Rodgers-to-Denver deal still alive ? • Feb 18, 2022 06:36 PM

@focojayhawk said in Rodgers-to-Denver deal still alive ?:

Grew up in Wisconsin and a big Packer fan. I now live in Colorado and listen to sports talk radio here. It is uncanny how much the talk here sounds like a deal is already done to get Rodgers. Denver has been so starved for a QB post-Manning and it almost screams of desperation how much assuming is going on here. The talk is their first & second round picks both this year and next plus a player for Rodgers and the talking heads here have already aligned with that going forward.

As a Packer fan, I'm on the fence. Rodgers has clearly underachieved in the postseason (not all his fault, but for sure some is), but their team is still a contender. That said, the iron will never be hotter and they'll likely not get as much in return if they wait. GB is gonna have to be like everyone else eventually in their search for a QB (not looking good with Jordan Love) so the possibility of having a lot of draft capital to either find a QB or build around another is intriguing.

I'm curious what Chiefs fans would want...for the Broncos to mortgage their future to get 2-3 years out of Rodgers or to go in a different direction?

If I am GB, and I see Cousins, Fields and Goff as the division QBs there is just no way I am not keeping 12. There is absolutely nothing that Denver can offer to give up that level of QB play in a division all but guaranteeing 5 or 6 wins, in a playoff structure benefiting the #1 seed so much.

I do think Denver should move Heaven and Earth to get him. They have a lot of gifted young players and could probably win a SB if they went all in for Rodgers for two seasons like they did with Manning. Jeudy, Patrick, Sutton and Fant with Rodgers would be insane. Javonte Williams at RB too... That would be a damn good team.

At the same time, I'm really not worried? We have another 12+ years of Pat I think. We will get another one. You can't win them all, and the move makes perfect sense for Denver.

But again - GB would be silly to let him walk. This is the time you go all-in. Push out EVERYONE's cap hit as far as you can. Sign the best Free Agents. Start a 3 year plan. Year 4, blow it all up and start a rebuild. Picks may or may not pan out. Rodgers is the real deal and if you can get 3 more tries at a SB run when the rest of your division is in a terrible spot you do it.

@BeddieKU23 It is going to be a fight for that last #1 seed. A bit worried we have to win out to get it

Jalen's PER in conference play is 2nd on the team.

Dave- 27.9, Jalen- 23.4, Och- 21.7, Zach 21.1, CB 15.8

This team is really good. Like for real. Can't wait for them to break my heart.

HIGH DRAMA • Feb 18, 2022 02:15 PM

The authors pulled it lol.

To not finish first, KU will have to lose 3 of their next 6, and Baylor or TTU would have to go undefeated.

Tech could do it if they win at UT on Saturday. Baylor could do it, but will need to win at home against us and on the road in Austin as well.

Barring a pretty unlikely meltdown the B12 is locked up.

HIGH DRAMA • Feb 17, 2022 04:30 PM

@BShark This I would believe.

HIGH DRAMA • Feb 17, 2022 02:27 PM

Why would we let Kafka walk if EB wasn't coming back? Wasn't he the de facto choice to replace EB when he was gone?

HIGH DRAMA • Feb 17, 2022 02:17 PM

My B.S. meter is going off pretty big on this one.

Do we actually believe EB had 100% of playcall duties with no ability for Reid to override him? Pretty sure Trav just said the other day there was no reason he didn't get a job.

I'm not here saying I wouldn't rather have another OC. I just don't think this is the reason the team lost. And I very much question the authors.

@BeddieKU23 The 12-13 team is such a heartbreaker. Took a lot of things going wrong in 11 seconds for them to not. Sad that season won't get remembered, because that team was fun. Lone season of BMac. 4 seniors in the starting lineup.

The 11-12 team I really never know how they did what they did. Had two walk-ons in the rotation. The 2nd most overachieving team in KUBB history.

When Remy makes it back... • Feb 16, 2022 03:19 PM

We are just an imperfect team.

When you are an imperfect team you have to figure out which strategy you want to adopt. You can either press the pedal down and try for the highest seed in the tournament you possibly can to give you the best path. Or you can take your foot off the gas, let your guys heal/rest, and then accept that the tournament is chaos. But chaos that you can go into with a healthy team vs. lingering issues.

Bill always chooses the former over the latter.

Kenpom rating vs NCAA tourney success • Feb 15, 2022 07:38 PM

@BeddieKU23 I guess my thought is that the defense can be better if the guys are engaged. Last season it almost HAD to be better just to only lose 9 games. This year, they have gotten to coast a bit... Get up 10, then coast for a few minutes. They lose that momentum/engagement.

