ASTROS WIN >>>ASTROS WIN • Oct 22, 2017 01:21 PM

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 22, 2017 03:58 AM

@mayjay Stanley hasn't done anything this year or last year to show he's a better option than Bender. The defense won that Texas game last year, not Stanley. Stanley has had a couple of opportunities this year and he did nothing with those opportunities.

Change for the sake of change doesn't address the core issues, there has to be a reason to make a change and a belief that a change will do improve things. Stanley hasn't shown anything that should make anyone think he would improve matters right now.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 22, 2017 02:43 AM

@JayHawkFanToo He's throwing a hissy fit because he can't support Stanley playing at this point and because my Astros are looking good so far tonight.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 22, 2017 02:29 AM

@jayballer54 I've asked you multiple questions and yet you have managed to avoid answering all of them because you can't support your position. With the stats of each QB entering today posted, which one of them would you choose?

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 22, 2017 02:14 AM

Here's the stats for each QB, tell me which one is "better"?

QB 1: 55.2% completion, 6.3 yards per attempt, 111.9 QB Rating, one more INT than TD

QB 2: 53.8% completion, 5.2 yards per attempt, 90.1 QB Rating, one more INT than TD

One of these stat lines belongs to Bender, one belongs to Stanley. Which one do you play?

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 22, 2017 01:45 AM

@jayballer54 Tell me what Stanley has done this year in his time on the field to deserve taking the job from Bender? I'll wait.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 22, 2017 01:25 AM

@jayballer54 What has Stanley shown this year to take the job from Bender?

Another rant against Fox and MLB • Oct 21, 2017 08:58 PM

@wissox @kjayhawks Game 5 of the Yankees/Astros had a 1.2 and game 4 of the Dodgers/Cubs had a 2.0. Those are not big numbers.

Another rant against Fox and MLB • Oct 21, 2017 05:55 PM

@wissox You answered the question yourself. It's all about ratings. Even 4th tier bowl games between 6-6 MAC and Sun Belt teams draw bigger numbers than Duke/Carolina games.

Even coming from an Astros fan, KU/TCU is going to draw bigger numbers than game 7 would if it was on Fox.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 21, 2017 04:06 PM

@jayballer54 Out of Langford or Zion, I'll take a senior Lagerald Vick.

USA Today Coaches Poll • Oct 20, 2017 02:00 AM

@JayHawkFanToo Never said Martin would keep them good, but the Porters are the best players Martin has ever had and once you get past Kentucky and Florida, the SEC gets real average real fast.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 20, 2017 12:41 AM

@BeddieKU23 I will take senior Vick over any option in 2018 to play the wing.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 20, 2017 12:38 AM

KU has gotten closer and closer every year to beating TCU since TCU joined the league. We either take TCU to OT or ruin the B12's shot at making the CFP on Saturday night.

There's no logic to support this pick because there's no logic for KU always playing TCU close, but it happens every year.

USA Today Coaches Poll • Oct 19, 2017 10:57 PM

I could see Missouri legitimately being #3 in the SEC behind Kentucky and Florida this year.

UNC Placed On Heavy Probation From NCAA! • Oct 16, 2017 01:29 AM

@JayHawkFanToo I believe the DoE is responsible for accrediting universities if they receive federal money.

UNC Placed On Heavy Probation From NCAA! • Oct 15, 2017 11:54 PM

@Bwag I don't know if FBI would have jurisdiction or not. Department of Education should definitely be looking into UNC after what they admitted though.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 15, 2017 04:58 PM

@dylans Been my position all along. Even if Beaty never improves the W-L record, he still needs 5 years to bring the scholarship numbers in line for whoever is coach in 2020. He started in such a hole that it's going to take a full 5 year recruiting cycle just to get to a full deck. Give him that time, evaluate then, if he's shown enough progress, keep him and if not, then bring in someone else. That someone else will at least have a full roster of players to develop going forward.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 15, 2017 01:28 PM

@BShark Russell Robinson is still playing professional basketball. He wasn't the best scorer at KU, but he didn't need to be and he's been the best defensive PG of the Self era by far.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 15, 2017 01:24 PM

@KUSTEVE It's not new though to have highly rated guys coming in and playing PG early on. Russell Robinson, Mario Chalmers, and Sherron Collins were all 5 star players who got rotation or starter level minutes from day 1 under Self. The difference is each of those guys had a more experienced player that ran the show the majority of the time ahead of them while Dotson won't have that luxury.

