@wissox I'm allowed to be pissed that Doke doesn't guard 3s.
@BShark He looks gased. At least take a TO.
Just get Doke out. He can't guard 3's worth a damn.
Christian Braun, stabilizer?
Jackson is talking about getting wasted on recruiting trips with Ohio State when he was 17? 18?
Jesus Christ. This is the same bullshit we lost with against them in the tournament. Doke slow to rotate, baseline 3.
no point in playing 2 bigs if neither one wants to guard a 3.
Bout to get ugly.
The double team by Doke screwed up, left a wide open 3.
They got Doke all f'd up on d.
Doke's gotta close on that JRE corner 3.
Oh no :(
2 bigs is scaring me. Long rebounds on their 3's and only a +2 rebounding margin, while shooting 2-8 from 3 vs 5-21 for them. Feels like a loss if this doesn't change.
What's up Steve Lavin?
Do what we do... Adriaaaaaan
Archie Diaccogillespie.
Big Dave!
@HighEliteMajor which two bigs in a zone though? Do you think Dave can do it?
@HighEliteMajor I believe in impeachment because I believe withholding foreign aid to solicit a political investigation of an adversary is impeachable. I also think his conduct toward Putin, China, Syria and Saudi Arabia represents a serious security threat to the country. For this reason I'm in favor of censure as well. Either he is guilty of an impeachable offense or he's too stupid/ morally bankrupt and self-serving to recognize it as such. I don't agree with his domestic policies but I could weather his administration there. I just don't think we can allow him to run a shadow government via Rudy Giuliani. The House did the right thing.
@dylans hope so!
@dylans could the two big lineup adequately defending Villanova be inverse "fools gold"?
I'm glad this last game is meaningful. I think we show up big time.
@KirkIsMyHinrich awesome!

Damn it feels good to feel good.

@approxinfinity I think you actually made a compelling case proving @kjayhawks point. Regardless of who recruited them, Danny's guys all went pro. Post Danny guys (see what I did there?) Other than Dok all went nowhere...and even Dok wont make the League.
Doke WILL make league. And Embiid is the best big we've had under Self, if NBA success is the metric (I don't think it should be). I guess if you count JJ as a big, thats another high draft league player post Danny. Tarik made league.
We only had one high recruit off court derailment under Danny (Giles) and, post Danny we had 3 (Silvio, Preston, Cliff)
I think Diallo is the most glaring case of needing Danny. I'm willing to go all in on that: Danny would have made Diallo better than he was.
@Crimsonorblue22 Frank is so muscular now. Remember when he could just be a lightning fast college kid?
I'm really, really impressed with Doke this year. He's blowing my mind a little bit. And it makes you realize how important conditioning is. It takes a village to make a big man. I'd take this year's Doke over Sasha, Darnell, Cole, Wright, possibly any of "Danny's" bigs other than Darrell. Without Darrell, we don't win against Memphis. The Morrii are hard to compare, because they're a package deal. I wouldn't trade the package for Doke, b/c together they were very very good.
@Crimsonorblue22 Good point. Collins is probably Danny's biggest success story on paper, as he was a 3 star recruit. But he didnt get the Kansas bump like Embiid did.
@kjayhawks it really is hard to tell. @Crimsonorblue22 has a point.
DURING DANNY
Mannings worked with bigs:
Wayne Simien, Julian Wright, Darrell Arthur, Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kaun, Cole Aldrich, twins Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris, Thomas Robinson and Jeff Withey. All NBA players.
Roy recruited Wayne. Julian wasn't recruited by anyone listed on rivals. Darrell was recruited by Townsend and Jank (whose leaving opened up spot for Danny). Dooley left in 2013. He recruited Kaun and Cole. Darnell wasnt recruited by anyone listed by rivals. Morrii weren't recruited by anyone (rivals). Tom Rob was recruited by Self. Don't know who got Withey to come over. We had others. Giles, etc.
AFTER DANNY
Danny left in 2012.
Cliff Alexander was the #4 recruit in the country (off court problems derailed?). Cheick Diallo was the #5 recruit in the country. Maybe those two should have been better? Silvio wasn't ranked on Rivals. Maybe he should be better? Jury is still out, he's barely been eligible. Preston was the 11th ranked recruit, but he never played. Embiid was the #25 recruit in country (rising a lot after signing with us) and exceeded all expectations. Carlton Bragg had off court problems. Hunter didnt get run. Landen, Ellis, Tarik, Doke achieved their potential. Other than Cheick and Silvio, who do we think could have been better if Danny was still here?
[IN]CONCLUSION:
This seems like a lot of talented players that were either pulled over by an assistant that has since left, or weren't recruited by anyone.
Meanwhile the guys we recruited after Danny left seemed like a few headcases, a few overachievers, and not a whole lot of [eligible] NBA talent. Preston's an idiot. Silvio got in trouble.
It seems like the issue is we didn't recruit nearly as well this decade as we did last decade, and recruits no longer cAmE tO kAnSaS bY tHeMsElVeS ( @BShark did i do that right? ), and when they were here a lot were headcases (maybe Danny could have helped straighten them out, but hard to say). So it's very hard to tell Danny's actual impact.
Doke now 29th on nbadraft.net.

Is Teahan getting in with over 5 minutes to go a new record?
Could Self be thinking about Teahan in meaningful minutes that need a 3?
100% ok with padding the Dotson AA Stats until 5 min mark.
If Doke could swat a couple 3s into the bleachers that would be a nice statement against Villanova.
One good kicking of Jay Wrights ass would be great.
Reports of the death of the 2 big lineup were greatly exaggerated....
There you go. Dotson says he models game after D Rose.
So.. my brother thinks we will stomp Villanova. Are you guys feeling it? I know little about Villanova this year.
My son battled a kid 4 inches taller and outweighing him by probably 20 lbs today. Frustrated the kid to tears. Gritty!
@DanR :) even Microsoft never dared a red screen of death. ESPN has some cojones.
Wow Dave.
Of all the colors, red. Don't they know red induces rage?
So that's near Winnipeg?
I would have said Doke doesn't have the get better gene before this year. Now I think he's capable of anything.
I dream of Doke developing a mid-range jumpshot although no one is asking him to do it. Hakims wingspan was 7'6. Dokes is 7'7.
For anyone who has kids (and this is a reminder to myself as well), just try to imagine the kid you're talking about is your own kid, going from a team where he doesn't quite fit to one where he does. My sons have struggled on some teams with certain coaches and thrived on others, and there was often no real fault anywhere. What's the point in finding blame? Looking forward is much more productive, unless you want to identify what type of player to avoid recruiting in the future?
