@JayHawkFanToo Thats pretty cool. Thanks for the info.
@DoubleDD ;) its all good
@DoubleDD I dont mean to be a weiner head but this is Royals baseball on the KU basketball section.
@justanotherfan He gets his chance, he better not blow it. He was right, he did get dealt a bad deck at KU, now he has to learn from it and grow as a person, player, teammate. Nothing is holding him back from making a D league team until he gets his game in order and has the time needed to show it to the NBA scouts.
@RockkChalkk Graham will be fine by August. Greene will be fine by August. KU is gonna be in the mix for a deep run in March given the extra experience with the shorter shot clock and extra practices and games. Playing Selden at the 3 seems like a great fit for him. Maybe that takes the pressure off of Svi to have a break out season and he does it anyways? My guess is that one of our upperclassmen get the start at the 5 until Diallo can get adjusted to Self's system but he may see starters minutes anyways. Can't keep a guy like that off the floor for very long. Dudes a stud. Bragg is coming along nicely too. Mikelson, so far, is giving us good minutes too. He keeps that up and Self has to play him.
Deep, experienced, talented, more advanced prep of the rule changes than most everyone else will be. Gonna be a killer season.
@wrwlumpy HA! great shot!
@bskeet and the Rock Chalk chant echo's thru the Sprint Center.
@Statmachine Gaaaaah! Wish I could watch the game on replay somewhere.
@jayballer54 Agreed on Minnesota. I said earlier that they will rise big like Golden State did in 4-5 years. I still have high hopes that Biid will play this season. There is 4 months left til the start of the NBA season. Thats a lot of time. He should be fine by then.
I didnt see the draft. Sucks that Cliff didnt get picked but he brought it on himself. Live and learn.
Kelly, full of youthful exuberance, He'll learn too. He wont be as good as Wigs, maybe not even as good as Ben but he'll do ok for himself.
@Statmachine Nice! Way to go Wayne! Ohhhh close game.
@Statmachine Mason = stud. I think we can put to bed the argument about how Mason is Sherron 2.0
@bskeet LoL, KU announcers keep saying end of the half after each quarter.
@bskeet Whats Mason's stat line? Its a close game so far. Anyones game.
@bskeet anyone got a box score handy?
@bskeet ditto.
@drgnslayr When can you officially apply or whatever? I think its a great idea.
@drgnslayr Yeah, I cursed Towns all last season cuz of UK and Calimari. Now though, I hope him and Wigs and Lavine and Rubio ( I hope they keep him ) and Tyus Jones can improve like Golden State has over the last 4-5 years.
@wrwlumpy Great post, solid post. Well written. I fully agree. RCJH!
@Kubie Yep. Well he has a good chance to make a roster during the Summer League games. If Tarik can do it, so can Cliff.
Is everyone as excited as I am for more Jayhawk basketball??
Man! I wish the game was televised! If anyone is going, might they be able to record the game and post it on the Tube? ? ?
Who wins this game tonight? I'll go with KU, just because Im biased. But I think Canada has a good chance at stealing one from us tonight, now that both teams are more familiar with eachother and Canada is more familiar with the fiba rules.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Me too!!!
@jaybate-1.0 link text ↗ KC Sports Column, Kerkhoff article on KU and WUG's
@Crimsonorblue22 Is there an article somewhere talking about Jack@$$ Harry being done!? I want to see it.
@Crimsonorblue22 THAT WAS EPIC!!!
Btw, Yes Jack@$$ Harry, Yes it is a birth right to finish #1 every year. KU OWNS THE BIG 12!
@jaybate-1.0 I appreciate your approach to this issue Jaybate but I think it might be a tad pessimistic. Coach Self is a tenacious competitor. Why would he take on a project to represent our country if he did not think he had at least a fair chance to win it, or at least come from behind, sneak up on some unsuspecting teams and win a medal? ( Im referencing the '12 team)
I do agree about the Jersies though. Why put KU on the front when we have two players from two other teams on the roster? Shouldnt it say USA anyways? I mean, Canada for example, those guys didnt have the name of their current or former schools on their shirts.
I like seeing KU out there, I really do, but I think we should be representing the USA not KU. Even though the SMU and FAU players have indirect ties to KU, it is kind of insulting to their respective schools in a way.
However, the injuries creating the open spots on KU's roster werent exactly planned for or foreseen as possible.
@drgnslayr I think thats brilliant! You have my vote for sure. As long as said media devices on the bench are not being used for social media like twitter and facebook, then I do not see why it should be a problem. I remember some time ago when the twitterverse was created, something about NBA players posting during games and it being banned by the NBA. Never heard of it being addressed by the college game at all.
@jaybate-1.0 Im sure Im not alone when I say I wish Svi and Diallo could play for KU this summer. I agree with you that we need those guys at peak to make a good run next season.
I dont know how Coach will make it happen but I think he will. Since he has been at KU he has never lost in the first round of the NCAA's more than 2 times in a row.
@wrwlumpy Brandon was the best of the three. Of course I am biased though.
@wrwlumpy who has gas?
