@icthawkfan316 Heavy on the 'hates Missouri"...lol. I think she was gigging you with her question...lol.
@JayHawkFanToo If you read his interviews from last year, he experienced a lot of growth coming to Lawrence. I like to think it was a far better atmosphere.
@drgnslayr I certainly prefer the mobile Perry Ellis version more than the stationary version. He is playing all over the court, not sitting down in the low block, and I love it. Seems to open up his game.
@joeloveshawks I wonder if Coach doesn't start Cliff because of Kelly. Last game, it was abundantly clear that Cliff has earned a starting spot. It was also clear that Kelly is in mop up land. My thought is Coach is trying to let Kelly down easier by holding Cliff back some, until it becomes totally clear to all that Cliff needs to start. I know Kelly going to H-town during Katrina was a major step in his life, and so will toughening up, swallowing lots of pride, spending every waking second on getting better, and coming out of this major challenge a better player, and a better man. We'll see if he does better than CF.
@Hawk8086 We're more talented - they're more experienced. Can we play with the poise that is necessary to beat an Izzo team?
@globaljaybird Essentially, MSU has 3 vets ( Dawson, Trice, and Valentine) vs. Perry, Frank, and Wayne. Beyond that, we have worlds more depth than Sparty. The question is: can we limit their top 3? They scored at will against Marquette. I wish we were playing this game a month from now ...
OH MAN ...did you see it? Did you catch it? Did you see the new star? You know...the guy with the swag in the middle? You know who I'm talking about....the star of the Jayhawks ...the guy that had his coming out party today.....Mr. Alexander? A star is born. The leader of our team made an appearance today, and he was HUGE.
We are a different team when he is on the floor. I can't wait to see what he will do against Sparty...
@HighEliteMajor I get pissed at Frank a lot - I almost feel guilty bagging on him so much ...lol. It's like Tyshawn's shorter brother. even when he plays well, he still has some true brain dead- out of control moments every game.
@bskeet That's two good games in a row for Frank. 50% from the field, 5 assists, no turnovers, 12 points. Devonte had 10 points in 15 minutes off 2-2 shooting from the floor, and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Selden is doing it all, as the 4 dimes, along with the 7 boards and double digit points look very good. Perry looks energized - he is feeling it. We looked like a top 10 team this game, imho.
@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks. I'll record both games.
@wissoxfan83 Is that game on the tube today?
One of the blessings I count is being a KU fan. A nice win today would be the cherry on top of a great day. RCJHGKU.
@wissoxfan83 It's wild to me that G-Town played Florida last night, and they are both upcoming games for us on the schedule.
@Hawk8086 McConnell has to be in the running for most obnoxious player ever. He did several great Marcus Smart flopping impressions against the Grapes. He plays arrogant, so not surprising he would get the business from opposing fan bases.
@Hawk8086 I think we did. I know he has had two broken legs recently, so not sure if we backed off, and whether he just decided to go another way.
@HighEliteMajor Inquiring minds want to know. I have no idea who he will even start today.
Btw, off the subject, did you happen to catch Malik Pope of SDSU? O.....M.....G. 6'10 playing the 2/3? Here is basically a center playing out on the perimeter for the Aztecs. It was like a freak of nature, as the guy has all kinds of skills. You should've seen McConnell's eyes when he trying to pass over a 6'10 guy on the perimeter...lol...
@HighEliteMajor I think CF shook him up. I think Coach has a real good idea that Cliff and Oubre are OADs, and he is playing everyone else to limit potential transfers from the guys who've stuck around. By limiting the OAD minutes, he increases the chances they stick around( due to small numbers), and ensures those who aren't OAD won't transfer. Now, it also means the kiss of death for future recruits coming here if the current pattern holds up, so I don't hold out too much hope we come in with a late recruiting bonanza, especially when the info from that graph you shared gets circulated among the remaining recruits.
He's walking a real fine line right now. He doesn't want to give up his hi-lo, even when every freshman we get struggles with it. I was watching Stanley Johnson simply take over the game for AZ, and I contrast that with Oubre looking lost, and wow, what a difference.
@wrwlumpy Upvote for the Kardashian pic.
