Who starts for Kansas at QB • Aug 24, 2017 02:42 PM

Bender needs to start for one reason and one reason alone. Recruiting.

We need to open up the offense this year big time. Even if it means more turnovers. Throw the ball all over the field and let receivers make plays. Make games exciting to watch.

You can sell that to recruits at least.

You have to be kidding me? • Aug 24, 2017 02:41 PM

See now this is the type of thing that is just so absurd and stupid, that it's funny. I mean who even thought of this? Because they definitely just got fired.

Nothing like a little confirmation bias to really drill stories into people's brains.

Instead of avoiding MSM, I personally like to read the same story from three different sources. Read the Fox News or NYP, then read CNN or LA Times, and finally read something that I find more moderate like the WaPo or NYT.

Anything included in all 3 stories is fact. Any quotes used in only the Left or Right articles are basically nonsense. And any quote used by all three articles will have truth to it, and then you can take the unbiased truths from it and form your own opinion on a subject.

Otherwise, you are probably just having some form of confirmation bias.

@BShark Great recruiting area. Stones throw from Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee.

@stoptheflop Not sure there is much to discuss until Beaty gives more info the the press or we see live games. Once games get started, I think we will have plenty of football activity.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 24, 2017 01:04 AM

@mayjay Kind of the point we are making. Just talking about how bills 5* busts have hurt his recruiting, or at least drawn more criticism, than Izzos despite having hall of fame resumes.

TABASCO Can't Finish the 9th ... • Aug 23, 2017 07:54 PM

Been pretty disappointing couple of weeks. Missed Salvy for a lot of reasons. Not only his bat, but he clearly makes a difference calling pitches. It's now or never. Get hot and win the 2nd wildcard or end their careers as Royals with a bad taste in their mouths.

Thoughts On SE Mis St • Aug 23, 2017 06:17 PM

I won't be at the stadium. Though I have looked at getting season tickets for next season if I can find a buddy or 2 to get some with me.

But, I will make sure to stream the game at home! Really excited to see how this team can look, and our new OC can scheme when he is as/more talented than his opponent.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 23, 2017 02:37 PM

@BShark For some reason Bill has the underachiever stigma while Izzo has the overachiever one.

If you compare Bill and Izzo in Bill's time at KU, Izzo has lost in the 1st weekend 6 times. Bill only 3 times.

You can't help yourself? • Aug 23, 2017 02:17 PM

@DoubleDD I was just making a point and trying to help you see that the founding father's did not intend to create a two party system. In fact, it is a major reason for us being torn apart.

You can't help yourself? • Aug 23, 2017 01:48 PM

@mayjay I like the way some of the European countries are set up structurally.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 23, 2017 01:44 PM

@BeddieKU23 Winston?

He's ok. Nothing special. Very solid distributor, but not a great scorer or defender. He turns the ball over A LOT for a guy who doesn't score the ball overly well or is the focal point of their offense. (26% Turnover percentage is absurdly high).

COACHES PICKS • Aug 22, 2017 09:56 PM

@BShark I just think Arizona has the exact same problem we have. An amazing starting 5 and are very deep on the perimeter. But if you get Their bigs in trouble, they are super thin.

NFL total win Predictions CBS • Aug 22, 2017 07:16 PM

NE also has a cake schedule this year.

Home Games outside the division: KC, CAR, HOU, ATL, SD
Away Games outside the division: TB, NO, DEN, PIT, OAK

Pitt and Oakland games are tough. But the rest of their away games should be wins. Especially with the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins all looking like bottom-dwellers this season. I'd take the over on NE.

GB on the other hand...

Home: Seahawks, Bengals, Saints, Ravens, Bucks
Away: Cowboys, Steelers, Panthers, Falcons

GB might be a 10 win team, just because of the schedule. Could be better with Rogers at the helm, but still just a brutal schedule. Probably would take the under if I was betting.

KC schedule is no cake walk either.

Home: Eagles, Redskins, Steelers, Bills, Dolphins
Away: Houston, Dallas, NYG, NYJ, Pats

I think KC should be a 10-11 win team. So I'd take the over.

Raiders are in for a wake up call. Tough schedule could put them out of the playoffs.

Home: NYJ, Ravens, Pats, NYG, Cowboys
Away: Eagles, Titans, Redskins, Bills, Dolphins

Those are tough home games, combined with solid teams on the road. Eagles at home are scary. Titans are the next up and coming team. Redskins can play with anyone at home. Bills game is week 8, Bill have their bye week 6 so they should be a little more rested and they won't be ready to just give up quite yet.

I think the Raiders are a 9 win team the way their schedule falls.

