@FarmerJayhawk ok i read that article too. I dont think that is extremely bad at all. What he is saying is that we dont have a blanket protection to misinform people about how and when to vote. I agree. I also dont think the first amendment should protect robospammers or scam artists. There is a spirit of the constitution: to protect people, the greatest good for the greatest number. Misinforming voters aint it.

I dont have a problem with that statement. He didnt prescribe a specific stance of how it should be criminalized, but i generally think that organized efforts to misinform voters on how to vote is an awful thing to do.

@rockchalkjayhawk we are all global citizens on teh interwebz!

Tim Walz • Aug 08, 2024 08:50 PM

Alright, I skimmed the talking points. Doesnt seem like too meaty a hit piece imo. Maybe that nice teacher gave you a good grade because he saw your potential @FarmerJayhawk.

Tim Walz • Aug 08, 2024 08:38 PM

Policy schmolicy @FarmerJayhawk, time to win hearts and minds! ;) Looks like some juicy reading. I’ll dig in.

Tim Walz • Aug 08, 2024 08:35 PM

Donald Trump seemed weird as hell to me 8 years ago and weird as hell to me now. Dems just went all in on “sinister dictator”, put a well meaning ghost in office, and let Trump dominate hearts and minds for 4 years after he left office. I find the weird as hell categorization refreshing. At least thats my early take.

Tim Walz • Aug 08, 2024 08:28 PM

@FarmerJayhawk lol. nice. Wait, is there an example of gross imcompetence?

Tim Walz • Aug 08, 2024 07:22 PM

I think all white men in this country have been slightly disenfranchised for a decade now.

The ones on the right feel like their shit’s being taken.

The ones on the left feel like their identity’s being taken.

(I speak for myself as one from the left. I'm like "I'm not THAT white guy")

But maybe I am Tim Walz.

Tim Walz • Aug 08, 2024 12:41 PM

So far, I’ve been impressed with what I have read about Walz. Seems to be in it for the right reasons, and generally a good dude.

I appreciate he owns no stock or real estate.

Im fully prepared to close this thread if it gets too wild
:)

Its easy to see Martha Stewart served 5 months in prison but its hard to determine how much jail time Snoop served total. Anecdotally, people say its less.

Need Games To Start • Aug 05, 2024 12:35 AM

At a glance, I approve of Snoop + Martha Stewart.

Generic soccer thread • Aug 04, 2024 12:50 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk we only have 2 centerbacks in the entire country, so you might be right.
Not sold on Dest at this point. I was high on him and then he seemed to mentally self destruct under the pressure.

@ImmunoHawk said in Need Games To Start:

Hi. New contributor, but long term lurker here. Testosterone is an iffy guide to sex determination. There is a wide range of normal testosterone levels in people, with many women in the upper level of normal having higher levels than men at the lower level of normal. And suppressing testosterone can have serious health consequences; what might be a population-wide normal level may not be adequate for an individual. I often told my students that strict on/off, yes/no, this or that situations are rare in biology. The species concept, for example, is a human construct for making classification easier; in nature there are often intermediate forms between two species and where we draw the line is arbitrary. Likewise for testosterone (and many other hormones that can affect athletic performance), there is less difference between males and females than many suspect. While we need rules for who plays on which sports teams, any rules we make will be arbitrary and there will always be special cases that just don't fit. And yes, I did study biology (immunology and microbiology) at KU!

Welcome aboard!

Best Westerns (not Hotels) • Aug 02, 2024 05:36 PM

Also each season of Fargo is a stand alone story.

Best Westerns (not Hotels) • Aug 02, 2024 05:36 PM

This isnt a western, but maybe a midwestern: i felt season 5 of Fargo was outstanding, and checks many of the same boxes as a western.

Best Westerns (not Hotels) • Aug 02, 2024 03:38 PM

@kjayhawks we are in the age of tv. Cinema hasnt been right since the 2000s.

Best Westerns (not Hotels) • Aug 02, 2024 02:02 AM

Recently watched the Quick and rhe Dead, and while it should absolutely not make your list, a young Leo Decaprio as “the kid” and Sharon Stone as a gunslinger were moderately fun to watch, and Gene Hackman was of course the best actor in the cast.

