@BeddieKU23 That isn't a 3 star if those are the schools after him.
@kraken Lot of different scenarios. Obviously none of them are gone if we are in the playoff hunt at the deadline. But it is also unlikely Hos or Moose get moved at the deadline. Most teams don't trade for a position player at the deadline unless it is a GLARING hole or an injury. So if anyone is going to move at the deadline it is Cain because he can play all 3 outfield spots.
Hosmer. Won't get traded at the deadline. Or at least I find it very unlikely. The Royals will be asking a lot in return for half a season of him. When we could keep him and get a compensation pick.
Cain. I think he would be dealt immediately if we were out of it at the deadline. He is a plus defender at all 3 outfield spots so there are a ton of possible landing spots for a guy like him. I don't think that we will resign him at the end of the season though unless it is like a 4 year 50M deal. He is an injury prone 32 year old. And we have guys locked up at LF and RF. So if he loses a step out in CF he isn't worth it for us.
Moose. He is here to stay. It would have to be the perfect fit for us to deal him at the deadline. A team NEEDS a 3B and we get 2-3 really good prospects in return. I doubt that happens though because he is a guy we can keep around who is a good clubhouse guy. Not to mention that we can move him to 1B for much cheaper than Hosmer and let Chesler take over 3B next season. Keeping Moose is a no brainer to me.
Summary:
- Hosmer - Not gone at trade deadline but gone to free agency. Doubt he will be a Royal next season.
- Cain - Gone at trade deadline - stays if it is the right deal for both parties. 50/50 he is a Royal.
- Moose - Unlikely to be traded - Likely to be resigned. 85% a Royal.
Other guys to look for with the trade deadline:
- Vargas
- Kennedy
- Hammel
Pitchers are always the most likely to get dealt at the deadline. If we are out of it and any of these guys are having monster seasons than they are gone. Especially Kennedy. Royals want out of that contract.
Team is much better than 71 wins.
Rotation is much better than is currently getting credit. Duffy, Kennedy, Hammel and Vargas should be able to get us through most of the season. All of those guys are 3.8-4 ERA guys.
And we have a lineup with legit pop at 7 of 9 positions. This is a playoff team.
@Crimsonorblue22 That picture of the Lucas dunk is a classic!!!
@justanotherfan Hold on to Hull for dear life. Recruiting another football state besides Texas is hands down one of the most valuable things we have going for us right now.
@BeddieKU23 If we whiff on recruits, he would be a fantastic backup plan.
Imagine the offense with him and Newman on the same team....
@drgnslayr 10 points to Gryffindor.
I think DG has settled. He has quit taking his man off the dribble. He is too content just passing the ball around and getting his 8-12 points.
He's too good to do that. He has the talent to go for 25 in multiple games a season.
@BShark Can't believe they did it. Glad they did though. They needed another arm. Kind of worries me about the lack of confidence in our farm system though.
@globaljaybird 3 guys in contract seasons tells me we are probably due for a better year offensively.
@nuleafjhawk I'm not accusing him of anything. I'm just saying in general, I don't agree with it. But you are right, people mostly screw up.
Feb 16
@nuleafjhawk 100% disagree. Doing something like keying a car on purpose is wrong. Not human. Purposely damaging someone is not human.
Accidentally hitting a car and running because you are scared makes you human. Getting in a fight at a bar is stupid and human. Things that you don't plan to do and are reactionary make you human.
Ruining someone's car is not "human." It's F***ing wrong. If someone did that to my truck I couldn't get it fixed because I have liability only. And if that happened to me in college, well I wouldn't have had the money to fix $2,600 of damage. And if I couldn't have drove I wouldn't have been able to get the job I have now because I had to drive from Lawrence to KC everyday. So purposely screwing with someone's life is not human. Not at 19 years old. 19 year olds do know better than that. They do know right and wrong. In fact, it is a felony. It isn't just illegal it is beyond that. It is a freaking felony. So don't come in defending someone who is a piece of shit on purpose. Because that isn't human nature. Imagine if it happened to you. I'm sure you wouldn't just say "it happens. kids being kids. Human nature."
He's been hacked. @approxinfinity check to make sure this isn't coming from a weird VPN or something will you?
@BeddieKU23 My thoughts on OU are that they have the athletes on that team and I have faith in Kruger.
TTU should surprise. I like their coach as well. Passion for the school feeds into guys. Especially seniors. Not to mention a couple of his newcomers should be able to play.
I do think Baylor will be that good without Motley. Drew has been finding guys for that spot for years now. If there is one thing he knows how to do it is get big athletes on the block.
@BeddieKU23 We should have 5 or 6 ranked teams all season next year. And I'd bet that 3 or 4 can crack the top 10.
@BeddieKU23 Next season the Big XII will legitimately be the toughest conference in basketball.
