@VailHawk

What a mystery he is.

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 04:30 AM

@DoubleDD

The Rooster better have a 100 plus up votes before long.......he's earned it!

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 04:24 AM

@Bwag

Unfortunately that is a side effect of an up tempo game in November.

Just glad we are shaking things up a bit.

Loving Bragg stretching the court and the touch on his shot.

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 04:20 AM

Getting out shot and out rebounded at half.

Glad we built a cushion early.

Regroup and come out strong after half.

Wear the Sparty down and then blow them out of the water late.

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 04:17 AM

Fairly pleased with the effort.

Especially on D.

Been some breakdowns, but not due to effort.

Great D on the last possession

FT shooting seems good for us too!

I think Greene has like 8 points on no FG attempts.

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 04:07 AM

@brooksmd

Exactly.......Izzo did his job bending the refs ear

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 04:04 AM

Graham is a wreck tonite.

BG gonna have to figure out how to create his own shot. MSU not letting him out of their reach.

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 03:59 AM

Love Bragg's game!

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 03:54 AM

We are out of control at times, but I love that we are playing up tempo. Will pay dividends later after MSU gases.

Kansas - Michigan State chat • Nov 18, 2015 03:41 AM

Jamari is a lot more athletic than the MSU bigs......he could be a difference maker tonite if he doesn't get stupid.

White lightning!

My dad was born in NE Kentucky, but they moved when he was 3 or 4.. About 20 years ago he and his uncle were back in his birthplace walking the "holler" to see whether any of his boyhood memories came back.

They stumbled on to an active still and we're face to face with a shotgun. Had my great uncle - a lifelong resident of the community and a little sketchy in his own right - not been there, Dad probably wouldn't have been since again. But after they convinced the Brewer Dad wasn't a federal they bought a of couple mason jars full and got out of there!

I have two memories of the stuff......felt like it melted my nose hair when I sniffed it and after being in the freezer for months, it never froze!.....scary stuff.

@Bwag I'll go with old enough to know better but still too young to care!

Unbelievable - Manager of the Year • Nov 18, 2015 01:13 AM

Royals picked in the pre-season to take 4th in the AL Central.......Ned guides them to the best record in the American League and a World Series title.......and Ned doesn't even finish in the top three of the AL Manager of the Year balloting!

Amazing!

All right, might as well • Nov 15, 2015 11:51 PM

@jayballer54

Yes. First game after the first semester is over.

Hawks 75 Sparty 66

@Texas-Hawk-10

I understand your point.

So when did the NCAA serve notice?

And did they levy a penalty for the whole season because Memphis ignored that warning.....whereas we complied immediately.

I don't know those answers.

@Texas-Hawk-10

It was my understanding that the NCAA made Memphis aware of the potential concerns regarding Rose and they played him anyway.

I did look it up and the official record shows Memphis was 0-1 that year.

@Texas-Hawk-10

My guess would be the attorney saw the facts, put some sound bytes out there to me it look like they were willing to cooperate, but behind the scenes told Cliff's family it would be best if you just moved on. Before you damage yourself and damage KU.

That being said it should only impact KU if it could be proven that they had knowledge of it. But you are right......who knows......they seem pretty unpredictable most of the time.

I think Walton is very intelligent and that he certainly knows the game. But his vocal tone, extreme west coast bias and spontaneous digression toward completely random thoughts are too much for me.

And while I despise Mushberger and Fran can rub me the wrong way when play ISU or Oklahoma........thank goodness we don't have to listen to Bill Walton every nite. That was torture!

@Hawk8086

I only watched about 10 - 15minutes of the Texas vs Washington game. But Shaka was running Some zone defense that didn't have many gimmicks......fouls had been significant.

If he runs that against KU we could absolutely light up the score board both from the perimeter and by spreading the court and working the hi-low or dribble drive..

When texas made their run on offense he used tempo to speed up the pace, and they had several coast to coast drives to the lane that put them on the line. He also spread the court from the half court set and let Taylor and Felix drive the lane.

Ibeh fouled out fairly early in the second half. Ridley had his moments, but I felt for the guy......his tail was dragging.

The rest breaks he took while playing zone defense saved his bacon ......not sure he could play up tempo offense, half court press defense in the back court on the inbound and man-to -man in the half court set.

