@drgnslayr I can dig it.
One point loss on the road. WVU went all I with the press, tho the point that their key players cramped in the second half. Alexander played limited minutes, Selden only contributed 4 points, we allowed a ton of offensive rebounds, had difficulties breaking the press, failed to shoot enough 3 pointers, got out hustled, and after all of that, if Perry Ellis gathers his feet dribbles the ball once and dunks it we are not having this discussion. Give me my Jayhawks any day of the week. We are in 1st place, and we will continue to strive for "Self" Improvement. (Pun Intended).
I am with my Jayhawks good or bad. Keep sticking with it, and hopefully it will come together.
@globaljaybird Agreed, he rushed the shot.
@brooksmd Traylor
Perry had enough time to dunk the ball.
Mason and Oubre are Road Warriors. Ellis got tough at the end of the half on the move to the bucket.
Proud of they way they came back to close the first half.
@Jayrawks1 Welcome. You are off to a great start. Just express yourself and have fun. It is okay to vent frustrations as well. We all understand. We don't always agree, but we all have a common goal. Getting on each others nerves! (just kidding). Seriously, with some it's National Championship or bust, with others it's enjoy the ride with the ups and downs that each new season brings. Either way, we are all passionate KU FANATICS and love our Jayhawks.
As far as recruiting, the World Games further thrust our program into the National Spotlight. I think you hit on something. The chance to play on National Television for 10 extra games has got to be appealing to any young man trying to showcase his talents.
Anyway, welcome, enjoy, and you are definitely off to a great start! Excellent thread to begin with.
@Crimsonorblue22 That is exactly why I said I don't know. Maybe he is saving it for this point in the season, and deferring to his teammates at this point. I know he is capable of taking over games and dominating. We all saw the monster dunk awhile back, so the ability is there. I don't have any idea why it doesn't come to the forefront. I would definitely take Cliff back next year. As far as a new guy, I think we need a little more height in the paint.
Truth is, I don't know if Cliff Alexander is ready for the NBA or not. Have not really seen him play enough. If he were playing 25-30 minutes a game, then I might have an opinion. If he comes back next year, he will probably be a top 5 pick after next season. I am sure he will play more next year. However, this season is far from over.
It's a much bigger deal whe Kansas loses. Not such a big deal when Kansas wins. That is the monster that Kansas Basketball has become. I'm Good with that.
@wrwlumpy I think most are upset about losses than about Coach Self.
@Crimsonorblue22 Been making that point for years. Bill Self is an outstanding coach. Winning it all in the NCAA Tournament is extremely difficult, especially when there are lots of teams that do not deserve to be in the tournament. Coach Self is a winner, his teams constantly win their conference and are always in a great position to win the whole thing. Last 10 years 1 National Championship, 1 Runner up, and even a few Elite 8's and Sweet 16's. Looking forward to many more great seasons under Coach Self.
Full to the max. It is hard to fault anyone on this year's team. Chemistry takes time. What I like about this team is that we have so many options to take the big shot. In years past, we had some players that appeared to not want to take the big shot. This team has plenty. I believe Mason and Selden will get their wheels back. I believe Cliff will start over Traylor sooner than later. I believe this team will develop chemistry and have another successful season. I believe that some fans that expect Championships every single year, now realize how difficult it is to win just one. Coach Self's job is not all peaches and cream. Having to manage all the different personalities and egos cannot be easy? My glass remains full to the max, because I get to enjoy the Kansas Jayhawks play the game of basketball. It is just something special about that!
@jaybate-1.0 when you think of Dean Smith, you think about College Basketball. One of the all time greats in basketball and in life. He will be missed.
Is Self doing Alexander a favor by limiting his playing time?
Did Self promise Alexander limited minutes when he recruited him?
Is Self denying Alexander the ability to develop as a player and play through his mistakes?
Is Self treating Alexander the same as he treated Wiggins?
Is Self trying to hold on to Alexander for more than one year? I am not sure of the answer to any of these questions, yet.
From 18:59 to 17:59 Traylor lets OSU back in the game. He stands flat footed while Nash dunks over Mason, commits a turnover while inbounding the ball and gets scored on by Newberry. Gets dunked on again at the 17:59 mark. The score goes from Kansas 42-30 to Kansas 42-38. Traylor gave up 6 of the 8 points. Not sure who fouled Nash for the two free throws, he may have done that as well. That is when the momentum of the game shifted it took one minute and Traylor was the primary culprit.
@REHawk I think I inadvertently messed it up for you on my reply. Don't know what happened, my bad.
Forte had the flu and we played the last 5 minutes like Germaphobes.
@REHawk said:
@KansasComet Yeah, I know, I know. But JamTray never was a Top 10 Recruit, McD's All American.
Hawk: Tray is in the starting 5 he has got to produce.
@REHawk Traylor 6 turnovers in 10 less minutes. Graham pouts up a goose egg. Perry Disappeared when the game got tight. Clanked 3 straight shots when we needed him. My only wish was that Selden Jr. shot the ball more. I can get over his 4 turnovers, dude was a Road Warrior today along with Cliff.
Time for the Jayhawks to the real Road Warriors!!! Whomever plays great defense on Forte has got my vote.
@FarSideHawk Nice!
In all honesty, the one player I don't want to lose is Frank Mason. He appears to love College. I hope he stays four years.
Bill Self deserves major credit. Once again proving why he is the right coach for this job. He has done a masterful job with this year's group.
Wayne Selden Jr. is a starter.
We won, and that is what matters. We continue to try and get better. We are developing team chemistry. We will be fine.
Young man got himself in an awful situation. DUI is serious business.