  • @ Ten - L
  • NYJ - W
  • @ WSH - L
  • @ DEN - W
  • BAL - W
  • SD - W
  • KC - W
  • @ BUF - L
  • @ MIA - W
  • NE - L
  • Den - W
  • NYG - W
  • @ KC - L
  • DAL - L
  • @ PHI - L
  • @ SD - W

Just not sure they have the defense to do what it takes to repeat what they did last season. Either way, tough draw to get NE, NYG and DAL all in your own home.

@DoubleDD I don't know what your "research" consists of. But when I used to write articles for my high school newspaper, I wrote the story first and then found people to fill the quotes in later. (I was lazy). I can guarantee some of these websites do the same. It is easy to write a story that fits your agenda. Good journalists interview people and then write a story. They don't base a story and say the entire country believes something on how a couple of thousand online voters voted.

And the bi-partisan system we have is one of the worst democratic set ups in the world. We don't get the best of both worlds, we get nothing from either. One group goes in office, changes things and then 4 or 8 years later the next group is in power and completely repeals all of those changes. Good or bad. It creates a major amount of overspending and time wasting.

We, in reality, should completely rewrite the constitution and fix the loopholes that each of the branches have found. We should have more than one person making decisions in the Executive Branch. We should have to get more than a 51-49 vote in order to pass laws. Congressman should have term limits. And, ultimately, we should support each other and find ideas and compromises that bring us all together instead of tearing us apart. Our two party system was trashed by the original founding fathers.

" There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."
-- John Adams

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind, (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight,) the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

There is an opinion, that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the Government, and serve to keep alive the spirit of Liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in Governments of a Monarchical cast, Patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in Governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And, there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be, by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.- George Washington

Putting Party above man is what they were scared of. And what has ultimately happened.

@BShark I've been wrong before. And I do think they will be the best team in the Big 10. I just think they have their own faults.

Duke is the only team with the potential to have no weaknesses. But they have such a young team it all depends on if they buy in.

COACHES PICKS • Aug 22, 2017 03:26 PM

MSU is overrated right now, just my opinion though. No PG and the worst defensive team Izzo has ever had was last seasons team. Unless Jackson comes in and makes them 6 points better per game defensively, I don't see them as a FF team.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 21, 2017 03:45 AM

I hope he doesn't commit anywhere. If he ends up drafted in the lottery after sitting out a season, I think we may see some kids start doing that. If there becomes a trend of the top 10 freshmen sitting out and waiting for the draft o could see a rule change. Would almost force the NBA to do a 2AD rule or move to the baseball model.

Thon Maker proved it can be done if you have enough upside. If Robinson also gets in the lottery, that proves the NBA doesn't actually care if you get play CBB or not.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 20, 2017 03:14 PM

Good to know.

@BeddieKU23 And played tight games in at least 2 others they played. Won one game by only 2 points.

It's not about picking sides for me. As I get your passion on taking down the statues. Yet I'm skeptical that is where it ends. You this is a movement. Movements don't end until they are impeded. If you think this movement stops with statues then I'm not sure you're seeing the same picture I'm seeing.

This movement is receiving a well earned victory. The statues are indeed coming down. However will it stop there? Will the leaders of this movement and it's people be satisfied.

That's the million dollar question. Many of our founder fathers were indeed slave owners. Will it appease the movement that some of these founding fathers release their slaves at their demise? Or will the movement say not good enough? Lets not for get our constitution was signed by slave owners. Will this one day try to take down the constitution because it was signed by slave owners?

Your guess is as good as mine.

You mean the movement of equality and ending racism? What about that scares you?

This changes what we have heard... • Aug 18, 2017 04:17 PM

@DoubleDD That story doesn't even say who did it? It could have been some White Supremacist trying to get payback for all we know.

OU, UT, TCU, TTU, ISU, KSU and OSU are all bubble teams or worse.

  • ACC has 5 teams in the top 4 seeds. 1 team below a 8 seed.
  • Big XII has 2 teams in the top 4 seeds. 4 teams below an 8 seed.

Think we can all see who has the best conference here.

This changes what we have heard... • Aug 17, 2017 10:28 PM

@DoubleDD Will the next generation of America be pissed that we condemned racism and white supremacy?

No.

And if we do our jobs well, they won't even understand or see racism. So no, they won't be pissed about it.

Should we debate this topic? Sure. One side is supporting of racism or the freedom to be racist. If you feel like supporting those go ahead. The other side is against racism and denounces it. Choose your side...