You can see what this team does when they are (and mostly CB honestly) engaged. Baylor and Mizzou are prime examples of what a hyped team are capable of bringing.

I do agree the offense can get better. Just Joe making wide open 3s at .384 like he is capable vs. .226 and Zach getting PT improves the offense pretty significantly.

Kenpom rating vs NCAA tourney success • Feb 15, 2022 07:18 PM

I really think this team is even better than they've shown. Last season basically this exact same group was 4 points better defensively than they have been so far this year. I know MG was a special defender, but Harris is no slouch. It isn't like we went from MG to some scrub.

It also feels like Bill isn't done tinkering quite yet. He's got a few more levers to pull, and that is almost refreshing to think about in February. Basically, we aren't hitting our stride/reaching that full potential but he's trying. Historically it has felt like he just goes down to 7-8 man rotations in January and that is it for the season. Not this year. Not yet.

All of this to say, I feel like this team can make a run at the whole thing. History is not on their side given their rating, but I also think this team is probably better than their kenpom rating. While other teams have probably played better than they are capable of for a 6 game stretch, our group seems like they have another gear they just haven't shifted to quite yet. Something about this group just feels special to me.

When Remy makes it back... • Feb 15, 2022 05:46 PM

Remy isn't going to play another second for KU, imo.

From here on it is all a PR campaign. Bill doesn't want to play him (for a lot of reasons), but doesn't want to get burned recruiting. Remy needs Bill to say that Remy was a great kid/teamate/player that just had some bad luck.

I could be wrong, but that is what I'm seeing right now.

2021-22 PER's & Stats • Feb 15, 2022 04:03 PM

@BeddieKU23 When he got the lob bucket last night, it just felt like a big moment to me. Where he showed he was big and strong enough to push another big man around. I'm sure Bill was pleased

2021-22 PER's & Stats • Feb 15, 2022 03:42 PM

This is like the exact thing we needed in order to keep both him and KJ I think. I was a little bit worried that we would lose one of them, but I'm hoping this is a good sign.

I admit I was HARSH on Zach early in the year. But he keeps putting up good numbers, and good things happen with him on the floor. At this point I'm really hopeful that him and KJ both hang around and anchor the front court. I think we are going to be spoiled next season.

I'd hate to say it is looking pretty good, but the way I'm looking at it a share of the B12 title is basically in hand. Baylor has to win out and we have to drop 2 of our next 6.

We have WVU, KSU, Baylor, TCU, TCU and UT.

That WVU game is a bit of a trap game, but they just don't have the horses. KSU already had their superbowl against us and it wasn't enough. Baylor will be ready for the next matchup. But TCU we should get both of those.

Baylor has @ Tech and @ UT left on their schedule. I think it'll be tough for them to win out.

What’s our guard situation again next year? Harris, Yes, and who’s coming in?

Plus Bobby and Cuffe. Might go portal. Not really after any HS guards right now.

Yea I'm hoping Cuffe has both shown he belongs, AND his team isn't in a rush to get him PT. Feels like the way we've been recruiting says that is the case

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:10 AM

Just feels like Kansas basketball again. Finding two midseason contributors just from mixing up the bench is so nice

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:05 AM

Lol that had nothing to do with out of a timeout Fran. It was Och literally not being guarded for who knows what reason

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 03:02 AM

@BeddieKU23 Also when Bill puts in some lineup like Harris, Yes, JCL, Wilson and Mitch/KJ just to compound the lack of momentum lol

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 02:58 AM

Dave's PPP is absurd tonight. And we are shooting 29% from 3. You'd think they might help off a bit. But no complaints from me

This is seriously one of the worst offensive teams I've ever seen in P5 basketball I swear. Even Huggy, in his WORST offensive seasons, is able to roll out something better than this

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 02:48 AM

Big @BShark halftime stat. 14 threes taken. Pacing to be our most in B12 play. The TTU loss was our most with 26

God I hope. He grabbed 3 rebounds in 2 minutes. I was sort of shocked he only got 2 minutes. Didn't look like he was a negative on the court to me.

Also Dave can't do another 18, so SOMEONE is going to get some minutes. Hope it is him or KJ

Dave comes ALIVE

18 minutes that half. Unsustainable amount of PT for him, but he was playing really well down the stretch there.

Maybe he needs to start doing sprints or something before the game to settle down a bit. Played really well when he had to be a little gassed.
