@Texas-Hawk-10 hard time imagining UVA leaving the ACC

Also can you guys imagine Duke and UNC getting split up. That i could get behind.

Big 12 Expansion • Jun 19, 2022 01:52 PM

Article referenced Gonzaga as a successful midmajor bball powerhouse, also Villanova, whose football is div ii

13 million drop in athletic revenue from tv contract would hurt. Hard to build up football while youre cutting budget.

Big 12 Expansion • Jun 19, 2022 01:47 PM

Old the athletic article…

Stewart Mandel wrote last week that two sports TV consultants estimated to The Athletic that about 50 percent of the value of the Big 12’s television contract derived solely from Texas and Oklahoma. The Big 12’s current deal paid each school around $25.2 million this last fiscal year, according to tax returns. Add in other league revenue — mainly from the bowls — and the schools received an average of $38.5 million. Last year, the Big Ten paid out about $42.4 million to each of its members. That number was down from about $53.8 million the previous year because of canceled football games. So, in theory, the Big Ten would have to be convinced that any school that comes into the league would be able to increase its TV revenue enough that no one’s bottom line suffers.

Big 12 Expansion • Jun 19, 2022 12:55 PM

Quick and unverified googling:

The Wildcats brought in $67.6 million in total revenues and spent $78.4 million. Both numbers were down significantly compared to normal years. In 2020, K-State reported $86.4 million in revenue and $86.1 million in expenses.

Kansas' NCAA financial statement for fiscal year 2021 showed an end total of minus-$1,815,108, when comparing $92,325,635 in operating revenue to $94,140,743 in operating expenses. Back in fiscal year 2020 the figure was plus-$14,564, when comparing $102,707,575 in revenue to $102,693,011 in expenses. — feb 10 ‘22

How is Gonzaga pulling top 5 recruiting classes in a midmajor? Are shoecos still king? Can we survive in B12 just by remaining the adidas flagship?

Wiggs • Jun 17, 2022 07:53 PM

@drgnslayr absolutely. GS and San Antonio top the short list of where i want our guys to go.

2022 Transfer Portal Thread • Jun 17, 2022 03:14 PM

@mayjay you mean 2 rings

USMNT • Jun 16, 2022 07:04 PM

That said Im enjoying The Athletics coverage of USMNT. Its behind a paywall but in depth.

USMNT • Jun 16, 2022 09:44 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk good article. I liked their takes across the board. They told it like it is And didn’t hesitate to criticize american coverage contributing to lack of interest in USMNT:

Sure, Friday’s NBA finals Game 4 held more interest for the average American sports fan than a Nations League stroll in a Texan sweatbox against the world’s 170th-ranked team. But did the Grenada game need to kick off on a Friday night at 10pm ET and be broadcast in English on the cavernous ESPN+ subscription streaming service, where viewers may have been distracted by alternative delights such as the La Crosse Loggers versus the Bismarck Larks in the Northwoods baseball league?

Tuesday’s clash in San Salvador, on FS1, Univision and TUDN, also kicked off at 10pm ET as the USMNT continued its war on people who have to get up early the next morning. The game even clashed with a rescheduled home MLS match for one of the continent’s most popular clubs, as Seattle hosted Vancouver. This on the day that MLS announced a lucrative and comprehensive deal with Apple TV; compare and contrast.

USMNT • Jun 15, 2022 06:54 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk home field advantage was maximized. No VAR, mudbowls, Concacaf is RAW

USMNT • Jun 15, 2022 11:26 AM

I gave up at the half. Those extreme field conditions completely negated any opportunity for switching the field and we couldnt seem to find the touch to put the ball in dangerous spots along the left and right channels.

I need to watch the second half today (I knew what happened, you didn't spoil it :)

Wiggs • Jun 15, 2022 12:13 AM

@Kcmatt7 27 but yeah, Curry Thompson and Green are 34, 32, and 32 respectively. Wiggins is setting himself up to be the bridge to championship aspirations for GS

USMNT • Jun 12, 2022 11:06 PM

Totally agree.

Big 12 Expansion • Jun 12, 2022 12:37 AM

I dont want B12 blown up. I think it can survive and i love our identity as is.

