@BShark VaTech is a road game and they are 10-1. And VT usually gives Duke hell. So I'll go ahead and say that Allen doesn't miss a game.
@BeddieKU23 Harris would be a very good consolation prize.
@JayHawkFanToo if he has a 4 win conference season the writing will be on the wall and coaches will definitely start to vulture on some recruits. And you can't wait too long on a firing, because then a new coach won't have time to be able to keep recruits.
Would it surprise me if Coach Porter stayed on the new staff? Absolutely not.
I'm assuming the fact it is in a brace and no announcement means it is most likely just a strain. I've had wrist issues from baseball and I just braced it and sat out between games to get it healthy. I'm assuming he will be fine. He can practice with it because it is on his left hand. I doubt this is anything super serious. Maybe he sits out a few games and practices just to get it healthy.
Lorenzo Romar hot seat talk is juuuuust starting up. They got a couple of wins against cupcakes lately, but that came after a 4 game skid where social media started buzzing about his future. They have one more guaranteed win before conference play. That will put them at 7-5 going into the WSU game. They could go into conference play at 7-6. And honestly, they look like a 4 or 5 win conference team. If that is all they do, it looks more and more like he will be done at UW. Would most likely put MPJ back on the market. Not saying that we should get our hopes up but just keep an eye on those Huskies. They could be delivering someone a present sometime in April or May.
@BShark UK fans always think that they can literally get whoever they want and anyone who commits elsewhere got their scholarship pulled. That's bull. Won't believe that for a second.
UCONN made the most sense with their need, him wanting to go pro after this year and the fact that UCONN was the first major program on him in the first place.
I hope that all works out though, because I am in agreement. Anybody but UK. I'd love to see them miss the tourney again next season. Their 2017-2018 roster looks like it could be hot garbage. Monk, Fox, Abadayo, Willis, Briscoe, and Hawkins will probably all be gone. That leaves them with some decent post play but NOTHING on the perimeter. They could really really struggle next year.
@BeddieKU23 @BShark Cunliffe would be a good pickup. Is he visiting anywhere else?
Hamidou Diallo to potentially enroll at UConn at semester.
Its at Louisville so it'll be tough. The place should be rockin. I think that if Louisville can get a couple of early turnovers and play with an early lead that they will be able to win. It looks like the only way to beat UK this year is to speed them up so fast that they make mistakes. UNC sped them up, but apparently didn't think Monk could drop 40+ on them. UCLA sped them up and played a little bit of defense every once in a while and that's how they won in Rupp. I think UL will definitely speed them up and make a game out of it.
First true road game for a bunch of youngsters is always a tough game too.
I can tell you I'll 100% be watching that game tonight.
@jayballer54 nbadraft.net usually is the bolder prediction, but more accurate in these early months. They are somewhere middle of the pack on draft day. Better one to watch right now.
Draftexpress typically is one of the most accurate mocks by the time draft day rolls around. They don't make very bold picks early in the year. But don't overreact to someone having a good game or something like nbadraft.net does. Better one to watch starting in February.
I hope that they both stay. We really can't afford to lose either of them, but especially not both.
This is most definitely a depiction of what Boosters would have done to Bragg if the Battery charge stuck.
@MoonwalkMafia wish I wouldn't have looked at his twitter after you said that...
@approxinfinity no their oil is what is worth $5 on the dollar...
If we went to a popular vote it would be a disaster. In a two party system, well it would be pointless. I wouldn't vote. Because neither candidate would be in it for my best interest. Or would even have to think about me. Maybe if we did the popular vote a viable 3rd party would appear. But more likely than not, it wouldn't. It is too difficult to start one up from the ground up. There is too much campaigning to do across the midwest in order to hit every state you would have to in order to gain enough votes to matter. And there wouldn't be even close to the amount of funding needed for that. So, essentially, that will never happen in my lifetime. And I hope the switch to a popular vote doesn't either.
@justanotherfan and without the electoral college, we would forget about places like Vermont, Wyoming and Alaska. Do they have more influence than population they represent? Absolutely. Is that fair? Absolutely. If we didn't do that, we wouldn't hear their voices.
