@DoubleDD He said he would discuss election meddling prior to the meeting, then omitted it from the agenda, and jumped to Putin's defense, interjecting when reporters asked Putin about it.

You mean he actually does [only the things he wants to do that] he says he's going to do?

The thing is, he could have come out of that meeting and said "we discussed the meddling, we know it happened, and we've agreed that it must stop" and this would have put Trump on the right side of the law. What he did was inexcusable, and speaks to the long shadow his ego casts over this summit. Either he feels that by acknowledging meddling he would be invalidating his presidency, or he is compromised, or he thinks that Vladimir Putin is his friend. Or maybe all three.

Robert Mueller is a Bush nominee. To suggest that the FBI has a liberal lean is just nonsensical. For Trump to side with Putin over American Intelligence is stupid, narcissistic and dangerous.

@JayHawkFanToo thanks man.

Has anyone mentioned that Self getting experience playing more guys with a deeper roster for u18 might translate to playing 10 guys for Kansas this year? Anyone have a link to see total stats for the u18? Curious what the usage/minutes looked like.

Here's a litany of quotes from Republican lawmakers condemning Donald Trump's meeting with Putin in strong terms:

If you aren't getting these quotes from your regular news sources, I think you need to question whether your sources are truly conservative, or even news at all.

@mayjay clearly it was the democrats.

Collusion. • Jul 16, 2018 07:05 PM

This thread is specifically about collusion. All other threads are non specifically not about collusion.

@DoubleDD you're not understanding me. I am saying that collusion is not the point at all. We are not talking about collusion. You are artificially bringing collusion into the discussion. Let's not talk about collusion. We can talk about collusion in a different thread. I'll start it.

Let's talk about how a president negotiates with Russia.

Josh J • Jul 16, 2018 04:33 PM

@BeddieKU23 without having watched much of the summer league, I think the key for me to this evaluation is "hitchy jumper". He has no business bricking shots at that clip when he clearly hasn't improved his form. It wouldn't be selfish play if his shot was better. It is, after all, a 3-centric universe.

@DoubleDD You're promoting a false dichotomy.

Did the DNC screw up by having lax cyber security? Yes. Does this mean that it's acceptable to hack their servers? No. Is this the same issue as President Trump's handling of NATO? No. It would even be a false dichotomy if we were discussing collusion, in that DNC stupidity doesn't justify collusion. But we aren't discussing that.

@justanotherfan is 100% on the money here. This is what we are discussing. No amount of pointing at the DNC or Hillary changes the fact that this is not how you conduct negotiations with Russia.

@bskeet well put! I never would have thought of the Mule as a Trump comp but that is perfect. Thank you for bringing up the "we might have to go it alone" comment as well. This freewheeling approach to diplomacy is not acceptable when the stakes are as high as they are. We don't need uncertainty as to who is allied with whom.

@JayHawkFanToo you and the source you are borrowing from took the NYT title out of context. Read the subtitle in the original story. This is playing sound byte politics.

You're running a different story as if it justifies what Trump does. It doesn't. At all. Should we talk about Germany's oil deal? Sure. But that does not justify Trump's actions. Totally different story.

I think the point that the New York Times is attempting to make is that the 2% spending on Defense that Trump asked for was already asked for by Obama by 2024. More off-the-cuff bullshit-artistry from a man who when asked if he would defend the Baltic countries if they were attacked immediately responded that he would first check to see if they had "paid their dues" by which he meant spent 2% on Defense. The answer should have been unequivocally "yes". Not this nonsense.This is undermining NATO.

Here's a New York Times podcast where they elaborate on the points:
https://dts.podtrac.com/redirect.mp3/rss.art19.com/episodes/f4012a48-f902-4f31-9492-896ab07ed83d.mp3 ↗

@JayHawkFanToo if you're going to quote an opinion piece from a paper why not link to the opinion piece itself rather than another source?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/12/opinion/editorials/trump-nato-obama.html ↗

@JayHawkFanToo Do you think that we should let Russia take over the Baltics and Ukraine now? Is NATO not the organization best positioned to prevent that from happening? You can try to splice the rhetorical peapod with a nanoblade, but if the answers to these two questions are yes, then undermining NATO is a mistake.

This President is either colluding with Russia or too stupid to realize that he shouldn't be meeting with Russia alone. I really don't see another way to interpret the fact that Trump wants to meet with Putin alone. This is not how you conduct diplomacy with Russia, just two dictators shootin' the breeze.

These guys are seriously passionate about national adoption policies, amirite?

@DoubleDD This isn't about protecting Europe from Russia. It's about protecting the Baltics.

2019 Recruiting • Jul 15, 2018 01:39 AM

JRE said:

“A lot of people didn’t recruit me because they think I’m a lock for Kansas, but I always just tell them, you can’t get something if you don’t go after it,” said Robinson-Earl, who played for KU coach Bill Self on the USA Basketball Under-18 national team. “I’m open to everybody. I’m not locked in. I’m just open-minded about everything.”

http://kuhoops.com/ku-basketball-news/214739245/ ↗

What's your % chance for/against KU on JRE @FarmerJayhawk ?

This isn't the end of the investigation, if anything, the unflinching response by the White House seems to all but guarantee that they expect to be indicted later as well.

NATO was set up to defend the world against Russian aggression. Who needs that these days?

Why have alliances with European democracies, when you can align yourself with Asiatic dictators?

Why do we even need the FBI when we have a strong politically oriented DOJ?

This too shall pass.

