I jumped the gun on my observations. Ochai looks like he could be a dude. I hope he redshirts.
2nd half observations: We can rebound. Dedric is still good. Grimes is still good. Dotson is a solid PG. A lot of coachable things we can improve upon.
Overall, a good 1st day imo.

@kjayhawks Agreed. But weighing the risk reward and betting on human decency might be the only chance they have at not living a life that they think isn't worth living. I can't tell you what I would have done in the same scenario as many of these people who are probably at a level of poverty incomprehensible to most of us. They don't have an option. And as bad as it is that we have as many people using social benefits right now, they don't have that to fall back on.

I do think we need to slow the pace on O a bit. I know that playing an inferior team usually speeds you up, but this team can't run and gun this same way all season, imo.
Dotson is a dude. He'd be a double digit scorer easy on a team not so stacked.

What a world we live in where people jump right past the simple explanation that people live in a hell hole and want to leave it for a better life and just go ahead and assume there is an ulterior political motive at play instead. I mean people have literally risked their lives and jumped on a raft made of household goods to get out of Cuba. Is it really that hard to believe people would try to walk across Central America to get to the U.S.?
@BShark He would absolutely get yanked out of a real game for the last one he took. I expect shot selection to improve and see him around 36%
@BShark Yea they weren't great, but the confidence with which he took them gave me confidence that he can probably hit them.
I am factoring in the opponents when I say this. Grimes looks like a Top 5 NBA PG pick. I need to see him hit the 3, but he looks like the most polished OAD we've had so far.
My notes from the 1st half: We are long. Grimes is good. Dedric is good. Dotson is fast.
Charlie is automatic from 3.

Grimes played PF in HS for a year. That post up will be a real weapon.

We have a ton of spacing issues right now with the guards and ESU is packing in the post and doubling hard (what else can they do to even TRY to win?). The spacing issues are leaving us with almost no outlet across the court. You've seen Dedric and Doke both throw a pass cross court expecting someone there.
I expected better post scoring, but perhaps Bill has changed to a more modern offensive identity. No player appears to be scared to shoot the 3 besides Doke.
Im definitely gushing over Grimes already.
We got guys who can pass. This O gets going by B12 play.

@JayHawkFanToo No shoes aren't even a little the reason for the contracts. KU fans buy A TON of gear. Enough to cover even the crazy $191M contract. I worked in this exact field, first hand, as a manager, and know some numbers to back this up. The paying players behind closed doors is more of a compound effect of this. I can make a longer more detailed post if you'd like tomorrow.
