@HighEliteMajor that 3 by Winslow was the dagger to me also. It was also fairly well guarded I thought. Sometimes its just a great player making a clutch shot when it matters most. I still think we have more than one guy like that right here at home

@sfbahawk ive never suggested we just keep "cranking them" to break out of a slump or any other reason... I merely said shooting more within the flow of our offense. Scheming for good open looks may have broken us out of the slump sooner. To me that makes mathematical sense. But again neither myself nor @HighEliteMajor has ever suggested that just jacking 3s with no scheme or plan or within our existing offense was playing to this teams strength
@Hawk8086 As much as I hate to keep harping on it. I would never count out an Izzo coached team in march. I dont think you ever see the best they are capable of until the last game they play. Which. Admittedly isnt always enough to win. So perhaps youre right and Duke will end their run. But i would again ask. If you had a choice(and really we dont. Its just speculation) would you rather be the unknown overachiever(like 2012) or the world beating underperformer(2010)? I have to agree with @HighEliteMajor. Coach Self cant be feeling he got the best out of this group
@betterfireE i think most of us understand the OAD talent deal. The issue which is really no question is that Coach Self has less success with OADs and more success with teams in which hes had time to develop the talent into experienced upper classmen. Im all in on signing 9 double McDAs....but not if they are gonna sit behind Traylor, Lucas, and Greene for half the season after getting a quick hook for botching the help defense on a ball screen or not hedging. Or heaven forbid. Missing a 3 pointer
@jaybate-1.0 okay. Im extremely cranky right now. I admit that. Quit smoking after 17 years of a 2 pack a day habit on the 12th. Cold turkey. Hardest thing ive ever done and still struggling. So my apologies for sounding like a #%&!+ right now. But how on earth is it clear that we would be 3-8. To me its every bit as much "clear" speculation that we'd be 3-8 as it is that we'd be 10-1 using schemes within our existing offense to shoot 25 3s per game. And if you wanna cite the slump. Thats not overly valid. Because perhaps taking more shots may have ended the slump sooner. Again. Nothing is clear in my opinion. And its all speculation. But i do appreciate your insight and optimistic positivity for certain.
@HighEliteMajor ya. But the badball improved our team defense.... So much so that we actually allowed 49 pt halves in 2 of our last 3 games.
But hey. If thats not enough to make the preacher cuss. Dont look now but 23-11 Michigan State is in the final four. While we seem to continue to underachieve with superior talent. No worries though. Coach Self got to play it his way and we marched to myitkitna or whatever the hell.
@nuleafjhawk im sure it appeared that way to the overwhelming majority. However, I never really felt like UK was gonna lose that game. I think Wisconsin will look the same til,the last few seconds. And i think if its a UK/Duke final that will go the same way. The Only way i feel like anyone really has a shot to control the game enough to possibly win it. Is if Izzo is coaching that team.. Sorry. Just appears that way to me. The man seems to me to end up doing something special with his group consistently More often than not. JMO
Well... When are we all gonna stop pretending anyone has a shot at beating UK. Anyone other then Tom Izzo that is. No offense @wissoxfan83. Cause i Iike the badgers' game. But... Hats off to MSU and coach Izzo. Theres no question in my mind that no one else in the business consistently delivers as much with so little. I certainly wish whatever it is that makes them overachieve or surpass everyones expectations in march came in a bottle that we could give to our team sometimes.
@FarSideHawk great point on that. Thats my biggest concern right now. Why are we always having to discuss "motors" or "from an energy standpoint"? I dont understand that at all. I dont feel like at this level that effort or intensity should ever even have to be discussed. The trouble is with most of our losses this year and. In prior years. You can go straight there first. Honestly, the last game we lost where i felt the team just got beat on a night when their intensity was good was the @ OU game and then before that. The @ ISU game. And im saying 40 minutes intense. As it should be
I really think Coach Self has to let go of the OAD deal completely. Just get back to getting minimum 2 to 3 yr guys that he can develop. I know the culture now is OAD.
But, its just not working here for whatever reason. That much is clear. Its time to say gbye to that and start getting longterm players who fit the system. Im tired of the "were a young team" stuff all the time. Our 2 oldest teams in the Self era played for national titles. Now. As far as this years group. I had no expectations after the Temple loss. Just didnt pass the eye test for me really ever. I had hopes of course. I love my Jayhawks. Ill always have hopes. With that said. This loss.... Just doesnt bother me from a stand point of who we played. Wsu in the top 15 all year. We all know they were a solid 4 to 5 seed. No question. It bothers me that after the first 15 minutes we seemed to get out scrapped. Wsu just wanted it more. Thats tough to swallow. Round of 32 loss two years in a row. Also another one and 2 first round losses Self Era. The deal is if not for years when we had great opportunities to make noise and make a statement for this program. 2010, 2011, 2013 the early exits may not hurt as bad. I dont know what the answer or formula is for Coach Self and,this program but i hope it gets fixed. Soon. And please before anyone cites the ole "crap shoot" excuse. Please dont. The tourney is tough. And yes there is some luck involved. But this is Kansas basketball. Were absolutely correct in wanting more. Hell. Even expecting more. I hope there is never another season where i have zero expectations before conference play ever starts
The truth is. The season ended today. We went 1 and 2 in our last 3. And in the 2 losses we let up 49 pts in the second half of each game. Which to me seems unbelievably ridiculous for a team and coach that is supposed to be defensive minded. I have no excuses and refuse to make any. We just got our ass beat by a team that wanted it more and outplayed us
@Crimsonorblue22 I'd say they don't want for much then.... We really did nothing at all special today. They didn't have to do much to be better honestly

Well. The 13 to 2 run was certainly nice to be here for. Still love our game plan at the end of half's/games. Stand and hold the ball for as long as possible and make no attempt to try to run anything
Oh and watching the other team flat out play with more purpose/sense of urgency is really nice also ffs
