This crowd is going to need to be bleeped after this call gets overturned.
Bech is the best receiver on the field today.
Nice work by the DLine causing that pick
Looking like a defense optional game so far.
Kentucky taking down #7 Ole Miss in Oxford.
And TCU just carved up the defense on the second possession for an easy TD working the middle of the field. 92 yards in 5 plays.
Grimes being upstairs looks like it's making a pretty big difference as the play calling was strong with multiple play action plays on that drive.
Call stands, TD Kansas
Now the TD is under review to see if Grimm stepped out before the catch.
Daniels with a beautiful pass to Grimm who did a Cris Carter sideline catch for a TD.
All turnovers are automatically reviewed anyway.
@wissox said in KU taking on TCU a must win - -must , must win:
Radio guys surprised TCU didn't challenge fumble.
It was clearly out before the back hit the ground.
Good start on defense, Cobee Bryant with a forced fumble and KU recovery.
I will say that the roster combo's are going to be interesting because this going to be a flawed team. Nobody on the roster is close to having a complete skill set for their position. Nobody on this team is top level on both ends of the floor.
If Self says screw defense and wants to outscore people, then roll with Harris, Mayo, Griffen, Storr, and Dickinson. Harris is in that group because you still need someone to initiate the offense.
If Self says screw the offense and goes with a full bad ball line up, then Harris, Moore, Passmore/McDowell, Adams, Bidunga.
@kuballin10 A 31% career 3 point shooter is someone I'm not worried about beating me from 3 because odds are they won't. In regards to PER, Moore's career PER is 14.2 which is also below average. There's a reason why Moore has never been a full time starter for mediocre MSU teams.
We all know Harris has his limitations as a player, but none of the other PG's are a clear upgrade over him. Mayo is probably the best shooter on the team, but he's a black hole on defense and an average passer and ball handler. He has a role as a spark plug off the bench because of his shooting, but I don't see much else in his game that translates super well to the P4 level.
Shakeel Moore is a better athlete than Harris and on par with him defensively, but he's not a shooter and he's not a great passer and is an overall below average offensive player.
David Coit was also brought in, but if he's playing relevant minutes this season, something has gone terribly wrong.
The PG with the highest upside in the roster is out for the season amd that's Elmarko. Hopefully it's not a Wayne Selden situation where he loses some of his athleticism because of this injury.
There's a solid chance Kotelnicki is back on the market if PSU doesn't make the playoffs because that fan base is getting restless at Franklin not winning any big games for PSU.
@kuballin10 said in Basketball Season:
@Texas-Hawk-10 You aren’t wrong about his tapes but he’s still more athletic than Juan. Juan couldn’t beat those guys off the dribble either…you forget how much more athletic and quicker Samford looked - go rewatch it. They sped Juan up easily
Best lineup is
Moore (when healthy)
Mayo
Griffen
Storr
Hunter
Best shooters, scorers and Storr can’t do worse rebounding wise than your favorite rebounder kj
That line up couldn't stop my middle school team from scoring and isn't the offensive threat you think it's going to be. Zeke Mayo isn't going to be anywhere near the impact player you think he's going to be. He's not someone that can play 30 minutes against B12 level competition without being completely exposed on both ends. He wasn't even SDSU's lead guard, but you have this weird fascination with shoe horning him into that role here. AJ Storr is Temu James Harden without the 3 point shooting.
I also hate to break this to you, but Harris is the superior shooter at 44% to 42% and a much better 3 point shooter at 39% compared to 31%. Moore does have a better PER than Harris, but his PER is also below average.
@kuballin10 said in Basketball Season:
@Texas-Hawk-10 Not even close. I think you are thinking of last years team lead by d2 and Hunter gave up 89 to Samford and 89 to Gonzaga.
Mayo better athlete than juan
Griffen better defensively than Murphy
Storr miles better than Mccullar athletically and just needs to give a darn on the defensive end
Kj is kj
Hunt isn’t even that bad it’s how coach schemes him to play ball screens that’s bass ackwards
This is how I know you have no idea what you're talking about right now. Zeke Mayo is nowhere near as athletic as Harris. Mayo isn't quick enough to beat Summit League players off the dribble. 90% of his highlights are him doing stepback 3's because he can't beat his defenders off the dribble. Mayo was also a black hole on defense in the Summit League, but is suddenly going to be able to defend Big 12 guards like LJ Cryer, Caleb Love, and Jeremy Roach?
