Boy I'd like to think they could get a ruling out in the next month. But they've slow played the hell out of us before so who knows.

Champions Classic • Oct 30, 2018 09:54 PM

@justanotherfan Unless they start shooting the ball better and sharing the ball better, it will be another rough year in Lexington.

We can all agree that is completely ridiculous and bordering on him becoming a dictator, right?

Whether you agree with what he wants to change or not is irrelevant. What happened in the past is irrelevant. This isn't just repealing a law. This is an attempt at one man changing an amendment. Talk about a slippery slope...

@BShark I think Chandler commit's to Penny

Not sure Memphis is recruiting him that much actually.

Which probably says a lot about him... If we aren't and if Memphis isn't, that's a sign.

I think KU could quickly get to the point where Chandler is a good option though.

I'm plenty ok with it. I'd almost rather just take him if he wants to come here. He is a 4 year guy who projects to be at the very least a solid playable piece. At least, imo.

@BShark I think Duke rolls by 15. At least that is what my eyes tell me. Duke has the best 3 players on the court and UK has no significant advantage anywhere unless Zion gets in foul trouble.

Champions Classic • Oct 30, 2018 08:16 PM

@HighEliteMajor The day before Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity for something like that. They always play out of town for Thanksgiving anyways so that the players can catch a free flight home.

NFL Trade Deadline • Oct 30, 2018 07:48 PM

Rams all in this year. Wow.

Champions Classic • Oct 30, 2018 07:44 PM

I'm telling you guys. Kentucky is not that good of a team and I seriously believe they are worse than last season. I don't see a single facet of the game they are better in this year than last. They MIGHT have better post play. Maybe. Big if.

1-13 from 3 in their first exhibition game. Herro 0-7 outside of an easy fastbreak dunk. Only 13 assists on 93 points. 27 points came on FTs.

Almost an identical box score to their first game last season.

In comparison, Duke and KU both shot a LOT more 3s and assisted on a LOT more shots. UK is going to struggle to put the ball in the basket. Again.

Duke on the other hand, my goodness. I know it's early and they played nobody, but it is hard not to be awe struck by those 3 freshmen.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 30, 2018 06:08 PM

@BShark Lol such a tease. I hope he just gets it over with in the next week or two though.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 30, 2018 06:07 PM

@BeddieKU23 Lol that's what I'm thinking. We will just have to see what goes on with mama JRE and if she moves to Philly. I'd be willing to bet that Philly has its "benefits."

Champions Classic • Oct 30, 2018 06:04 PM

I don't think you could find another team to join that would travel as well at Michigan State does. The event is great as is. I love that we get to matchup against a veteran MSU team every 3 years to kick the season off. It's a really good test to see where the team is at.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 30, 2018 05:25 PM

Get it over with. At least that means the first domino has fallen. I'm sure Nnaji will be next.

He caught the ball two full yards deep. He should have peaked down to see where he was. Not taking a knee in that situation is inexcusable because it took away the 2 minute warning to top everything off. Returning the ball, if kicked into the endzone, was not an option at all. That is a total lack of game awareness. Especially if the coaches told him to take a knee.

FBI...here we go • Oct 29, 2018 09:58 PM

@HighEliteMajor That's what I thought lol.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 09:37 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Most of that confirmed what I thought. Slim pickings left. My worst fear is landing another Landen Lucas.

FBI...here we go • Oct 29, 2018 09:35 PM

@HighEliteMajor So, fire Self?

FBI...here we go • Oct 29, 2018 08:59 PM

@HighEliteMajor What if they assumed he was paid, but didn't know any of the details about how much or what method or by whom?

Is Self then still at fault?

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 08:51 PM

@BShark Absolutely did. Wouldn't be shocked if it scared away Hurt and JRE. And will continue to be a cloud until the NCAA makes a ruling on it.

