Win or lose, I'm still a KU fan. I hope we'll win. I think we'll win. If not, I still love my Jayhawks.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 05, 2018 06:06 PM

No way do i see Vick going pro this year. I don't think he thinks he's ready.

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 04, 2018 09:04 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I said he was sleazy. I'm sorry his mom's feelings are hurt. Maybe i shouldn't be this way, but I care more about KU basketball than i do his Mom's feelings. Common sense says there is something that was done that was not within the framework of the rules that are clearly laid out. Maybe it was a simple mistake - maybe it was willful disregard of the rules. Now, i absolutely don't agree with fans reaching out to the family and saying nasty things at all- that is way, way out of bounds, and should be condemned. But, that is far cry from complaining about a kid that didn't follow the rules, and severely impacted his team.

Recruiting Thread • Jan 04, 2018 02:42 PM

@mayjay He looks real good going against pee-wees, not nearly as dominant against bigger and better athletes. IMO. I'll probably end up taking that statement back, but I guess all the hype has me wondering if he is as good as they say. I wonder what he would be like in a program like ours that emphasizes team first. Hmmm...

Self's Worst Team at KU • Jan 04, 2018 12:04 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich I wonder how many drives Frank would've had if he had Doke missing back screens the whole game instead of Landen Lucas. Landen made it very easy for our players to drive to the basket. No doubt Frank is great at driving to the basket, but those drives worked because he had an experienced big down low creating the driving lane. That way, all Frank had to do was beat one man instead of 2 or 3. We don't have that this year.

Self's Worst Team at KU • Jan 04, 2018 11:45 AM

@DoubleDD It's all Devonte's fault...seriously? His 27 points weren't enough - Frank would've had 60. His 40 minutes weren't enough - he must not be trying. It was Devonte that made Vick go 1 for 9. It was Devonte that made Svi go 0 for 6 from the 3. The one guy that came to play is the guy you blame for the loss. Astonishing.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Jan 03, 2018 11:06 PM

@HighEliteMajor He can't get past trying to out-athletic players, and trying to do it all himself. Worked in high school. It doesn't work now. He is not a cerebral player. It doesn't mean he can't get better, perhaps much better. I don't think the word selfish fits as much as confused...perhaps baffled. Right now, he is simply not grasping the college game. IMO, Frank had similar problems at times early in his career, and that turned out very nice. Cunliffe can defend, and can shoot. Our margin of error is so razor thin, I don't see why we don't simply give Cunliffe a real shot. 2nd half Svi took a dump last game. Vick was M.I.A. Put in Sam, Coach.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Jan 03, 2018 04:21 PM

@HighEliteMajor Newman gets the rebound, and races down court. He has Devonte ahead on his right, Vick on his left, and three Raiders waiting in the middle. He keeps the ball himself, puts up a prayer 5 feet away from the basket, gets blocked, and looked exactly like Tyshawn at his worst. I think it's time to free Sam.

Exposed again • Jan 03, 2018 01:13 PM

@mayjay Let's face it - Svi is a 3 point shooter. He is a liability on defense, he doesn't drive to the basket very well, and his short arms don't help him to rebound. He is a great offensive weapon when the shots are falling. When they aren't, well... All the people who think De Sousa will languish on the bench should ponder how badly we got beat on the boards last night.

Exposed again • Jan 03, 2018 12:18 PM

@BeddieKU23 Vick had his worst game of the year, yet I found myself being a lot more steamed at Svi. How many times did Svi have a chance to cut the lead, and just didn't deliver? I found myself wanting to see a lot more Sam last night, and less Svi and Vick. Oh well. The world didn't end last night. This is going to be a challenging year for us.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 03, 2018 12:00 AM

@BigBad I only gig you because you think you're smarter than Coach and the rest of us. Just so you know, I'm setting you up to serve you a big plate of crow later on.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 02, 2018 11:52 PM

@DCHawker Good question. The answer to me is we don't know. Billy played a slew of games to start the season back in June, along with the exhibitions, and has been practicing the whole year. That would put him far ahead of Diallo. Diallo was also really new to the game...like just barely learning how to play. The 7 game absence was simply killer. Diallo was missing simple screens, and block outs, and just basic stuff our bigs have to do. I mean, he couldn't beat out Lando. That should say alot. Cliff was a lump of poo. I mean, he cakewalked the whole time he was here. The best story about Cliff I read were fans reporting that Coach Self yelled at him on more than occasion if he just wanted to pack up and go home while he was on the court. That's a guy that was completely deluded, and didn't work a bit ... just was going thru the motions. I think it's safe to say Billy would be ahead of either one of those guys.