And finally, tearing down Mount Rushmore is not the same thing. George Washington is not being celebrated for being a part of the South or being a Slave owner. He is being celebrated as the First President of the United States who initially helped free our entire country from the British. He also released his slaves upon his death. I'd say all in all, George gets a pass being as how if he didn't slaves would have probably stayed slaves for a whole lot longer and the entire continent of North America would basically all be Canada. Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, and yet he also played a major role in ending slavery. You also have Lincoln, and we all know what he did... But more than anything, Mt. Rushmore is a feat of human excellence in a time where you would have never thought something so amazing could have been done. So comparing Mt. Rushmore to a statue of Robert E. Lee is really apples and oranges.

@approxinfinity Only one statue in Germany that I believe has a swastika and it was a monument built by the Soviets in honor of their soldiers. It is beautiful, as is the surrounding area around the statue. It is called the Soviet War Memorial at Treptower Park. Only reason they allow the swastika is that it isn't a celebration of it. It is actually a condemnation of it. When I was there, the Owner of my Hostel told me to go. But he wouldn't even say the word swastika out loud. That is how condemned it is there.

I also went to a Concentration Camp while I was in Berlin. It was an eerie place. Surreal to believe I was standing in a spot where tens of thousands died. To see the living conditions they dealt with. To hear about the experiments done to men. These are again, set up in a way to 10000% condemn Hitler and the Nazi movement.

Our statues are there to celebrate men who enslaved, or fought to enslave, millions of people. To rape, murder and abuse them. Not to condemn. Not to educate. To f-ing celebrate all that is wrong with the early history of America.. It shouldn't even be a debate.

If the statues are a problem, why NOT take them down? That is the real question. Why leave up a controversial statue when you can erect a new statue that doesn't? And might even have a deeper meaning...

What About Mitchell? • Aug 17, 2017 03:41 PM

@mayjay I just don't like things going on behind closed doors. Nor do I like that the school has to be associated to get someone cleared or receive a waiver. I'm not saying that bias happens with the waivers. I'm just saying that it would prove that there is no bias if the waiver applies to the student and doesn't have to come from the school.

Just like somehow, some-freaking way, the NCAA tournament selection committee has had up to 3 people on it that were in one way or another connected to Duke. And somehow magically Duke gets easy paths in the tourney. The committee probably doesn't actually favor them. And the process is probably so complex that there is no way they do it on purpose. But they have opened themselves up to be criticized.

If it was so straight-forward if the player was eligible or not in the waiver process, the NCAA should be able to rule on it with or without the player choosing a new school. But because it is not that way, I will always have my doubts.

This changes what we have heard... • Aug 17, 2017 03:34 PM

Trump has been a nightmare for both parties and has made me scared for the future of American Politics. He proved that no matter what minorities the Dems can get to vote for them, middle-class white America can literally win you an election.

On the other side, Trump makes any conservative right now look like a complete idiot. If you say you voted for Trump, you are automatically assumed to have mental problems.

But, the worst thing that Trump did was prove that you can lie your way into the White House. Promise the freaking world to people and for some unknown reason they will believe it. "We will get rid of the Arabs and Mexicans no problem. If you want a good high paying job, hell you've got one come Jan. 15th. Also, nobody will be on entitlements and taxes will go down... (crowd doesn't cheer) to zero, and we will make ISIS disappear and throw Hillary in jail, and also I won't golf as much as Obama did while he was President, and also Chicago will get cleaned up because we will institute a nation wide stop and frisk and blah blah blah blah blah." If you couldn't tell it was word vomit I feel sorry for you. But more than that, I feel sorry that he proved it will work. Lie big and lie often. Tell every single individual person exactly what they want to hear and they will vote for you. Even if it is completely outlandish.

Trump himself doesn't scare me. It is that he proved what can be accomplished by lying and cheating and manipulating that scares me. Because someone as dumb as Trump really can't do too much damage. Someone with some actual intelligence, good God they could mess up a whole lot of things.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 17, 2017 03:04 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 No apparently it's the rule for the waiver. But to me, seems like it could very easily be a biased system. Mitchell could get accepted to, say , UNO and be eligible. But if that allows KU to become NC favorites, all of a sudden he isn't eligible for us.

To me, the system is very flawed. He should be able to apply for the waiver first. I think if he got the waiver, his options would have opened up 100X more than they are right now. Hurts both the student and the school in the current system.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 17, 2017 02:32 PM

Does anyone know why Mitchell can't apply for the waiver until he picks a school? To me that just screams that the NCAA could have a chance to be biased based on where he goes.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 17, 2017 02:28 PM

Also, Matt Scott with the hot take "It wasn't a visit, he just went and shot around." Lol. Other reports are like nope, his mom and him met with the coaching staff and the visit lasted until 9:30PM.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 17, 2017 02:15 PM

@BeddieKU23 Everyone has issues with that last scholly. Cal fills the end of his roster with garbage. K often just doesn't fill the last scholarship.