Furphy sucked on defense, Griffen is marginally better, but still below average.
AJ Storr might be a better athlete than McCullar is, but it sounds like he's still not playing any defense and is still a ball hog who might be trying to top his 32% usage rate from last season.
Hunter is slow and unathletic which is why he's entering year 5 of college instead of year 2 in the NBA. I agree that Dickinson was misused on defense last season and should've been used the same way McCormack was down the stretch in 2022. Putting 3 bad defenders in front of him doesn't hide those weaknesses, it magnifies them and means KU has 4 terrible defenders on the court at the same time.
You're also right that this group wouldn't give up 89 to Samford and Gonzaga, they would've given up at least 110 in those games.
The offense also isn't going to be as good as people think because this team still won't be able to space the floor well enough due to a lack of 3 point shooting to allow Storr to do what he is best at which is drive and draw fouls.

I’ve listened to the podcast and that part 10 times and it sounds like AJ and he moved his mouth to pronounce AJ….but then 10 seconds later he says KJ and you can semi tell the difference but idk.
I think the 4 starters clearly include KJ and that’s who he probably meant to say
Griffey lol…autocorrect got me
Best lineup would be: Mayo, Griffen, AJ, KJ and Hunt…..
That line up is giving up 90 points per game.
@Kcmatt7 said in Basketball Season:
Zeke starting according to Bill. Storr or Griffen off the bench.
Probably Griffen, but a line up with Mayo, Storr, and Dickinson is giving up a lot of points. This is shaping up to be Bill Self’s worst defensive team at Kansas.
@drgnslayr Go back and look at the play by play of KU's drive after WVU made it 28-25. Devin Neal ran for a 3 yard gain on first and second down and lost a yard on 3rd down. KU ran it 3 times on that series and went 3 and out. West Virginia used timeouts to stop the clock after the 2nd and 3rd down plays, it wasn't incomplete passes.
@nuleafjhawk Illinois and UNLV are good teams. Illinois is a team that can win 10 games this season with their schedule and UNLV will be in the mix for the G5 playoff spot. The WVU game is the only one that's a bad loss to me at this point.
@drgnslayr said in Must win tomorrow!:
I rarely disagree with you... but on this one, I blame the offense. KU has become a quality program mostly through our offense. We have several big-time tools on offense.
Yes, the defense lost away a two-score lead late in the 4th quarter. They were tired and without an offense keeping possession of the ball, they weren't allowed to rest, and possession drains the clock making it impossible for them to score twice.
We didn't need to score again while up two scores but we did need to secure ball possession. And our best offense so far this year is our ground game. As I mentioned above... two downs to make 3 yards (especially with Neal and Daniels) is an obvious situation to run, making a first down while also running clock.
My 11-yr old was even screaming at the TV!
We had an 11 point lead with 5 minutes left in the game. KU was also +13 minutes in time of possession with a 2 hour break at the beginning of the 4th quarter. I don't buy for one second that the defense was too tired.

Love that KSU is our next game. I could start to check out on football… but the drama here is too great.
Grab the popcorn! Lets go boys!
It's not, we don't play KSU until the end of October. KU has 3 more games between now and the KSU game.
@nuleafjhawk said in Way Too Early KU - K-STATE Predictions:
@Texas-Hawk-10 its not supposed to make sense. It's the frustration of a pissed off fan.
K-State will win by a minimum of 40.
They're down 3 scores to BYU right now, bullshit they can beat KU by 40.
@nuleafjhawk said in Way Too Early KU - K-STATE Predictions:
Them - 89
Us - 3
The 89 is predicated on them putting in their cheerleaders at halftime.
This prediction makes no sense. KSU is currently losing at halftime to BYU and KU hasn't been getting destroyed in these games. They've come down to the wire with Illinois and UNLV looking like pretty good teams so far.
