@konkeyDong Nah, that's not bad acting, that's Oscar worthy. Selden absolutely did not touch him, that was a BS foul.
P.S. My name is Doug Gottlieb, my hiney hurts because my team got beat and and KU wont make it to the Final Four but my team will
I used to kind of like him but now he can eat a big dirty hotdog.
@nuleafjhawk Chanting Overrated cha cha chachacha Overrated!
@REHawk Loved that article on Wigs! Great stuff. Thanks Jason!
@Blown Just watch from home or the bar dude.
@drgnslayr No way Okie state is a trap game. They have probly the best chance of stealing the league title from us and Coach knows it, the players know it. If there is any game that's a trap game, its WVU in our last conference game when theoretically we have it already wrapped up.
@bskeet Man, I like that ESPN video on Wiggins. Makes a good case for him being the best. With regards to Kellog's take on OAD's, I think Wiggs is the real deal. That being said, I think his parents will be there to give him advice so he can make the best decision for himself. I also think $ will not be a factor in his case. His Fam clearly is very well off. Im happy he is a Jayhawk, short lived as it maybe.
@jaybate 1.0 Is it too early to start talking about KU running the table? I mean I personally don't buy it but right now the thought does cross my mind, just a little bit.
@approxinfinity I said it before and I'll say it again. Great win for our Jayhawks!!!
@nuleafjhawk Haha! Great laughs. Even better win for our Jayhawks!!!
@jaybate 1.0 Coach Self seems to be thinking outside the box so to speak regarding this team and its insane depth into the bench. I fully expected him to "pick one" and cut the rotation to 7-8 guys like he normally does. But, he hasn't done that this year. There is a bit about Hoiberg on the Bleacher Report saying he is the hottest coach in Div 1 right now. Sure he has got a good pedigree and all that, has turned ISU around from lowly punching bag to a legit threat in the Big12. But, if Coach Self can get a conference title, possibly a tournament title and a deep run in the NCAA tourney, he should absolutely be considered for Coach of the Year. I mean this is his youngest team since he has been at KU and possibly in his career, and at the moment they seem to be improving every game. Its so much fun and exciting to watch. RCJH!
@KUSTEVE on first impression it struck me as pertaining to the strong link between both of them while they are on court, in the game. Didn't really think about race while reading this.
@drgnslayr Hell ya! Rock Chalk Tarik. Ive also been impressed with Selden,Embiid, Perry and Traylor diving after 50/50's
@nuleafjhawk Yah, Im with KUSteve. They will whine anyways, no matter what. On Monday lets see if Naadir goes off for 39. No, I take that back. Even better would be 10pts, 10+ assists, 10 boards
@JayDocMD OMG REALLY!? That's Hilarious!!!
@nuleafjhawk just a killer game for KU today. Good win. I saw guys playing hard out there. I saw good defense, for the most part. I saw Wayne and Wigs make a ton of shots! AND EMBIID FOR 3!!!!! That was awesome.
Now... whose next? Iowa St? It will be tough to go there and grab a W but if KU wins, it will be huge. The conference will not be easy to win at all this year. WVU just about beat Okie state just now, they lost by one point. Sure Cobbins is out but they almost got beat by WVU! Werent they last in the league last year or close to it? Our boys better be geeked for every game. I think they will be. Like Coach said, its second season. It also seems that the coaches are in their ears more about playing hard every possession during conference.
@JayDocMD I also don't necessarily believe we need Turner. In speculation of next years line up, We'd get Naadir, Oubre/Selden, Ellis, Alexander,Embiid. I realize The Designer isn't a 3 man this year but if Coach Self wanted him to start then he would HAVE to consider sliding him down one spot.
Think about that for one second, just think. I mean, That line up!? Its insane. Easily the best KU will have fielded since ever. I mean the NCAA can just give KU the title in 2015, game over, We'd like to thank everyone who lost.
And by no means am I discounting this years team out of any potential run to the final four when I say this. I still like this years Jayhawks. Fans like us appreciate every team we get.
@JayDocMD I think he stays, and until I see otherwise, I'll continue to believe that. Kids got a good head on his shoulders, he wants to improve, and he may not be satisfied with his level of play by seasons end, in which case he sticks around another year to get better. Kind of like Marcus Smart did last year
@drgnslayr We shoulda used a shank in the Gtown game. Those a-holes almost permanently injured Perry. Dirty players the lot of em.
@jaybate 1.0 Awww man, the less than average line from Embiid suggests he has an eye injury hindering his sight and he didn't like wearing the goggles. Eye injuries heal faster than pretty much anything else. He'll be fine by the Kstate game.