You as a minority should understand better than anyone on this board that having your voice heard the same as anyone else is important. By having the electoral college we give people that would otherwise be forgotten, a louder voice on a much more level playing field. It makes EVERY state get heard. If we switched, that wouldn't be the case. If we switched to a popular vote, I wouldn't ever vote. Because my vote wouldn't help me. My vote would go to someone who doesn't care about me and doesn't even have to think about my existence.
@approxinfinity In a country this large, and a two party system, the only way for the smaller midwestern states to have a voice is the current system. It forces candidates to care about everyone and not just the major cities. Why would a president campaign anywhere other than NYC, LA, Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, D.C., San Fran, Philly and Miami? And why would a president/congress introduce policies/bills that help anyone but those in major cities? Do you think a small state like KS would get the same federal funding? Lol nope. Pump that into big cities and get their votes. It would become more about keeping the 55% in large cities happy and staying in office than the 45% who aren't. Popular vote just can't work to "give everyone a voice" if we have such a wide varieties of lifestyles. Current system does a better job of getting everyone heard than a popular vote would. At least in my opinion.
@KUSTEVE Yea I never thought DG would work his way to be a guaranteed money guy. But if he did I knew we would be in for a crazy awesome season.
Vick, well if he can go in the first round he has to go. Can't turn down millions.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yea playing a team game hurts you for some reason... Good news is that Frank is starting to work his way into the 2nd round it looks like. If he can have a couple more games where he shows out and has 30 pts I think he very well might work his way all the way into the early 2nd.
Also, Vick could easily be gone after this year guys... Starting to pop up on mock drafts. Seen him on two today. Apparently the length and his stroke are worth taking a look at. Devonte falling off of draft boards btw...
Well, 2017 is far from over, but it is also very slow at the moment. We gots nothing going on and 2-3 scholarships left depending on who leaves and stays. More likely than not that we won't hear any news until Spring. We probably won't fill our final scholarship or two until even later Spring or early summer when transferring and reclassifying starts. With that, its time to really start paying attention to the 2018 class. Especially because we have quite a bit of turnover this season and next. We know that we lose Devonte, Svi, Coleby and more likely than not, Newman. That leaves us with our 2018 projected lineup:
- PG - Garrett - (Transfer or 2017 recruit)
- SG - Vick
- SF - ??????
- PF - Lightfoot, (Transfer or 2017 Recruit)
- C - Bragg, Maxwell
With that being said, here are our open offers currently.

I did the bare minimum research, but it looks like we aren't in on a whole lot of this class' top recruits either. Besides Grimes, I really haven't heard us doing very well. Gordon was a huge miss. Bol Bol is not looking great. Really going to have to work to get some of these guys.
Any input from guys that follow this a whole lot more than me? Who are our most likely signings? Are we actually in on any top 25 guys?
@DoubleDD I don't care if you question how Bill Self or KU Basketball.
What I didn't like about HEM being here is that you could argue with him and when the argument got a little rough it was never other posters telling HEM to calm down. It was always on you or the person arguing to walk away. HEM gets a free pass to say whatever he wants when he is on the site. That isn't fair. On top of that HEM got way too dicey. He was saying some truly terrible stuff this summer completely unrelated to basketball and when he dug himself a nice hole, instead of just apologizing he just kept digging deeper until we got to the point we are at now. Where there are people who absolutely do not want him back and where he is probably at a point where he doesn't want to post on here anymore. But, it is not our fault that he said terrible things. It is his. And he never apologized for it. He would obviously be welcomed back, but he should be held just as responsible for what he says as everyone else on the site.
@drgnslayr We will still have Garrett to run point 2 years from now. I'd expect a So. Garrett to be ready to go.
@justanotherfan I was trying to say that if you didn't sign in baseball you could maintain your status. But there are so many rounds that they may as well have gone undrafted.
My thing is, I get what the owners are trying to do. They want the rule because they want to make sure that a guy is for real. That he can commit to basketball. I mean it is a multimillion dollar investment in an 18 or 19 year old kid. Just like any other employer anywhere else, they want to see what they are investing in.