But by the time we play him he'll probably be in the best shape of his life.

Tonights game and expectations • Nov 14, 2015 11:58 PM

@JhawkAlum

No worries. I watched the reply last nite. Wanted to watch again before I went to the office for a bit this morning, but it wasn't available in the replay queue.....just checked again and it still isn't.

Anyone know why?

Tonights game and expectations • Nov 13, 2015 11:52 PM

@JhawkAlum

If you browse by sport, choose men's college basketball and scroll to the right, it is the 4th of the 7:00 CST games. Right before UMES (???) vs K-State

Maryland Eastern Shore vs KSU , I guess.

Wow, seen some interesting Predictions • Nov 12, 2015 05:35 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 u
Your post is accurate and well articulated.

I would however offer two observations:

Our sheer number of available post players will help mitigate any propensity for foul trouble that Diallo might have. And while it would be ideal to have him on the court as much as possible.......any minutes are better than we are getting right now-even..... if it is just 7-10 minutes per game of free-for-all at a frantic pace. Until he learns better.

Secondly, the perception of a shot blocker can also be a strength. That perception can alter shots or cause the dribble driver to retreat or pass the ball out of traffic. I would contend that Joel and Withey altered / prevented far more shots than they ever blocked and they didn't even have to draw contact to do it. Just having that wingspan on the court will benefit us......especially if he has a bit of a reputation as an enforcer because of his aggressiveness.

I just hope we get the chance to see him prove us right or wrong!

Something Fishy • Nov 11, 2015 04:26 PM

@ralster

Money talks, especially if he is a projected lottery pick.

But I am also holding on to a glimmer of hope. Also holding on to hope that if the college experience didn't matter to him, he wouldn't have retained counsel to fight for Eligibilty......could have just as easily chosen to go through the motions, practice with the team and bolt for workouts with a personalized trainer as soon as the season is over......and not faught the NCAA.

Guess we'll see.

I wonder if the NCAA knows that Cliff Alexander didn't change his name to Cheick Diallo?

Interesting • Nov 10, 2015 04:14 AM

Noticed that KU now leads the crystal ball for Marques Bolden.....although the reason we took the lead is a bit worrsome.

Alabama has been gaining traction, as several analysts who had previously picked Duke have recently changed their picks to Alabama.

So we have jumped in the lead because Alabama has been taking The previous leader's votes.

One KU analyst has even picked the Tide.

Should be an opportunity to try a little bit of everything before Friday's opener.

FHSU will likely be down a bit this year as they lost a lot of their more athletic talent in the post due to graduation. Further their point guard (who is a smaller version of Frank Mason with just as much bulldog in him) is coming of an ACL surgery that seems to have slowed him down a few steps and changed his game.......whereas he used to split defenders and take his 5'9" frame to the goal now he seems to look to dish more. He was a DII All-American caliber point guard as a sophomore, but lost last year's second semester after the injury.

FHSU has been a mainstay near the top of the MIAA standings for many years, but was picked 6th in the preseason conference poll.

@wissoxfan83

Not sure of the exact context of the timeout call that you witnessed, but a coach can still call a time out. just not during a live ball situation.

I have some interesting news for the buckets folks. Our KU team is currently waging an all out recruiting battle trying to close on a couple guys. Cant say who but they are trying to CLOSE on a guy atm. Pretty cool and exciting to me that they are involved.

I am going to bet those two guys are Josh Jackson and Marques Bolden.

Pieces fallin in place • Nov 07, 2015 04:31 AM

@jayballer54

I like to do that too. There are some individuals that seem more in tune than others most of the time.

It is a tool and an unreliable one at that.

for a tool to be useful you have to know how it is made and how it works. And based on your comments, you obviously do.

To me it is best used to gauge which direction the wind is blowing, how hard it has blown and whether the direction is starting to shift.

Almost all of the time when there is a landslide consensus for one school at the time a recruit sets their announcement date, the direction won't won't change .......because by the time they set their date someone in their trusted circle has already spilled the beans......and the analysts have already reflected that.

I have found that the tool is a lot less effective for someone like Andrew Wiggins who keeps his decision close to the first and keeps a close circle. Or when there is not much seperation between the top two or three ranked schools.

my interpretation has been wrong before........and I hope it is on this one! I am intrigued by Udoka.

