@justanotherfan I think JJ was the best freshman for KU since Wilt. Wigs is a close 2nd, though. I just love his intensity, and I think he'll be quite a star in the NBA.
@wissox Stoolwater St. That might be the best one you've ever come up with. That is genius.
@drgnslayr The kids probably start making money in junior high. A highly regarded player could ask for the world, and would get it, one way or another. The word that keeps coming to me is endemic. It would seem the simple way to fix this is allow high schoolers to be drafted. Those that go to college have to stay two years, period. Let the high schoolers that aren't drafted go to college. The NBA gets the cream of the crop, and gets two years of training. The college game gets more experience, which means better basketball. The NBA is already openly discussing raising the draft age. College baseball has a mandatory 3 year college stint. It could work if they wanted it to.
Things that make go you hmmmmm...

@HighEliteMajor Yeah, that one.
Oh wait. You don't care. Nevermind.
@HighEliteMajor I didn't know that about EJ. In a word, Michigan. Remember that one?
@HighEliteMajor Garrett was point guard on a state championship team. His defense has already assured him of playing time in the rotation. EJ was never a point guard, although he tried it for us for a while. If we're down to Garrett as the point guard, I don't think he makes us forget Frank, or remember EJ.
If we have to go to battle with Charlie Moore at point guard, I'm fine with that. He might be short, but the biggest front line in like ....ever will mitigate some of my concerns about his height. Self will have him driving to the basket and dumping off to our enormous front line all game long. Charlie has a shot at being a pretty decent college player, imo. That's the beauty of having an entire year for Charlie to get better going against Devonte and Newman. I like the way he plays. He can't drive the ball like Frank, so he pulls up on his way to the basket, and shoots a funky little mini shot, which keeps him from being eaten alive in the paint. It kind of reminds me of the Selden sideway shot, where Wayne would drive sideways across the middle of the lane, and miss a 4 foot shot by 2 feet. Only Charlie, unlike Wayne, makes that funky shot. Love Wayne, though. Just not that shot.
@BeddieKU23 Bryce Drew. Will he be a better coach with talent than his brother?
@Crimsonorblue22 We lost our best player, our difference maker, for the year. That wasn't the Texans padding the stats; that was the Texans coming together as a group to not give up, even though they were way down. The loss of the captain of the team ... there's very few players that can do what JJ Watt can do, and I think the guys wanted to keep fighting as hard as possible until the final whistle.
@dylans Would you prefer Watson lay down on the field and quit because they're behind?
@BShark The results don't surprise me. I think the Chiefs are the best team in football.
@drgnslayr Guilty as charged. Or, as I like to say "deferred as charged'. I understand the concept of letting your teammate shine in his senior year. Especially when he's in the running for POY in college basketball. Devonte was not the same player last year as the year before. He went from being considered the most clutch player on the team to a question mark for this year. I think he deferred to Frank way more than in the two previous years. I think he is every bit as good as Frank at point guard, but simply in a different way as Frank. No doubt, Frank can score. Frank's quickness combined with toughness allowed him to drive on practically anyone. His drives to the hoop were a work of art. So, I think I am safe in saying that there is no way Devonte comes close to matching Frank's scoring numbers. However, there were times in his career that Frank tried to win the game by himself. You can't fault a guy for trying too hard, but I always wanted to see Frank work the other guys in more. I know Frank averaged 5 assists, which is good, but I think Devonte's asst numbers will be better. His point guard mentality will result in that extra pass to his teammate in the perfect spot. And don't forget, in his soph campaign, he hit 44% from 3, so he has the ability to light it up.
@JayHawkFanToo I want Mitch stationed within 5 feet of the basket on offense.
MPG : FG% 3P Ast TO RBS PPG
33.5 .434 .381 4.6 1.9 4.3 12.9
35.3 .428 .388 4.1 1.8 3.1 13.4
Which line is Franks, and which is Devonte? I don't share the same worries you have about Devonte. I think our team defense is a work in progress, but Vick could really stand out, along with Garrett off the bench. Just having Doke in the middle for a whole season improves our defense inside, imo. And Devonte has the ability to really step up his defense, like he did his sophomore year. Remember him out dueling Buddy Hield? There's a reason why Newman was ranked in the top 5- no doubt he will not remind anyone of Bob Cousey with the ball, but the kid can flat shoot. I think higher of Preston than you. I think that Preston will be motivated to rebound because that is all he is going to hear from the coaching staff for the next 6 months. I also think people will be surprised how polished Billy is with the ball. He is an excellent passer, and has good handles for being such a large guy. And the guy can shoot.
Our big weak spot is lack of depth up front. Then the rebounding issues rear their ugly head. If Doke is on the bench w 2 fouls in the first 10 minutes, then we take a big step down on the boards, no matter who we put in.
@BShark No doubt. But, I thought it was the best response I've read in years on there.
Hubba, hubba.
@hawkmoon2020 Are you talking about the 2018 year? I'm not sure Preston will be around next year.
@BShark I think Garrett goes gonzo this year. Coach has made comments about him that speak volumes. He is a multi talented/ multi position player that plays excellent defense. Garrett has sunk Cunliffe's battleship, imo.
I guess I get amused easily, but I thought this was hilarious.
Just click on the link to keegan's article, and THEN scroll down to the first response in the comments section. I think the response was genius:

