Any word on why Tristan hasn't played today? Injury or just been so bad lately he's unplayable right now?

Refs also need to even out the calls. That was 8 on 5 most of the half. Vital should've had several more fouls called on him.

How the refs call the second half probably dictates who wins today.

Bill wanted to go 2-1 at the end and KU didn't do it. Self kept screaming GO to Dotson with 45 seconds left and Dotson just held it. Villanova end game Dotson made an appearance at the end of this half.

@nuleafjhawk said in More than we can BEARS...:

@Texas-Hawk-10 It's really not. It could be saying they're OK. They decent. Maybe I should have said "Great" instead of "Good". Would we be having this conversation now if I had done that? Is anyone willing to step out into the abyss and say he's a Great coach?

Then most people would say that coach was okay or decent if they meant that instead of not good. I don't ever recall using the phrase "not good" to describe okay, decent, average or anything along those lines. Every time I've used that phrase or heard other's use "not good", it was to say whatever was being talked about was bad without saying it was bad.

More than we can BEARS... β€’ Feb 21, 2020 10:45 PM

@nuleafjhawk Saying someone is not a good coach is pretty strongly implying that they are a bad coach.

More than we can BEARS... β€’ Feb 21, 2020 06:35 PM

Scott Drew is a good coach. He has a .603 career winning percentage at Baylor, including those first 3 years when he was dealing with the aftermath of the Dave Bliss scandal. In Drew's third season at Baylor, they were banned from playing a non-conference schedule because of that fallout. Year 4 is when Drew started to have any hope of success at Baylor because that's when harshest sanctions were over with and he could begin actually building a program.

Most programs would be thrilled with a coach that makes the NCAA tournament essentially 70% of the time.

Scott Drew wouldn't be near the top of my wishlist for Self replacement's, but there's also plenty of worse options out there. I would consider him to be in the 20-25 range for top coaches. He's definitely not an elite coach because the consistency isn't there, but he's by no means a bad coach.

@Kcmatt7

If Dotson ends the season as Big 12 POY, 1st team All American and final 4 MVP, delivers a title do you think he gets up there if he expectedly left after the season?

Final Four MOP was an original criteria and consensus 1st team All-American is part of the expanded criteria. Since Marcus just went up, I'm guessing conference POY is now part of the criteria as well now.

I'm torn on that one because Marcus would've been the only KU player to win Big 8/12 POY and not be in the rafters. KU has had a surprisingly low number of conference POY's from what I've found.

1956-57 was the first year the Big 8/12 POY was given and was not awarded between the 1959-60 to 1966-67 season's. Here is the list of KU players to win the award:

Dave Robisch x2 (1970, 1971)

Bud Stallworth (1972)

Danny Manning x3 (1986-1988)

Jacque Vaughn (1996)

Raef LaFrentz x2 (1997, 1998)

Drew Gooden (2002)

Nick Collision (2003)

Wayne Simien (2005)

Marcus Morris (2011)

Thomas Robinson (2012)

Frank Mason (2017)

Devonte Graham (2018)

That's only 12 different KU players to win conference POY so I would consider that a big achievement considering KU's history and some names that never won the award like Paul Pierce or Sherron Collins that a lot of people would probably assume won that award at some point. All those other names besides Marcus are either already in the rafters or will go up one day so I don't have a huge issue with it, but get the argument against him.

Unlike college football where the schedule is made 2-3 weeks out, the college basketball TV schedule is pretty much set before the season starts.

Better from behind? β€’ Feb 18, 2020 05:05 AM

@kjayhawks said in Better from behind?:

It will be interesting to see if Self starts Moss or Braun. I think Moss will continue to start going forward because he had more experience and seems better on the defensive end. But we need a Braun to aggressive like he was tonight from here on out.

I like the current rotation of starting Braun to open the game and starting Moss in the second half.

He really does give effort just seems sped up from lack of pt. Just needs time in the lab working on skill development and bbq

It's the same issue as McCormack last season.

Also in regards to your other post, I don't think he is a McD in most classes but obviously, he has some skills.

I'm thinking he was added late after a couple of injuries or pull outs. But yeah, he's probably one of the lowest rates players to play in that game.

That crash was scary as hell. Newman got hit on the driver's side while his car was upside down. 20 years ago and he would've been killed by that crash, it's crazy how far the safety of racecars have come. Probably the biggest legacy of Dale Earnhardt's death was the push for safety improvement in auto racing.
