Auburn had 3 guys with two fouls 10 min into game.
Nice d there by Auburn on last possession. Two clean blocks to get to overtime
@jayhawkcsg lol ok, I didn't say the flashes were plentiful or long. I mean like a couple plays and sequences. I think that's true.
These refs are awful. Missed basket interference. Kid a good foot out of bounds on a save. Kick ball not called leading to fast break 3.
Texas Tech is stone cold.

@BeddieKU23 That's a heartbreaker ... (Tom, John, what's the difference?)
Lol. Got me with that one.
Best case, he goes some place he can be the man and finds his swag. There were flashes when he was comfortable where he looked like a complete guard. Good for everyone. No drama. Appreciate that. Wish him the best.
@joeloveshawks Duke is garbage, a cancer, a winner by technicalities, friendly whistles, and doing whatever they can get away with. They try to act like their athletes are scholars, and that Coach K is a kindly old paternal figure (he's a raging, whiny, entitled sh---head). In a world filled with BS, the last, last, LAST thing I want to do when I try to escape in my sports is watch the embodiment of that BS on my screen polluting a game I love, and getting rewarded for it. F---k Duke.
You're not alone.
I'm going to boycott Duke wins from now on. I will only watch Duke on replay when I know they lost.
nm
Wellp. Apparently Ahmed Hill fouled Zion's fist will his face.
Let's go Hokies! They're been the better team in all phases through 20
@wissox a sold 5 genuine Lols for that one :)
@Fightsongwriter I wasn't watching the program when Vaughn was a Jayhawk so I can't weigh in there, but Frank's loss was without a doubt my biggest heartbreak since becoming a fan. I watched highlights of the 83-80 win over Arizona led by Vaughn in '96. [test](
The kid was fun to watch! Very shifty and smart with the ball. I can see why people loved his game.Plus I'm glad they took out Altman and the D*cks. I won't forget them talking smack after beating Frank's senior year team: no class.
@kjayhawks I enjoyed watching Virginia tonight. They played D hard for entirety of every possession down the stretch and worked to find good looks on O. Things that we blew many possessions on this year, they didn't do.
@dylans step #1 robot refs. Last thing we need is more Cameron whistle. Also, I like the passion it invokes but is capacity an issue? If you weren't trying to nitpick logístics I'll settle down :grinning:
@dylans Im leery of the word "just". Many factors. Last year's team would be very competitive this year. I do wonder if a team like Auburn would still beat us. Weren't they similar to Villanova?
@HighEliteMajor not a fan of Pearl myself ... https://deadspin.com/bruce-pearl-s-first-con-and-the-world-that-created-a-m-5898192 ↗
I don't know. UVA won the ACC four of the last 6 years. Yes, last year they lost first round. Why? They didn't shoot the 3 enough, and they didn't have redundancy in the athleticism department and Hunter went down . Both things have been corrected. Keenly watching their success this post season. If their system can translate to post season success, I will be looking if they can maintain a lack of critical flaws with the talent they recruit.
@dylans ok, yeah if they were healthy and eligible, Doke, De Sousa and McCormack are a punishing line up. However, I don't think of De Sousa and McCormack as bruisers. They both have face up game, and they can move well enough to guard the perimeter. I don't see them as having a critical flaw like Doke. They are pogo stick and bruiser in one.
@dylans except that i would hardly call any of our bigs bruiser bigs once Doke went down.
I get why Bill assembled the roster he did, I think. I can see how the pieces fit. But when every year one piece or two we need doesn't develop or gets injured or ineligible isn't it a fair question why we have unique pieces and don't build redundancy into the system?

