I am going to say it everyone, so go ahead and crucify me. I - and I respect him as a player - don't want Marcus to return. Don't think it would be beneficial for him or the team.
@AsadZ not just the injuries, he wasn't ready.
But we already have Dick. How would having both him and Klintman work?
I like Harris, think he'll be solid. Surprised at the Thompson news, but it is what it is. Wow, going to be damn near a whole new team next season. How many returnees?
@BeddieKU23 Phlandrous?
@BShark so, what are you saying? Bring back Glen Mason π? Does he have anything left in the tank?
@BeddieKU23 not surprising. I'm not saying that it would be a wise decision for him to leave, only that he probably will. I mean, how many NBA teams are there and how many players per roster? Really, not good odds.
@BShark How long is the Adidas contract for, again? π

Och is doing the right thing... testing the waters. He will learn where his game needs to improve. He is nowhere near ready for the NBA. I think this move will help him and KU next year because he will focus on improving his weak areas.
He's going to have to be a lot more aggressive in his play and put up bigger numbers... especially in crunch games.
no he's not. he's been focusing on improving his weak areas for 3 years. his numbers were just fine this year and probably wont improve much. Self plays a team offense that will spread the scoring around and still focus on Mccormick. I believe Och will always be a very solid player but always be a secondary scorer on any team. i think his draft status next year will look very similar to his status this year. He probably should have left after his freshman season when he was in most mock drafts based on his future projections
Preach.... I don't think his draft stock would improve much, if any, if he decided to come back (do I want him to? Yeah. But that's selfish me talking), especially with the added depth and talent - with more to come - that we have coming in. His playing time could actually decrease next season.

Yeah, he's not even going to play college ball.

@AsadZ I already gave an opinion on this, but it might simply be that he thinks it would be cool to work with Beard and is looking forward to recruiting kids to the $300 million facility.
Not to mention basically only having to recruit in one state. If you can recruit in Texas, well,,, you win....
l
Basketball recruiting in Texas is not even remotely the same quality of depth as football recruiting is. There's just simply not enough high level talent to sustain multiple P5 programs.
I didn't say that it competed with football, but there is talent there.

Are we going to have Christian B1, and Christian B2? I mean, we are a public school. What about the establishment clause, for ------'s sake?
One is even a bishop!!
That's good π

Seems like the final state of the roster ends with the addition of Christian Bishop and TyTy.
If we can land those two, look out.

@Oldmanhawk As Gooden showed you can come back and get the degree whenever. There is a limited clock on earnings with a physical sport.
I would love for him to be back, but believe he will be gone.
Ditto. But he's gone. I wish him well.

@tis4tim well obviously its better for Self to have starting talent sitting on the bench. but none of them except maybe Lightfoot considers themself a bench player. and thats what will result in some transfers once some of these recruits figure out they miscalculated their odds of getting significant playing time.
Perhaps Mitch will be Howardβs replacement?
π
Okay, we've all debated this, but I am now asking for opinions yet again. I think that we'll know something - whatever the punishment - very soon. What will it be? Opinions.... I think that we will get off relatively light.
How many years (I'm being lazy, as usual) of eligibility does Yesufu have? No doubt that he is a player, I saw a Drake game and was onboard for them making the tournament. He is going to start for us.
@BShark said in Yesufu to KU (Drake PG Transfer):
@bennie Good to be back to that because the bench sucked this year.
No doubt.
But the guy (am I wrong?) shot fairly well from deep in HS, right?