I don't see him starting Vick over Svi, but I think their minutes will be about the same. What a nice problem to have.
DG
Newman
Svi
Preston
Doke
I love Late Night because I get to watch my favorite team scrimmage. The other stuff is frankly boring to me, but whatever floats their boat.
@mayjay LOLOL...I had originally said that having his wife in Kentucky could significantly boost bourbon sales, but it was too long for the signature tag...

@BShark UNC doesn't bribe players - they save their money for the NCAA investigators.
@wissox Debbie Downer. Cheer up. It's a good day for guys named Steve.
@justanotherfan They've been great for decades.
@HighEliteMajor There is no way that Kentucky and Dook recruit like they do without the shoe companies. Noone in either program knows how much anyone has received except for that individual athlete. Plausible deniability. Has it happened with us? Not with JJ. With Wigs, I assume nothing out of the ordinary happened. He did sign with Adidas, but that doesn't mean he is guilty. Although his original signing with us was a shock. I'll bet Coach and the staff wouldn't know. To say they would be held "accountable" for a 3rd party transaction they didn't initiate, have control over, or have any of the particulars might be a stretch. Maybe in that touchy feeley world of institutional control universe it might, but I'm betting unless the big name coaches pull a Pitino, and mention the $$$, it would be a "lessons learned" situation. It wouldn't surprise me if Kentucky's annual payroll was over 3 million a year. Paid by Nike.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree with your theory. Hopefully, it can be proven.
@BShark Me too. Even then I can barely tolerate most of their announcers.
What a let down. I guess we'll have to ask Crimson to do a play by play for us.
Damn ESPN.
These announcers...
@Texas-Hawk-10 Where does it say Ayton was paid? Not saying he wasn't...I'm sure he was.
@Fightsongwriter Well, I can't really blame her after listening to this joker for about 30 seconds. That dude is off his rocker.
@Crimsonorblue22 You sure it's possible to clean that up?
@JayHawkFanToo I made it about 30 seconds thru this:
[
@mayjay "Here comes the Judge...here comes the Judge"... it's good to have an actual judge on here that can translate for us.
@BeddieKU23 A heavy dose of Svi, Vick, and Garrett in the 4 out when foul trouble occurs.
@BShark Our starting 5 should be as solid as a rock.
It wouldn't surprise me if most of these kids haven't been receiving money on the side for years and years. From AAU coaches. From shoe companies. From "financial advisors", etc. So, we as a university are not bribing players, but we have no idea if the shoe company paid a kid 250k to show up on our door. The system is corrupt because the shoe companies are corrupt, and our university is willingly taking money from these cads. The freaking head of Adidas (America) is caught red handed offering bribes, buying players for hundreds of thousands of dollars. So, if you believe in purity in the sport, if you believe that players should accept their scholarship as payment in full, then I would think it would behoove you to be for KU dissolving their partnership with Adidas immediately, if not sooner.
@drgnslayr Do tell. I'm all ears.
@jayballer54 I've never heard of the author, the website, or the new poster who used one of their first posts to share this with us.
Word has it that Louisville's penalty is worse than the Death Penalty- they will now have to take Tom Crean as their coach.
sarc/ on
@JayHawkFanToo We're waiting for his handlers to give us his final price to sign....BWHAHAHAHA !!!!
sarc/ on.
@BShark I think the outbidding scheme involved Little instead of Quickley. I mean, everybody knows Kentucky pays their players, but it still has to be proven. So, i was giddy, hoping it was quickley, but it looks like we'll have to wait to hear the kentucky sordid details. It shouldn't take very long.
@BShark Who was that from?
It has to be Quickly. The report states that Miami had offered a player 150k, and was outbid. Oh my goodness. Is the Squid's day of judgement finally on us?
