Mitch wants Moore? I want Moore! J/K!

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:14 AM

Grimes hit that one when the pass was a skip pass where he didnt bring it across his body.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:13 AM

Catch shoot miss. Grimes special. Get the kid ball dominant.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:12 AM

I don't think Perry ever threw a shot over his shoulder while running out of bounds. He'd just get his shot packed shooting squared up and below the rim.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:10 AM

He can go sit back down. We're at the point in the season where anyone out there should recognize there's no time for bullshit.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:09 AM

That was an awful shot.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:09 AM

Dedric needs to stay calm when struggling. His team is competing.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 03:06 AM

Grimes is more than a catch and shoot guy today.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:46 AM

Hell yes Q!

0-3 last 3 Charlie shots, with change of possession.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:38 AM

My stat to rock is 3+ assists from Charlie. Would like to see it.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:36 AM

Dave with the hammer block. Rim protector!

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:35 AM

GREAT passing! Good job Charlie.

Fran, thats the nicest thing you've ever said about KU. Now wheres the mute button? Let me relish it.

hahaha, nice speed O!

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:26 AM

I don't think Grimes feels comfortable catching and bringing the ball up to the pocket. Needs to practice that.

lol.

This point guard carries the ball every time he touches it and is flat awful. Big step down from Fisher.

DD corner three.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:14 AM

I wonder if there is a list of teh guys who would be eligible to be grad transfers already.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:12 AM

Any transfers we are targeting? Too soon? Would love to get some guys excited to play with a core of DD, Agbaji, Mitch and Dave.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:11 AM

Thats so nice DD. SEEING IT!

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:10 AM

Good D Grimes.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:09 AM

I love watching Dave try his ass off even if it's a hot mess, its contageous.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:08 AM

Double dribble. nobody touched that.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:07 AM

That court is awful. It's on Vanderbilt's level of audacious home court advantageosity.

Walking wounded invades TCU β€’ Feb 12, 2019 02:06 AM

I was sitting here trying to think of a thread name if I had to start it :) thanks for taking one for the team. "Lagerald and Kumar Go To White Court" wasn't cutting it

Agbaji/Next Year's Team β€’ Feb 12, 2019 01:33 AM

@BeddieKU23 imo KJ has trended in the right direction and could be a 7th or 8th rotation guy. It depends on what returns. If Dave and Mitch are the only bigs that return and we miss on Hurt, are we going to be able to recruit over KJ? Seems like his leaving would be highly contingent upon Doke and Silvio leaving.

Agbaji/Next Year's Team β€’ Feb 12, 2019 01:21 AM

Why would Grimes leave for a second round contract? That's assuming he can play his way into a contract in the league. Why not do that at Kansas where a first round contract is still in play?

OH No Huggy β€’ Feb 12, 2019 12:39 AM

I guess this is least fair to the two teams they've already played twice, Texas Tech and Texas, kinda like the guy in my fantasy league that quit setting his line halfway through the season. F that guy. Anyway, both teams handles business and beat West Virginia, home and away, but Texas Tech won one of those games by only 3.

OH No Huggy β€’ Feb 11, 2019 11:33 PM

Oh damn.

Quentin Grimes as pass-first PG β€’ Feb 10, 2019 04:48 PM

@tundrahok thanks! Yeah that looks great!

Other Games Tonight β€’ Feb 10, 2019 04:47 PM

Watched the UVA Duke game. For a 31% 3pt shooting team Duke torched the net from outside. Not much UVA coudl do.

Quentin Grimes as pass-first PG β€’ Feb 10, 2019 04:43 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 maybe Ochai will take the role. I don't think Vick shot from there nearly as much as Svi or B Rush, for ex. Dotson can't shoot from there as lead guard as much as we need imo

Big 12 games β€’ Feb 10, 2019 11:13 AM

VICK GONE for Good this time??? β€’ Feb 09, 2019 01:24 AM

@KUSTEVE we talk about Q as a Malik comp, maybe Vick is the Malik comp, he just got more run than Malik bc of the lack of shooters.

Quentin Grimes as pass-first PG β€’ Feb 08, 2019 05:33 PM

Garrett could continue in his current role as backup PG. Play the hot hand (hot assist man, whatever) there between him and Grimes. Just get Dotson off ball. Is Grimes really that slow? If he was given
the keys wouldn't that give him a little giddyup?

I like the idea that he has the green light to shoot if they sag off of him. I just don't think coaches will dare him to shoot like they do Marcus. Should help Dedric.

Quentin Grimes as pass-first PG β€’ Feb 08, 2019 11:26 AM

Did you know we only assist on 49.3% of our baskets (ty KenPom)? What if we reinvented this team around a pass-first PG named Quentin Grimes? You know, the kid that was the MVP PG for the FIBA U18 team this year? The one who is shooting 40% (35% from 3), not the other kid who plays point and shoots 48% (40% from 3).

Question: can Agbaji and Moore hit a corner 3? Also, would Dedric be more inclined to kick out of a doubleteam if we had Agbaji / Moore in the corner? In the recent past it was Svi and Malik. Why don't we have a corner 3 guy? At least it feels like we don't.