Robinson backed up senior Aaron Miles ahead of him, Chalmers played next to sophomore Robinson, and Sherron backed up senior Robinson.
Dotson is expected to be the man from day 1 and will have another 1st year player at KU backing him up in Charlie Moore who looked less than impressive in Italy.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 15, 2017 02:45 AM

@KUSTEVE Where did I say anything about the stats?

The 05-06 and 08-09 teams each had PG's with experience in Self's system whereas Dotson and Moore will have no game experience next year. There's going to be a much steeper learning curve at the PG position than we've ever seen at KU.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 15, 2017 12:29 AM

@KUSTEVE I never said Tharpe was good, just that he was far better than EJ running the show.

Also 05-06 and 08-09 had better PG situations than KU will have next year (RusRob and Chalmers in 05-06 and JR. Sherron in 08-09) so even if Dotson is better than advertised, he's probably not going to be better than So. RusRob or JR. Sherron.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 10:28 PM

@kjayhawks Armstrong and maybe Lee are NFL talents on KU's roster and that's it. Adeniji is way too small to be an NFL lineman. Wise will get a training camp invite and that's probably it. I don't even see Dineen really getting a look because of his size.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 08:46 PM

@DanR Offense was much more responsible today than special teams. The offense didn't reach 100 yards for the game until their final drive in the 4th quarter.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 08:43 PM

@BShark Just ask yourself this question in regards to how much experience means to a Bill Self team. Self has had to replace his entire starting line up 3 times at Kansas, how well has KU done in each of those seasons with a brand new starting 5?

In 2005-06, KU lost 8 games and lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament to Bradley. In 2008-09, Kansas lost 8 games again and lost to Michigan St. in the Sweet 16. And then the 2013-14 team lost 10 games and lost to Stanford in the second round.

That's what I'm basing my predictions on. What KU has done when in similar situations in the past and they've never looked like title contenders, and never came close to a Final Four in any of the previous times they've replaced their starting 5.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 07:35 PM

@BShark Bender is an average at best QB and so is Stanley.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 07:32 PM

@BShark The Lawson's maturity is a big issue. Neither is Tarik Black in that regard. Without Vick, Dedric is one of the leaders of the team and that should scare the hell out of a lot of people with his maturity issues.

And that 13-14 team had plenty of players who had been in the program for a year and more players who had actually played for KU than next year's team potentially and still did nothing to help that team. Even bringing in a senior graduate transfer did little to help that team.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 06:33 PM

@BShark Senior EJ was a much worse PG than So. That's and it's not even close. The 2013 team wins a title with better PG play. The 2014 was never winning a title with their lack of experience.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 06:27 PM

@BShark Not even KU's worst PG situation under Self and the PG situation wasn't even the biggest reason why that team struggled. That team was all 1st and 2nd year players within the program.

The 2018-19 is starting to look a lot like that team in terms of experience. Unless Vick stays, KU won't have any seniors in 2018-19 and Lightfoot would be the only guy in the program more than 2 years.

Self and KU need Lagerald Vick to stay for his senior year to provide that senior leadership the team will need to make a run.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 06:20 PM

@JayHawkFanToo It was still KU's least successful team under Self by losing 10 games that season.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 06:17 PM

@cragarhawk SCLSU didn't experiment with the towel boy. Michigan did and ran into a laundry list of problems.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 05:28 PM

ISU only gained 31 yards in the first quarter, lol.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 05:02 PM

Stiop giving Hampton the ball, it's just a matter of time before he coughs it up again.