WVU will be tough.
Baylor starting 5 seniors might be the team to beat.
TTU with 5 seniors will be tough.
TCU with a So. Fisher and bringing in guys that Dixon actually wants and recruited is also scary.
ISU will struggle.
OSU will struggle.
OU will be 10x better next year than this year.
K-State should be just as solid next season. Bubble team.
UT is a guessing game. But based on this season I don't expect much.
KU is stacked if we can find a PG. 3 top 30 recruits starting. A Jr. Vick. A Jr. Bragg. A Good bench wing in Cunliffe. We just need to find a PG.
@nuleafjhawk That was my guess too. And it was not even close... Leader was 36 ppg and Danny was only 24 ppg.
NY Times just published an article. Not scarring KU at all...
@mayjay Not really.
You realize the majority of crimes that get reported don't end up with charges being filed right? Hefty majority. Doesn't make the person accused not guilty of the crime. Just means they don't have evidence to charge them.
Most bank robbers aren't caught. Most hit and runs aren't caught. Most DV accusations get dropped. So just because our guys aren't getting charged doesn't mean they are completely innocent in all of this.
I'm sorry that it pisses me off to see news that our players were being idiots (guilty or not they are putting themselves in situations to get in trouble and be on police reports, most of which are public record). It devalues something I care about and something I am proud to be. That diploma I busted my ass for. That I went into crazy debt for. That I worked 35+ hours a week on top of class for. The fact that I was the first generation in my family to graduate college. And that I am so proud to call myself a first generation Jayhawk after being a fan my entire life. That apparently other people don't have the same respect for that I do.
Welcome to Kansas. Where we call reputable news sources liars and value basketball over integrity.
@TRUBLUE I'll be whatever kind of a fan I want to be. And as judgmental as I want to be. And as embarrassed as I feel like I should be.
How about our players quit putting themselves in poor positions. I may not be perfect, but if I did have their athletic ability I would have been like Perry and sat in my dorm playing Xbox and basketball until I got paid Millions of dollars to play a game.
I didn't put myself in situations like that just so I could get a job making $50k. So I could only imagine what I would have been doing with the chance at millions.
Not to mention, they reflect on hundreds of thousands of Jayhawks that came before them. Just because you don't take the cautious side about women getting beaten or our guys committing FELONIES, doesn't mean everyone else has to be. These players represent us. All of us. There is a lot of responsibility when you put on that jersey.
And the facts are really irrelevant. The perception is all that matters. And right now if you asked a basketball fan about KU they would call us a bunch of pot smoking women beaters. And that Bill Self recruits players that are thugs. Not the greatest look. I like when the value of my degree goes up because KU looks like an upstanding university. Not when we get trashed in the media and our university gets disgraced.
@BShark You'd think it's time to get a restraining order on her. Not welcome anywhere near the team.
@Statmachine I think we have a chance with him man. Fieldhouse on a night like last night is a game changer.
@HawkChamp I don't think they legally can.
I work for a University and there are so many regulations it's absurd. Title IX is no joke man. We get a required lecture on it every year here. And you can break the rules without even thinking twice.
Can't even blame the Star. It's their job to investigate a potential coverup by the University. Makes me want to take down all my KU gear at work. It's so damn embarrassing shit seems to be coming out left and right.
This looks like crap for recruiting too. Especially with JJ being potentially involved. Imagine the negative recruiting we are going to get from this.
"Bill can't keep players under control. You send your stud athlete there for one season and he could end up a felon and drop his draft stock and cost him millions."
Fan-F**-tastic. Vick and Bragg are on such thin ice. The whole team better be walking around on eggshells for the rest of the season. Or better yet, lock themselves in McCarthy and don't do anything besides practice and play XBox.
@Crimsonorblue22 Looks more like a depth move in my eyes. We still have open scholarships. Like 2 or 3 depending on who stays and leaves. And transfers plus an open scholarship kind of hurt us depth wise this season. As we have seen. So I think Bill will try to land a few end of bench guys with athleticism that can become rotation guys in a couple of years.
I would think Trae will come here still. Even if we landed this guy.
@Crimsonorblue22 And imagine him as a mismatch against a 4. He could D up any 4 and be impossible to guard. He makes free throws at 70% too...
I want Bill to land two of these stud SF at the same time. We could be such a mismatch... We almost have it if Svi could put the whole package together.
@StLJhawk Oh absolutely. I am just saying that I think Wiggs was painted in a worse light than he should have been.
I do keep waiting for JJ to go off for a big 30+ point game. But we have so many weapons that it is almost impossible to do that...
@tis4tim I mean I'm not going to say the thought hasn't crossed my mind either...
@wissox also true.
@justanotherfan Oh yea JJ is a rare find. But I do expect Preston to be a good compliment to next seasons roster.
