@JayHawkFanToo thus far, I believe in Belgium, Spain, and Mexico.

@JayHawkFanToo I'm not sure about Morel, but I've backed away from the superfan ledge this year...

James started that Colombia game on the sideline with an injury, then played second half but did not do much. I wonder if they will regret not starting him with 20/20 hindsight. Quintero played in his place and did score the penalty (under the wall) so there is that...

Senegal takes the lead against Poland 1-0! A win or tie against Poland would be huge for Colombia (same pod)

@kjayhawks that sounds unenforceable to me?

Some great upsets today. Mexico beating Germany was amazing. Mexico looked like the better team. Their offense was electric consistently getting downfield faster than the Germans. The Swiss tying Brazil was also a surprise. Neymar seemed to feel the pressure as much as Messi did yesterday.

Happy Dad's day • Jun 17, 2018 11:57 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 thanks! It was a great day.

I'm guessing a fat finger, quite possibly my own.

@jaybate-1-0 wasn't sure who locked it in the first place. Saw no record of a foul

Messi plays at 8am EST. Also looking forward to Germany Mexico. should be a good game. Looks like renaldos gunning for James Rodriguez's golden boot award!

Spain Portugal was muy bueno. Iran leads the pod and could spoil the hopes of one of those two teams now.

Rock Chalk buddy. I just finished coaching my boys in soccer and baseball. Both are moving on to travel soccer. This may be the end for me coaching in both sports. I am pretty emotional these days about sports and transitions for this reason as well. We are entering the Nike puppy mill, eyes wide open, and a lump in my throat.

Moore • Jun 15, 2018 02:10 AM

@jaybate-1.0 I was joking. But towards basketball I do find myself vacillating between the thought process you characterized as being the youthful perspective, i.e. "to hell with this game, I'll find another" and a deep pervasive sadness as the games I loved and thought would be eternal all have gotten facelifts, and estranged their lifelong friends.

I've been really enjoying watching the kids gets unleashed by US soccer in the last 2 friendlies. Playing France, a World Cup favorite, to a 1-1 tie was riveting! After years of being let down by Michael Bradley, Altidore and co, these kids played with fire ( always challenging on D, holding form, keeper making huge saves down the stretch) and athleticism, making people pay for mistakes. I'm hopeful for the future. If only we had cleaned house sooner, we'd be in this World Cup.

That said, here are the odds this year. Who else will be watching?

Moore • Jun 14, 2018 10:46 AM

@jaybate-1-0 maybe they could incentivize the 2 point shot by giving teams bonus points at the half if they've made x many of them :)

Moore • Jun 14, 2018 03:26 AM

@jaybate-1.0 I don't know if I'd go as far as a debt of gratitude. Some ways of skinning a cat are gross.

Watching James Harden and Steph Curry walk up the court and launch Ill advised threes for half of their series made me sick. Just mind numbing garbage.

If the game is infact dumbed down to a simple truth of 3 > 2, is it enjoyable at that point? Is it watchable?

EJ sighting! Good stuff.

Charlie could make himself super valuable this year if he's one of our 38% 3pt shooters.

Mo Bamba impresses • Jun 13, 2018 10:38 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 their 2 bigs were 16 of 26, hitting 7 threes, Spellman had 13 of their 33 rebounds and they tied us on rebounds. At one point we just gave up when we realized that Udoka was useless, leading to an additional run. A healthy Bamba (he was injured so maybe a moot point) would have made a huge difference.

Mo Bamba impresses • Jun 13, 2018 12:24 PM

Bamba hung out with JoJo for a week, said he can't wait to play him, and said he's a better Twitter troller than Embiid. Lol

The scoreboard shows 172-95. Is that a reference to the rivalry record? The record is 172-96. Was there a disputed victory by Missouri?

@HighEliteMajor I don't think Perry didn't play 3 because he was a bad fit there. He didn't play 3 because of our lack of depth in the interior. We needed his high iq and solid positional D at the 4.

Depth is there now.

Mo Bamba impresses • Jun 11, 2018 10:34 PM

Mo Bamba blocked 8 shots against us the one time he faced us. Granted two of them were on the way down but also 12.5 feet in the air. 15 rebounds and 22 pts on 9/16. That's pretty awesome.

Also wondering about Milwaukee. They could dump Parker, trade Middleton, Dellevadova and Henson for no return or maybe for a future pick, and afford LeBron. Benefits are: not too far from Cleveland, easier East, play with LeBron 2.0 (giannis) and bledsoe, while having a couple younger player prospects and the 17th pick for upside. Small market, though. But Milwaukee has already changed its marketing strategy to be global with the Greek Freak as a centerpiece.

@Statmachine think of the fouls we have to give!

Can a .369 3pt% team (PHI) + LeBron beat a .391 3pt% team (GSW)?

(HOU was .362, LAL was .345)

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Jun 10, 2018 02:04 AM

Sure. I think he makes enough money regardless of what he does. It seems most about legacy at this stage, and influence. Maybe LA ties him into things and puts him in position to write history regardless of future success as a player. I don't think he wants that. I think he wants to win. But we'll see.

Tell me something... How big is the difference between 33% and 40% 3 PT shooting if you have a bunch of plus rebounders?

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Jun 10, 2018 01:38 AM

This is an opportunity for LeBron to write his history. I agree that the options are Philly, Houston and GS from a basketball perspective. But Philly keeps him close to family and guarantees him a trip to the finals every year.