@drgnslayr I really think we need another x KU player on the bench. Id love to see Miles in there! Paul Pierce, Scot Pollard, Sherron, all other guys I would like to see there.
@jaybate-1.0 But seriously, out of the Big 12 schools. Jury's out on the new Iowa St coach. What does he like to run for offense anyways? If I had to pick one school I would pick Texas Tech because in order for them to have a prayer at winning, they'll need to keep the tempo slow, possessions and scoring low, focus on defense. Kstate could be down there too.
I wouldnt pick KU. Coach Self will let his guys run more this year. Im betting on it. I mean, normally he sticks pretty close to the Div 1 median for pace/tempo. Not too fast, not too slow. I think being able to coach this summer with a much shorter clock will help him feel comfortable letting his guys go out there and run more, create more. They'll have to if they really want a shot at winning a medal.
I feel really very good at KU's chances this coming season. We have experience and we have talent and we have a deep bench. All important parts of the final four hopes. KU, I think, will be able to break 30 wins this season and be loads better on offense, having gotten the chance to play in the WUG's the 30 second shot clock will seem like an eternity while to everyone else it will seem too fast at first. KU is gonna be real good this season, I can feel it.
Last nights game was a small sample size, I know, but they beat a pretty good Canada team and KU is only gonna improve from here.
RCJH!!
@jaybate-1.0 Syracuse! Oh wait, nevermind.
@bskeet So, next exhibition game on friday??
@bskeet Frank Mason is a stud
@RockkChalkk Crap, crap, crap, crap and more crap! I just read this! Damm, another injury? This sucks. I hope he recovers quickly.
@jaybate-1.0 I think the Cavs/Warriors series would have gone to 7 games had the Cavs been healthy. Kyrie vs Steph is basically a wash. LBJ is a difference maker, the greatest player of all time but he got regularly checked by Iggy. Love would have been exposed on the defensive side of the ball. I still think the Warriors would have won it with the Cavs at full strength. But, a much much closer game.
@jaybate-1.0 Is Curry not the best shooter in the league right now? I mean at the rate he is going, he will shatter the record for all time 3pta's made and push it out so far that noone will break his record for a very very long time.
@drgnslayr You are right, he would be perfect in a run and gun type team! Wigs can absolutely guard 1-4 of the Warriors starting line up.
@drgnslayr But ISU doesnt have Hoiberg anymore. How will that affect how that team plays?
@drgnslayr Again, I am betting that he gets to experiment with this during the WUGs. What if he likes it and it sticks?
@justanotherfan That very same line up you just mentioned, they might actually get to experiment with in the WUGs! What if CS likes it and thinks it might help push him over the hump this season? Ohhh the possibilities, I tell ya.
@drgnslayr Yes! You know, I was just thinking about that concept while watching the game again. Im not sure if it would translate as well to the college game though because obviously the players are not as skilled in the OAD era. That whole hypothesis of @jaybate-1.0 rings pretty true in CBB. Although, UConn did do this very same thing when they won it. Small ball, play fast, wear out your opponent and shoot lights out from "fools gold land"
@drgnslayr That is awesome!
@JayHawkFanToo Jurys still out on JoJo and his healing genetics. We all know this but, him healthy will equate to Olajuwon.
@DoubleDD in Snacks' case, its not cigar smoke filling that back room. HA!
So, fellow Jayhawk fans, I am planning a visit to Springfield Mass on Sept 10th to see Jojo White get immortalized in the Bball HOF.
A few questions
Who is interested/capable of going?
Should I attempt to heckle Calipari? :smirk: :smirk:
Im on the fence about it. On one hand, I want to represent the Jayhawk Nation with class.
On the other, would you want to stick it to Calipari if you got the chance? I sure do. Nothing vulgar or threatening but definitely Calipari sucks type stuff.
Tickets are not expensive and I live 4 hours from there. Either way, it should be a cool experience to visit a shrine of basketball. Notice, I did not say The Shrine cuz we all know where that is (AFH).
ROCK CHALK!
@jaybate-1.0 UNC just got a slap on the wrist for their Level 1 violations.
Not that I wanted to see Ole Roy go down in flames, I dont, at all.
But, its big money man, its killing the game. That age old adage of power corrupts rings true in college bball.
I still love the game, always will. But, I think Phog Allen and Dr Naismith must be very upset where ever they are right about now.
@globaljaybird Sports science and medicine in general has advanced soooo much since the days when a player got this type of injury, it would put them down. Now, they caught JoJo's injury early and have multiple teams of physicians working on him. I think he has a great chance to be able to play again. Its just going to take a lot longer than we had hoped. He may not get to play until next season, who knows at this point.
@Crimsonorblue22 I saw that on ESPN also. Im no orthopaedic surgeon but it sounds as though the 76ers are doing their best to ensure the best possible out come for JoJo. It really sucks right now to see that he is going to have to sit on the bench even longer. But, hopefully once he is healed, he will make us proud.
Get well soon JoJo! RCJH!
@ralster Dont we play UK this season @ AFH? That is going to be nuts! I hope we beat those guys by 45 points.