I think you need to sleep this one off man. I consider jaybate a friend, and feel he is one of the most creative people I know. I do not want anyone other than jaybate to suppress jaybate's posts, unless he is being an a-hole, which he is not here.

@jaybate-1-0 I appreciate your variety of posts on this, restored them. @BShark I've revoked your moderator privileges, sorry dude.

;(

I don't have time to read all this. It's not a surprise that this thread ended where it apparently did. There's nothing wrong with the Yankees as a topic. That's what forums are for. Please refrain from calling other posters threads "stupid" @Kcmatt7 . Also @jayballer73 , please be considerate that when you start to "gloat and troll" which I think is an accurate representation of the original post, that the onus of keeping it civil is on you. It's fine bringing the bravissimo that way, but then you need to be the one keeping everything from boiling over.

@kjayhawks said:

Sometimes I think we all just like to argue.

Agreed.

Svi will become Lebron's Steve Kerr. • Jul 12, 2018 12:15 AM

@Kcmatt7 or, re: Diallo, Silvio's success proves that Self is capable of developing and using the right talented and raw player, and Silvio got it faster than Diallo did.

Congrats to Svi. Got a 3 year 4.6 mil contract today.

Just that much sweeter when you lose.

Never been a Machado fan. Kind of a d-bag, imo. The Yankees are too nice with guys like Stanton and Judge. Need more unlikeable people. Why stop with Machado? Maybe you can land Nelson Cruz, Rougned Odour, Hunter Strickland or some other easy to hate players while you're at it.

@KUSTEVE Josh still flips the ball up when he shoots. His form needs work.

@Crimsonorblue22 17 pts, 9 Reb, 4-8 from 3! Nice!

LeBron turning over a new leaf • Jul 07, 2018 01:01 AM

@Kcmatt7 @BShark @justanotherfan thinking again about a starting 5 of Kyrie, Klay Thompson, Lebron, Greek Freak and Embiid if the Cavs had drafted right....

When faced with that stark a picture of an alternate reality to what he ended up with in Cleveland, Lebron has to be serious about turning over a new leaf when he is talking about building a sustainable contender in LA with Magic. No way Ingram gets traded and Kawhi deal is dead until they pursue a free agent star next year right? LA cant be as good as what might have been in Cleveland, but I'm intrigued by the apparent commitment to developing young talent instead of shipping them out. This is what I hoped would happen in Philly if they hired on Lebron. As much as i have been a hater, I welcome Lebron ending his career the right way.

Devonte • Jul 07, 2018 12:32 AM

I hope the Tony P acquisition (2 year 10 mil) doesnt hamper Devonte. Best case, he's a positive mentor with championship pedigree. If Devonte is on the bench watching Walker play, having Tony P to talk to might not be a bad thing.

Charlotte has stated that Monk will play major minutes as a combo guard this year. I don't think you pair Kember (say this with Jim Calhoun accent) with Devonte or Tony P.

Maryland Subpoenaed by FBI • Jul 06, 2018 10:58 PM

Yeah contextually I think he was snarking about Self in that thread as well, but you're right that he didn't specifically call for Self's head there.

Yikes, Greene • Jul 06, 2018 08:32 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 when his feet were in bounds... i forgot about all those out of bounds calls...

@Crimsonorblue22 I keep thinking about the question of whether Young is going to do well in the NBA. I looked at the Steph Curry stats comp for his freshman year, which opened me up to the possibility of Traes success, but it's been nagging at me, because the kid feels like a choker. I'm wondering if you could see a statistically quantifiable significant difference between the two in pressure situations their fresh years. Also I wonder if playing against kids his own age and growing in college is not the same as growing in summer league / NBA practices / g league. Will this kid really have a better growth curve if he's getting trashed by NBA vets. Similarly will Markelle Fultz reach his potential? Is the IT factor quantifiable? Does Young have the IT factor? It feels like he does not.

Maryland Subpoenaed by FBI • Jul 06, 2018 07:41 PM

Wow. I guess the "unto death" in jayhawk_unto_death referred to the other party :joy:

Maryland Subpoenaed by FBI • Jul 06, 2018 07:16 PM

@mayjay :) well. I for one would welcome @KUinLA back, even if his perspective here might not have aged well with time.

I never wanted Self deposed but I would be lying if I'd say I didn't question whether his approach was ever going to evolve, and before willingly embracing the 4-1, I was frustrated. The ineligible big men were a mess. Frank, Devonte, and Svi were the anchors that reenforced everything good about Self. Going Transfer U seemingly has been a stroke of genius and the resurgence of recruiting has renewed my faith.

Turgeon did at one point seem to be on the short list. Obviously I'm glad that Bill has evolved and gave us the last two seasons. Wouldn't trade Self for anyone at this point, but I'd imagine if Frank hadn't been the best guard in basketball, and the team hadn't shot 40% from 3 with an unrestricted green light, I might be wondering how many years of forced high low with depleted big stables we would plow our way through, and how many years of poor ballhandling were ahead.

Maryland Subpoenaed by FBI • Jul 06, 2018 04:36 PM

@KUSTEVE was it this?

[post #39979]

Yikes, Greene • Jul 06, 2018 03:48 PM

Svi was a better defender, dribbler, passer and teammate (apparently).

Andrew White III found himself to be odd man out when he got hurt and Brannen leapfrogged him on the depth chart. White figured out how best to maximize his potential and working his butt off to improve the deficiencies in his game, eventually getting his shot in the NBA.

Greene pissed away his chances smoking pot while trolling people on Twitter.

Yikes, Greene • Jul 06, 2018 03:25 PM

Regrettable life decisions compounded.