With Silvio, I think he is going to take a little longer. But, this is what I see he has going for him:

  • He's been playing organized basketball for 11 years. He was taught the game to be fundamentally sound, not on an AAU court, and it shows in his decision making and poise on the court.

  • He is a relentless, aggressive rebounder...scouts call him "elite" at rebounding.

  • If you watch his tapes, you see a chiseled athlete ..a humble, poised athlete whose purpose is to win, not to impress people. That might seem like a small thing, but that attitude goes a long way with a guy like Self. Look at how much time Garrett and Lightfoot get right now, warts and all, because I think Coach wants to reward the players that put team first.

  • He is flat tearing it up so far this year. I don't think he will be score that much, but he is excellent on the free throw line ( once again, fundamentally sound ), and will be a guy we won't mind going to the foul line when the game is on the line.

I am more excited about Silvio than Billy, although Billy might end up making a bigger splash.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 02, 2018 08:54 PM

@drgnslayr It's going to take Silvio and Preston a month or two to have things figured out. Until then, we'll see Lightfoot for 10 minutes a game, perhaps? After that, I'm not sure how much time he'll get.

Now here is some interesting comments • Jan 02, 2018 03:30 PM

@BShark If we go to the 3/2, he's going to get minutes...even with Preston and Silvio being onboard. i figure it will take almost 2 months to get them fully worked into the rotation.

STARZ STREAMING OFFER • Jan 02, 2018 03:54 AM

BTW, Happy New Year's, Rooster!!!!! How about those Hawks beating Texas?????

STARZ STREAMING OFFER • Jan 02, 2018 03:50 AM

i don't pay for net flix - my daughter has 4 accounts, and wanted to know if i wanted a free account. i said sure. my hulu is 5.99 a month. i kind of like the commercials. for almost half the price, i can live with the commercials. it also helps when the prostate calls. my sling is 28.25 w taxes ( I have the blue package because i can get all live stream sports for free ). and now i have starz for 50 cents. i am like the "lowest price area rug trader " of streaming tv. My buddy regularly downloads the newest movies to a memory stick for me. I seriously have more content than i can watch.

STARZ STREAMING OFFER • Jan 02, 2018 03:43 AM

@mayjay I had starz for 3 months, then i dumped them, and went with hulu, netflix, and sling. so, i didn't realize it was an offer for former customers. sorry about that. i'd suggest signing up for their free trial, and dumping them. then you might get the same offer.

Now here is some interesting comments • Jan 02, 2018 03:40 AM

Lightfoot is going to get minutes because we're going to the 3/2 for half the game. If De Sousa and Preston both get cleared, he'll still get minutes. I seriously doubt he will get more than 10 minutes a game, but if he does, then it will be because he has improved. I don't personally think he'll improve enough this year to warrant more time, but you never know.

Bragg • Jan 01, 2018 09:55 PM

OK....RED ALERT FOR STREAMING VIDEO. For one more day, Starz is running a 5 month special- .50 cents a month for 5 months. If you stream video, this is as cheap as you will ever get a premium movie channel. I about broke my fingers signing up. I feel as though Starz is the very best movie channel, with a huge library of movies. No contract - dump 'em at any time. No, i don't work for them. I just couldn't believe what a great deal that is.

Bragg • Jan 01, 2018 09:52 PM

@mayjay I've read all three of those. It was the Bourne series that got me. It's funny, too. I thought the first several were the best work he ever did.

Bragg • Jan 01, 2018 07:55 PM

@mayjay My epiphany in the middle of a Robert Ludlum novel - why have I read 7 or 8 of these? Do i really care about Jason Bourne? Why have I spent hours of my life caring about Jason Bourne? And it was over. Just like that. That half -read book was laid down- never to be picked up again. It was a little like when Forrest Gump decided to quit running.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 07:28 PM

@BigBad And DG isn't a leader, right? That's what you said during the game on Friday. Since I was quoting Bill Self on his desire to go to the 3/2 at least 50% of the game by February, are you trying to say you know Bill better than he does? That might be your most egotistical statement yet.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 07:15 PM

@HighEliteMajor I think it's the biggest story of the season. We lost to a VCU team that simply cut off the hi-lo, and we were helpless against them. We had no ability to match up to a 4 out team defensively or offensively. We had no weapons on the perimeter, while our NBA bigs sat there helplessly. Then the 4 out system comes into play ( evolved by Perry Ellis inability to play back to the basket, imo ), and then with recent roster necessity, and all of a sudden, our offense purrs along like a 400 hp hemi engine. The only problem with the 4 out is you have to make the shots because it certainly leaves you vulnerable on the boards.