Fwiw, I do think we end up with at least a couple of top 100 guys before next season one way or another. I think Stumps could still be in trouble. I think Shaka could be in trouble. Bruce Pearl could end up in some stuff. UCLA is getting tired of not winning under Alford. Maryland is fed up with Turg. Add in any late risers or guys waiting on bigger offers.

So there is plenty of shuffling left. But we are definitely whiffing on our top guys and I totally thought Bill seemed to be getting in a groove again.

Just looking at uncommitted guys:

  • Jaden McDaniels - What is up with him? Seems to have weak offers for being a top 10 guy. Perhaps a Spring signee?
  • Precious looks like he is waiting. But also seems like he could be an eligibility nightmare? His recruitment has been quiet, but seems like Penny might have found a way in.
  • Trendon Watford - We offered him. But apparently didn't take the bait?
  • Malik Hall - Man we didn't even show any interest. Letting talent leave Kansas always bothers me.
  • Carl Lewis - Is he an academic risk or something? NOBODY showing interest there.
  • Tyrese Samuel - Only visited Wake so far. KSU supposedly involved, so he has to be clean right? lol.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 08:27 PM

2019 went from a class "we were in deep with" to what looks like could end up being Bill's worst class in his entire time here at KU.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 08:23 PM

Or, better, I'd love for him to land here, roll up to AFH in his brand new Rolls Royce plastered with Adidas stickers and half of the fanbase act totally oblivious as to why he landed in Lawrence. You know, normal KU basketball things.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 08:17 PM

I'm 10,000% ready for that recruitment to end.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 04:55 PM

Big swing and a miss. I've already moved on. I can't blame him. Staff selling him and Hurt on playing together was never a good idea in my opinion. I didn't ever see a scenario where they could start together on the same team. Now we might miss on both.

FBI...here we go • Oct 29, 2018 03:54 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I like Diallo. I think we should have avoided even being involved with his guardian though.

FBI...here we go • Oct 29, 2018 03:47 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I think he is just referring to the fact that we knew he was going to have eligibility issues from day 1.

Nicholls... • Oct 29, 2018 01:38 PM

If Beaty wins another game I don't know that he should be fired. Other than recruits all seem to think it is a foregone conclusion and he has absolutely nothing in the pipeline for next season.

Berry • Oct 29, 2018 01:47 AM

Berry is here for at least two more seasons based on his contract.

@Crimsonorblue22 Sorry mom, I'll be nicer.

@Woodrow I totally agree that immigration needs reformed and taxes need to be paid. And as @mayjay said, they are lowering the floor for wages in part because of this.

The problem is not immigrants themselves. It is that we aren't even trying to keep track of them and we aren't punishing their employers anywhere near harsh enough to deter the behavior.

I'd be in favor of a mass registration period where we hand out work visas to the majority here. With the expectation that they will now have to pay taxes and that we know who the employers are and we can collect taxes from them as well.

But the economic benefit of them is still better than not having them overall. Sure it costs you some money now, but what is their economic benefit of being here. If you were paying twice as much for food as you are now, would that be more or less than you would save in health care and taxes? These are just generic questions. I do not know the answer to them.

Agbaji RS Candidate • Oct 26, 2018 02:48 AM

I'd bet he redshirts. No reason not to. Either he is good enough to leave early for the NBA or he gets a master's degree paid for. I'm surprised more guys don't opt for this honestly. Basketball scholarships are full ride...

@kjayhawks This is a followup to my above post. But you can see why the uneducated lean Republican and conservative on this issue. It is because immigration effects them the most. Of course someone with a college degree making a decent living is going to say "let them all in!" It is much easier to feel compassion when the thing you are deciding on doesn't effect you.

@Kcmatt7 Yes, I have a coworker that came here legally that I’ve worked with for about 8 years and he absolutely hates illegals because he says they make him look bad. He is a good dude and worker. He actually says he enjoyed living in Mexico but his dad just couldn’t find a steady source of income while they was there.