Best Westerns (not Hotels) • Aug 02, 2024 01:59 AM

Deadwood is the best Western show I have ever seen. Ian Mcshane’s Al Swearingen is the absolute star.

Disclaimer: this show is not for the faint of heart, very raw and explicit.

Jayhawks in the pros • Aug 01, 2024 10:55 PM

Just stumbled upon this. Did not know:

Where is Darrell Arthur now?
Denver Nuggets
Darrell is now a part of the Denver Nuggets Front Office. Arthur is the first cousin of fellow basketball player Quinton Ross.

@rockchalkjayhawk dont you know, we only have 4 centerbacks in the United States? Ridiculous.

We played ok.

If this was an interview for Thierry Henry as usmnt coach, he passed!

@Texas-Hawk-10 interesting… this guy answers my speculation. domestic PER is still higher. Its the top international talent, not the mean, that is great:

@Texas-Hawk-10 i’d be curious the average and median stats for foreign born vs domestic. I would be curious if the former would be higher.

Dream Team 2024 vs 1992 • Jul 23, 2024 01:11 PM

@dylans thats also what Charles Barkley said happened right? No way that guys ego had a revisionist memory? Im just playing devils advocate. In large part, I agree with you here.

But there are parallels. South Sudan def played like it was their game seven.

I also stumbled on someones post suggesting that in 88 a Michael led college team beat the USA team 8 out of 8 times, but i didnt verify. If so, i think that might show how much a prime (or young even) Michael is a difference maker.

@FarmerJayhawk my son tried to argue as you did. We spent some time looking at Michael and Lebron highlights. Keep in mind that guys were in their prime in 92. Lebron Curry and Durant are not in their prime.

The Indiana Pacers selected the 6-foot-8 forward with the 35th pick through a trade with the San Antonio Spurs.

So far, that looks like a great decision from the Pacers’ front office, as the former Jayhawk has averaged 16 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists through three summer league games.

Congrats to Germany… on doing a wonderful job hosting the Euros. Fields were pristine, refs were pretty good (except when they screwed Germany… at least they didnt screw a guest! ;) the matches had loads of drama and storylines, the theme song was well selected, and the closing ceremonies were beautiful.

Fun watch.

Go Spain!

2024 MLB Season • Jul 14, 2024 04:58 PM

@AsadZ sounds like prior to the Nats he was constantly injured. From The Athletic:

Harvey’s so accustomed to being associated with injuries that he routinely takes digs at himself and his unfortunately brittle history. There was Tommy John surgery in 2016; a fluke shoulder injury in 2018 when he tried to get out of the way of a foul ball in Bowie’s dugout; and oblique, lat and triceps issues in 2021.

He has never made excuses about the injuries, but the reality is he couldn’t stay healthy as an Oriole. Even when he felt good, there was always that feeling of “what’s next?”

Also seems to have good stuff and a good attitude.

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 04:31 PM

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 02:24 PM

Our Bipartisan system is a self sustaining duopoly. If you are Republican or Democrat you are as much alike as you are dissimilar.

We have ceded control to the lawmakers, to the stockbrokers, to the manufacturers and distributors, to the caretakers, to Big Pharma, to the advertisers.

We used to cede control to Nature or God or Big Unknown, when we had a more direct relationship with uncertainty.

Now we are all very small circuits or pawns, locked in on a very big board.

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 02:02 PM

Again, what does blame here do but divide us?

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 02:11 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 let me rephrase…. Lets assume we are Dr Strange and have identified the one reality where “we win”. How does it happen?

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 02:07 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 so, not to be offensive, but to be blunt, i hear you stating a lot of facts that are undoubtedly true, and positive steps that could be taken, and there is obviously value in having a grasp of reality, but when you go so far as saying “things will never change”… its like, what is the point in dilligently paying attention to details of the past only to assume that there is no positive path forward?

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 12:59 AM

I mean. I hear you. But just saying that i think advocating solution is much more important than blame.

Tornados • Jul 14, 2024 12:57 AM

Has blaming an entire generation been a successful solution to anything?

Tornados • Jul 13, 2024 11:49 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 while i dont disagree that one could spread the blame around, i am a fan of the inverse of the old saying:

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Harry S Truman

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the blame. At the least, blame
isnt a magic bullet.