I chided you a little about the Cunliffe DNP a little, because it was your first take on the game, not the 17 for 35 from 3. And i think there was a real good reason why Sam got the full bench treatment- when you're planning on moving minutes from the perimeter to the bigs anyway, the last thing you need would be for Cunliffe to go off, and make a case for more playing time. They are already bracing Newman for less playing time, which will be inevitable with DeSilvo and possibly Preston on board.

So, it means we will be able to play the 3/2 or the 4/1 offensively and defensively. It means at some point in the season, we could play both systems during a game. With 2 bigs, it will allow us to extend our perimeter defense like 2008. And rebound. With 4 guards, we'll be able to isolate, and match up with the smaller teams. The key is to get those two bigs 1) eligible and 2) on board with the program.

STARZ STREAMING OFFER • Jan 01, 2018 05:16 PM

Starz has a very nice library of movies. They are offering the best deal on the market right now: .50 a month for the next 5 months for streaming. Holy Toledo! I about jumped out of my chair signing up!!!!! Go to starz.com to sign up. Don't snooze on it because the offer is only good until tomorrow.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 04:55 PM

@mayjay It's easier for them that way. "He beat our ass" is too difficult for them to comprehend.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 04:02 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Did you see Dixon's mop???? I thought one of Ellie May's critters had gotten loose.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 03:47 PM

@dylans Wissox is more objective than most of us. He gigs us for our fanatical natures. He still bleeds crimson and blue at the end of the day. I just wanted to compliment you on a really good post. As for the broken nose, I just wanted to mention that I had a good friend in college who went to a game at Silo Tech, and knocked a Grape Ape fan out in the parking lot after the game. So, I'm sure the guy that got knocked out thinks KU fans are brutes as well.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 03:41 PM

We have only won the last year and a half by outscoring teams. It looks very pretty, but when our shots don't fall, we get waxed. I think we need the ability to control the boards better. I also think having that 2nd big in the lineup could open up driving lanes for Vick and Svi to the basket. Maybe it would allow us to get out on defense, and trap the ball, knowing we have two big guys at the rim for protection. Neither the 4 out or the 3/2 is the perfect answer, but having the ability to do both could be the perfect answer.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 03:30 PM

@wissox Shaka is our sworn enemy. Texas is our sworn enemy. They must be defeated. It seems like you have some doubts about the mission, Soldier.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 02:28 PM

@Bwag He really wants the 3/2. I think it will be a two month process ( IF Preston gets approved ) before we get to 20/20, and i could certainly see him using the 4 out in games with certain matchups almost exclusively. Still, this team right now is nowhere as good as they will be in March, imo. Like DD has said, this could be a Final Four type team. It is going to require lots of patience and Pepto on our part to get that point. It certainly could be a roller coaster ride.

Silvio and the Perimeter Hit • Jan 01, 2018 01:49 PM

Happy New Year! Are you ready for the new Kansas Jayhawks? The large and in charge Jayhawks? The 3/2 gets resurrected - the 4 out gets chopped in half. Lightfoot doesn't lose minutes, but it sure looks like Newman becomes the odd man out. Silvio's minutes will come from reducing minutes from the perimeter in the future ( announced by Coach Self ), while at the same time, they announce Garrett will start again on Tuesday. Not good for Newman. When Preston finally gets approved, it wouldn't surprise me to see the 4 out dropped almost completely, and we run with a DG/Vick/Svi/Preston/Doke lineup, with Silvio the first big off the bench, and Garrett the first perimeter guy off the bench. Lightfoot will still get his, though. And Newman becomes our offensive charge off the bench.

No More Undefeateds • Jan 01, 2018 01:40 AM

Trae Young is like the elephant story, where each man was asked to examine only a part of the elephant, and they all came to a different conclusion. I think he's an NBA star playing in college, but I respect the people who disagree with that assessment. Let's see what he does when we throw DG and Garrett at him. Let's see what he does when Thug Carter goes after him. TCU tried to push him around, he dropped 39 on them with 14 dimes. Even if we do stop him, or limit him, he's going to be playing in All-Star games for years. There's a reason why Coach Self went so hard after him. His passing ability is simply otherworldly. His shot is tremendous. That doesn't mean we can't beat his team. It's still a team game.