@BShark Probably right. But not so out of it Bill didn't think it was a waste of time to trip to Indiana and watch him last night...
Romeo Langford looked really really good last night too.
What they need to do is put in a system similar to baseball. You can declare out of high school. But if you go undrafted (in baseball if you don't sign with a team) you don't lose your amateur status and can't declare again for 2 seasons. If you do get drafted, at all, you lose your amateur status and have to go play pro ball. That way teams don't feel like they wasted a draft pick.
@wissox Depth is strong for sure. I mean any team could beat any other any given night it looks like. We will have to be ready to go when we are on the road all season.
KK and Fesco like to be the guys with "Hot takes." So they go on rants left and right in an overreaction to the news. Always do. Fesco said in training camp "I will not watch a single game this year if Tyreke Hill stays on the Chiefs. As a man with daughters I cannot support this team." You think he isn't cheering for that fast little midget every Sunday?
KK probably did something similar with Bragg. Except that he was found to be not guilty.
The only time KK is worth listening to is when he gets Jack Harry all fired up on Wednesday nights. Probably my favorite segment the entire week listening to talk radio.
@BeddieKU23 I just want to see what Bill could do with a Rose/Wall type of player.
Do we have any updates on Duval? Or is it just all eggs in the Young basket?
I'm scared to rely on a grad transfer, but I guess it could be worse. Getting an experienced PG for one season to bridge the gap while we have Svi, Newman and Vick to do our scoring. Plus another year of development from Bragg and Doke and bringing in Preston. Our post play should be very solid next season to make up for our lack of PG play.
@BeddieKU23 if you have them just one year, do you want Duval or Young?
Of course that is if Duval becomes eligible.
Bill sounds really high on Preston.
@mayjay I have actually talked to my friends about this.
There will need to become a federally funded new station at some point (after we have room in the budget for it). We will have to find a way to separate it from the control of federal government (so we don't look like Russians) and allow it to act independently. We need to do this because they won't have any reason to report biased news because they wouldn't be driven by clicks and subscriptions. We might be able to actually create a real news source again.
Big thing that jumped out to me was only 4 Big XII teams...
KU
Baylor
ISU
WVU
If those 4 are the only ones that make it, we will need to have a really good showing. The league needs to add teams. Cincinnati and BYU are two easy adds and both can play.
@mayjay Absolutely right. Until we compromise on issues, it doesn't really matter who is president... Problem is that we haven't found a way as a people to fix the problem. Someone needs to develop a moderate third party and start building it from the ground up right now. Really get involved at the smaller levels first and then work their way up. Nab a few seats in Congress. Get some people with experience. And then actually make a push for a presidency. I'm talking 20-30 years before even running for president. We need a voice of reason.
The story in the Star said she was pissed because he slept with her best friend.
@Crimsonorblue22 oh c'mon with that nonsense. These are rules put in place to protect investors and owners alike. Chapter 11 bankruptcy is literally just saying they took on too much of an investment, or debt, and we need to adjust some things to make investors happy. Instead of filing a Chapter 7 which would mean they closed the doors and everyone involved lost everything.
Do we want to bash him for not paying taxes as well? Even though I'm sure nobody on this forum pays more in taxes than they are required to do. What people who don't understand the tax code don't realize is that the rich pay far less taxes than we think. "Raise the tax rate on the rich." Unless the plan is for it to be a flat tax with no deductions, good luck with that. Rich guys that hire accountants can get their taxes down to almost nothing. Between depreciation and donations alone, large corporations and the upper class can cut their taxes almost in half. It is called being smart and playing by the rules. It's not his fault the rules are written the way they are. And what better person to try to fix these rules than the person who has been taking advantage of them for decades?
As much as I hate that we elected Trump, as he seems like an arrogant, awful person, I am excited to see what a guy with business acumen can do with a budget. If anything, he has WAY more experience in dealing with debt than any other President. He has way more experience with a budget than any other president. So, either Trump proves what a smart businessman can do when given the chance in the White House or he proves that politicians are better for the presidency. I wish it wasn't Trump and another tough businessman, but he is the guy who ran. He is the guy who wants to change the U.S. and leave a legacy. What other billionaires are doing that? Are we actually so cynical we think this 70 year old billionaire just wants to "help his own business and friends?" His family is set for generations because of the wealth that he has built. He doesn't have any reason to take this job without actually trying to just do a good job. So, how about we give him a shot, yea?