@drgnslayr I can remember a lot of attention on Wiggins and deservedly so. He was the number 1 prospect and he did not disappoint. He made plays and contributed to the team. He has participated in camps in support of the program since his departure. He did the best he could do. Maybe not the way you wanted him to do it, but he did the best he could do in support of the program and that is good enough for me. We are not going to win the Championship every year. What we are every year, is competitive. If not for injuries to Selden and Embiid, who knows? Selden played through injury and put up quite a fight. Big XII Champions again last year. We lost in the tournament, oh well. Since 1985 there have only been a few teams to win 4 Championships. We have two. We have appeared in 5 National Championship games since 1985. We have one hell of a program. I am proud of every single Jayhawk player and coach that has helped make our program great. To say that Andrew Wiggins was a ball hog is just plain wrong. He was instructed to shoot more by his coach. I hope we get another player of his caliber next year. Rock Chalk!
I was at the Stanford game. Wiggins tried to get going. He was called for traveling on at least 3 occasions. He actually scored on two of those possessions. Basket was waved off both times. It appears that the board has spoken. We love Wiggins. We are glad he is a Jayhawk. We look forward to his return in support of the program. We enjoyed the many memories he gave us in a Kansas Uniform. Can't wait until we get another one!
@jaybate-1.0 Absolutely love the running, hustling, undersized big man comparison. That was an outstanding post!
@icthawkfan316 Excellent post on Andrew Wiggins. An excellent player for the Kansas Jayhawks that will payoff for years to come in recruiting. It appears he is on his way to a solid NBA Career. I am glad he spent a year at KU along the way.
@jaybate-1.0 Great post. I remember those days. Lots of great basketball. Boston won the Championship in 1974 against Milwaukee and again in 1976 against the Suns. Rick Barry's Golden State Warriors won it all in 1975. Boston had lots of talent back then, including our guy JoJo White who was a real difference maker. Cowens was nowhere close to Abdul-Jabbar in terms of skillset, but he made the most of his abilities with heart and hustle. Excellent post!
I cannot say enough about the effort of our team, today on the road, against a pretty big Texas team. Every player that played today contributed. Zero turnovers in the 2nd half. Outstanding team effort. Unselfish team that is all about getting the win. Chemistry is starting to kick in. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going.
@HighEliteMajor What has Wayne Selden Jr. done to deserve to start? He came to KU as the highest recruit of his class. That was until the signing of Wiggins and Embiid. He handled the signing of Andrew Wiggins with total class. You remember Andrew Wiggins and how much he affected you? Selden Jr. not only took a backseat to players that would go on to be drafted 1st and 3rd overall, he played through injury showing extreme dedication and determination. He came back to Kansas for his Sophomore Year and has been anything but selfish. It's hard to imagine this young man as a one and done, because he appears to be a fine student athlete.
As far as what has he done this year? He has taken over games in stretches, he contributed timely passes for assists, like that bullet pass to Alexander for a crowd pleasing slam Monday night against OU. He has also been good for timely 3's , buckets, free throws and offensive and defensive rebounds. He is also an option that guards and big men alike give the ball up to when advancing the ball up court, so I guess you could say he is trusted.
Has Selden Jr., made mistakes? Sure he has, but he has done a lot more good than bad. Graham is an excellent player and I take nothing away from him and I be his time will come, but not solely at Selden Jr's expense.
Mr. Saturday!
Wayne Selden Jr. is a starter. He is not going to the Bench. We have ten starters. Everyone is not going to look good every game. Svi can play really good and he is not getting very many chances. His time will come. Greene's time will come as well. It probably won't be at the expense of Selden Jr. What I saw dlast night was a team that is starting to get some chemistry as they start to get more familiar with each other. When the post moves, the mid range and the outside come together then watch out. This team has fight and Wayne and Brannen are very good fighters. It appears Coach Self has put together a team of hard nosed fighters. Inside Out or Outside In I don't really care, I just want to win!
All Ball
Team Chemistry!!
@HighEliteMajor We can learn from this game. Things are going to get better. This team has a lot more heart than hype!
@JayHawkFanToo We are on the same page. I believe the NCAA Tournament in it's current format is more luck than skill. Too many teams that don't deserve to be there end up in the tournament.
@JayHawkFanToo I like your post. I said Karma for 1986. I stand by that. I am in agreement with you, just not to that extent. Sure we lost 5 of the 6 games that you mentioned. Does playing that type of schedule make you better? Sure it does. We not only benefitted from playing that schedule, it also contributed to everyone knowing their role and accepting their role. It's not a fluke when you have the best player in the country and the best coach in the country. KSU, Duke, and OU were all afforded the opportunity to put Kansas out of the tournament, and they didn't get it done. Kansas put up 50 points that OU team in the first half. No one could have predicted that. It's not a fluke when you go out on the biggest stage and get it done. I understand what you are saying, and I appreciate it. I am just not in full agreement.
@JayHawkFanToo Fluke is a little strong. We did after all have the Nations Best Player and the Nations Best Coach! I prefer to call it Karma for 1986, I enjoyed your post. Lots of good points.
From what I can see, most of the one and done players, if they could have a do over would stay in school 3 years. Thankful that Danny and Paul were here for more than one year!
@Crimsonorblue22 My favorite post! Thanks.
@justanotherfan That was a great post. This team does have the ability to get it done.
@JayHawkFanToo Now, that was funny! Thanks.
It appears Perry Ellis is clearing a space for Frank Mason.
Christian Garrett Big Man on Campus! Great bucket. Hope you get many more! He has more material for his Senior Night speech!