I do think the wind has started to shift on Bolden and that he will be a Jayhawk unless another 4-5 star big commits soon and pushes him elsewhere.

Pieces fallin in place • Nov 07, 2015 12:49 AM

@jayballer54
Crystal Ball has Udoka as an 88% lean toward Florida State. 6% to KU and Kentucky.

Crystal Ball is wrong all the time, but rarely that wrong.

Hope they are in this case......would be nice to have a true space eater in the paint.

@JhawkAlum

I agree and believe you will find similar a post if you review my posts from last spring/summer.

I also believe that if you do some research that you will find 24/7s Jerry Meyer tweeted that Diallo had Eligibilty concerns about two weeks before he signed with us......tough to find now but he did. He stated he thought there was a chance that Diallo would play overseas to avoid any NCAA bru-ha-ha that might result from his high schools ongoing scrutiny.

Despite that, I Then and now believe the decision to sign him no matter how slight the chance that he might be that he would play this year was good business.

As HEM (and others) stated previously, all of the incoming freshman on our radar had already signed elsewhere. And at the time Diallo signed we still had a scholarship or two in hand if the right transfer came about, as we were still chasing Eubanks, Coleby and eventually Vick.

We eventually gave that scholarship away and missed on the opportunity to land the 7'1" transfer from Providence.

I believe the Diallo signing was still was worth the risk.....even if he doesn't play this year.

because even if we backed off he could have still ended up at Kentucky or St. John's and played this year because other conferences don't penalize partial qualifiers as harshly as the Big 12......so we pass and as fate tends to do, we end up playing him in late January when the Wildcats come to town or in the big dance. Of course that doesn't even consider how much greasier the skids for NCAA clearance seem to be in Lexington than they tend to be in our neck of the woods.

Even if he never plays for us, the signing may have prevented us from playing against him later......plus we still have a slight chance of seeing play for us next year if this year doesn't work out.....remote, I know......but still a chance.

Worth the risk given that the closet was bare for impact players who could contribute this year.

And if Cheick has that intellectual aptitude and if Algebra is the problem, let him have the opportunity to quiz out......don't punish him just because the course May have been too easy - when Cheick could have potentially gotten through even if it had been a course that was up to standards.

Eligibility • Nov 05, 2015 09:22 PM

Anyone else think the NCAA will take the easy road and label Diallo a partial qualifier so that the Big 12 can be the bad guy?

Eligibility • Nov 05, 2015 09:19 PM

Was on the other site and saw the recurring comments about how stupid Self is for signing Diallo when he won't be eligible.

I just want to ask those people how they would feel if Self had pulled out of the Diallo sweepstakes and he ended up being eligible for ISU, Kentucky or St. John's (especially since the SEC and other conferences can allow partial qualifiers to compete).

Eligibility • Nov 05, 2015 09:15 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Wishful thinking on my part in hoping he appreciates Bill Self's investment of time and Self going to bat for him with the NCAA so much that he feels he owes KU something for its effort.......

........beyond that, I got nothing.

Post Recruiting Tea Leaves • Nov 05, 2015 09:07 PM

An interesting caveat following Herard's commitment to Ole Miss was that KU jumped from 29% to 41% in the Crystal Ball for Bolden.

Crystal Ball is imperfect and completely reliant upon perception.. Typically one predictor comes across insider information (or the perception thereof), changes his pick and then others begin to follow his lead if/when they come to question whether their info is as good as the new Guy's info.

None-the-less something happened yesterday to cause a few people to shift their choices from Duke to KU in the Bolden prediction.....and it Happened after Herard went elsewhere......take it for what it is worth.

Yes, started the game but found a seat in a couple of minutes because of two quick fouls.

Bragg started the second half in his place.

Another scenario.

Diallo is ruled ineligible.

We persevere this year with a talented squad, albeit short a key component.

But then Self pulls off the ultimate magic trick by pulling two rabbits out of the same hat........

.........as he convinces Cheick into sticking around one more year and we pair him on the post in 2016-17 with incoming blue chipper Marquis Bolden.

......just trying to make some lemonade out of the lemons the NCAA might send our way!