Iowa State Cyclones • Oct 14, 2017 05:00 PM

Why is Quan Hampton allowed to play in these conditions? He can't even hang on to the ball in perfect weather, so why is he playing in rain?

WELCOME DEVON DOTSON!!! • Oct 14, 2017 03:17 AM

@BShark I don't see Grimes as a OAD. I see him in the 2-3 year range like a lot of players in his range.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 03:14 AM

I think KU still gets Grimes and Langford.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 03:04 AM

I suspect the actual gameplay will feel more like the NBA all-star game than a competitive game because that's how you minimize the injury risks and still entertain the crowd.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 12:00 AM

@REHawk This game doesn't happen without Self's consent. He may not be the final word, but if he didn't want this to happen, this game doesn't happen.

ASTROS WIN >>>ASTROS WIN • Oct 13, 2017 01:38 AM

My Astros have homefield this series, that's all I care about. Add in Keuchel and Verlander pitching games 1 and 2 at home and Astros should end up with a 2-0 lead heading to New York.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 12, 2017 11:49 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Just read details, schools have to waivers because of how to close to the season it would be. Trying for Oct. 22 and only eligible players would be able to play.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 12, 2017 09:43 PM

@BShark I don't believe this is an NCAA sanctioned game whereas the two exhibitions against Kansas schools each year are NCAA sanctioned and ineligible players cannot play in those games.

How long of a leash does Beaty get? • Oct 12, 2017 01:46 AM

@kjayhawks How is what you're claiming completely different? In those meetings, players didn't have Mangino's back. They were giving Perkins all the ammo he needed to fire Mangino. Even without those meetings, there was still a mutiny brewing. All Perkins did was start it a few weeks sooner that without his meddling.

How long of a leash does Beaty get? • Oct 12, 2017 01:15 AM

@kjayhawks Mangino had a losing record against FBS competition, indisputable fact. Mangino was 3-15 against top 25 teams at KU, indisputable fact.

KU was still losing all those games in 2009 investigation or not. That team quit on Mangino and that is from a player in that team. It also didn't go that Mangino didn't have a back up plan for Reesing and kept trotting him out there when Reesing should've missed a few games to heal his groin. KU was also going to crater hard in 2010 regardless of who the coach was because KU didn't have a B12 caliber QB behind Reesing.

How long of a leash does Beaty get? • Oct 11, 2017 04:03 PM

@justanotherfan This is why Beaty has to have his 5 seasons. Even if the W-L doesn't improve, keep him around to get the scholarship numbers back in line. Firing him now does nothing but reset the clock on the scholarship numbers, destroys any chamce of keeping the two top Louisiana prospects, and put the next coach behind the 8-ball because he's focused on finding enough players to field a team and keep healthy instead of developing those players.

Take the short term losses to increase the odds of long term gains in the future.

How long of a leash does Beaty get? • Oct 11, 2017 04:00 PM

Mangino finished with a winning record in 2 of his 8 years. The man still had a losing record against FBS level competition and never had a signature win in Big 12 play. His 2008 Missouri win was his best win in conference play. He was 3-15 against ranked teams. Mangino had 1 season where he caught all the breaks. There's a reason why other schools weren't banging down the door for Mangino like every other time KU has had a winning coach in its history.

That Orange Bowl season was a blessing and a curse. It was great to experience that season, but it also set an unrealistic standard of success. At the end of the day, Mangino was a slightly above average coach who had 1 fluke season.

How long of a leash does Beaty get? • Oct 10, 2017 04:03 PM

@JayHawkFanToo As long as they don't keep rotating QB's, this team is good enough offensively to outscore someone on a good day.