Is LeBron willing to treat Embiid and Simmons as equals, like he attempted to do with Wade and Bosh? I think if he does, history will be kind to him joining up with Philly.

LeBron:

"Understanding especially where my boys are at this point in their age. They were a lot younger the last time I made a decision like this four years ago. I've got a teenage boy, a preteen and a little girl that wasn't around as well. So sitting down and considering everything, my family is a huge part of whatever I'll decide to do in my career, and it will continue to be that. So I don't have an answer for you right now as far as that."

It seems he wants to leave but only his family keeps him in Cleveland.

Seems like these guys are just taking a break from posting while we have the opportunity. This upcoming season is going to be demanding!

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 06, 2018 01:58 PM

@HighEliteMajor you said he is unquestionably the 4th big at best. I'm questioning that. Not saying he IS higher in the pecking order at this point, just think he could be.

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 06, 2018 12:49 PM

@HighEliteMajor Imagine a Mitch capable of hitting 6 threes in a game, with 15 more pounds of muscle than last year, same FT %. Wouldn't you want that guy in the game and guarding Spellman and Paschall last year?

Keegan Gushing Over McCormack • Jun 06, 2018 12:45 PM

@wissox lolol

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 05, 2018 12:21 PM

@HighEliteMajor Since early last year, he's learned the offense, limited his foul trouble, and is more confident. Now seems that he's a lot stronger and should be working on his 3 point shooting. On last year's team, this bigger Mitch hopefully with a trey gun could have started at the 4.

I don't think his trajectory has changed, I guess I'm more just in awe of the process. Relentless work and good coaching. We see boys become men every year on this team, but it doesn't get old.

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 05, 2018 05:09 AM

@Lulufulu /topic/6590 how far Mitch has come from beginning of last year.

Go Capitals!

@Kcmatt7 I didn't realize Post Malone had a new album. I still find myself humming a couple tracks from Stoney. White Iverson was genius. I appreciated that he got into trouble with his fans when he said "if you're looking to think about life, don't listen to hip-hop". :)

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Jun 04, 2018 04:51 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I should have said "I don't know" to that question when you put me on the spot. I take back what I said, having had some time to mull over it....I think playing second fiddle to LeBron might break Young's soul. Running the show on a crappy team where they're expected to stink for a couple years is probably exactly what he needs.

@jaybate-1.0 Your wall of text was daunting but it turned out to be a wonderful wall of sound. Really enjoyed all your recollections. Thank you for sharing. This discussion comes at an opportune time, as my younger son had found my old mp3 players and is hungry for music, and I have forgotten the whole canon. Undoubtedly a symptom of hypermodernity; when I recall a band I want to hear, I put it in Google play, but there is not much though past the seeding of what I am listening, especially if I let the thing find similar music for me. That, I think, has its dangers. How can an artist tell their full story if their audience only ever hears one chapter? I try to stick to playing albums when I can but the UX encourages allowing their shuffle.

Anyway, I'll run through yours and @BSharks stuff as I work in my little cubicle with my noise cancelling headphones on, curious if early Grace Slick and some of the more fringe things you mentioned will be in mainstream channels. Will report back.

As for a quick hit of stuff in the last 30 years .... Try Cake (Fashion Nugget maybe first), Soul Coughing (Irresistible Bliss and Ruby Vroom) and Nada Surf (Let Go maybe first). These are still 20 years old and they did all make it to mainstream in some capacity but only Cake had enduring success.

@BShark could you please post the french rap or PM me? Id like to check it out.

You need to find it now.

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes, a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien

@JayHawkFanToo Tim Duncan is the exception not the rule for greats, isn't he? Most everyone is not as classy as Duncan.

The music industry has changed. While there is great music being produced now, you need to find it. The age of radio is gone. There will not be any consensus in who the great musicians are, only the commercial ones. The naive believe that those two distinctions are one and the same.

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Jun 03, 2018 02:44 AM

I really like this perspective from JR Smith:

"That's pretty much who I've been my whole life. I've always been the one guy who is the butt of the jokes or the one guy who does something crazy and everybody has got to look at or whatever the case may be. And then I just come back and be myself and play the next day," Smith said. "I don't really dwell on things too much. I've been like that my whole life, and that's what it looks like it's going to continue to be. So I just got to go out there and be me. I told somebody right after the game that I'm glad it happened to me, as opposed to anybody else on my team. To be in that situation is tough, and it's not a situation that everybody can handle. So I'm glad it happened to me."

@Statmachine he didn't say "free point shooter"

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? • Jun 02, 2018 04:56 PM

@mayjay the problem I have with officiating in any sport is the same problem I have with moving violations. I would prefer a consistent enforcement of the rules, not arbitrarily reviewing some plays or speed gunning some cars or taking pictures at some lights but not others. Im not advocating monitoring everywhere, just finding a way to be clearly and understandably consistent. A system of rules that is inconsistently enforced is confusing and it's not hard to find fault in however it plays out.

I feel like the so called "purist" take on keeping human officiating just creates drama and uncertainty. And augmenting the refs with replay in some cases just means that certain cases might now be correct if the ref interprets the replay correctly, while others still are wrong, and the game takes longer, with one team benefiting from these random timeouts. Net effect, the game can still be unfair from a rules enforcement perspective.