@ParisHawk Did anyone watch the AZ/Grapes match up? AZ was running one of the weirdest starting 5s I've ever seen. They ran McConnell ( Aaron Craft clone, only way more obnoxious) at PG, 3 forwards, and Tarc. They had Hollis-Jefferson ( 6'7" small forward ) at the 2. They were slow, cumbersome- they couldn't pass, they couldn't dribble, they had a hard time scoring. In short, they ran tall, and their offense sputtered, and they almost got beat. And Foster simply ran amok. I would be concerned about our passing, dribbling, ball movement with the "3 pointer" lineup, just like AZ did against the Liberaces.
He should've stayed at A & M, imo. He is on a very short leash, so the Iowa St win was essential for job security.
@JayHawkFanToo I don't think we played badly the 2nd half per se- I think it's more of a "we have this one in the bag, let's coast". I don't think the lead ever dropped below 25 points, so young team laying the whup to a team by 30 at half goes through the motions the 2nd half. I wouldn't read anything into the 2nd half.
@JayHawkFanToo Nice catch!!!! I was watching the Grapes vs Az, and they flashed the Purdue/Misery score...made me realize that Fizzou is piling up losses faster than even Jethro Bodines' mathematical skills can keep up with. LOL.
Final Score : Purdue 82, Misery 61 ...
@drgnslayr I used to LOVE for teams to press us when Roy was coach. Oh my gosh, that was simply a work of art watching our guys destroy presses.
BTW, in case I forget: Misery got stomped by Arizona .... Booyah!
I thought our passing was brilliant. Really nice, head snapping feeds that gave us easy points. Perry, Greene, Svi, and Cliff had excellent games, imo. I didn't get mad at Frank one time, so he is making progress. I am so glad he dropped the Jamari as a starter routine- love Jamari, just not as a starter. We have a tough, tough game Thursday against Rhode Island, so a confidence booster game came at the right time for the good guys. RCJHGKU.
@jaybate-1.0 'Self Suddenly Talking Different Heights of Bigs. Why?"
I think he's looking to express why he making changes to the starting lineup. His comments would explain why he is moving Mari onto the bench and starting Lucas.
No, no no. LOL. Devonte is our point guard, and he will lead us to many wins in his 4 year career here. He will take over the point, stabilize the team, and help that offense run better than anybody else on that team. We need Svi to hit his 3 point shot - he needs to focus on his shot and adjusting to life at KU at age 17, not running a team.
@jaybate-1.0 OR we could this :
[
@wrwlumpy Upvoting your post simply due to the Christopher Walken pic. Speaking of COWBELLS:
We're going to be tested pretty good in the Orlando Classic. Our game on Thursday matches us up with Rhode Island, a pesky team that just knocked off the Nebraska Cornshuckers, who were ranked in the top 25. They are coached by one of the flying Hurley brothers, so they should be fundamentally sound.
Our round 2 opponent will be the winner of the UT/ Santa Clara match up. Caught some of the UT/VCU match up, and the Vols could certainly cause major headaches with their pressure. They run full court press, traps all over the court ...in short, they turn you over. As it happens, when they played VCU, they got whipped, simply because VCU does the same thing, except they do it better.
After we win both those games, we'll play the Green Meanies of MSU. I watched them against Dook, and came away thinking this might be the weakest Spartan team we've seen in a while. Trice simply isn't a go to guy, imo. Have to watch out for the springy forward Valentine, as Perry is going to have his hands full with that guy.
I think our team defense is going to have to carry the load until the offense catches up. I would love to see some easy baskets come our way, as our young team finds its way on offense. RCJHGKU.
@Kong Is there anyway you could send your post to Frank? His game could sure use a short/mid range jumper.
@wrwlumpy The number 5 ranking was from before the game. We were dropped to number 9 in CBS Sports 25 and 1 poll the day after the game.
@drgnslayr "Maybe it is time for Self to revamp his strategy. Switch to a motion offense."
Here's the rub - he's won big doing it his way. 82% is really an amazing record. i don't think, even by losing the way we did, it will dissuade him into doing something different. He is stubborn as a mule, which is part of the reason he is so successful. It's also the reason we lose games at times. That "simple" Okie is extremely complicated, imo.
My conspiracy theory of the week:
What if Dooley was the guy behind the curtain? What if the change from Dooley to Howard was a big step down? What if Howard is good at one thing, and one thing only? ( Recruiting) "Enquiring" minds want to know!!!!
@KUinLA I didn't say our offense sucks. I said our point guard play has left something to be desired.