Texas Tech Red Raiders • Oct 10, 2017 02:58 AM

@mayjay If you want details on KU and Missouri in early 90's, it's not hard to find them. The best I can tell you to look at would be an article from Sports Illustrated last fall about the oral history of the B12. The B10 was pretty down at that point and hadn't won a national title in football since 1970 so staying with the B8 and going to the B12 where Nebraska and Colorado were two of the dominant programs in the country at that time and winning national titles at that time was the better athletics option. People were legitimately shocked at Penn St. joining the B10 then because they were title contenders at that point, but it only took a recruiting cycle for them to fade out of the title picture as well.

That article features quotes from many prominent figures directly involved in the formation of the B12. The most interesting thing in that article is that Stanford might have been the biggest reason why the B12 ever formed in the first place.

Texas Tech Red Raiders • Oct 10, 2017 01:28 AM

@mayjay I never said KU recieved an invitation to join the B10. I said in the 2010 realignment that KU was discussed as the 15th or 16th team in the B10 if they expanded that much. We know the B10 didn't expand that much as they chose to go to 12 with Nebraska, and then 14 with Rutgers and Maryland shortly after that.

Also notice how Keegan is the one guy claiming no interest between either party. Every other source is saying there was at least discussions between both parties. Keegan was never the LJW writer to pay attention in regards to realignment, Tait was ways the one with the insider info and he had stories saying KU had discussions with both the B10 and P12 about Kansas joining during that time period.

It was also always reported that KU's first option was to stay in the B12 if possible and that the Kansas Board of Regents may not have let KU and KSU split because more members had KSU ties than KU ties at the time.

I don't think it's very difficult to see where college football is headed at this point. Neither ESPN nor Fox had any interest in seeing the B12 expand which most likely means the B12 is going to be picked apart when the current TV expires in a few years. Getting rid of the B12 just makes too much sense for the networks in regards to simplifying the College Football Playoff. Get to 4 major conferences between 16 and 20 teams each, split each conference into two divisions of between 8-10 teams, expand the playoffs to 8 teams, have the quarterfinals be the conference championship games.

Fox has deals with both the B10 and P12 already so they would get the rights to those two conference title games and semifinal game between the B10 and P12 champs. ESPN gets the SEC and ACC title games and semifinal game between those champs and then ESPN and Fox alternate the national title game each year. The expansion to 8 teams and that set up doesn't happen until the current CFP format expires.

Texas Tech Red Raiders • Oct 09, 2017 11:48 PM

@mayjay General consensus among the people who covered college athletics at the time that had access to inside information courtesy of people who worked in athletic departments. AD's are not going to conduct business like that in public (unless it was Missouri's AD), but they also can't work in isolation either and there were absolutely people within KU's athletic department back in 2010-2011 that knew what KU's options were had the B12 imploded and that's how tgese stories get out.

People can mock a site like TMZ all day long, but they are very good at what they do and very accurate for amount of info they publish because of their insiders. The LJW staff at the time (minus Keegan) have historically had a great relationship with KU and the athletic department so they are more likely to be updated and kept in the loop via people with direct knowledge of the situation than reporters who don't have a great relationship with who they cover.

How long of a leash does Beaty get? • Oct 09, 2017 10:39 PM

@kjayhawks I think a start would to dump Bowen because of his inept play calling and defensive schemes.

I'd like to see KU srick with Bender at QB because he does allow KU to stretch the field which we haven't had since Reesing. He's not an elite QB, but neither is Stanley nor is Starks, but Bender does currently give KU the best chance to be competitive. He's going to have bad games though and Saturday was a bad game for him, that's what happens when you have non elite QB's.

Texas Tech Red Raiders • Oct 09, 2017 10:27 PM

@ICTJayhawk General consensus over the years is that KU and Missouri had open invitations in the early 90's round of expansion to the Big 10.

During the last round of expansion, KU was generally considered to be team number 15 or 16 had the B10 expanded that much.