Coach Self absolutely will have them geeked up for every conference game he can possibly have them up for. Until I see it not happen, that 10th straight title belongs to KU, hung up on the rafters! That conference championship net cut up and pass out to all the players and the NCAA tournament teams that have to play us will say KU is just a name but there wont be any conviction to those words! They will know then that KU is a centennial force to be reckoned with on the court! Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Now Lets get some!
@HighEliteMajor I agree doubly so. But I also think that Tarik is still capable of having a big game for us and should be higher in the rotation.
@drgnslayr Another positive thing to note. This is about our losses so far. Sure we have taken 4 pretty hard losses, and earlier than we have taken them since 05. BUT, we have not lost one game by double figures. We have not been run out of the gym and blown out. Despite the apparent lack of Team chemistry right now, they are losing by just a few measly points. In 05 we had 4 losses by this time and one of them was a butt whipping by Arizona by 16 or so. That KU team was not too much older than KU is right now. I really don't think the sky is falling or that KU doesn't have a chance to win the conference or make a run at cutting down nets in March. Quite the opposite in fact, and until another team proves otherwise, both conference titles go thru Lawrence. They have to get through us first and it wont be easy.
@drgnslayr Bahh, I almost threw something at Doug when he said that KU doesn't have a true PG. BS! We have two. But Naadir isn't the first one in a decade... He is the first one since Collins.
I maybe an amateur at seeing the game and its intricacies but I firmly believe that all your points DRGN, the pace, drive, dish, 3pt, vocalizing, press breaking and passing and TO's; we have that now and Naa, like you said, is showing signs that he can be good when he wants to be. Not to mention, we haven't had a PG with a >2:1 asst/TO ratio since Collins and Russell.
Another thing, Frank Mason. He may be just a Frosh but the kid is fearless. He is a PG, He is Collins 2.0. He will lead us to greatness in his years to come.
@Blown Oh man, that does not sound good at all. Very ominous in fact. By what you just said, it seems as if Coach Self is dealing with the same 'Tudes that Calipari is over at Kensucky with his load of OAD primadonnas. Does not bode well for a title this year.
@HighEliteMajor One last last thing, HEM to add to your #3. The lack of 3pt shooting will greatly increase the chances of a round 1 upset. Just like 04 and 05
@HighEliteMajor Just want to say... Dam dam dam dam dam dam & DAM!!!
oh yah, and KU could not hit the side of a barn from 5 feet with a shotgun last night.
@jaybate 1.0 Question. Dr James Naismith, the inventor of the game and the first coach at KU clearly had a major impact upon the sport. How far reaching was that impact, that inspiration? Being one of the first coaches of the game, could these other coaches that you mention have distant ties to the DR?
@jaybate 1.0 Sherron did us right good and he wasn't much over 5'10. Mason seems in many ways, like a young Sherron.
@JayHawkFanToo Im showing my bias here but Wilt Chamberlain is the G.O.A.T
@nuleafjhawk JoEl Embiid shocks the nation and returns to KU to win another National Title1
@jaybate 1.0 One more thing. Kenpom also says that KU's offense hasn't been this potent since 2010. That is saying something.
@jaybate 1.0 I have to agree with Jaybate on this one. I look at Kenpom fairly regularly and KU currently has the top 25th Defensive Efficiency. 25th! ntil They haven't been that porous on D according to Kenpom since 05. Which was a good team, young and inexperienced though. Took them awhile to get good enough at Self Defense, until 07. Don't get me wrong HEM, I really am on board with why KU can win a ring this year, I just don't want to hold my breath for it. That 05 team got bounced in the first round to one of those killer B teams. I don't want it to happen this year anymore than any of you all but man, if they cant start locking down on defense, they wont make it. No team since Kenpom started keeping track has one a title without top 10 offense and defensive efficiency. Maybe there has been one time, but still. Its rare.
All that being said, I have great hope that KU will figure it out soon and be the toughest team to beat come march. I even think Naa can get better.
@jaybate 1.0 Jaybate's got jokes.
@jaybate 1.0 Seriously, that is some funny stuff!
@approxinfinity Hey! That sounds like an AC/DC song. lol
@jaybate 1.0 Definitely missed Jaybate basketball prose.
@jaybate 1.0 P.S. keep us posted on when your book is due out.
@jaybate 1.0 Once again, welcome back man. Good to have you.
Personally, I think that's a brilliant idea.
Huge and long team, deadly scoring capabilities, killer D capabilities.