I really hope we don't bring back Danny. He is not good.
your 100 % wrong. - -He was one of the best at developing big men when he was here before. No one has come close ever since
What they are saying @jayballer67 is, "yeah, he did good things with our bigs" but Danny didn't and can't recruit. He didn't put in the necessary time and work. Howard went to Texas. Why? Because it'll be easy, basically recruiting in state. An easy and lucrative out for him.
Great news!
I am really starting to like the make-up of our team for next season. Starting lineup opinions anyone?l First four off the bench?
@BeddieKU23 said in 2021 Transfer Talk/List:
Yep Askew never looked comfortable either. One thing Calimari always wants is athletic guards and Askew wasn't that, he struggled shooting as well which just made it worse for him
Anyone wanna take bets that Calimari will soon be leaving Kentucky? I see him abandoning ship and coaching in the NBA very soon.
@BShark said in So- with all these players coming and going, what is next years team gonna look like?:
I think next year is very likely a bridge year for KU anyway. One reason I like the Martin addition is it lets us take the pressure off other bigs having to contribute right away. Zach needs a year in our s&c program.
Agree. Our punishment will "finally!"be handed out by then. And Coach is coach - a great move - for as long as he wants to be, so the "Self is going to retire soon" argument won't be able to be used anymore.
Kansas has signed Bill Self to what amounts to a lifetime contract. It is load up time - had to squash the rumors that he would soon retire.
When I look at the bigs (even with Gethro this year who hardly saw the court) the past two and this next season it seems that there has been a positive recruiting shift. That being said, wouldn't want another coach.
@BeddieKU23 Probably just threw out a feeler to cover our bases. Doubt that we're investing alot of time and effort.
@mayjay agree on all accounts, especoally Stephen A. Smith. He is so intentionally annoying as to be absolutely absurd, and imo also an obvious racist.
They just pass and pass and pass, until someone makes a shot. And they don't slouch on D either.
A great team. Yeah, I'll admit it, love how they play.
I want Gonzaga to win. Both teams beat us, but SC trounced us in the tourney. Hope that they get their asses handed to them.
Bigtime get.
@BShark that sucks... But good for your buddy.
With all of the hardworking wings at our disposal he just couldn't find the court, but he has talent and seems to be a team player. Hope he finds a good landing spot.
I've never seen a more balanced, efficient D-1 college team? Am I wrong?

This is just my opinion... but I don't think Baylor matches up well with Gonzaga. I think if the championship game is these two teams Gonzaga wins. I see some definite flaws in the Baylor defense and feel certain Gonzaga will exploit them.
I think Gonzaga's tough game is tomorrow, with USC. USC is not nearly as polished as Gonzaga, but they are more athletic, have height and play smart ball. If USC comes with all that enthusiasm and they make some shots, I think they can take a lead and pressure Gonzaga into speeding up and losing composure. I think USC will take away a lot of those easy baskets Gonzaga gets on most teams by exploiting weak areas.
Maybe I jinx USC... haha... I'm good at that!
BTW: Kudos to Drew! We've watched him get out-coached for years. But the guy has worked hard and paid his dues. I believe he remained humble and fought to become a better coach and it worked. There is no way Baylor is this good this year without a coach who put it all together. I hope he continues to bring tough teams because the Big 12 benefits, including Kansas!
I'm excited to see that Houston - Baylor game. On paper, Baylor should win this game (and I think they will)... but hard to count out Houston. Sampson is tricky and his guys play tricky, too. I'm hoping for a wild game!
i think Gonzaga is going to have problems with Baylor's - - guards of Teague - - Butler -& Mitchell Toss in Meyer - I think it will be classic. - -this Gonzaga / Baylor is the best match up possible
That might a good game, but Baylor has shown that they have off games being able to shoot from deep, Gonzaga never does.
@BShark Can't wait too long though. Need to snag a PG ASAP.
@jayballer67 said in Gonzaga:
No, thank you. I never root for another Big12 team to win the championship.
something wrong with you then. The better they do - -the tougher the teams look , the better we look. - -Only time I won't pull for another Big 12 team is when they are playing us. Other then that the more our league wins the better the Whole conference looks others se how hard it is to compete in this league the better we look
Difference of opinion. I don't root for another conference team to win the chip, ever.
No, thank you. I never root for another Big12 team to win the championship.
Watching them for the 1st time today. They being number one and undefeated I obviously knew that they had to be good, but man, those guys are well coached and very skilled.

Yeah, probably sour grapes lingering from when he used to regularly get his ass beat by us when he coached at K-State.
When are we are cool to sign with Nike? π
Looks like the entire Florida team is leaving. All is not well there.