Personally, I think carrying 11 eligible players is the best way to go. Doesn't scare away recruits and gives you flexibility in years where you have an opportunity for a stud transfer or just an absolutely loaded class.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 16, 2017 04:29 PM

@mayjay Very true. And wherever he chooses to transfer to will be the only place he can go. Makes his decision that much more important. He can't transfer a second time per NCAA rules. So by staying home he is saying that his chances are slim he receives a waiver and he wants to go pro after this season. If he commits to KU, he is saying he will be here 2 years.

Both of those things are fine. It is his choice. He should take the time he needs to figure it out, and nobody here should be upset about it. Even if it feels like a bit of a circus show.

Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread • Aug 16, 2017 03:57 PM

I'd still take him. It isn't like he is out there saying outrageous things. He doesn't appear to have any off-court issues. I think we may be reading too much into things. To me, all it seems is that his momma wants him close to home or with someone she can trust.

He doesn't feel that way. But guess who pays his cell phone bill, buys his clothes, and puts gas in his car probably... Hard to argue with your parents, even when you are right.

At least that is the way this feels to me.

You want to hash out how "young people" are worthless entitled little brats today then start a topic on the politics side and I'd be glad to debate that with you. But we have generations of all ages on here and that generalization is a major insult to a lot of us.

The great Debate? • Aug 15, 2017 10:16 PM

@HighEliteMajor Giving just the right amount of credit. When games matter, Big XII has been awful.

Non-con record doesn't mean anything when other teams are prepping for the tournament. OSU taking UNC to the wire in November means nothing come March. TCU starting 18-0 going into conference play means nothing when all 18 games were against schools for the blind.

When teams cut their rotations and play their best basketball, Big XII has been getting beat. As simple as that.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 15, 2017 04:55 PM

Did just look through who Robinson is following on Twitter. Looks like he recently followed a photo editor for commits who puts uniforms on players for their commitments. He also has followed, literally, 50 girls from Lawrence since I last checked and a couple more KU accounts.

For what it's worth...

The great Debate? • Aug 15, 2017 01:23 PM

The great Debate? • Aug 15, 2017 12:41 PM

@DoubleDD I said my part on if I think it could be duplicated already.

And your logic is completely flawed. But whatever man. You feel free to think what you want. Seems like you're just trying to start something by saying outlandish comments with no backup.

The great Debate? • Aug 14, 2017 11:35 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Over-hyping the Big XII for sure right now.

Who is a threat to make the Elite 8 out of the Big XII this year? Just KU. Only team we know for sure. Maybe Baylor, but they did just lose Motley.

Who is a threat to make the Elite 8 out of the ACC this year? Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, Cuse, VT, Louisville, Virginia, and Miami could all make a case.

ACC doesn't have below average teams. They have Great and good teams that beat the crap out of average teams and make their league look worse than it is. I'd bet money Wake could finish 2nd in the Big XII next year and they will be lucky to finish top 5 in the ACC.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 14, 2017 11:01 PM

@BShark I did sort of expect a commitment already. Honestly I expected a tweet on Sunday.

Every day that passes it is much more likely that he just pulls a Thon Maker. Sit out the year and train. Then go to the combine and show your stuff.

It is just such a weird situation. You have an older freshmen who thinks he is easily a OAD so he doesn't want to commit for two years, but he can't play in the first year. So he's essentially worthless.

He mocks at 14 right now, so it really all depends on what people are telling him. He could fall way, way back to the 2nd round if any other stories come out with him. Or he could stay in the lottery if he has a good showing overseas or blows people away like Thon Maker did in the combine.

If I was his people, I'd probably tell him to just skip the season and train for the combine.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 14, 2017 08:47 PM

@mayjay I'm in the camp that we should take him regardless of if he would ever play a single game in Crimson in Blue, so I'm just making up scenarios.

But as far as paying back a scholarship, that happens all the time. The military does it. If you fail out of school, the military will expect you to pay them back. So do other programs that have Doctors go to rural places for x amount of time. If you leave before that deadline you have to pay some money back. Where I work does it. They will pay for my school, but I have to stay there for 2 years after, otherwise I have to pay it back.

What About Mitchell? • Aug 14, 2017 07:20 PM

mayjay said:

@Kcmatt7 Let me rephrase that: he could sign one but it would not be enforceable and would ptobably get KU in trouble.

Can you explain further as to why?

What about forcing him to pay back the cost of his scholarship if he never plays at least? I know chump change if he actually turns pro, but it is SOMETHING to hold him accountable. What if instead he is on a "basketball fellowship" that has a condition to it. Those are all over the place. If you go to Stanford you can get a fellowship for free tuition as long as you promise to work in a certain area for 2 years afterwards. If you don't complete that task, you must repay the entire scholarship.

Just ideas.