So I know we have decided the 4-1 isnt working and we want more Dave. But ask yourself this... What is the ceiling for this teams passing game and how close are we to the floor?

@BShark If Vick is going to continue the "bad" ways...no. But the whole scenario of his actions and now suspension..yes I does. Should have responded to your comment about replacing Vick with Chuck. Although....maybe if Charlie gets a shot to play more off the ball he can show that shooting prowess that we've only seen brief glimpses of.

good thought!

To further this line of thinking, maybe you can pull Dotson off of ball too. Grimes at point, Dotson and Chuck off ball.

Yeah that does sound like LaLa laying some smoke down to protect Lagerald. In this case, it seems like a wise move.

I didn't call it. I wouldn't call it, because I didn't think Bill was stonecold enough to kick his to the curb. I definitely believed it was the best thing for the team's success. Someone else did call it though. @kjayhawks ?

I don't know if he's gone gone. But I'm guessing Bill told him where he might expect to be in the rotation after that loss, and Vick didn't want pollen allergies enflamed by an overdose of pine. Maybe a leave does him some good. I might hold onto a small hope that he can find balance again after a leave, as opposed to trying to play through being a knucklehead.

If it is truly a family issue, I A. feel bad for being so mad at a 20-something kid who is dealing with crap and B. have maybe even more than a small hope that he can come back focused.

I still can't believe I (and some others) thought that not having Doke in the middle might make for a more productive offense. Idiots we were. This team needed a guy like Doke in the worst way.

Given that relatively obvious observation, it would seem that something inside would help Dedric. Dedric is very limited. Defensively he's a disaster inside. Not his strong suit. But the dude can score if he has a bit of space. Job one. Get him space.

Yep! Self will never banish Vick, and unless Tuesday's Charles is the new Chuck and Mitch continues to scrap like his life depends on it, there will be several guys sabotaging the game in our rotation.

I didn't mention Q, KJ, or Garrett. They never officially made it to my mental Island of Misfit Toys, but obviously, there are many question marks and things need to go right there as well. These guys are at least a net zero on a bad night, not a disaster. Of the three, Garrett has the most potential to be a game changer in limited matchups.

Of the three buckets:

A. potential disaster -- Vick (almost made likely disaster 4th bucket), Mitch, Charlie

B. likely net zero -- Q, KJ, Garrett (Garrett is a match up thing that we should be able to predict, he probably deserves his own bucket)

C. good to great -- Dedric, Dotson, Agbaji

Which bucket do you put Big Dave? I don't think we've seen a complete game of his belong in bucket C, but we need to see him PLAY A COMPLETE GAME before making that assessment. If he did fall in bucket A earlier in the season, I'm just not seeing it now. Kid gives his all and good things happen when a giant waves his wings.

So after Tuesday's game, I would put Dave ahead of Vick for sure, Chuck and Mitch if they bomb their next assigment, KJ if we don't need 3s, and Garrett if we do. I'd put him ahead of Q if the team isn't doing well, otherwise I wouldn't screw the chemistry.

So that leaves only Dotson, Agbaji, and Dedric ahead of Dave :100: of the time.

Do you remember the games where we force fed Doke to the point of bewilderment? (I think there were several, which led to the unfounded conclusion that our offense would be set free sans Doke). Ball goes in, no light escapes... Well now it seems to me that maybe the reason our offense was so simply a binary absolute of [FEED / DO NOT FEED] Doke was because the Chuckers, Wimps, and Poisonous Snakes were certain to sabotage with some bonehead play if the offense was given freewill. Easier to issue the blanket directive "You will look for Doke, and if you don't feed him when he's open, you're coming out."

I think it was you before that said this team needs "Micromanagement Bill" in the worst way. Well, at least this last game gives me some hope that Charles and Mitchell can be productive. That was the most focused and aggressive I've seen them all season. I liked it. But if they aren't, Dave. Vick? No Thanks. Dave. Dave will never throw a no look pass into the bleachers. Never. The road paved with broken players leads to Dave.

And I hope Self sees it.

So Grimes' stat line is atrocious, 1 reb 6 pts 4 fouls 5 TOs, it's true (I'm going by others posts on the TOs, espn doesn't have it).

But when we were hanging tough, Grimes was out there on the floor. Vicks line was a little better,.7 pts 3 Reb, 2 assists, 0 PF, ? TOs. However, Vick killed us. Just killed us. Strictly in terms of on floor chemistry, is Grimes decent? Does the team play well with him out there?

Rocktagon the Chalktagon β€’ Feb 06, 2019 05:51 AM

I have no doubt that we would be better off without Vick, had we recruited a top 40 shooter. We would have lost a couple more preconference games but we would have won today. And we wouldn't have an idiot hothead hamming it up after made baskets instead of getting back to play d, and making no look passes to the 5th row with a road win within reach.

Mindnumbingly stupid. Done with Vick.

Gotta guard the corners better (Vick). Obviously Lawson can’t dribble through a quick team like K-State. Honestly, I think we win this game with Garrett. That way we get less turnovers, a more rested Dotson, and more assists. Guard play in defense was just not disciplined enough.

Good point re Garrett.