Andrew Freakin Wiggins • Jun 11, 2022 02:18 PM

16 rebounds 17 pts yesterday in a finals win. I wasnt a Mike Brown fan as a head coach but Im wondering if he is having a large impact on helping Wiggins realize his all around game.

Good job Andrew!

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 03:12 AM

De La Torre was man of the match. So crisp

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 03:12 AM

Malik Tillman showed us some things! Excited to see him get run

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 03:12 AM

Nice second half. Stopped trying to forcefeed Ferreira and started playing better soccer in the final 3rd

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 01:31 AM

Happy to see arreola acosta and de la torre starting. Morris, meh. I think antonee robinson is overrated. Zimmerman is serviceable. Has mckinney been hitting the roids? Looks thick.

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 01:26 AM

I want to see as much de la Torre as possible. The kid I think has greatness in him. If we aren't building him into a rotation piece for this WC I think it will be a mistake in hindsight.

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 01:25 AM

Yeah the midfield is not nearly as settled as I expected at this point. Adams is not impressing me at all right now, and moving Aaronsen to the midfield again seems like a disruption to a rotation that should have been settling. I was hoping Acosta would be in that rotation.

I'm not opposed to Aaronsen taking a central role. He is doing so for club, it just seems to be the 11th hour.

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 01:23 AM

Sean Johnson was a shocker, but I read up on him and he's had a tremendous season in MLS. I thought Matt Turner would beat out Steffen, and I'm a little concerned that GK is still in flux. Bringing a 3rd guy in seems like a pretty drastic thing right on the cusp of WC.

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 01:21 AM

That being said, I think our pod is a tremendous draw. I believe we can shock UK as they wilt under their own pressure, and Wales and Iran should be beatable.

USMNT • Jun 11, 2022 01:19 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk I'm willing to give Haji Wright a chance, but he hasn't inspired much confidence so far. It just looks like we're going into WC without a good 9. Disappointing. I'm not opposed to putting Aaronsen there, or Pulisic. Someone with a scoring knack. This won't happen of course.

Team Cohesion • Jun 08, 2022 08:09 PM

@Jethro hot off the press eh https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/national/story/2022-06-07/duke-hires-former-nike-nba-staffer-to-aid-players-with-nil?_amp=true ↗

Team Cohesion • Jun 08, 2022 08:00 PM

@drgnslayr awesome topic. I remember specifically us talking about the no ego crew we had after Vick left, and how important team cohesion was. I :hundred_points: :fa-times: :hundred_points: agree that this was a huge factor this year and the only real defense there is of Ochai winning the FF MOP. The kid has a heart of gold, even as the featured player, he knew how to get the best of his teammates and was fluid for what the situation demanded.

First ive watched Udeh. Getting Big Dave vibes.

Gradey Dick Call Your Shot • Jun 07, 2022 06:27 PM

Tall people anyway.

Gradey Dick Call Your Shot • Jun 07, 2022 06:27 PM

I assume he will get hurt for a stretch that will knock his mpg down, as all Bill Self big men do.

Gradey Dick Call Your Shot • Jun 07, 2022 11:32 AM

7 and 3, 37% 3pt, 18 mpg

Christian Braun… future… Spur? • Jun 06, 2022 09:38 PM

In his recent post-lottery mock draft, The Athletic’s draft expert Sam Vecenie had Braun projected to the San Antonio Spurs at No. 38

No matter what team you pull for • Jun 06, 2022 10:32 AM

I havent watched MLB this year. Premiere League soccer is a much better product.

Famous Buckets Blunders • Jun 03, 2022 08:39 PM

@drgnslayr well, to be honest, I did not miss on Jojo in college, but feel like I haven't appreciated him as an NBA player. but maybe that's because I don't appreciate the NBA.

Famous Buckets Blunders • Jun 03, 2022 08:04 PM

This thread is making me realize my biggest mistakes were all about big men. I think most peoples probably are.