I'm not saying KU will beat KSU this season, but I also doubt KSU beats the crap out of KU either.
@kjayhawks Both suck for different reasons. This season sucks because they were expectations going into a season for the first time in about 15 years and each of these losses have come down to the final few plays so it's more frustrating in that sense because of the emotions involved.
The Gill to Miles years sucked because we just weren't competitive at all and apathy was the norm. The emotional detachment might make this seem worse, but I'll always prefer having a chance to win over games essentially being over after the first quarter.
KU won 21 games total in those 11 seasons. Leipold has won 20 games so far at Kansas in 3+ seasons and is already tied for 9th on KU's all time wins list and has a shot to get to 7th this season.
@AsadZ said in Must win tomorrow!:
I concur although D has been put in very tough situations by offense.
When O got the ball around 3 min to go they could have iced the game with just one first down but they couldn’t do it giving ball back and momentum to WV
The defense was given an 11 point lead with 3:40 left in the game. That's not a tough situation, but obviously the defense wasn't up to the job today and deserve more of the blame than the offense for losing this one today.
This is nowhere near David Beaty era Kansas because KU was rarely competitive. A game like today against a conference opponent was a once a season deal.
This feels much more like the 2006 season KU went 6-6 and was about 5 plays away from being 10-2 that season. KU this season is about 3-4 plays away from being 4-0 right now. This is nothing like 10 years ago when we were begging for KU to just be competitive.
Because KU has had a 4th quarter lead in every game this season, Daniels and Grimes don't deserve all of the blame, especially the last 2 games where KU had a lead with under 3 minutes left. That means that despite the flaws on offense this season, they've been good enough to give KU leads with under 3:00 left the last 2 games. The defense has to be better at getting key stops amd closing out games as well.
It sucks to not be able to close out games, but again, this is nowhere near Beaty era levels of bad and incompetent.
3 blown 4th quarter leads. This isn't just an offensive issue. The defense has been bad in clutch time too not being able to get a stop. The secondary was particularly bad today getting torched on multiple occasions.

Why does JD have 3 TDs and 6 ints this year? What the hell has changed?
I think he's putting too much pressure on himself trying to make up for last season and playing to the preseason hype.
@kjayhawks said in UNLV - Any Bets?:
I’m sorry but something has to change here, either QB or coach. You can call me a negative Nancy if you want but this is terrible. JD has to put the ball in the air and give us a chance
Tonight was much more on JD than Grimes.
JD6's mind is broken at this point.
Unfortunately a good call
@kjayhawks said in UNLV - Any Bets?:
@Texas-Hawk-10 yes but if the ball is uncatchable it can only be holding.
Not turning around and looking for the ball is a guaranteed flag everytime.
@kjayhawks said in UNLV - Any Bets?:
How is that PI ball is 10 yards short
Corner never turned and straight up tackled the receiver. It was a good call and a bad play by Dye.
Are you freaking kidding me!?!?!?
Don't think it's getting overturned
Absolute bullshit right there
@wissox said in UNLV - Any Bets?:
What happened on that punt? I heard "personal foul for running into the kicker" in the background.
Punter got ran into, but because he was outside the box with the rugby style punt, it was a no call.
I'm not mad about that 3rd and 21 call with how Daniels has been throwing the ball.
Does Grimes not have any play action or draws in his playbook? Those would would open up the short and intermediate routes that UNLV is sitting on now.
I love you Andre Ware, but that play isn't unnecessary in that situation.
@drgnslayr said in Shakeel Moore with a broken foot.:
Any Juan haters left in this group? lol
Look how valuable he has been for us. A solid rock.
The leader of that group is still around.
This feels too much like last week now.
Jalon has never had the arm strength for those throws.
That screen was the pick six right before halftime last week. Difference in speed between P4 and G5 teams.
UNLV might want to cover Devin Neal
@dylans Mississippi St. transfer who was basically the only good defender Self brought in this offseason. Should be the main back up to Harris and play alongside Harris when KU needs to beef up their defense. Losing this time is going to be a blow for him and KU.