@globaljaybird It's pretty hard to not have 1 assist in 30+ minutes, but Frank managed to do it. 1 for 10 shooting...ouch. In fairness to Frank, I openly wonder if our poor shot selection from our guards has something to do with Coach's aversion to running set plays. Because ... we have been dealing with the same issue since Sherron's senior year, imo. I'm certainly no basketball expert, and there are many other Kubuckets posters who know far more about basketball than me, but it appears having no offensive structure leads to our point guards rushing head first into trouble A LOT. Whether it was Sherron's senior season, Tyshawn, EJ, Naadir, and now Frank, this has become a very large elephant in the room with our team. I'd like to hear from the x an o guys on this: am I off base?
@HighEliteMajor Those drives to the basket by Frank were brutal. It reminded me of Tyshawn in the national championship game.
@MoonwalkMafia You are attacking me because you said several foolish things that were called on the carpet by a slew of posters, including me. I understand from an ingrate's perspective like yours, your narcissism won't allow you admit you were wrong. It's the burden of ignorance all arrogant people must carry. This will be my last post to you, as I don't see any ability to carry on an adult conversation with someone who simply needs to grow up. Good luck in your quest for trying to be the "smartest guy in the room". Hope it works out for you.
@MoonwalkMafia So, Snapchat was the reason you called for the Late Night organizer to be fired? Maybe it would help if you went back, and read what you wrote, so you can keep your stories straight.
I don't think there is much to analyze. We got stomped. We drove into the heart of their defense, and got swatted away 80 times. How many shots did Frank get blocked? It was brutal, but not fatal. We live to fight again.
@jaybate-1.0 1,000 lbs of screaming steel and sex appeal... May i introduce YOUR KANSAS JAYHAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
[
mildcats ...mildcats.... we no need no stinkin' mildcats.
@drgnslayr Damn, I like the way you think.
HAMMERTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 I might have to drink an adult beverage tonight. Now, THAT doesn't happen nearly as often as it should, as I am careening down the path of the teetotaler. This, from a guy who never missed a liquid Friday at the Hawk, and experienced way too many drink and drown Monday nights at Ichabods. Oh, the shame!!!
@JayHawkFanToo Without divulging any non-pertinent information regarding the illegal act of gambling, my nickname used to be "double up"....lololol.
@MoonwalkMafia "You both did not even look at the crux of my point as well...". Oh, i got your point, loud and clear. You call for someone to be fired because we only had 14,000 people for Late Night. Oh, the horrors!!!! Sorry you choose to look at the glass half full. When I went to KU, there was no such thing as Late Night. So, I see a nearly organic KU experience that has blossomed where real fans get to meet our new team, not some phony baloney rapper having to be jettisoned into our field house because you couldn't fill your arena even half way otherwise. As a university with a fan base that is flat huge, I don't think we need to be insecure about the way we do things here. Now maybe if we were a lesser program that wasn't sure of itself, we might need to copy others, so we could "keep up with the Jones". Well, guess what? WE'RE THE JONES...
@jaybate-1.0 I must confess some disappointment that we two are the only ones into the Hype/Counter-Hype game so far. :grinning: I just got home. Reporting for duty...
@JayHawkFanToo The Line: Kansas Jayhawks +4 Opening line from betonline/com/ I figure the money will flow on the Mildcats, pushing that as high as 7 or 8. Vegas doesn't determine what happens on the court, so it doesn't matter if the number goes to +20, we can win this game. KU by a bucket.
@MoonwalkMafia "In contrast, our Late Night this year was on the Friday before Fall Break and during a Royals ALCS game. I truly hope whoever dropped the ball on Late Night this year was fired, because by comparison UK made us look bad. Really bad. To me, it's this understanding and ability to relate to younger kids and what they find appealing that all other CBB coaches are struggling to keep with Cal."
Ok, I'll bite...how did our Late Night game make us "look bad", and why do you want someone fired over it?
@JayHawkFanToo I posted what was listed. It's an omen. We will win by a bucket.
@JayHawkFanToo Lon was my absolute favorite player back in the Hartman days. The NCAA tournament has not been kind to him as a coach ( over 20 years since his team made the Final Four). In all the years he has been coach, his teams have managed to win one conference title ( 1994 with Florida), That said, OU will be tough. Tough, but beatable.