I worked with a bunch of legals/illegals over a summer. Probably the hardest workers I've ever seen in my life. And FUNNIEST coworkers I've ever had. They made weed eating sand into my own face all day seem fun.

99% are good people just trying to make a living. It is the 1% everyone is fighting over. And I don't know how to weed them out. We never have been able to with immigrants. The Irish Mob. The Italian Mafia. The Russian Mob. The Cartels. We will never be able to weed it out. So thinking stopping people from coming here is definitely not the issue.

I think the biggest issue is not having a plan for them in our current economy. We don't have the same type of jobs to offer immigrants that we used to. We have moved from an industrial economy to a service economy and adding unskilled labor to the labor pool creates a big problem. There are really a finite number of unskilled labor jobs that exist in modern day America and immigrants are willing to take less than American citizens for these sucky jobs. Which is lowering the floor for income. Which lowers it for most everyone else.

So, of course I have no idea how to fix it. But I do know that is the major reason for people not liking immigrants in the U.S. It all has to do with protecting their own livelihood.

I'm going to sound really negative here but...

As great as Lawson looked today this was massively inferior talent. He has an old man game via below the basket with a methodical pace. He will do well in certain match ups but I foresee some serious issues when he goes up against length and speed.

He was amazingly efficient at Memphis. Add in an improved 3 point shot, strength and vertical and I don't see issues. He is as long as most 7 footers. I don't know that length will bother him that much. I don't expect 30 points, but I do expect 15.

Overall team speed is not great. Maybe I'm used to last years team that was so damn fast and they knew where they were going which made them even faster. Tonight we looked slow.

I think we will see some vintage Bill Self pace to make up for this.

As for all the depth I firmly beleive this team goes as far as Grimes and Dotson take it. Scary to be that dependent on two freshman guards.

We will find out a lot against MSU. Can't say you are wrong to think this.

Marcus' shot looks about the same.

Agreed

Vick's decision making looks about the same.

Agreed

KJ looks really soft. The kind of soft Self hates. I'd be shocked if he sees much time.

Disagree. Guy is a Pitt Bull and a rebounder. Not a star. But provides very important versatility.

Also Vick was pretty off tonight with his shot. Other than that I thought he played alright.

He will fill his role. Solid D. 3 point threat. Doesn't take many stupid shots. Type of guy all good teams need.

kjayhawks said:

@mayjay @Kcmatt7 agreed, nothing wrong with trying to better ones situation. It will be very interesting to see what happens if these folks do get to the border. I’m perfectly fine with anyone that wants to come here to better their situation. I also don’t believe that they should get some of the benefits that they do (as I stated in previous posts one of my best friends went to college half priced because he is 1/4 Hispanic tho his grandpa migrated here wehen he was 2 and his family hasn’t had ties Mexico for several generations, not to mention he glows in the dark he is so pale lol) I also don’t believe in just letting in anyone that comes and whether that’s right or wrong could be debated but many country’s including Canada have immigration laws (I actually know someone that tried to illegally go to Canada once Trump was elected and was deported, he is on a waiting list that could take several years to get him approved) several countries in Africa and the Middle East the offense is punishable by death.

I agree that we shouldn't just let anyone in. I think it is unfair to those trying to go about it the right way. But I do think immigrants are the backbone of the country. So, I'm torn.

I read a comment by someone today and it really had me thinking. It was roughly "If someone can walk across the desert to get here, they must have one hell of a work ethic. I'd hire one of these people in a heart beat."

We definitely need reform. We need to find a way to let good hard working people in to come here and prosper. And pay taxes and their fair share along with that. I don't have the answer, but I would find it tough to not let these people in the country who were so desperate to get here. Those are the type of people we want in the United States.

Also, Doke will do better when we aren't running up and down the court like this. And you can bet that we won't be able to do that all season long. Add in that we basically didn't run an offense tonight.

Doke is not an NBA guy (yet). He is not meant for an out of structure type of play (yet).