@approxinfinity “Entirely possible that .. KU is undefeated” vs “assuming we’d go undefeated” are very much different.
Fair.
We won every game with Doke playing full speed. Add SDS and no one .. not Duke, not UNC, no one .. could match up with us.
3 > 2. Someone could most certainly match up with us. They just would have to shoot well.
The assumption is that we would have a functional Vick as well.
Having a functional Vick is imo like saying "having a Doke that can shoot FTs and guard the 3". You're saying "but without his tragic flaw".
I think there is a significant fiction that the game has now completely changed. You can win with big players. Imagine Dotson if he actually had a functioning front line? There is more than one way to win.
I can appreciate this. But we still can't shoot well.
If we had all of those guys we still have a tragically flawed headcase as one of our two reliable 3 point threats in Vick, the other being Dotson. I'm sorry, but assuming we'd go undefeated is fan fiction.
Still thin at guard, with Agbaji a redshirt and Charlie a black hole of awful. Playing a high low with Mitch (I would hope but can't be certain of) as the 4th big? And we are somehow going to guard the perimeter better?
@BeddieKU23 of the 3 you mentioned, Silvio was the player with the most upside. But had Vick and Doke played, would we be talking about how Doke can't shoot FTs and can't guard mobile bigs? Would we be talking about how Vick is a headcase? I've got to go with yes and yes. They're exploitable weaknesses. It's still unlikely we win a championship with those guys.
@kjayhawks look guys...this "we can't recruit like Duke" logic is irrelevant. We need to recruit well enough to win. UCF recruited well enough to win, they just got screwed. UVA has recruited well enough to win.
Why do we need flawed players? The only reasons I can come up with are:
- self likes personalities, flaws be damned
- self thinks the sum of his flawed players is greater than the sum of players that aren't elite at one thing but aren't bad at anything. That's where I disagree
- self is making sacrifices in his recruiting in order to win now without ever experiencing significant let down.

Maybe we just need to surround him with 4 capable shooters to mask it.
MardiGrarch Madness
@BShark What does it look like if we don't recruit Doke (broken FT form) or Garrett (broken shooting form)? Can we get someone like Dave instead of Doke? How far down the recruiting ranks do we go if we are looking at the time we recruited Doke? What does it look like if we don't recruit Dedric/KJ/Charlie? Who do we get instead?
@BShark maybe Auburn aside. Those Nova teams and Oregon were good and deep.
Hahah.. speaking of which, also, no guards who can't dribble.
DanR said:
No pot smokers either
Our championship team had pot smokers. Mario, BRush.... How about no excessive potsmokers... or no players who like pot better than basketball?
BShark said:
The problem with players without huge flaws is they are quickly playing pro ball and the year they do play is typically at Duke.
Come on man. Every team that has beaten us in the tournament this decade has had a stable of well-rounded players, and none of those teams were Duke.
Going forward, I'd love it if we could avoid recruiting guys with tragic flaws. In an effort to avoid being exposed for lacking certain capacities when one or two of our guys are out for the season, it would be nice to have a redundancy of well rounded players.
If we could ensure the following of our recruits, it would help:
- No bad shooting form.
- No mysterious inability to make a single shot.
- No bigs that can barely jump
- Nobody who shoots every time they touch the ball
- Nobody who jabs himself in the head with his fingers after making shots instead of getting back on D.
- No easily disgruntled players.
- No guards that can't shoot 3s.
- No bigs that don't attempt to play D, rebound, and box out.
EDIT: Appending with good suggestions.
- No headcases.
- No presumed one-and-dones protecting the goods.
- No players that like pot better than basketball.
- No guards that can't dribble.
Generally speaking, I hope the Transfer U era is over, and we focus on freshmen.
Dedric is the cheat code on a game genii where you're like "wtf did it do? nothign seems different?"
He shouldn't be on the floor at all in a tournament game.
We had another half before this one but slept through it @DanR
Wheres the foul?
@Woodrow I enjoyed watching Devon, Ochai, Dave and Grimes develop. In retrospect with 20/20 hindsight, I would have been fine with those guys starting and playing heavy minutes since day 1.
How long do you guys think we'll have to wait to hear that Charlie is gone?
I like the two man game btwn Grimes and Dave though. Competent.
WTF was that Dedric?
garbage call.
Please let the Transfer U era be over. I want freshmen.
Mitch got screwed this game. I have no f'ng clue why KJ played over Mitch and Dave. It's not as if KJ is shooting 3s this game.
We actually have some continuity and haven't seen Charlie or KJ in a while.
Yes Grimes!
Dedric is a good player on a midmajor team, like Memphis.
Dedric was really a 38% 3pt shooter this year? hm.
It should be Mitch and Dave right now.