No More Undefeateds • Dec 31, 2017 03:08 PM

I spent yesterday wishing that both teams would lose in several games. Especially the OU/TCU game.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 31, 2017 01:54 PM

@BeddieKU23 There's another Malik play that stands out to me. Tejas makes the bucket, and presses. Malik gets the inbound, and tries to dribble through a double team instead of passing to our wide open player standing near half court. He waits until the double team is closing in on him, then tries to pass over them, which gets blocked. As I recall, that was the only turnover their press created. If he handles the press the same way against WVU, we'll get slaughtered.

No More Undefeateds • Dec 31, 2017 12:08 PM
  • Villanova takes a Hinkle tinkle.

  • TCU meets the "Trae ball"

  • Those Egg Sucking Sun Devils lose to the best team money can buy.

Really a great day of college basketball. It would've been one of the best ever if Dook and UNC had also lost. Like Uncle Jed says...weeell doggies... This is shaping up to be just a great year in college basketball.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 04:25 PM

@jaybate-1.0 When Texas went to the zone, I absolutely loved the Vick pass to Svi in the corner. This wasn't Washington, where Vick looked really confused what to do in the middle of that zone. The second Vick got the ball in the middle, he instantly whipped the ball to Svi, which was a wide open 3. Now that is growth.

Ok guys come on , have some fun • Dec 30, 2017 02:30 PM

@Jayballer54 That's the downside of having a university in Bugtussle. Okie St was also playing a bowl game the night before. Still, there's nothing "historic" about a half filled arena.

New Zone More Tricky That It Seems? • Dec 30, 2017 11:41 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 They tried the oops twice, and both times we defended it brilliantly while we were playing zone. They did get several oops early while we were playing man to man.

New Zone More Tricky That It Seems? • Dec 30, 2017 11:40 AM

@jaybate-1.0 Speaking of that zone, did you see the play where Doke forgot they were playing zone, and charged up to the 3 point line...essentially leaving the entire paint completely empty??? LOL. He's young and restless- he'll learn.

Texas Longhorns - Friday - 8 pm - ESPN2 • Dec 30, 2017 05:07 AM

@HighEliteMajor If only he had listened to you, we've won the game..oh wait...

Texas Longhorns - Friday - 8 pm - ESPN2 • Dec 30, 2017 04:24 AM

@Jayballer54 If the refs had actually called goal tending, and if Coleman had not hit several unintended bankshots, we could've won by 20.

Texas Longhorns - Friday - 8 pm - ESPN2 • Dec 30, 2017 04:12 AM

Nice win. Our leader had a great game, with 23 points ... 8 dimes...and 4 rebounds. We're SO lucky to have Devonte. My pick to click this game was Svi, and he once again had an incredible 2nd half. Very nice road win against a tough team. RCJHGKU.

@REHawk Yes I did. Louie just isn't as good w/o their hookers.

Big 12 down • Dec 29, 2017 09:26 PM

I'd take Jay Wright. I also like Mike White of Florida. I would like to see more pressure defense, with traps, pack lines, freak defenses, and all that jazz.

Keegan • Dec 29, 2017 04:42 PM

I don't mind Keegan. He's not a true believer, but he's close enough. I like Tait and Newell better, but I can live with the fat man. I also don't mind Gary Parrish as long as he is writing good things about us. When he isn't, i turn on him like a rabid dog.

Ok guys come on , have some fun • Dec 29, 2017 12:12 PM

BTW, speaking of baloney sandwiches, did you see where Double Chin Keegan picked KU to finish 3rd in the B12? I think he's started his New Years drinking a little early this year. Also, it really sucks that they are playing Kentucky/ Louisville at 1PM today. I wanted to see that game. now I'll be reduced to sneaking looks at the box score at work.

Ok guys come on , have some fun • Dec 29, 2017 11:44 AM

77-68. KU wins.

Coach Self • Dec 29, 2017 11:43 AM

@REHawk Who says we have to lose? I certainly don't. You're a fan - it's ok to believe we'll win our next 3 games. You won't get in trouble.

Big 12 down • Dec 28, 2017 07:38 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Dixon is like Snyder was when he first started at Silo Tech. The Kitties were so desperate for success, the first time he won 6 games, they were ready to build a statue of him. Dixon is going to look great simply because TCU has never done anything in basketball for many, many years. However, I have a friend who is a Pitt Alum, and they were ready to run Dixon out on a rail. He HATES him with a passion.
