Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:48 AM

Unfortunately it is how people act in the worst/most stressful times that define their character. ie there are a lot of nice folks in the state pen that just get a little stabby from time to time. I try to remember that when I start to get exceeding cheesed about KU sports. I’d hate to be defined as a poor sport because I can’t act as gracious in defeat as victory. (I’m not though I try)

Doesn’t mean I like the play through. That I find off putting. That someone who was recruited to come represent the university I slaved to pinch pennies to attend putting forth this effort is bothersome to say the least.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:12 AM

@DCHawker I watched them beat preseason top 10 unc too. This team is listless now. It’s sad

Rebounds -

KU -3

BYU - 10

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:06 AM

Rebounding stats are the best indicator of effort - barring a weird shooting night where everything goes in.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:03 AM

So who’s banging who’s girlfriend? Wtf is this chemistry about? Bill just needs to dismiss some discontents if this is the way it’s going to be.

Fishing • Feb 19, 2025 01:57 AM

@approxinfinity nope. Dillons, Walmart, Sam’s club - about the only local chains with food. Eastern Kansas would have more options - HyVee, Aldis, Whole Foods, and others I’m forgetting.

@dylans ha. 8 in 30 minutes? Beast mode.

We have a little (1-2 acre) pond that I stocked back by @Crimsonorblue22 ā€˜s old stomping ground. The fish are ignorant of people. It’s fun, but not very challenging.

Fishing • Feb 17, 2025 04:22 PM

Just walking around the pond is fine by me. My youngest fished for about 10 minutes caught one and I think he’s done for life - been there done that. My oldest will fish all day. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Although last time we were out he came jogging up after 30 minutes. I asked him if he was done and he said yeah, I’ve caught 8 already. Lol - no challenge ruined the fun.

I'm now at a cross roads guys • Feb 17, 2025 04:13 PM

Just remember this is KU basketball. They won’t stay down for long. Next year is always a bright spot. But yeah…this year from early on it was evident the ceiling is closer to sweet 16 than final four.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:25 PM

Now wtf to do if it’s correct? Buy all the road tickets so they have energy there too? lol Better recruit a hype man for next year, a vocal leader.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:23 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk Fair enough. A spark would sure get this team to overachieve - they have beat good teams when they find it. But they lose to crappy teams when they don’t have that edge - Utah, Missouri, K-State. Come on.

Braun nailed it - play for the name on the front of the jersey.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:18 PM

sheesh one Russian bot with intent to sow dissent on here has turned this from a fun sports site to a sad therapy session within about 18 months. Incredible.

Fair Weather Fan • Feb 16, 2025 04:25 PM

What has changed?

The coach - nope. The players - yup. What will change next year? The coach - nope. The players - yup. Will the results be the same? I doubt it.

Recruiting - yes. The pipeline was disrupted by the punitive investigation and has since changed drastically. Will KU start getting guys that work together better? I believe so. But there are some major wrinkles that need worked out. Many caused by the NCAA’s witch hunt, so I believe things will be better going forward.

Player development- a perceived strength of Bill’s is partially degraded by the transfer portal being wide open. It might be best to align recruiting to stud HS guys that will play year one. And early transfers that have multiple years left to play, but a harder time transferring out having already transferred once. Hopefully Rylan…and then there’s Storr. It is difficult to get the core backbone guys that play 4 years and help establish the culture - Dajuan Harris, Russel Robinson, David McCormach. The 3-4 year studs that blossomed - Rush, Braun, Thomas Robinson, Ochai.

There will be a return to normalcy. Self will get his pipeline in place again, it takes time to get the backbone right though. The flash in the pan guys are easier to add in later - Remy Martin, Darrell Arthur. You need the program builders in place first.

Terrence Shannon arrested • Feb 16, 2025 03:57 PM

…and his Jersey is retired (upside down) after his rape charges are beat and he led the Illini on a magical elite eight run. The Illini’s first since Bill Self’s recruits left the pipeline - coached by Bruce (Liberace) Weber at the time.

Be careful what you wish for…

Theyre not diamonds but theyre in the rough • Feb 16, 2025 03:48 PM

With a bleak future and a moribund present. The past is wretched with so many blown opportunities to win the championship and only 2! to show for Adidas’ efforts. Only 10% of the championships the last 20 years, they left 18 on the table for the other 364 teams - disgusting.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 03:13 PM

I’d expect people to be disappointed, but the only ā€œsolutionā€ I hear around these parts is fire the coach. SMH unoriginal, boring, tired, sad. If this applies to you, pick your head up - KU isn’t likely to win the national championship this year or next or the next or the next. It’s just a numbers thing. If the National Championship is all you care about, you will be disappointed nearly every year of your fandom. At best you might enjoy one in twenty years or you could root for a team like Missouri and not even know what a final four is like.