Whats the down side? Coach Has to try this line up. And besides Perry will be a 3 man in the League anyways. It would be a disservice to him if he didn't get a chance to build his outside skills more before going to the next level.
@JayDocMD Another question for you all. What IF Embiid has a good head on his shoulders too and wants to develop more at KU before declaring?
It really could happen. The kid seems to have his head on straight, especially with his father being an officer in the military of his country. But, its also just as likely he goes #1 this year.
@ParisHawk Embiid by seasons end could be as feasible of a #1 pick as anyone in the draft coming up
@JayDocMD Im doubting very seriously that Selden is a OAD. Unless he has the maturity level and ego of Josh Selby, I really think he sticks around another year at KU to develop into a sure fire lottery pick. That's just my gut feeling.
@jaybate 1.0 Welcome back to the fold Jaybate! Happy Holidays
@Hawk8086 IMO, I don't see Selden leaving. I think he comes back for another year to develop. Especially if we get bounced earlier than we'd like in the NCAA's
@Careful you I think it speaks volumes about how good KU will be at seasons end, toward March Madness. All the top broadcasters or whatever seem to be cooling off on KU and Wiggins, which is fine with me. In 08, not many of them picked KU to win it all, it was UNC or Memphis. Now, they seem to be drinking Ohio state cool aid and Arizona cool aid. If you check each of their SOS/ RPI's, its not even close to KU's. Our youth still might be a factor in the conference with a couple of unexpected losses but Im cool with a couple more bruises along the way if it makes them stronger in the end.
One last thing, Wigs needs to ramp it up during conference. He really hasn't had to because everyone else has been able to pick it up nicely. But, we will need his game on point to have a better chance at winning the conference and going far in the big dance.
@Jesse Newell Nice! That's really cool stuff to see. Helps us amateurs learn the game too :)
Our KU team this year is very young and still inexperienced. They are still "soft" in areas they would never be normally. Releford telling them they are Soft defensively, not going after 50/50's and all that. I agree. Most, if not all of us agree.
They have a long road ahead of them to reach those goals of toughness and killer instinct that every team in the Self era has had before them. I hope that Releford's words spark them, make them mad, get them going. They need that extra spark this year, from a former player and excellent defensive presence that is Travis Releford. I love it when former players come into the locker room to chat with the current team. It has got to be humbling on some level for the current ones to hear that from the alums.
To switch gears a little bit, I took a peek at Kenpom just now and much to my surprise KU has a top 15 ranked defense and offense. It seems they are making progress because it wasn't long ago, when they were outside the top 20 in one or both of them. We cant really say it is because they have played a couple of easy games either. If you look at the top 20 teams in Kenpom right now. KU's Strength of Schedule is way way better than any of them. The next best one against KU's is literally double what KU's is. In order for KU to climb up the rankings once again they absolutely need to cut down on the TO's and fouls which should happen as they get more and more used to the rule changes. They also need to get a chip on their shoulder, they need to get pissed that Travis called them soft, they need to dive after lose balls and rack up the floor burns. Im not a betting man by habit but I will wager that the conference play will bring out the best in these guys. They don't want to be the ones who let the streak go.
RIght now, I cant say for sure if they will win the conference and go far in the NCAA's. But I sure as hell hope they will. They have the tools and the talent to do it.
@drgnslayr Id love to see KU and KState do an alternating home and home with Wichita St. It is very possible that the Shockers can step in to replace Mizzou in terms of rivalry. Well, ok not replace. Nothing could ever replace that rivalry, but certainly hold its own rivalry factor with KU and Kstate. Clearly Wich St is a good team and I agree that playing such a good mid major would be excellent practice for KU in terms of getting ready for the NCAA's. We've lost too many times to good mid major teams and this would help us for sure. Not to mention the $$ side that you thought out Drgn. Very well said.
@bskeet Good. I love it when former players come in and give our current guys the what for. They better listen up and pay heed. 3 more games to start getting the feel of how KU plays defense, then its the big time.
@ParisHawk Absolutely. And that Joel shark quote on the home page? Hilarious
Here is the link. Its a great story!
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1891203-meet-kansas-joel-embiid-a-cameroon-native-blossoming-into-a-top-nba-prospect ↗ ↗
And, I purposely spell Joel's name like that, its a Superman reference of course, The guy is a stud! Just imagine if he sticks around for one more year? I mean really, it could happen. If we don't win a title this year and if JoEL thinks he can learn more and get better at KU. Then the likelihood that we win the title in '15 is greatly enhanced. With what we will have returning and coming in, we could be even better next year. Pre season #1 type stuff.