Famous Buckets Blunders • Jun 03, 2022 07:30 PM

@justanotherfan said in Famous Buckets Blunders:

Turning back to Bragg, I think the thing for him was that he played basketball because he was good at it, but not because he wanted to be a basketball player. That disconnect limited his ability to improve and basically doomed him at KU. To improve at the P5 level and beyond, you have to work on your game even when you don't want to. It's more of a job than something you do for enjoyment at that point. That is a tough transition.

Bam! Nailed it.

Famous Buckets Blunders • Jun 03, 2022 03:07 PM

I was wrong about Doke. With the way he redefined his body he vastly exceeded my expectations as an upperclassman rim protector, and perimeter defender, and was so dominant that the free throws were not a total liability.

I was wrong about the Morrii. With their pudgy freshman bodies and t-rex arms, i did not expect them to be key NBA veterans some day.

Famous Buckets Blunders • Jun 03, 2022 12:35 AM

I thought Self was going to run Dave into the ground and there'd be no gas left by the end of the tournament. I never dreamed Self would use Remy as effectively as he did. Before this post season, nothing surprised me.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • Jun 01, 2022 04:19 PM

@BShark you put it succinctly, exactly my thoughts. Win on the big stage. You may say thats not fair. It might also be not fair to undervalue skills less tangible than scoring.

But win on the big stage and youre a winner, however your methods.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • Jun 01, 2022 01:50 AM

Underclassman Sherron frustrated the hell out of me. If he hadn't gotten that steal and 3 to put us in striking distance in the championship and then the fall down pass to Mario, I would have remembered a lot of the boneheaded things he did that season, including some head-scratching plays in the championship on a team full of pretty cool customers. My point being, Dajuan is not the first KU underclassman to make a few boneheaded plays in a championship he also did some very good things in.

In particular, underclassman Sherron's drives to nowhere, getting caught in the air with no option, and either turning it over or getting packed to Kingdom Come drove me absolutely nuts. So let's allow that there may be a bit of lip-service hypberbole in Self's assessment of Sherron as "one of the toughest" or whatever he said. Yes, Sherron was good, had a borderline great career by KU standards (high standards). He checks all the boxes for someone Self would praise.
* Contributed his sophomore year to a championship run.
* Waited his turn to start
* Was from the Chicago area (want to recruit that!)
* Was a 5 star McD (want to recruit that!)
* Played 4 years for Self, probably should have left after his 3rd
* First team All American
* Wasn't drafted because of size

And importantly, his senior year, with 7 guys who made an NBA roster on his team, a team you would expect senior Sherron to lead, he lost to Northern Iowa.

So don't laugh when we suggest that lil Sophomore NCAA CHAMPION Dajuan Harris might end up having a better college career than Sherron.

He just might.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • May 30, 2022 09:07 PM

@RockkChalkk had to check the ranking in his class. Dajuan was 39th on Rivals! Sherron was 21st. While I agree they are very different in players, I am on board with those two rankings. I think Dajuan is a better defender and leader, while Sherron is a better scorer. I think some of those Sherron led teams after the 2008 championship could have benefited from Dajuans court vision.

Wow...Who Da Thunk It? • May 30, 2022 11:29 AM

I think in the absence of a cohesive public narrative the public is going crazy.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • May 29, 2022 10:36 PM

@kuballin10 the last time iowa state played kansas, dajuan had 14 pts and 8 assists in 38 minutes. hunter had 8 pts and 2 assists in 32 minutes.

You can speculate that Hunter is better but i have seen dajuan stepping up big when we need him.Hunter is just that, speculation, at least in the sense that we dont know what he will do for Bill.

In defense of your position, Dajuans box score against UNC was not pretty, even if his defense in the second half was.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • May 28, 2022 07:29 PM

I dont think of Tharpe or Frankamp as floor generals at all. I thought of them as score first PGs who were mediocre at best at running the offense and not good on D either. I think of Russ Rob as a better comp for Juan.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • May 28, 2022 07:02 PM

@kuballin10 Juan is lightyears better than Naadir or Frankamp.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • May 28, 2022 11:18 AM

Juan is a champion, the best floor there is. Now lets see him grow to his ceiling.

Doke!! • May 28, 2022 01:06 AM