@drgnslayr I wish we had recruited him. He would have been a fan favorite. Kind of a mixture of T-Rel and Selden.
@brooksmd Suspending a guy for one cupcake game and then immediately bringing him back isn't a punishment. Of course he didn't learn....
We suspend Bragg for the UK game and Baylor game. And sit him out during his legal trouble from before that he was found not guilty. That sends a message.
K is a hell of a coach. But he didn't handle this right, and it is clear to everyone else outside of that program.
I can't wait for K to be gone and Duke to fall back into mediocrity. I think Nike got tired of fighting him and embraced him. But once he is gone, I think you will see a lot more top recruits wearing Carolina Blue...
@tis4tim Wrong? Yes. Wishing an injury on someone is never right. But you know, I've wished a lot worse on someone for a lot less so don't feel too bad.
@BShark Yea plus he will be 20 by the time the season gets going next year. He is a OAD I think regardless. Either he gets drafted or goes overseas, but I don't expect multiple years from him.
Post recruiting will be important next year.
@justanotherfan Bill sure seemed excited. Pretty sure he said something along the lines of not having any big man as athletic as Preston ever come in.
With this team, an Embiid would probably be the biggest impact. A Big who can rebound, rim protect and score would elevate us even more than JJ...
But JJ would easily be second. Clearly.
I'd love to see what Wigs would have done in the same situation as JJ. Where he had veteran guys that could score and he didn't have to do it all. I'm guessing we would have had a very different view of Wiggs. I think we would look at him a lot like JJ. Where he has 20 point games and makes key plays but he doesn't have to be the leader. Unfortunately for him and us that wasn't the case.
@stoptheflop It's actually not a travel. Rule states "A player may not be the first to touch his own pass unless the ball touches his backboard, basket ring or another player."
So really just an underused tool probably. Play was crazy awesome.
It is expensive to get a Shiver membership... Jeeze
@Lulufulu Haha yea they were overhyped quite a bit...
Andrew is a solid rotation piece for the Grizz. Basically took Chalmer's spot after he tore his Achilles.
Aaron sucks and is a D-leaguer for Charlotte.
@nuleafjhawk I kind of agree... He's the worst rebounder out of the 4. But the most skilled offensively. But we don't need more offense we need more defense and rebounding...
Honestly might be a better team without him playing. I do think he will take that big step at some point in his KU career. But this season he isn't necessarily better for THIS team than the other guys.
@approxinfinity I was off a year on Knight.
And yea I think he has figured out how to land one or two every year at a position of need. And I have no problem with that. It is a way to avoid a down year and give yourself a chance to win a championship every season.
@Crimsonorblue22 D travels with you everywhere. That's what I like the best about him. Besides him being cute.
@Statmachine Not time to panic quite yet. If it was, we would start hearing some weird names start coming out of the woodwork.
We have clearly prioritized landing a PG. but that seems to be the only thing Self is worried about. If I were betting, Svi would stay one more year and we will run another year of mostly 4 guard.
I expect Bragg back. I don't see a transfer or him getting kicked quite yet. BG didn't just have off-court issues. He had locker room issues galore. That was his undoing.
Coleby will most likely take a step next season and be a more explosive player than he has been so far. So we have better depth than you are giving us credit for.
IF everything you said happens, sure we may be hurting. But it would take a lot going right and a lot going wrong all at the same time.
@drgnslayr I didn't think about the health...
I'd love to see Tony Bennett come here. Seems like the right type of fit.
@BShark I'd love to see us land Duvall. Absolute stud. Put him in with Svi and Newman and we got ourselves some serious offense. Not to mention Duvall would be a great defender with his size and athleticism.
Not to mention that there are a few teams this year that could easily up the percentage after this season. Arizona, UK and UCLA all look like potential Final 4 teams.
@mayjay The rule began in 2005. So it has a full decade of evidence. Twice has a OAD PG won it all.
- 2015 - Tyus Jones
- 2012 - Marcus Teague
Other times though, teams have been lead to final fours by OAD PGs. Here is a list of those:
- 2008 - Derrick Rose
- 2007 - Mike Conley
- 2010 - Brandon Knight
- 2014 - Andrew Harrison (Wasn't a OAD but should have been).
So roughly 60% of seasons, a OAD PG has gotten their team to a Final 4. That is pretty damn good.
I want players to stay 3 or 4 years too. I don't want to recruit a OAD PG every season. But there is a time and a place you need to. We landed a 4 year PG and we have one lined up a few years from now. So this season and next season you hedge your bets on OAD PGs and see what happens.
@BeddieKU23 I would have thought the same thing after Sherron... Just funny to me how things work out.
@JayHawkFanToo I totally agree. I think ISU would be dumb to not bring him back if he wanted to come back.
