last year. We have basically a new team this year, and we need different skills.
I was hoping for a true, volume shooter to help space the floor, give us a chance at making some 3s next year. that's all. Kevin is not that guy, but brings other skills. i appreciate his skills on defense, but he's not a good fit for this team offensively IMO. that's all.
We had 1 clutch player on this team last year. When you needed the dagger basket, you went to him, and he delivered. When we needed a stop, he found a way to deliver. WE weren't even the same team when he wasn't on the court- it was so obvious, it was ridiculous. He guarded the best player every freaking' night. There were many game night chats on here when we marveled at his performance. The kid is just flat a winner. So, that's why I asked if you'd actually seen a KU game last year. Because it's hard for me to imagine you didn't see that being a fan that "never misses a game". Kevin McCullar was our best player last year, period.

@benshawks08 said in Welcome Parker Braun!:
@Jethro I agree he’s probably our best option right now but I don’t think he’s the same LOCK for minutes that Juan, KJ, and Hunter are that would deter a quality player from joining the team.
Agreed. If they used Timberlake in the Remy role, it probably would be better in the long run. I am PRAYING they don't recruit Caleb Love, though. Surely they can see he isn't KU material.
Caleb, enjoy Kentucky! Stay away from here- you wouldn't like it here at all.

We're not going to get Prince Charming to play 7 minutes a game. We could do much worse. The guy can rebound, and shoots pretty good. He is an intelligent player, and a pretty good passer. Got a sweet little hook shot. Definitely unsexy add. I question the quality of what we can get for the other 2 slots. Obviously they're going with KJ at the 4, backed up by Marcus Adams. How many minutes will we have to cover on the 3/4? 10 to 12 max, right? We're not going to get a star that wants to play 5-10 minutes a game.
I'm all for Bill getting a guy who can score with a hook shot. Mitch was good for like 2 or 3 of those a game often in big moments.
I think there is a world where Self could sell a guy that there is still a starting spot at the 4 but to me it's really the 3 that is still up for grabs. Not sure Timberlake is a shoe in for starting spot. I'd assume one of Morris and Jackson will take the two. But I think there are a LOT of minutes up for grabs in that 3/4 spot. KJ is going to get 30 minutes but I'd imagine some of that would be at the 5 spelling Dickinson. So I'd say there are 20 minutes up for grabs at the 4 and all 40 at the 3. The competition for those minutes will be with Timberlake and Marcus Adams Jr, with Johnson and McDowell likely getting limited minutes as off ball guards at the 2/3. I could legitimately see signing a guy who could still play 25-30 minutes in an open competition with that bench group.
I guess it has to do with what you think of Timberlake. If you go Juan/Morris/__/KJ/Dick, then that's a lot of minutes out there. The difference this year that works in Timberlake's favor is that we have a 7'1" guy in the paint, versus a 6'5" guy last year, imo. Last year, we couldn't afford to make a mistake on the perimeter because it was going to be a throw down if they got past our guards. This year, we have options. Devonte wasn't the world's best defender but we didn't see it much because he had Doke for several years. I keep thinking Gradey wasn't the world's best defender last year, and we survived. If somehow miraculously we get Kev back, I could definitely see Timberlake coming off the bench. If not, I think he's our best option at the 3.

Had to land someone willing to ride the bench. It’s not a bad signing. Just not good. Wish it was a young guy with potential rather than this but it is what it is
Mitch Lightfoot. He'll get 7 minutes or less some games, and won't bat an eye. Plus, Mom will be at his games...
After a long search, we have finally replaced Mitch Lightfoot...with Parker Braun!

Not worried in the least. My question is where is KJ going to play? So, we have KJ, Timberlake, and Adams potentially at 4. Starting lineup of: Juando/Morris/ Timberlake/KJ/ Dickinson. El Marko and Adams coming off the bench. Why are we gnashing our teeth and pulling out our hair? That's a hell of a team.
There's only 3 front court players on the team right now. KJ has to be the starting 4 with the current roster composition because he isn't sitting behind Marcus Adams.
I also question who the starting 3 will be because I have serious doubts about Timberlake's defense being good enough to play 30 mpg for Bill Self, but starting Marcus Adams at the 3 also means you don't have a big man on the bench either. Self absolutely has to land a starting caliber 3 or 4 from the guys who withdraw from the draft otherwise front court depth will be a very major problem next season.
No doubt we need bench depth. But, we have 3 schollies available. I just don't think not getting Mgbako is going to be the death knell some seem to think.

Ok, what would stop Ernest from coming back in a year? Let's don't throw Momma from the train just yet.
@BigBad He blows a hole in your narrative, even considering your 75% number you pulled out of thin air. I would say Remy blows your theory out of the water, too. If there was ever an example of a player integrating into our system, it would be Remy. Not only was he the star of our team throughout the NCAA tournament, his block of Love's drive to the basket was one of the key moments that allowed us to win a national championship. To go from playing absolutely no defense, not learning any of our plays to becoming a star in the NCAA tournament was an incredible job by our coaching staff integrating Remy into our system.

The plus I see is Kansas won't have down years anymore. No more wondering and waiting for a window to have a great team. Each coming year will be National Champions or bust. How painful has it been going into a year knowing the team has a glaring weakness that inevitably will result in an early tourney ouster.
What proof do we have that Coach Self can navigate this many new guys? The key to his success has always been guys who have been in his system a few years. Self is EXTREMELY difficult to deal with for first year guys. Look how many freshman can't deal with him. Look how Remi had issues for a lot of his one year. It's always worked because it was a weeding out process that led to every year having a mentally strong team filled with guys who withstood it all.
People are looking at all the incoming guys and assuming they will all be great. Self's history proves that about 75% of newcomers will either struggle with his demands and/or won't earn his trust enough to garner playing time. On top of that we now have only TWO guys left to help the new guys navigate it.
Of course it's possible Self truly has softened. I just don't believe it.
So, explain McCullar to me.

OUCH. Oh well, I wish him well at his future location.
In every university, there will always be voices that dislikes all things sports related. They resent the attention sports receives, and are generally against anything that progresses them. I remember having a professor in Latin that would go on and on about how sports should be eliminated at KU, how the university could take that money and enhance education, facilities, etc. So this isn't earth shattering to me. The good news is we'll win the battle in the end.
OMG- why couldn't we have him for just one more year?

He’s lived aprox 70 years this way - he’s not likely to change. He may say different things in public to protect his wallet, but people rarely if ever change. He may act better in public, but is that change for the better or deep resentment? I’d rather people wore their true colors on their sleeve, I’m tired of snakes in the grass. He’s easy to identify, that weirdo hotel manager that was sucking on patrons toes while they slept…yeeeeeikes