I think you will be surprised how many headlines you will see like this in the next couple of years.
Yea her name has been released. Only pic I can find is a twitter profile pic....
@dylans or to give us extra depth... Every team brings on Juco guys once they run out of 4 year guys worth landing.
@globaljaybird we can agree to disagree.
Either way, its the way baseball is now and the cards the Royals are dealt. We can still win with the rules. More than anything it is our owner hampering us. He got his World Series so now he wants to back off a little bit. I don't have a problem with an owner doing what they want with a team. I am glad we will see another season of competitive baseball. And I think times like this make a GM become much more careful and much more creative. They find trades and explore paths they wouldn't have if they could have just resigned a guy or bought a free agent. If Dayton really is a hall of fame level GM than he will keep us competitive and in playoff races for the next 5 or 6 years.
@Crimsonorblue22 Thats some incentive right there!!
@globaljaybird it's not completely eliminated. Contracts over $50m still get 1st rd picks. And then the big market teams who sign a QO player lose a 2nd round pick and $1m in their foreign players budget.
It basically doesn't change anything for superstar players. Any big market team is willing to give up a pick for a stud regardless.
I think it actually helps small market teams in many scenarios. It might drive down borderline guys to a reasonable salary. If a guy is going to be right at the $50m mark, he is likely to not get offers from big market teams who don't want to give up a pick for someone right at that threshhold. So his best offer may very well be from his own team just because of the pick.
@kjayhawks I doubt he would have actually left, but I'm sure his agent used that to work a raise. As any good agent would.
I think Wayne might be able to earn a roster spot next season.
Perry needs to go overseas. Wonder who is giving him the advice to stay in the D-League....
Cliff showing he would have been a first round pick had his family not done what they did. Averaging a double double... he would have easily been doing the same in CBB as a sophomore or junior. I wonder what this team would look like with a double double machine holding down the post.
@Fightsongwriter well, to me at least, it is more defensable at 1 am. If you will hear out my reasoning.
At 6 am it would have seemed to be a select few people still awake and this would have seemed much more intentional, at least in they way I see it. Like pretty much only one way it could have gone down.
At 1 am, who knows what all could have happened. There are a lot more scenarios where Bragg doesn't look like he was being a terrible person.
That is all I guess I was trying to say.
@BeddieKU23 link?
@Fightsongwriter Happened at 1 a.m. but he was arrested at 6 a.m.
@BeddieKU23 The whole story isn't out yet. He clearly deserves a major suspension regardless. Just really sad because everything I had heard about him was that he was just the nicest guy. A bunch of my sorority friends used to hang out with him routinely and they all said that.
The charges have been changed to show it is a "misdemeanor battery."
If this is his first charge, the odds are he won't see any jail time and will pay a fine anywhere between $500 and $2500 and then be on probation for a period of time.
@ParisHawk They are part of the budget. A very very large part of the budget.
@BeddieKU23 It definitely is a long shot.
But what will have changed is Bill. Originally recruiting him and telling him we will make him look good. We will mix him in at the 2,3 and 4 to show off his skill. Then MPJ goes and watches 12+ years of Bill running a strict 3-2 high low. Well this season of tape would be a huge recruiting tool. Plus, JJ now being a sure-fire top 5 pick helps a lot. And he is looking more and more like the #1 pick. Look how we used Josh and Wiggs. We will do that to you. We will get you ISO's open 3s and get you out in transition to show off your athleticism.
We finally have something to sell MPJ. We didn't before.
And while I do agree that his incoming class could save him, he has had stud classes the last 4 or 5 years. And what has happened, he hasn't been able to keep them on the team. He has had 6 players (not including walk-ons) that have transfered, quit or been kicked off of the team. Something is wrong with that picture. And as good of a class as he has coming in, there are a ton of red flags around that program right now.