If you can’t have fun watching the team grow and competing you will be disappointed nearly every year. For instance, some are really enjoying watching Flory develop. He could be a great player if he figures out how to play with others - help defense, why positioning on offense helps the flow, etc. I look forward to seeing how his KU career progresses.

To me it looks like the team lacks an emotional leader and that can’t be the coach. They need a Travis Kelce, DeVonte Graham, type hype man. There aren’t any true alphas (Frank Mason, Mario Chalmers, Tyshawn, Robinson, Ochai), demand the ball in the crunch time players on the team. I suspect this is why there is such a big let down on the road compared to home performances with the crowd providing the energy at Allen and a lack of an alpha to carry/spark them.

The pieces are there, the spark isn’t. That is on the players to find. You either want it or you don’t and some (most) don’t know the effort it takes - I sure didn’t put forth the effort in sports that I thought I did in hindsight. I quit when I got wore out or hurt instead of pushing thru like, not my, but my loved ones life depended upon it. I didn’t have the heart of a sports champion, I hope the team finds theirs.

I bet Zeke could make a bunny if he would look at the basket instead of throwing his head back nearly every shot trying to draw a foul.

I don't know what in Zeke's mind was when he decided to transfer to KU. He's used to Bama's run-gun now he's got to play BS way - IMHO that's one of the reasons these transfers didn't seem to fit in. They're not used to sloooow offense.

Rylan played for Bama. Not Zeke.

The end of NCAA? • Feb 12, 2025 06:45 PM

If I understand this correctly the least expensive way to stay in title IX compliance is to reduce female enrollment to match your intended scholarship allotment. ie if Alabama decided they needed more football scholarships they could reduce the female enrollment to say 25% and free up 25% of the scholarships. Just sayin’

If it’s me, I’m hiring a front office type group with a GM, recruiting guys, and analysts to do all the portal scouting and most of the recruiting. It’s clearly paid huge dividends on the football side and I’m not sure a small handful of assistant coaches can handle coaching, scouting, the portal, and NIL. Go get some young, hungry guys who want to prove themselves. I’d look at the NBA first.

That’s how I see it too, model it after the pros. That’s what college bball is now.

Super Bowl • Feb 10, 2025 11:44 PM

Veach needs to fix that Oline this offseason or it’ll be more of the same. Playing a guard at Tackle is a crappy spot to be in and was the direct cause of one of the interceptions. Just an ugly game by the left side of the line in particular.

Now about the bright future - that 50 yard TD bomb to Worthy has been all season in the works. I’m glad it finally started clicking late. Add in Rice (after his suspension) and the two young receivers look fantastic!

If Bill’s roster falls apart… • Feb 10, 2025 03:00 PM

The only reason this team is underwhelming is the talent was over-rated by the media, and because there are only 2 ā€œitā€ coaches right now. That’s creates false expectations of being the number 1 team in the land.

The fans (short for fanatics let’s remember) start to froth at the mouth thinking about winning a crapshoot of a tournament. It’s in the bag with that preseason number one ranking. How could it not be? Then the reality of the season plays out and the team has more of a sweet 16 ceiling. Fans get pissed that they rooted for one of the best 20 teams in the nation, but not the one that got hot during the tournament.

Ever see a snake eating its own tail?

Methinks some don’t remember what it was like under former coaches. The level of consistency Bill has had is unmatched.

This is a low-key hilarious take. Former coaches you say? Which one? Roy Williams? The HOF coach who left over 20 years ago? Ya, most people probably don't remember that. Or did you mean Larry Brown? The other HOF coach who won a national championship at KU...who left almost 40 years ago. Or did you mean Ted Ownes...whose last season at KU was in 1983...over 40 years ago. Ya, most people probably don't remember that...because it was a lifetime ago.

I don't disagree with the take...but this is a pretty hilarious thing to say about a program that's had, what, 8 coaches in its entire history.

Ok, so you don’t have much of a KU history. Enjoy it, it will change. We are spoiled and about to find out how much. It will thin out a bunch of the ā€œfansā€ that are currently around.

@dylans well, I think you’ve at times been partial to
comparing basketball to other jobs, right? So, if a remarkably consistent president of a company had 3 down years in a row, should he be given a 4th, when its clear he wont have what he needs to be successful for that 4th year?

When you’re at the top there is no where else to go man. That’s just silly when he still has a company in the top 10% of all companies for winning and top 5 for revenue generation. It is a business right? What defines a successful business? $$$

2024 NFL Season • Feb 09, 2025 02:56 PM

The MVP is narrative driven - and Josh is very deserving. He lost his top receiver, analysts were doubting he would be able to do much calling it a rebuilding year. And he put up MVP worthy numbers with a weaker supporting cast.

Reid can’t really defy expectations. It sucks, but he won’t win for that reason. He’s expected to lead the team to the SB, anything less would be a failure. - seems like the definition of coach of the year. But voters are silly that way.
